I got a cortado there when reading my book. It tasted good, but the espresso was not very strong and the milk was not so thick. The parking there isn't very convenient as there are only several spots onsite, especially during rushing hours. However, I loved the vibe there, and the baristas were very friendly and patient to my questions regarding coffee. Thus, 5 out of 5!

Evanston Pour is gorgeous inside! It feels like a fancy restaurant in the city! They have both caffeine drinks during the day and cocktails during the evening hours. I was there during the day for a caffeine boost- the latte art is beautiful! Laptops and "parking" are not allowed in the window seats;) I'll be back for cocktails!

I loved the bar + coffee shop design, and it was a great study spot. The $8 pistacho matcha latte small was a pricey for me but the barista was so friendly!

Grabbed coffee on a Saturday. The place is super nice and modern inside, with regular seating and a bar. They have coffee to start the day and drinks to help get through it. Definitely will be back!

We split a chocolate croissant and each of us had a large latte.

The vibe is super cool, the pastry was delicious and the coffee super yummy. A lot of people appeared to be locals and knew one another, which is always a good sign. The interior was really neat too. If I am in Evanston again, I would definitely come here again.

Old fashion hit the spot.

I liked Pour. I t was cool. Prices was a little up there but I was ok with it. Mellow in the inside and outside.

What a great meal! This was the first time that our family…read moreenjoyed Georgian food, and we really loved it. We found this restaurant through the yelp reviews, and, as usual, the yelp wisdom of crowds was correct. The meal was absolutely delicious. Sorry, I can't remember the Georgian names of the dishes but the eggplant rolls filled with walnut paste, the bread with melted cheese and egg yolk and the lamb and potato stew were all great choices. The food tasted home-made, as if a grandmother had cooked for us with love in every bite. Lots of garlic - we love that. Washed down with a glass or dry red Georgian wine, a perfect pairing. We were fully satisfied with our main dishes so were not able to try dessert. Next time. The atmosphere was nice - tablecloths on the table, friendly service, not noisy. We will definitely come back next time we are in the Evanston area.

We didn't love the pkhlovana version as much, but it was still very good (just a lot of onion flavor when we ordered). While super basic, their fried potatoes are insanely good. I'd also recommend any stew on the menu. They have a great selection of Georgian wines as well, which I highly recommend. For those who don't drink alcohol, they offer a wide variety of compotes as well. The decor/ambiance is very Eastern European. There is a coat check at the entrance which is very handy. Service is very friendly, but they have seemed understaffed the times we've gone. It did take some time to get the waitress' attention, but it also seemed that she was the only one taking orders from several tables. Definitely a slower service, but it's good for large groups to talk over a great meal.

