The good. Food quality is terrific. Prices fair. Server attitude also good. The bad. We came at 750 pm on a Tuesday. Ordered our food at 805. By 830, no food had made it. Only then did server come by to say they have a big group in back and kitchen can't do our food until done making theirs. No mention of this when we ordered. Had we known, we would have left and eaten elsewhere. Another 20 minutes go by before food finally shows up. At 848. And only happened because we finally spoke with manager. No apology from management and no comp anything to make up. The server genuinely felt bad but out of his control. So if you are ok that the kitchen can only cook one plate at a time and that management reaction is uncaring, then enjoy. Again the food is good and prices fair. I used to go to Ridgeville Tavern frequently, and for a long time it was one of my favorite spots in town. The food was consistently good and something I could always count on, paired with a solid beer selection and generally reliable service. Unfortunately, that experience has changed. In recent visits, the tavern has become very outward and explicit in expressing its political views. What was once a comfortable place to enjoy a meal now feels uncomfortable and overall non-inclusive. Dining out should be about good food and a welcoming atmosphere, not overt political messaging. Because of this shift, I'll be taking my business elsewhere. read more

Evanston benefits from independently owned, community-engaged small businesses, and this one is definitely one of them. The owner, Ike, cares about the community and about his clientele. We were staying across the street at the Holiday Inn and decided to try this tavern and are very glad we did. We were greeted quickly with a fiendly attitude by our server Elizabeth. A double scotch was a generous pour and served in a perfectly clean glass with fresh ice. We tried the pretzel which was prepared from scratch and the server explained in front that it takes a little time because of that. We followed that with a fish and chip dinner (subbed mac n' cheese that was creamy and delicious with a bit of a kick). The two-pice portion of cod was lightly breaded, cooked perfectly and a good sized portion. It was served with creamy cole slaw which was so good, I wish there was abit more. A cheese quesadilla was grilled just right. The atmosphere is of a quaint neighborhood tavern that is clean, cozy and well maintained. Lots of wood and earth toned colors give a warm feeling. That color pattern (Autumn) gives you a great feeling of escape from the glass, steel and plastic of the world outside. Great place. If I lived in Evanston and wasn't visiting, I'd be a regular. read more

We primary came for a drink with friends and, thus, did not dive into the food. (Though the carrot cake sure looks enticing!) Secured a cozy booth by the window. They offered a solid craft beer menu, along with fun cocktails. Wine list was more limited. The atmosphere was enjoyable. Not too loud (though it wasn't a big game night). It looked like it would be a fun spot to watch a football game. Spinach-artichoke dip with warm, fresh pita chips proved a tasty little something for us to snack on while we sipped our drinks. Tonight we made a last minute decision to try the food here when the place we wanted to order from closed early. And, I will report it was one of the worst meals I have ever had. The burgers and fried chicken sandwich were really over cooked. The fried chicken tasted like fish and the toppings on all the sandwiches were minimal and sad. This whole meal felt very depressing. Oh and everything came in styrofoam containers. Which seems shocking in the year of 2022. The only reason I'm giving the spot 2 stars is for the bar and the fact that they stay open until a decent hour in Evanston, where everyone else closes down at 10pm. Cute corner bar that used to be Bar Louie. Nice bar area with ample seating that extends around the corner, and clean restrooms. Recently attended a class reunion gathering where only the back seating was designated but when they saw the crowd of us, they allowed us to invade the whole place. (We are Evanstonians after all). Didn't try their food this time but our drinks were good and reasonable. read more

At first when you come here , you will be like " this does not remind me of bar louie" yes it was here get over it lol:) We can debate if downtown evanston is dead or not in terms of finding anyone with a pulse who is not afraid to venture outside but it was quite lively in here. To start off, We came when there was not many families/groups, maybe 4-5. We sat down and ordered relatively quickly. A couple more families come and you'd expect them to be able to manage it right? No. The server saw us waiting for about 30ish minutes when we decided we were going to leave. The server came over when we started leaving, and letting us know that our order would come out very quickly, and that the kitchen were focused on the bigger tables that walked in after us. Which is just odd to say to customer but A for honesty I guess. When the food arrived, it was mystery meat, like the rubbery steak meat they use at taco bell... I was also charged 19.50 and 18.50 for a Steak sandwich and hamburger. They were listed as $16.50 and $15.50. on the menu. And left no tip, which is odd because the charge somehow grew by $3 dollars overnight. This restaurant has terrible service, will not be kind to you unless your an elder (probably trying to make grandmas feel happy for better tips), and will try to take as many dollars as they can. We came for dinner on a Thursday night and sat down right away. They are checking vaccination cards at the door and you can't get in without one. Our waitress was super friendly and attentive. We ordered the fried chicken sandwich and Mac and cheese. The sandwiches were very good, but the Mac and cheese did not impress us. The portion sizes are a little small compared to other restaurants. We got AMAZING service, and our server even apologized for the circumstances that led us to Ridgeville. Burgers were ordered, and was the blackened salmon, and some cocktails. it was all delicious and amazing. If I lived closer, I would definitely be a regular! We stopped in before a basketball game for drinks and a quick meal. We ordered a round of apps, fried pickles and fried cheese curds both of which were undercooked so the batter was unseasoned, soggy, and borderline raw. The manager came over to tell us that they had a party coming in and the kitchen was focused on their food so they couldn't guarantee our food would come out in enough time for us to make it to the game (we had an hour until we needed to leave at this point). We had a disappointing first impression of Ridgeville Tavern. On a Saturday evening, we ordered takeout and the bill for a couple of appetizers and two entrees totaled almost $60. The portion sizes were extremely disappointing. A $14 Mac & Cheese entree was more like a large side (see pictures). It was also pretty flavorless to have had four kinds of cheese. Preparation was pretty slow--40 minutes to prepare a takeout order is slow for a neighborhood joint. I don't think we will be back. read more

Not a bad place In Evanston. The best part is it's open past 8:30 (I know, WILD for Evanston!!). The average age here at ridgeville is pretty much always around 60 but for a beer it's not a bad place to go. It's way less chaotic than bobs, which is the opposite issue of having too many 18 year olds. Ridgville is sophisticated, but fun and a great place to take your parents when they come to town. The food is okay-- get the burger, a southwest salad, or the fish and chips. The alcohol is also good here and strong. read more

This place truly is a neighborhood spot, complete with being warmly greeted upon entering. The vibe is casual and comfortable. I'd describe it as an upscale bar. The service is friendly and attentive. For starters I had the risotto fritters with a sriracha aioli. The fritters were delicious. Crisp outside warm, soft inside. The aioli was creamy with just the right amount of heat. The contrast in flavor and temperature added to the depth of the dish really making it shine. For my meal I had the fish and chips. The fish were huge pieces with a really nice flavor and texture. The outside was flaky and not greasy the inside soft and mild. The fries were a little overly salty but otherwise perfectly cooked. For dessert I had the house Sunday. Vanilla ice cream, chocolate sauce, whipped cream, nuts and a cherry. It was pretty basic but still good. Creamy, sweet, and a tad crunchy. The nuts gave a hint of salt which was nice contrast against the sweetness. I should also mention that they not only know how to make a proper sidecar but it's listed on their menu which is something you don't see every day.
