I've been here several times since my first review and it just hasn't been the same. I believe they make their own syrups in house but they're not potent in flavor. In the fall I had the pumpkin latte and I had to ask for more pumpkin because I couldnt taste it. Today I tried their new cookie butter latte and it doesn't taste like anything. How can the pumpkin latte and cookie butter latte taste the same? They also charge $1 more to make the drinks with oat milk. Why are they punishing customers for dietary restrictions? We don't find our way to Evanston often. A welcomed spot when we do is Evanston Pour. Oddly, each time we've visited, it's rained. (What gives Evanston?!?) The pastries and coffees are five star. Sitting and watching the world go by works well here. In the 'not yet' category are their cocktails. Very tempting from all appearances! I don't get it, especially since they do have oat milk at the customization bar. Their online menu was also not updated for months which was disappointing as I went for that drink. The parking there isn't very convenient as there are only several spots onsite, especially during rushing hours. I've been coming here since the day you opened. I have suggested it when people come to town, spent hours and hundreds and hundeds of dollars there. I leave and come back in waves because, honestly, the staff often comes off as pretentious and aloof. Even after years of seeing me, they act like it's my first time walking in. The prices have also gotten wild. Yesterday, an almond croissant was $9, and it was dry and bland. But what finally pushed me to write this is what happened yesterday. I came in to do some work and saw trivia had already started, which wasn't ideal, but I figured I'd deal with it. I made space for someone at the narrow bar. There were little candles on the counter, and when I adjusted my winter bomber hat, one of the flaps brushed the flame. It caught just enough to melt the material. I didn't notice but the barista did. They were right in front of me making a drink. Instead of warning me or even acknowledging it, she just flicked or tossed my hat back at me without eye contact; enough that the person next to me gave me a "what was that?" look. No "hey, your hat's near the candle," no "sorry about that," nothing. My hat now has a burned hole in it, ruined and in their garbage now. That moment, plus the attitude, the silence, and the weirdly aggressive gesture, made it clear that I'm done here. I won't spend another dollar at a place that treats customers like they're an inconvenience or a hastle. And the whole "Gen Z doesn't emote" stereotype isn't an excuse for bad customer service. Terrible experience. I sat down with my laptop since the bar was full, and an employee loudly called me out across the room telling me I couldn't sit there. Embarrassing and unnecessary. I moved right away -- but later watched another customer sit in the exact same spot with a laptop for a long time and that same employee said nothing. It's hard not to notice the double standard. I left feeling singled out and disrespected. As someone who's come here before and always tipped, this was disappointing and unfair. There are plenty of better coffee shops around -- I won't be coming back. read more

Super friendly baristas- good music playing, ordered my cortado and was shocked when the cash register flashed $6.49!! I told the barista must be some mistake, I ordered just a cortado. No, sorry she said, they just raised the prices. WHAT!?!?! Well, that is the most expensive cortado I have ever had. Walked in feeling optimistic. Lots of people there, computing, chatting, nice art work on display. We went to order and the problems began: 1. No prices posted for the food items. We asked and were shocked, I mean informed. A tiny piece of foccacia was $7.00 -- it was in a case behind glass; I asked can you warm it up, answer: no. My friend wanted what looked like a tiny round cheese & egg pie: it was $8.00 and she was told it was the only thing they could heat up. That made no sense but that's what the whole vibe was like. We got our coffees and sat down. Her coffee was luke warm, she asked if they could warm it up and you guessed it: "No" apparently they only have an oven and no microwave. Had a wonderful Cortado here. It's a lovely little spot in Evanston to catch a cup of coffee. The servers were friendly and they used real cups and saucers which is a personal favorite of mine. Tried this place for the first time last Sunday evening. Met a friend for drinks. The ambiance is really nice!! A cafe feel with a loungy vibe! They even dim the lights as the sun goes down! The drinks were enjoyable, you order at the counter just as you would at a coffee shop. The food items are also reflective of a cafe vibe, just light snacks; pastries, tarts, etc so I wouldn't recommend going if you're hungry for a full meal with your drink. Nice place. Mediocre service. They have glasses for water right on the counter, and cocktails come in glass too. But when I asked for a simple iced coffee in a glass, the response was, "Oh, we don't do that. 12 oz or 16 oz (pointing to plastic cup)?" I don't like drinking coffee from plastic or paper cups. It feels like such a basic request to accommodate without justifying it with store policy. Evanston is a cute and relatively new joint in Evanston. Since I graduated undergrad in 2013, so many lovely shops and sit-down restaurants have disappeared. Thus, I am glad that Evanston Pour is in town! Try the beverages as well as the pastries. The cardamom bun isn't a true cardamom bun (sorry, Denmark spoiled me!), but it's a decent substitute if you can't get to Lost Larson or Scandinavia. I would probably recommend the quiches and croissants over other baked goods. Love that Evanston Pour offers more spacious seating in addition to more seats than your typical hip coffee shop.