Looking for the charm of a small, local restaurant with some really great food? Then Jilly's fits…read morethe bill. We've said for years we need to try Jilly's Cafe. So glad we finally did. We'll absolutely be back. Reservations are highly recommended - the restaurant is very small and cozy. I didn't love the hold on a credit card for the reservation and will watch to see when it falls off as someone else on here commented on an issue they had. It would be nice if it could be applied to the bill. Now - onto the dining experience: after being seated, we were promptly brought bread along with wonderful chilled house butter and a duck pate. Really great. We got two appetizers, two meals, and a dessert: Escargot - perfectly seasoned, wonderful sauce that struck a perfect balance of flavors. The puff pastries on top were done to perfection. This was a really great rendition of a classic. Maybe one of the best we've had. Spring Rolls - This was a miss for me and the reason I didn't do a 5 star for this visit. I debated between this and crispy goat cheese and wish I would've done the goat cheese. This had mushrooms, sweet cherries (they looked to be maraschino cherries based on the bright red, which was off), and spinach. It says it has Brie, but I didn't get much of that. The texture of the wrapper was chewy (even difficult to cut) and the flavors didn't come together in a good way for me. It just wasn't pleasant and actually off putting. However, the greens and vinaigrette it sat on were fantastic. If that's an indication of what a salad would be - I'd order one in a heartbeat. Mushroom Risotto- Absolutely delicious. Perfectly done risotto. Wonderful flavors that came together like a symphony. In addition to the incredible mushrooms, there were some diced pieces of asparagus and a few tomatoes. They each were such great quality and favorable. So fresh. The mushroom flavor was the star - but the other components were a great supporting cast and it was so well seasoned. Just the right amount of garlic and other flavors. Nothing overpowered the other. They played off one another. It was a warm hug in a bowl. I'd eat this every day if I could. BBQ Glazed Beef Short Ribs - This was also a hit. Perfectly done, deboned short ribs that were wonderfully seasoned and deliciously glazed. They sat on top of a wonderful helping of mashed potatoes in a red wine Demi glaze. There were delicious carrots and asparagus that played well with the entirety of the dish. The flavors were incredible. While not my order, I did sneak a taste and saw why the person I was with was enjoying it so much. Great portion and really wonderful comfort dish. Chocolate Mousse Cake - Delicious layers of chocolate cake and chocolate mousse. What could be better? Well, having it sit on a chocolate sauce, with a mango puree and a few fresh raspberries and blackberries, of course. It was the perfect way to avoid chocolate overload. It all came together so well. Other callouts: Parking wasn't obvious if you've never been there, but you're able to park in the lot at the auto shop next door. Confirmed this ahead of time. Staff were helpful and friendly. They checked-in just enough. Able to give recommendations too. Portions were generous (but not overly/obnoxiously so). I'd say this was perfect. Already looking forward to returning.

I was trying to find a place at least midway between us and discovered Carlos and Carlos on Yelp. Carlos and Carlos is old school from the perspective you actually have to call the restaurant to make a reservation. The space itself is located in what I think is a condo building. The space itself is compact, with tables relatively close together. We ended up sitting at table next to the kitchen door, which for me turned out not to be too bad as we were not sitting on top of other folks. The restaurant and bar were packed as it was a Saturday. Based on the size of the space and number of tables, I would strongly suggest making a reservation if you go there. We started out with fresh bread and one of their specials for the night: flash fried calamari served w/fresh tomatoes, pepperoncini peppers, shaved garlic, black olives, capers & garlic butter. This was a first for me as I have never had calamari served this way and it was great. Definitely a dish I would drive back to get. The bread was wonderful and hot. I could see through the kitchen as fresh bread was being pulled out of either a warmer or oven, not sure. It was served with some sort of olive oil and pesto, I think. It made for a lovely spread on the bread. For dinner I ordered a dish called "Meatballs" and it was just that, a whole lotta meatballs with some spaghetti thrown in as a side...HAHAHA! Not complaining, just staying a fact. The meatballs and pasta were good, but I would say there was a fair amount of garlic in the dish. I had my dish as a leftover and as I was warming it up, The Doctor commented that he could smell the garlic. The Doctor had the Pollo Vesuvio, which also came with pasta. I had a small piece and it was pretty nice. Again there was more meat than pasta, but again we were not complaining. The chicken was nice and tender and had a lovely flavor to it. My GF got the Risotto Al Fungi (Arborio served with wild mushrooms & goat cheese). Prior to sampling her dish, I would have absolutely stated that this was a dish I would not order in a restaurant as I wouldn't have any interest in it. I tried a spoonful of my GF's and was amazed at how good it was! The broth that the risotto was cooked in was chicken and I think beef. That with the goat cheese made this a very nice dish and the second reason I would drive here to do a repeat visit for dinner. Portion sizes were nice as The Doctor and I had plenty to eat and enough for light snack the next day. My GF had no leftovers, she became a member of the clean plate club. For dessert we shared a slice of the chocolate mousse cake, which was really nice. It had a lovely dark flavor to it and was creamy in texture. Service was nice and everyone was friendly. There is plenty of street parking within walking distance as well. While this is a bit of a drive for us to get to since it is outside of the city, I could see coming back here. I think I want to try a serving of that risotto on my own instead of a taste.
