The Candlelight Pizza they're offering now was great and the delivery was very fast! All the food I've had from Bluestone has been tasty.

I live nearby, and have been going to Bluestone for 10 months. Each and every time I would go--the service just gets worse, Worse, WORSE...to the point of completely unacceptable (today). I sat at the bar, did not get so much as an icewater, let alone any eye contact, or even any acknowledgement that I have a pulse; I am at your bar; and at some point in time, down the line--I actually might want a MENU--which I had to personally ask for--over 20 minutes after seating myself. There were four workers on their staff, behind the bar. They did not seem to be doing much (of anything). I had to personally ask for my water refill, each and every time. The service is so completely slow and incompetent, I had to cancel an order and leave--it took so long, and I was having diabetes problems--still, however, for the price they try to charge for their drinks on tap, and the price they try to charge for their overrated (at best) food; the "bar talent" and/or professionalism/efficiency of their staff, from top to bottom--is considerably lacking. My experience at Bluestone is worse, Worse, WORSE--each and every following time I make the (poor) decision to go. I really wish Central and Prairie had other bars, with better culture, better professionals, and better "bar talent"--because a place like Bluestone would be GONE in FIVE MONTHS. As I checked out today, one of the bartenders, a young African-American male--made it a point--to tell me "he was giving me a great deal on my tab; half price off my second beer." There is a problem, though--I only ordered, and drank, one beer. He was clearly embarrassed (as he should be), when I explained this to him, and then he 1)stared me down, and 2) threatened me. That is a walking definition of U N P R O F E S S I O N A L. I will happily drive across the North Shore--than walk 200 yards to Bluestone. The food is decent. The beer on tap is solid...but the Glaring, overall lack of Bar Talent, along with the piss-poor and UNPROFESSIONAL service--I just...I can't...I can not, in good conscience--bring myself to ever go back there, again. I am 46 years old, and have worked in the restaurant/bar industry for 30 of them... It is "Amateur Hour" at Bluestone, every moment of every day. They do not even look at you (customers). Totally unaware, spaced-out, not-at-all focused...Not just (anybody) can be a decent bartender--it kind of helps to be somewhat "sharp", somewhat "alert", be somewhat cordial, friendly, or amiable...Nope! NONE of that, at Bluestone. What a waste--of perfectly-good real estate--in an otherwise beautiful part of Evanston. Bluestone is a STAIN on the Community. read more

We came here for Monday BOGO pizza. At 5:30 it was kinda quiet. a half hour later the place was packed. The service was super. we ordered the deluxe 10". The crust was super crisp not floppy at all. packed with yummy tomato sauce an pepperoni, sausage and really juicy green peppers. The salmon looked really good. kid friendly not overly loud. My favorite burger in Evanston. You can build your own or choose one from the menu which is extensive so lots to choose from. They also have a great selection of local brews and cocktails. The staff is very friendly and this is a great pre or post location if you're attending a Northwestern game. Fantastic ambiance all around. read more

Had dinner with my bf tonight. Our server (might also be the owner) was so nice and welcoming. Vibes were chill, just what we were looking for. We ordered fried pickles, jerk chicken bowl, and jicama salad with grilled chicken added. All tasted great and became a part of my clean plate club. Good portions too!! read more

Very convenient Northwestern / Sports restaurant after you've done anything in Evanston whether it's catching a movie, shopping or going to a NW football game. This spot has a bit of an upscale vibe with commensurate prices including an amazing Kale & Quinoa salad (trust me!) and good pizza, sandwich and burger options. They recently removed grilled chicken from the menu but they will convert any sandwich or burger into one if you ask. The kitchen was a little sloppy tonight but the service was excellent about remedying the situation. read more

Just wanted to give a big shout out tonight to Jacqueline, a very busy server at the Bluestone. Our server forgot to pack up my meal in a to-go box and left for the day. When I asked Jacqueline about it (who is the only server still working) she checked on it and realized he had forgotten to pack up my meal. She made sure that I got my full meal replaced even with the blackened salmon on top, all for free. She did that even while serving multiple tables. I really liked this place! I work in the area and have been trying for roughly a year to find a nice spot for a burger and a beer. I came here before a basketball game last week and while I am shocked I have never been here before, it won't be my last time. This place is a little bit on the smaller side, but I sat at the bar. It looks like it gets busy often so the servers were kind of running around alot. However, when they did speak to me, they were excellent. I went with their Central Street Melt (their version of a Patty Melt) and that was EXACTLY what I had a taste for! Everything was very good including the fries. They also ran a pretty nice Happy Hour which worked well for my situation. Really the only "downside" was that it looks like they can get overwhelmed quickly as I mentioned that the service was a smidgen slow. Still, that shouldn't keep anybody from coming to this place. If you are looking for an upscale sports bar that is OPEN FOR LUNCH, look no further than Bluestone. I tend to have lunch meetings with vendors. Evanston has been lacking on some hip lunch spots so this is going on the list (sans beer of course!) read more

