I dont frequent the area a lot so this place is totally new to me and some friends recommended it. Their burger was really good. It's very juicy and not overcooked. I had the Tonkatsu rice bowl and the Mayo was spot on. We also had the dumpling and I tried two of them and one was really spicy but with the dipping sauce I loved it and I want to go back for it. I would definitely go back whenever I'm in the area to try more stuff on the menu. I went with friends here and got the Korean bbq chicken bowl. Immediately after finishing the bowl I felt sick. Not just normal food poisoning though, it felt like I was high on some substance (hot flashes, light headed, nausea, dry mouth). My friend who got the same type of bowl also felt terrible after eating, and our other friend who didn't order the same bowl as us felt fine. I think there's something sinister happening here. I don't know who made our bowls but I was so close to taking myself to the emergency room. They need to be shut down. read more

After a long weekend in Chicago we decided to end it at a Diners Drive Ins and Dive spot and it did not disappoint! We went around 2:00pm on a Sunday. Parking was a little difficult to find, but after driving around the block a couple of times we lucked out and found a parking spot across the street. We ordered our food from a kiosk they have set up. Our food was ready in no-time. We got the BBQ chicken bowl, a deluxe burger, and kimchi fries. Everything was amazing. When looking for a place to eat near my friend's apartment, he suggested bopNgrill. Located on the Loyola University Chicago campus, this restaurant was actually featured on Guy Fieri's television show Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives (Season 15, Episode 2; https://www.foodnetwork.com/shows/diners-drive-ins-and-dives/episodes/goin-the-extra-mile ). So if the food is good enough for Guy Fieri, it's good enough for me. When you first walk in, you notice a map covering a cork board where customers can place a pin to indicate where they're visiting from. You can order using the two touchscreens near the back of the restaurant. We came pretty late at around 8:00 PM, so about an hour before they closed, on a Sunday to get dinner. I ordered the bNg 2.0 burger ($10.49) while my friend ordered the duxelle 2.0 burger ($10.49). We also got the kimchi fries ($8.49) to share. The order took longer than I expected, especially since there were only two other customers when we walked in, and they already had their food, but I'm assuming the employees still had to prepare pickup orders. Once the food was ready, they called my name, and I picked it up at the counter. Honestly, I was pretty hungry, so I ate my burger quickly and didn't spend much time examining the different components of the burger. All I remember is that it was savory, a bit messy, and tasty. The kimchi fries were great too. One small gripe: I do wish they came with more kimchi on top. I was in Chitown, and bopNGrill was walking distance from our hotel. The menu and reviews looked good, so we decided to give it a whirl. Its on Sheridan & Albion in Rogers Park, and they serve K fuzn. I ordered cheese fries ($3.99) and the fire chicken plate ($10.99 | inc rice, salad & kimchee). Bowls are $3 less and have 1/2 the protein and no kimchee. The cheese fries were aurite. They were basically fries with nacho cheese on top. Nonetheless, the fries were crispy b4 the cheese went on top. Secondarily, the plate was just okay. The chicken had a little kick, but it really didn't have a distinct flavor. However, it was a big portion, and I was full (though not satisfied). Regarding the ambiance, its a cas place. You order at the counter and pick up your food. There is indoor and outdoor dining. Likewise, the service was a bit too cas. The buzzer indicated my food was ready. However, the cashier couldn't move the bag to where I was standing at the other end of the counter. I had to walk to where I ordered (most places have a designated order here and pick up here area). On top of the foregoing, the default tip on a finger sig machine is 25%: You gotta be fukn kidding me?! BopNGrill is right by Loyola University, and is prolly okay for college students. Visiting Rogers Park, I found myself at the BopNGrill with a growling stomach. I got the Fire Tofu bowl with a fried egg on top and a side of jalapeños. It was deeelicious! The tofu was perfectly cooked, a little firm and crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. And the "fire" was spicy enough to get a thumbs up from me. The rice was also perfectly cooked, not too soft and provided a nice bland contrast to the fire tofu. The egg was also a nice addition, but the only problem is that the egg yolk stuck to the lid of the takeout container. What can you do in pandemic times when you gotta order takeout? No matter, a flip of the fork and it found it's way back to the bowl. The salad greens were fresh and calm in contrast to the fire tofu, and the poppyseed dressing was a cool addition to the flavors. An awesome experience of Korean Cuisine... I first discovered this restaurant nearly 6 years ago now (omg!) when I interned at Loyola University for a summer when I was in college (Illinois Wesleyan University, Go Titans!). I'm just realizing that most times when I come back to visit friends/family in Chicago area I stop by! There's lake access right across the street with many small beaches (The Loyola Lakeshore Campus is just stunning) so I stop by after visiting the beach. I love their BBQ Tofu Bop Bowl. It's so hearty but also light, delicate, unique, and super tasty flavors... and the vibe of the restaurant is just wonderful along with a very kind, upbeat, friendly staff. I got the spicy pork dumplings and the bulgogi beef bowl and loved both!! The bowl was pretty big for just me, so I saved what was leftover for dinner. The spicy pork dumplings were sooo good, both with and without the sauce they come with. bopNGrill is always a multi-napkin affair. My favorite burgers are the bNg burger (get probably 75% of the time) and the Duxelle (pronounced ducks-elle, no deluxe) burger. The bNg burger's highlight is the runny egg, which made me question why I never ate more burgers with runny eggs when I was growing up. Paired the a bit of sweet from the sauce & spice from the jalapenos = full flavor profile. The Duxelle's gouda pairs perfectly with the mushroom & mayo for some melt-in-your-mouth goodness. I have tried: Chicken Rice Bowl Kimchi Burger Double patty burger with Gouda cheese Kimchi Fries Regular Fries Ice cream I recommend alllll of these! Outdoor patio is pretty neat and I love how it's BYOB. My friends and I ate and hung out here for 2.5 hours and it was a blast. Dinner was scrumptious, memorable, and reasonably priced. I'm just obsessed. My ex boyfriend brought home food from the Lakeview location once and even though the relationship is long over, my love for BNG lives on. I go to the Loyola location because it's much more conveniently located to where I live but both are great! I have to confess that I've only tried three things from here. Everything else looks great too but my go to of the fire chicken bowl and cheese fries checks every food craving I could possibly be having. I've also tried the weekend-only cheesesteak eggrolls too and they're fabulous- but I dunno if they're doing them now because of the pandemic. The portions are generous and decently priced but I would pay even more for the food because it's just so tasty!
