We're big Tala fans! Our usual cafe if the Libertyville headquarters - but while in the area, we had to try the Winnetka location. What a unique building. Parking was difficult to figure out as a newbie. We passed the lot and had to make a massive circle through the neighborhood to get back on track. Learn from us - don't miss the parking on Green Bay Rd. There is lots of outdoor seating, which I'm sure is nice in the warmer months. The interior of the cafe is bright and open, with lots of seating. We experienced the same warm welcome and friendly atmosphere at this cafe. I ordered a mint tea and my son was thrilled to grab some Holcomb Hollow treats. A must visit - Tala is a local gem and their hospitality, heart, warmth, and service extends across the many locations.

I must say, as a barista myself I have heard many things prior about this place. Great people running it, great roasting and great put together drinks. I can say this lived up to the hype. The coffee beans were lightly roasted with notes of caramel and smooth velvety milk. The barista knew exactly what he was talking about and my experience with the views and naturally light in the cafe made for an even better experience. Lovely place and will definitely be back.

This was actually so disappointing. Ordered a 12oz specialty latte and a breakfast sandwich. It cost $19.50. Outrageous prices, but I liked their coffee before so it was fine. The coquito latte I ordered tasted like sweet milk, the barista said there are 2 shots in it but I find that very hard to believe. I didn't taste any coffee, the latte was tinted beige so there was probably some in it The breakfast sandwhich on the other hand... was disgusting. I should've expected it would've been bad, but it was recommended to me. It had a couple pieces of wet soggy bacon, and a perfect circle of what I think is egg. I'm t was also drenched in some kind of wet juice stuff, not sure if it's cheese, or bacon grease, I don't know. But I do know that it shouldn't cost $12. The picture speaks for itself. I'm pretty disappointed by the steep prices and low quality of this place.

My second time visiting and this time I tried the ube latte with a chorizo breakfast burrito. The ube latte was okay. It could've been a tad sweeter. The chorizo burrito was okay as well. Although a handheld food, I'm surprised it's not served with a fork because most of the contents fell out anyway. I will add my husband ordered the horchata latte and he enjoyed it.

I actually really like this coffee shop! There's a good amount of parking, a nice outdoor area, and the interior is great! Very clean. Staff is very nice and informative. They had great beans and amazing drinks! I got the pour over and my buddy got the iced backbone and we both loved them! The backbone also came in a metal straw which we loved. Definitely recommend!

Super cute cafe right by the metra tracks. Love the ambiance and the location. Standard menu with everything you'd expect, including matcha and chai. Love their lattes!

Delicious coffee with fun flavors. Homemade syrups which is what I always look for in a good local coffee shop. Plenty of space inside and outside to work or hangout Nice employees who are very helpful and informative on different drinks

A Brew-tiful Experience at Tala Coffee Roasters! I recently visited Tala Coffee's newest location in Winnetka for the first time after opening up nearly two years after the initial announcement of the new café. Working nearby I imagine this café may become my go-to spot for a caffeine fix. The location itself is a gem - nestled in what used to be a car service station steps away from a Metra rail line, the transformation is impressive and adds a unique charm to the entire experience. Although we are in the midst of winter I can see this spot becoming a great scene in the warmer months with their plentiful outdoor seating offerings. Now, let's talk about the star of the show - the coffee. The brews here are nothing short of fantastic! Whether you're a fan of robust espressos or prefer a smooth latte, Tala has you covered. The baristas are not only skilled but also passionate about their craft, and it truly reflects in every sip. The variety of beans they offer for drinks and take-home is commendable, and I appreciate the effort they put into sourcing high-quality coffee. The ambiance is cozy and inviting, with ample seating both indoors and outdoors. The outdoor seating area, set against the backdrop of the old service station, adds a touch of nostalgia. It will be a great place to unwind, catch up with friends, or simply enjoy some quiet me-time with. Now, onto a couple of areas that could use a bit of improvement. The wifi signal here tends to be a bit weak to non-existent, which can be a slight inconvenience for those looking to get some work done or browse the web. It would be great if they could boost the signal to provide a more reliable connection for customers. A few more food options on the menu, especially some delicious donuts or muffins to pair with the fantastic coffee, would take the experience to the next level. Despite these minor areas for improvement, Tala Coffee Roasters has won me over with its great coffee, unique location, and friendly atmosphere. I'll definitely be returning, and I hope to see the wifi and menu offerings get even better in the future. Cheers to the team for creating such a delightful coffee haven on the North Shore!

