From supporting them at a farmers market previous, we were thrilled to see they have a storefront. When we walked in we were greeted with the friendliest smiles from all of the nuns. They had so many options it took us some time to browse through and not walk out with every single pastry. We ended up with an apple turnover, and a chocolate almond croissant both warmed up. They were delicious! Soft, flaky and they did not skimp on filling. The sizes were generous each item was bigger than the palm of my hand. I also got a mango smoothie because I had my caffeine already for the morning but my husband had coffee and said it was great. We loved watching so many folks try everything from sweets and savory while we waited for our items. We definitely have to come back soon! read more

Saturday early in the afternoon, stopped for a cup of coffee. Three employees. Line got longer after we placed our order. But our order came out pretty quickly. I got blended hazelnut with cold brew large for $5.70. I did not add any flavors or whipping cream. However, it was still sweet with hazelnut flavor. I loved it! I wonder how sweeter it gets with flavor added with whipping cream. Very local coffee shop with many other pastries and chocolate for sale. Good spot for coffee after a meal in the area! read more

St. Roger Abbey is nestled in Wilmette, having another location out in Birmingham, MI. This cute bakery is run by friendly nuns who are trained in the French art of pastry and baking - super impressive! They offer organic French macarons, bread, cookies, jams, various pastries, and even ready-cooked meals that you can order in advance or pick-up in the store. I loved checking out their shelves of jams, pickled veggies, and other nicely packaged boxes that could be great for gifts! We came here for a caffeine fix, and we ordered: +a White Chocolate Mocha - not brewed well; very weak and watered down; no flavor of the white chocolate +a Cafe Latte with almond milk - not brewed well; very weak and watered down +the Leek Delight - seemed a day or so old; it was dry and extremely bland +the Les bugnes d'Albi - this didn't taste like anything - just a fried, unflavored dough, topped with powdered sugar The organic lemon cookies that I purchased to go were actually delicious - I think it's best to just stick with their packaged cookies here. The nuns were nice. They have limited seating inside, and the place seems pretty popular for pastry orders. Plenty of free parking in the front and in the residential area around the block. +organic lemon cookies +friendly nuns +ample parking read more

Such a treat to enjoy a little bit of France here in Illinois. Great food. Friendly service. (Plus a chance to practice my French!) read more

The prices were steep, but the service, ambiance, and dessert were excellent. If you've had a long day and need a quiet spot for quality delicacies, this cozy corner café is the place--so long as you don't mind paying a bit more for top-notch baked goods. My only reason for deducting a star is the high price, but it's justified--the coffee and baked goods are truly next-level, crafted in authentic French style. read more

Popped into this location to purchase an apple tart for a friend. This bakery is run by nuns. The food is homemade and the bakery items looked delicious. They sell a variety of coffee, cookies, coffee, etc. The sisters were hard at work and took their time preparing each order. A lovely place to purchase a bakery item knowing it is for a great cause. read more

Absolutely the best authentic French pastries, cakes and pies in the Midwest! I highly recommend!

I ordered the potato leek soup and a ham and cheese quiche. My friend ordered the broccoli delights Ham and cheese quiche was my least favorite. Tasted like something I could get at Starbucks. The rest was delicious. read more

I had tried (and loved) St Roger items at the Chicago Kristkindlmarkt, but this was my first visit to their Wilmette outpost. It's a small, sunny bakery packed with all kinds of delicious, organic French specialties. Breads, viennoiseries, tarts, gorgeous pastries and so much more are on offer at reasonable prices. The sisters support their order by selling their products all of which are made at their sustainable farm in Gays Mills. This store has seasonal produce, jams, eggs and even some heritage ducks ready to roast. Plan to grab a light meal - sandwiches, homemade soup and salads are available. I had a Petit Lorraine which gave me a tasty ham/cheese quiche, a Carmel-y crisp Palmier and a drink. All delicious, all high quality. The Sisters have a beautiful wine list to accompany your meal. If you want something special, you can order ahead and they'll have it waiting for you. I went with my mom and sister and we bought a shameful amount of treats to take home. My personal recommends: any/all cookies, gorgeous fruit tarts and perfect quiches. The sisters working are all from France and are as sweet as the items they sell. Definitely worth a trip. read more

I stopped by here after church on a Sunday morning for some coffee and pastries. I asked if I could purchase the beignets individually and was told they were only sold by the dozen, but not to worry, they would not last, lol. She wasn't wrong! The beignets are soft and pillowy and covered in sugar. So good! I ordered a hot coffee with a broccoli quiche, and we enjoyed our snack outside on the cozy tables. read more

