Japanese Curry Hash Bowl with freshly squeezed OJ and an extra hash
    Paul J.

After the first real snow in years, we wandered through Rogers Park searching for a hot breakfast and came upon Eggs with Benefits, a new eatery by Loyola. Order at the digital kiosk, then have a seat and wait for your name. I was impressed with the size of the portions - the bowls are large enough to share. And they tasted great, too! The Japanese Curry bowl is a large bowl of rice covered in soft, scrambled eggs, genuine SB Golden Curry, with a crispy hash brown potato on top. Each bite was full of flavor, and it was gone before we blinked. Washed it down with a cup of freshly squeezed OJ and a black coffee, and I was ready to meet the day. If you haven't tried Eggs with Benefits, you're missing out! This is a great local place offering up tasty eats with good ingredients. Stop by and give them a try!

I came here on Saturday for an early lunch. It was easy to get a table and ordering is easy with the touch screens. The food came out pretty quickly. I got the soft scramble sandwich and it was delicious. The egg was perfectly cooked. I want to try the other sandwiches and the other offerings there. I tried the side of kimchi and it was hot. I was not expecting kimchi to be hot as it's normally served cold. I think it would have been better cold.

Can only speak to the food as we ordered breakfast to be delivered. The steak Sando was delish. I think the steak bowl was alright, sometimes challenging to tell if it's the right cut of steak. It was a flavorful breakfast nonetheless.

Eggs with Benefits is a newer addition to Rogers Park and I can only imagine what it's like to have such a cool breakfast spot on Loyola's campus! They have Asian-inspired egg bowls like a doshirak and Japanese curry hash bowl as well as delicious egg sandwiches! We tried their Slagel Sausage and Egg sandwich which is an incredible combination of slagel farms pork sausage, soft scrambled eggs, cheese, garlic mayo, chives, and caramelized onions on a brioche bun. Service was quick and there was a lot of space for seating inside! I would LOVE to return and highly recommend you check it out!

First of all, love the name it's very cute and spot on. We ordered the slaver farms sausage sando's this morning which were pretty good. Very savory bites, but I think it needed a vegetable like arugula or a sweet jam to balance out the cheese. My husband absolutely loved it exactly how it was. We also tried out the doshirak which we both absolutely loved.

Place has potential but still not ready to play with the big boys. My dislikes were the sauce wasn't plentiful albeit being responsible for 90% of the flavor. I also didn't like the fact that steak was sort of ground up thus leading it to be messy & most of it residing or falling into your plate. Cheese was correct & the prices are on par with most of the city at around $12 a sandwich. Again decent sandwich but far from the best in the city.

Great scramble eggs in all the dishes and having them in traditional and less common ways (doshirak and Japanese curry). Would have loved to have less plastic (bowls come in ready-to-go takeout bowls which you can slap a lid on for leftovers to take). Would have been fine with tap water (not sure what beverage is best here if not coffee). Canned calamansi soda might have been one option. Of course tap water in a plastic cup is only part-way better than plastic bottled water...just looking at a better beverage pairing while keeping costs down in this counter-service small staff approach. Much more impressed with the egg skills here than another breakfast sandwich place in RP. Thanks Will and Andrew for another great launch in the RP area.

There is outdoor seating under a pergola lined with semi-private planters, while the inside features a bar, high tops, low tops, and large booths. The music was upbeat, giving the space an elevated lounge vibe that pairs really well with the upholstered booths and vintage industrial design. I ordered the Wolf Burger, which is a whopping three-patty burger. That first bite was juicy and pure bliss--a total explosion of great flavors. It was a little messy (like all burgers with an egg), but the extra liquid was perfect for balancing the density of such a meaty burger. The soft bun soaked in a lot of those juices with each bite, intensifying the flavor as I ate more. The fries were thin and on the greasier side--not my personal favorite, but they worked alright as a vehicle for the sauce. Speaking of which, the chili aioli served with the fries was fantastic. We also got the mac and cheese, which hit a great balance between rich and creamy without feeling excessively wet. The boat it came in was a bit small, making it a little messy to scoop out with the serving spoon, but it was soooo good. Overall, it is absolutely a fantastic neighborhood place for comfort food and drinks with friends in a great space!

And I don't eat meats that are made with nitrates. So that knocks out the whole sandwich menu. Oh and I just don't like mushrooms. It's not their problem! Believe me, I know I'm a hot mess. You can't just order a sandwich with chicken and arugula because everything is pre-made and the chicken diced up and is already mixed with red bell peppers, more like a chicken salad sandwich, rather than just a piece of chicken breast waiting for some bread and accoutrements which is what I expected after reading the menu on my phone the day before choosing it for a visit. So it's impossible to get a custom sandwich where you pick and choose what's on it. But they were extremely nice answering all my questions about the food. I could maybe get some focaccia and a side of broccoli if I was desperate and nothing else was open. But I was in no rush and just went home and made something for myself. But my partner really enjoyed it so I'm glad we stopped by to check it out. It's definitely unique and convenient if you don't have so many food allergies like I do. I had already had my coffee fix for the day so I neglected to ask if they have nondairy milk options. There's limited seating inside but lots outside if the weather's nice! Cute little place.

I doubt anyone leaves feeling less jolly than they did going in. On this visit, I started with the After Word to drink. It was light-bodied, not at all too sweet, and possibly went down *too* easily. We split the short rib poutine and I can't think of a better dish to get you through the winter. The meat absolutely melted in the mouth and the cheese was abundant and rich. Would order again in a heartbeat! We also tried the alligator bites as a seasonal special. I'd not had alligator before, but they were super crispy and spicy with an addictive gochujang sauce. It really does taste like chicken. If you've ever wanted to try alligator, this is the place to do it. For the main event, I opted for the red beans and rice hand pie. It came with a light, citrus salad and delicious hand cut fries with 3 dipping sauces, which were very fun to try. I loved the buttery pie crust but the filling tasty very tomato forward- I was missing the heat of a traditional red beans & rice and wished there was more seasoning. Still good. As usual, the portions were generous for the price and we left with leftovers. Absolutely recommend making the trek over here to give B&B a try, and will be back soon!

And you know what would help the vibe even more? Including the bread pudding on the menu full time. Keeping that bad boy stocked for me at all times. Then I had a smash burger - it was good, but I forgot I am not a fan of American cheese which made the burger...I don't know, creamy? The burger itself was good. (2) If you keep walking through the front bar area, you reach the host stand at the top of the ramp. This is where you can put your name in to sit in the main dining room, upstairs, or outside. This is our preferred spot because we can often find a seat and order with the bar. Do note that, during busy times, part of this bar area is managed by the host stand and will be labeled as such. The extensive beer menu is our favorite. We have our favorite food items, so all our decision making revolves around which beer we will get. They always have a bit of everything style-wise, from all over the world, but with a local-brewery focus. Seasonal emphasis is also taken into consideration when they curate the beer list. It is always rotating and we love it! Beers are served in the recommended glasses from the breweries. It's a great drinking experience from start to finish! Our food orders are eternally set: I get the Nueske Ham sandwich with fries and aioli. My husband gets the Reuben sandwich with fries and aioli. This meal is so perfect we'll probably never get anything different, despite the menu being delicious across the board. The wildest we get is sometimes splitting the two sandwiches.