The drinks are just okay, and the ambiance is lacking. It's a fine place, but I think there are much better places around the area

Inside they also have a record player for some ambiance and good music. Their chai is delicious! It was sweeter than I expected but I like it sweet too. On the spicy to sweet scale of chai, this is definitely on the sweet side, so if that's not your bag you'll want to select something else. The menu overall is small, but the drinks are pleasant. They had several scones and although I skipped those, another woman in the shop was buying a scone wheel to bake at home, so I don't deny they piqued my interest. There is a good deal of parking along the street here, but I don't think they have a parking lot. As of March 2023 they are open Friday through Sunday only (see my photo).

The cafe is immaculate and service was very friendly. The person who took our order was patient as he explained the different pastries in the case. I wish they had signs explaining what each pastry was so I could have decided while waiting in line. We ended up sharing an iced pistachio latte (delicious and 10/10!), the pistachio cheesecake (10/10!), and the strawberry mousse cake (7/10 - a subtle sweetness, great texture, but needed more cake or crust inside as it was mostly whipped cream and the shell). The mousse cake was $12.00, which felt steep considering it was mostly whipped cream, even though it was obviously beautiful. We would definitely come back for the coffee and to try more menu items! Check this place out!

I wanted to like it. I did. But after a few visits, it's just not for me…read more The first trip, I tried the Matari Tea: Green tea, Himalayan pink salt, milk, and spices, topped with roasted pistachios. Sounds good, right? Alas, it could not have been blander. I couldn't taste any "spices" or even the hint of salt. The profile was that of very watered-down tea mixed with milk, and a ton of pistachios floating on top. Like, barely crushed pistachios. Huge pieces, covering the top of the drink, bobbed around like tiny icebergs, and even they somehow had a toned-down flavor. The drink was definitely a swing and a miss. Fast forward two weeks, and I tried Matari again. This time with a simple cortado. I sat at the table right by the door, and the espresso was pretty good. Solid body, not too bitter. It was on the pricy side ($7+), but I was ok with that. But then, I'm hanging out, sipping my coffee, and I catch a burst of perfume-like scent. I'm shocked, but whatever, I figured someone in heavy perfume walked by, no big deal. A few minutes later, wham, I'm hit in the nose with another burst of perfume. Then, I see it. A slight haze around me. So, not a heavily perfumed woman after all, but an automated air-freshener. After further inspection, I see the unit plugged in on the ground right behind my chair, which sprays up and out on a timer. That's right, an air freshener right next to a table where people consume food and beverages, shooting a mist into the air that slowly rains down onto my head and table, and into my coffee. I ended up tossing the last few sips of my cortado, as I could taste the scented whatever-it-was in my cup. I'd have gone to the counter and asked for a new one, but I was so over my visit by then, I just opted to get out. The staff aren't very friendly. Not rude, but they don't give off a welcoming aura, and I didn't feel like trying to explain the issue. Lastly, can we talk about their little "your order is up" beepers? We've all seen them. The little electronic things that blink and make a noise when your order is ready, so you can go snag it from the counter. When I think of a coffee shop, I think quiet and peaceful, or perhaps a bit louder, with bustling people and well-paired music. At Matari, it's an insane BEEP BEEP BEEP that goes off every few minutes when an order is up. I get it, you don't want to bring the food out to your customers. But does it really need to feel like an airport Chili's? It's a bummer, because Matari is beautiful inside. It's clean, it's chic, and its location is at a notable crossroads in Skokie with plenty of parking, leaving it extremely convenient. They've even got an easy-to-use website, which so many coffee shops simply do not have. There aren't a lot of coffee shops in this particular part of town, which is why I so, so very much wanted to love Matari. But subpar drinks? Air freshener spray intrusions? Frequent and obnoxious beeping? I tried. I'm sorry. I just can't.

Apparently the first (and only other) time I came here was Good Friday last year to meet a different friend for coffee. I didn't realize it had been almost a full year since I had been here. I've been wanting to try their food because it always looks so good on Instagram, and I wasn't disappointed. My friend ordered the mediterranean salad and a side of berries and tea, and I ordered the vegan soup of the day (tomato basil) and a side of fries. The fries were probably unnecessary because I didn't read that the soup came with bread, but I ate all of them anyway because they're delicious. Service was great, and we sat there for almost 2 hours and they didn't kick us out (unlike last year, it wasn't that crowded this time. We came at 2pm, so it was not as busy of a time, I guess). We were in the restaurant part, and the vibes are great. As a note: for counter service make sure you tip, as they still have servers bringing out the food for you (it's not like Panera). I feel super bad because I didn't realize that it wasn't included in the price. (We had looked at a few different places online and both Bar Siena and Hampton Social include an 18% gratuity automatically, and I think my brain was thinking that Cupitol also does that. But they do not. So many places do that now, some of which still ask you for an extra tip, so it's hard to keep track). Next time I go I'll tip double. I will definitely be back because everything was delicious and omg their pastries look so good.
