The only bummer was that they did not have any dark beers which is one of our favorites. We went with a lager and a marzen. As dark as we could get but still very good. The food side had quite the variety. We went with a lot of appetizers & a beet salad. We also had a cup of apple slaw (delicious) and a cup of Tuscan Kale & Asparagus (VERY delicious) and then a pleasurable unexpected bonus of potato pierogis. (SOO VERY delicious). Our waitress, Xiomara was extremely nice and always smiling! Although Xiomara was pretty busy and she forgot about the pierogis. She was very kind to not charge us for them. Greatly appreicated. We sat by the bar which was nice with a lot of natural daylight but the place is quite big with different rooms each with their own vibe.

Our server was extremely friendly! But the service was lacking. Our meal came out. We had to ask for napkins. Then we had to ask for the side of chipotle mayo that was supposed to be served with it . Then I realized we didn't have any forks or knives, but by this time I didn't want to ask anymore. So I just used the toothpick to spread the chipotle mayo. The cheesesteak sliders sounded so delicious. But there was barely any meat on them. We took off the top bun, but even then not enough meat. Listen, I am a true Evanstion and I really want them to succeed! But they're definitely going to need to up their game. On the positive side. There were many large green TVs with lots of football! It'd be a super great place to go watch some football. Definitely give it a try for Monday night Bears game.

I had a bad experience at one of the other restaurants their owner owns and he was kind enough to send a gift card in the mail. Tonight my daughter and used it for dinner, ordering a chicken Caesar wrap and a burger. The burger was quality beef, a huge patty on a toasted brioche bun and I got onion strings on it. Love those. They forgot the chicken in my daughter's Chicken Caesar wrap. Kind of ironic since the gift card used was to compensate for a previous mishap and then this happened. I didn't bother calling, I just know for next time to make sure. We both got fries and they were cold by the time we drove the 10 minutes home. Disappointing but we put them in the air fryer. They have pizzas, salads, a few pasta dishes, other sandwiches, etc., and now we are familiar and may come again.

The pretzel, while huge, was literally coated in salt to the degree it was inedible. The cheese sauce that came with it was grainy, separated, and terrible. The chicken quesadilla had completely different ingredients than the menu, and it seemed like they just threw it together. Never again. If I could give zero stars, I would.

The food is delicious (the event I was at had a taco bar, chips and guac, and a few desserts), the drink list is amazing (including a few great mocktails), and the space works really well for either private parties or just hanging out with friends. Five and Dime never disappoints. And for those who do have to plan events for stuff, F&D is great. I had happy hours here for new students in 2018, 2019, and 2022 (post-pandemic), and it was a smooth and enjoyable process each time.

The Oysters were amazing, the cocktail sauce was perfect with horse radish. I forgot how good oysters are. I ordered a bowl of the lobster bisque and the lobster ravioli. Wife had the walleye. The bisque was excellent. tomatoey and rich. The ravioli portion was large but the edges of the pasta were tough. The center was super, but the edges all tough to chew. The walleye portion was also large with mashed potatoes and lots of spinach. We had the key lime pie which was okay. Also had the Negroni which was amazing. We'll definite be back. It's located right down the street from Northwestern University's football stadium (whatever the heck they're naming it). This is a nice hidden gem in Evanston. Not located downtown, it may have a chance to stick around a while. As Jane V. noted in her review, you are greeted by a delicious smoky smell when you enter the restaurant. It was an inviting smell (at least for me), others in our group thought we were walking into a barbecue joint and were less than thrilled, but the menu put them at ease as it has a lot of options. There were five of us and one couple decided to share a couple appetizers as their entrees. They ordered the Cauliflower Buffalo Bites, and the Macho Nacho. They were huge portions easily enough for us all to share. However, my wife and I don't see eye-to-eye with our eating habits (she is mostly vegetarian and I'm a card-carrying carnivore), so she was not about to share the smoky wings and cheesy tots with me. I opted for the Chicken Vesuvio entree, and she and our other friend both ordered the Inside-Out Grilled Cheese. I would say most the sandwiches looked good (no portobello for me, thanks). I would say though, the desserts are pretty generic, so we opted out, but their is a door inside the restaurant to the donut shop next door (which was closed), but I wanted to try that place, so I'll have to make another trek out there for them and review them later. I'm amazed that the donut shop, DB3 Donuts, does not appear on their menu at all, despite having a connecting door from one establishment to the other, but alas, I've heard their apple crisp and brownie are good, but neither were too appealing that night. All meals were delicious and I definitely need to go back and try other dishes. And may DB3, if they are open. Give this place some love as it is a nice gem in Evanston.

So much so that I ordered the smoked Sampler plate, and was I glad I did. I started off with their Top O' The Morning special Saint Patrick's cocktail (Titos, Curacao, and orange juice shaken and poured over ice). I really loved this drink. My hubby had a Margarita that was just delightful. Our appetizers were: Angry Shrimp (really delicious) shrimp with a spicy tomato garlic sauce. Served over polenta cake. Ahi Tuna Wanton (mango jicama salsa, avocado, and teriyaki sauce) This should be their signature appetizer). The presentation is impeccable. It appealed to our eyes before the 1st bite. And,the first bite, as well as the rest, was wonderful. We would gladly return here just for this. Our entrees were: Grilled Salmon with corn risotto, grilled asparagus, smoked tomato aioli. The salmon was well cooked to medium, not too dry, and not too rare. The plate was well balanced and everything was very tasty. Smoked Sampler My favorite! Rib tips, brisket, pulled pork, Texas toast, cole slaw. For dessert: Chocolate Brownie Apple Crisp Both were so good that we did not want to share! The next time you are in the Evanston area, you really must stop in for their delicious food!

If you are like me, trying to make that light, you will never see this place, but it is there and it is super cute. There is a lot of dark wood that just gives the space a cozy feel. There are also two garage doors that I assume can be opened when the weather is good. For you folks with dogs, beer drinkers who drink beyond the basic beers, bubble drinkers (like me) and those that want to bring in their own food...this is your place. We went there to meet some friends and to watch some football. For such a small place, they do have plenty of TVs with multiple games going. It was great to be able to have pizza delivered, with the bartender providing paper plates, and napkins for us to use. The bartender was also very cool about bringing our drinks over or picking up empties as we were sitting a a table away from the bar. I didn't get his name, but he was cool. There is street parking but not on Peterson itself. I would say, depending on the day, it might be hard to find a spot as you have to park on Ridge or some of the side streets. There is a new Metra station down the street that is about 2 blocks from the bar. Not sure if there is public parking available, but worth checking out. I could see myself coming here just because I can bring my own food and still get bubbles. While they do not carry bubbles by the bottle, the stuff they had in the can was good. I would love to go there when the weather is nicer and they have the garage doors open. And it is a happy compromise to hanging out with friends who have dogs that they just can't live without who also like to drink.