Adorable coffee shop. The nuns are so nice and the atmosphere is just so happy. I love the fact that most items are organic, that's extremely rare for any establishment. My cafe au lait with oat milk was delicious, and so was the berry tart. The fruit on top was super fresh tasting, and the custard and crust were perfect. I wish this was closer to me because I would go all the time!! read more

Love going to this place especially on a Sunday. I love their chocolate almond croissants warmed the best

I was looking for a place that made quiche for a brunch I was attending and I found this adorable and special bakery. I pre-ordered a cheese and a broccoli and cheese quiche and drove in from the city. It was a small group and I wasn't even sure I needed two - but I am glad I got two. People LOVED them. Simply delish. Their french pastries in the case looked fantastic. I will definitely be back. read more

On a Sunday morning while craving a chocolate croissant, I found St. Rogers Abbey on Yelp and came to the conclusion that if I bought baked goods from nuns it would make up for the fact that I wasn't going to church. Excited to be rid of the weekly guilt that is the decision to not go to church and eager to try the croissant, I hopped in the car. In downtown Wilmette, St. Roger's was easy to spot as it was the only place open and a nun was sweeping the sidewalk. Inside, the place has an antique feel and the nuns were welcoming. It's not a place I would linger for coffee but that's okay because all I wanted was to order my croissant and go. At the register, the nun asked if I wanted anything else, and a wave of catholic guilt overcame me and pressured me to buy a loaf of bread too. Had I not bought it, I would have given the place 5 stars because the croissant was one of the best I have ever had. However, I also had the bread and it did not taste right. Go for the pastries, but sadly I cannot recommend this as a one-stop shop for all your baked good needs. read more

Makes me want to move to the North Shore. Everything was fresh and the service heavenly. The place is clean and you can sit inside or outside. The pumpkin tart and almond croissant are highly recommended. We also drank coffe which was delicious. One of the nuns told us it was from Guatamala. All the products are organic from there location in Marango, IL. I also bought a dozen eggs which they said are from their Wisconsin farm. It's worth a drive from the city! Go there, you will enjoy every calorie in good health and good spirits! read more

What a cute little French bakery in downtown Wilmette run by the nuns. There is a sitting area with WiFi and everything. I came upon this bakery by accident but it was such a great accident. The sisters who run this French patisserie are so polite and you can tell, really love what they do. Great options for all tastes. The tiramisu was one of the best I've ever had and the chocolate tart was notably made with high quality chocolate. The best thing I had here was the coffee eclair- highly recommend trying this. It was all so great that we went back a day later to get croissants for breakfast. Heaven. That's where you'll be when you taste the pastries in this divine little shop staffed entirely by French nuns. THIS is the place to pick up a delicious contribution to a party-- an artistic fruit tart, a tray of scrumptious cookies or even a chocolate cake that can only be called "sinful." Enough jokes. The sisters know their way around the baking oven and then some. I've noticed they have frequent French clientele (a friend from Paris who makes special trips here to get their baguettes says because it's the only place that gets them right.) You will never go wrong with a selection from their case. Something for the teachers' lounge. A friend's dessert buffet. The celebration that calls for a cake that's truly special. Everyone always asks where you got it, they're that good. And if you pick up a mini-pastry for yourself while you're there? Don't feel too guilty. After all, the money is going to a good cause. read more

The quality is actually quite mediocre, also I don't know what kind of Sisters keep working on Sundays?!

I really don't get the hype. The croissants we tried were basically inedible. I was expecting a super authentic experience but it was the exact opposite. My husband lived in France for a number of years and couldn't get over that these are supposed to be French nuns. The people working there were pleasant enough and it's a great location but unfortunately, absolutely not worth the high prices. read more

Hearty... 3.5 for my overall experience. Had I followed Gerry G's advice to have my croissant warmed up, I might have enjoyed it even more. I've been to the Vernon Hills location, and this stop feels much smaller with less product, but nonetheless it's all very delicious and authentic...and mostly organic. I also think it's a lovely addition to the Wilmette community. I really appreciated my hearty chocolate/almost croissant. It was dense and not light and falling apart, flaky like so many other croissants I've had. Also, there was no skimping on the filling. But, take Gerry's advice and have it warmed up. The service was friendly, though we were overcharged a bit. When we tried to explain more than once, the cashier didn't seem to understand and we gave up trying. We didn't have cash and needed to use our debit card. Since they have a rule that you need to spend $10 to use a card, we ordered up an Americano and a vanilla latte. Apparently the espresso is the way to go. I typically find an Americano to be too strong, but I enjoyed it more than my vanilla latte. Bold and smooth. My croissant was $3.90 and worth it. The other pastries and desserts seemed pricey in the case, but I bet they are completely over the top delicious. Next time I'm coming for the baguette! Hope they add more product :-) read more
