This place has changed ownership a few times, and I think people sorta stopped coming here because of experiences under previous management. Having eaten here under at least 3 owners over 13 years, the current management is the best I've experienced. The food and drinks are delicious, and the service was fast and attentive! We had 2 of the Belgian waffles (delicious), a steamed bagel sandwich (I didn't have any, but the empty wrapper suggests my wife thoroughly enjoyed it!), and I also tried a "Chainana" smoothie (Chai and Banana) which was heavenly. It was a beautiful spring day, and they have a lovely patio on a relatively quiet corner right on the outer limit of downtown Evanston. I had a very unpleasant experience here on my first visit. My real estate agent gave me a gift certificate when I moved to the neighborhood in July, so I came in to use it for lunch. When I presented the card, the cashier had to make multiple phone calls to figure out how to process it. She then told me it was expired because it said "expiry July," even though the card had just been purchased. She also misread the wording--it said "From Jane" (my realtor's name), but she thought it meant it was valid "Jan through July." When I tried to politely explain, she began raising her voice at me. It was incredibly rude and uncomfortable. I felt pressured to just pay with my own card, and honestly, the food was mediocre and overpriced on top of the bad service. Food is very fresh. I had the lox and bagel this time, very good. Their homemade liege waffles are also great and authentic. The staff are polite and great, too. The big downside. Drinks. They have a fountain soda machine that has "out of supply" signs on each flavor. They then have big sign at the cash register that says fountain drinks are $1.29. They suggest you get a can instead. I asked is it same price as fountain, they say yes. But then surprise. When ring me up, want to charge me almost double. I ask and they say oh that's the can price. I'd think this is a one time thing, but in reading other reviews here I see that this is constant. Their fountain machine has been "out of stock" for a very long time. So it feels like a classic bait and switch. Signs saying one price but steering you to secretly get charged more. Not cool imo. read more

This place is located in downtown evanston. Further, one of my favorite chicago suburbs. There's paid parking all around for most days, but it's pretty cheap. I think it might be free on Sundays and it's possible to find free parking a couple of blocks away. The place itself is small and cute. They have a fake fireplace in the back with some cozy furniture. They require vaccination card and masks upon entering, which isn't a problem. This time I tried their breakfast sandwiches, which are pretty good for the price! Not an extensive coffee menu, but good enough. They also have some books to read and a board game or two to choose from. Overall, this is a cute coffee shop to stop by if you're in the area! read more

Experience: We were in the area and wanted something quick to eat. Berry Pike is an excellent place for breakfast sandwiches and coffee. The staff was very friendly and professional. Note: they do check for vaccination cards if you decide to dine in, which is fine with me! Everyone is safe! Parking: It appears to be paid street parking. Unsure about free spots. Maybe at residential spots, but just be aware of permit signs. Worth: If you are by the area, yea this place is worth it. I had the sunrise breakfast Sandwich (as pictured below) and it was very fulfilling. I also had the mocha latte and it did the job to wake me up. A lovely little Cafe with the nicest person working! I popped in to Berry Pike today, after waiting in line at the Post Office for 25 minutes to pick up my package. I ordered the turkey bagel with cream cheese, avocado, tomatoes, sprouts and chips. The man who took my order (possibly the owner?) noticed that my package was mailed from India, and I mentioned that I ordered tea from Darjeeling. I told him it took 2 months to arrive. He said, "Well if you need tea from India, I have family there and they will get it for you. They will send it much faster!" Who offers to order tea, from India, for a stranger? This awesome and kind man. A man who now has a customer for life in me. The bagel sandwich was delightful: Melty, cheesy, super fresh veggies. I ate every bite. My first impression of Berry Pike is that it's a super cute café that's perfect for solo study or solo dining sessions. The inside is spacious with a lot of small tables meant for two person groups. They have a few arm chairs in the the back of the café next to the fire place. The arm chairs and fire place add a nice cozy touch to the place. Berry Pike offers free WiFi and reasonably priced food. The sandwiches are pretty hearty with a price tag of $7 and some change. The food was delicious. The staff that I interacted with were very friendly and welcoming. Berry Pike gets very busy throughout the day but they always have ample sitting no matter how busy it gets. read more

This is a cute place that I didn't know existed. Friends of mine were coming here on a Sunday morning before heading to the farther suburbs and asked me if I wanted to meet them for breakfast. When they mentioned this place I had to look it up, because I had no idea. It's a hidden gem, as it's a bit far from "downtown proper", though it's still fully accessible. It turns out I drive by it all the time, but it's a little nondescript from the outside. The coffee I had was great. The inside has a mix of lounge furniture and regular tables/chairs, and it's not trying overly hard to have a particular vibe (it's not #aesthetic). It's just very much your 90s/00s coffee shop, and it totally works. Oddly, there's no menu posted, so I didn't really know what to get or what was available, for that matter. Eventually my friend pointed out the paper menu at the counter (and if I recall correctly, I don't think there were prices listed...I might be wrong, but that's in my head for some reason). My friends both had bagels with various toppings, and they both looked really good. It's a little out of the way from where I would typically choose to go to hang out for a few hours, but I'd have no problem going back if I was meeting people who wanted to go. read more

This is a great bakery in Evanston if you're looking for a good sandwich. I've had several, and each one is delicious. Since they're steamed, the bagel is soggy and messy to eat but so tasty. At $7/sandwich you can't really go wrong here. The only downside is it can take a while to get your order if there is someone ahead of you. My love and I stopped in one day after working out...it was decent however my lox bagel was a bit scarce on the veggies so I said next time I'll ask for extra veggies. So we stopped in today optimistically and I simply asked for extra veggies. As you can see from the picture either they ignored the request or have a very different understanding of "extra." For a latte, a lox bagel, a regular coffee, and a slice of zucchini bread were out of $22. And now I'm home remaking the $10 sandwich and my latte taste like it was made with water, no richness whatsoever. The thing that frustrates me with businesses is the fact that they don't understand or care that we make a conscious choice to spend our money with them vs an alternative. Terribly disappointing. Won't be back. If you like lox bagels, head over to Bagel Art on Dempster, I wish I would've this morning *sigh* So the owner wrote a passage to respond to my review, never received a message.
