Great place for a nice brunch with friends! Very hide inside with seating options as there are couches on the side for those that jut wanna place to chill with a coffee and read a book or table tops on the main dining area. Went there this past Saturday with friends and glad that we got there when we did because the line just kept growing lol. I got the Sweet Potato bowl and added some smoked salmon to it and did not regret my choice at all. Flavorful, healthy yet, satisfying. And the pastry display caught my attention (as it always does anywhere I go) so just had to snag their newer item...the Walnut Chocolate Chip Banana bread which was a nice way to end this brunch. This is going to be a nice go-to brunch spot in downtown Evanston for me...and apparently the rest of Evanston from what I saw lol. Popular spot and I see why. Pricing for the level of quality is quite good. Ambiance is nice and good for meeting with someone or working. So why four stars? I was charged a different price at the register than was shown on the board for my drink, and some of the lounge chairs/sofas have staining that should be addressed. Other than that, solid choice. One last note, if the parking right outside is full, finding parking can be a bit tricky so plan accordingly. read more

Great place to stop for all day brunch, breakfast or lunch. We arrived towards the end of lunch and place was packed and quite loud. Order at counter, but some of the breads were out, and not so easy to substitute. Food came out haphazardly in small bursts. Kale and fennel salad had very little fennel, some kale and romaine... The gravalox was delicious on baguette, but a tad salty. Avocado wrap was good, as was Mac n cheese, burger and turkey sandwich. Sweet potato side came out last, but nice and crispy. This place is one to avoid. I used to feel sorry for local businesses in evanston and how they're not surviving but yesterday's experience was a great reason why. I met a friend at this establishment and when I got to the table, I met him and went to go order my omelette with chicken sausage and a coffee. I could not hear the person taking my order and she looked super annoyed when I leaned into her and asked her to repeat herself. I asked her to speak, louder politely by the way, and she continued to roll her eyes at me and not raise her voice to where I could hear. when I got back to my chair, another customer had taken it because I was gone and when I tried to move it back, she caused a scene and told me it was her chair. It took about 10 minutes for someone to assist me in finding another chair or another table. Again, I wasn't asking for much I was just asking for someplace to sit because an older lady took my chair and I did not want to make a scene. When I received my coffee, it was the wrong order. I didn't say anything. I just took it back to my table and didn't want to make a big deal about it and then when I received my omelette, they didn't prepare it the way I asked them to and they left the chicken sausage off and gave me hashbrowns only. I never asked for hashbrowns. When I tried to show the server my order he just looked at me and walked away. My conworker asked if I wanted to leave and I didn't. However what a horrible dining experience. If you want better food and customer service go to le peep instead. This place has a long way to go to make it a customer friendly place. Great spot for coffee and food. Went on a Sunday morning, so it was busy and we had to wait a little bit-not too long, though. Their system seemed a little disorganized, but we also didn't wait long so it wasn't too bad. Their menu isn't huge, but there were still lots of delicious options. I got a vanilla latte with oat milk (I'm always happy when a place has oat milk!) and a midwestern omelet. The food came out incredibly quickly, which was nice. The drinks were apparently supposed to be picked up at a counter-they should out your name. But, it was super busy when we were there so when we were seated at the table I didn't hear my name (thankfully an employee brought it over to me). The drink was delicious and I loved the little latte heart on it. The omelet was good, though the texture of it was a little 'fluffier' than I'm used to. Not necessarily bad, but not quite what I was expecting. Prices were reasonable, and portion sizes were large (my omelet came with a big side of hashbrowns, I did not finish either). This is such a cute bakery in Evanston! They have great coffee and a huge selection of both savory and sweet pastries. I wish I could try them all in my visit! Was not a fan of the chai, but the iced caramel latte we got was great. The food was delicious and came out quickly. Would return, for the food and the coffee, just not the chai. I originally issued a glowing five star review on Google because I was extremely impressed with how professional and kind the entire staff was and the fact that their menu is extensive, the food was reliably delicious and the restaurant itself so lovely with good vibes and wonderful customers. My last visit however was soured by the older Greek Gentlemen who owns these restaurants. I had no idea who he was initially; but he approached me rather unkindly and demanded I leave and take my soup to go because he felt my service dog was too large for his restaurant/ coffee shop. I was in shock and told him I need my dog with me and I had been a regular visitor here for two months and my dog is extremely gentle and well trained. He suggested I tie my service dog up on a pole outside and I said No. I finished my meal and left quietly and never returned. There's a kind and respectful way to treat your loyal customers and a very gruff and rude way and he chose the latter. This dismissive and unkind behavior made me feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. I spent quite a bit of money there and never once received an award because the people at the counter taking orders never advised me to include my phone number so I could accrue points. The seating here is also extremely crowded and a very tight fit where you can barely squeeze yourself in and out of your bench or walk past people in the aisles. The owner should have asked me kindly that he was concerned my dog may be too large due to seating restrictions. He could have issued me a coupon and said moving forward our restaurant can no longer accommodate a service animal as large as yours but please do come alone and we'd love to have you back. Because the owner Alex Georges was so abrupt and rough I am not inclined to support his businesses anymore. Money has been extremely tight for me these days and if he can treat his customers so callously and flippantly as to order them around in his dining establishments I feel uncomfortable visiting again. Moving forward please do not treat your customers so coldly. Please respect your customers who have been loyal to you. There is a kind and gentle way of communicating and I was not treated with kindness nor respect. read more

I visited in the afternoon with my family for a midday coffee and snack. My husband had an iced latte with their homemade caramel, and I tried the chai latte. My kids were excited to have the carrot cake and the chocolate mouse cake, along with a butter croissant. The croissant is so flakey and buttery! The carrot cake is amazing! The service was good. We really enjoyed what we ordered, but they definitely need a rehaul at the Evanston location. There are huge dips in the booths against the wall, and it is not safe. Cupitol is a favorite choice of our daughter's and they certainly seem to have a following. Brisk business whenever we stop in. The system is: order first, then one can grab a table. The manager mentioned (while we were discussing WiFi issues) that they request guests to choose sofa or high table seating if they need to be on computers during the busy weekend brunch rush. Not a problem for us; this was comfier anyway. They had lots of staff turning over tables quickly and they seemed able to handle to flow of typical Sunday morning crowds. Over NU parents' weekend, the line went out the door. Keep that in mind if time is an issue for you on busy NU weekends (move-in, etc.) Today we were able to order and find a seat at one of the comfy couch spaces. My salted caramel latte was a bit on the cooler side than I prefer. It arrived at a lukewarm heat and cooled quickly from there. I love a latte with heat. But it was presented artfully and tasted good. The pistachio croissant I've had before and it's delicious. Today I took mine to-go for the airplane, and ordered the avocado wrap for breakfast. This scrambled egg/guac/pico wrap provided the perfect amount of sustenance without being too heavy. My husband devoured his shroom omelette and gave it a thumbs up. :) Cupitol is more than your standard coffee shop with diverse, flavorful menu options. Definitely worth a visit! read more