Ended up walking on Central Street to try and find a restaurant to stop in and grab dinner. The Bluestone Happy Hour sign from 4-7 on weekdays was enticing enough for me and my friend to go in. When we came inside and got to our table we asked for a booth but we were told reservations were coming in and would be utilizing the booths. So we sat in regular seats. By the end of our time eating and drinking we noticed we could have easily sat in the booths because reservations had not come in yet and we wouldn't have disrupted these reservations that were in place. Besides that, service and food was good. I enjoyed the burger and fries I ordered. A bit on the pricey side, especially for the appetizers, but overall a good experience was had at Bluestone. read more

They have been serving this pizza since they opened many years ago and I've been here dozen's of times and I can't explain why I haven't written a review. Horrible experience and unprofessional hospitality. Must be their first time running a restaurant. Showed up around 4pm to an empty restaurant with a group of 13. Stayed for an hour and half and racked up a $550 bill. Proceeded to get 1 table told to leave, so 3 out of the group of 13 (all family by the way) are supposed to go stand by the bar or leave restaurant? Drinks weren't even 1/2 way done either. I asked where I was supposed to finish my drink if I can't sit with my family and they said to stand by the bar. They also proceeded to say they have a 1.5 hr length policy but I went thru and website to make a reservation and didn't see that stated anywhere. I said all this to the hostess kicking us out and was met with sass from her. Sucks because we actually enjoyed our food but the hostess was so terrible I'll never go back or recommend. read more

I'm new to the area. Moved here from the West Coast. Like most city folk, I regularly dine out and in 30 years I've dined out, I have never had an experience as unsettling as Bluestone Grill. Let me say, I'm a black woman with a bi-racial child. Last week, I took my 2.5 yo toddler to lunch at Bluestone. It was slow. We were sat at an empty window bench. As my son was eating his grilled cheese sandwich, he was swinging his feet and passively hitting the bottom of the bench with the back of his rubber-soled shoes. I had to take a call. The waitress dropped the check, and then the manager, who was working on her computer in the bar, came over and spoke to my toddler directly and said, "Hey bud, can you stop kicking your chair--." I interrupted her and said, "Ma'am, please don't talk to my child directly. I'm sitting right here." She then, turned to me with a scowl and said, "well, he's misbehaving and you're just sitting there letting him do it." I disagreed and reiterated the point, "still, talk to me, not my kid." She then went further and said, "he's damaging our property and you're just sitting there." I then said, he's two, he's not damaging your property, and he is not 'misbehaving' he's just being a normal 2 yo child eating a grilled cheese sandwich. She rolled her eyes and stormed off back to her computer. I followed her and asked if she was the owner. She said she was the manager. I asked the waitress who the owner was. She was afraid to answer. She said "I'm not going to argue with you." I again said, "you don't talk to someone's kid directly to chastise them when their parent is sitting right next to them. That's inappropriate." For me, it felt like the manager was looking past me and talking to a race of people or all the customers with kids. I don't know, but whatever the reason it felt like we were being judged, policed, and, quite frankly, harrassed for no good reason. The thump of my child's little 2 yo feet did not warrant all that negative energy on a weekday afternoon. Especially when the check was already served and it's a SPORTS BAR. I've looked over the reviews and have seen other people have had disrespectful and biased experiences with the management and staff at this restaurant. I contacted the owner, Pat Fowler. He insisted on a phone call that never happened so I got on a call with the other owner, Molly Fowler. She was completely defensive. She said her husband was handling and she didn't know what I wanted. After writing the whole experience in an email, I had to go through the whole thing again. She didn't think there was anything wrong with correcting someone's kid if they're running around a restaurant. But my kid wasn't running around the restaurant, he was sitting right next to me. She could see the mom-shaming in that but her manager is an older lady who does things differently. The manager also lied and said, the customers next to us complained. There was no customer next to us, a fact that the owners could've verified by checking table numbers at the time I was in their restaurant. I pointed out, I was entitled to have boundaries for my child, and a restaurant manager's appropriate response to my reasonable request should have been, "No problem. Can you please get him to stop kicking the bench." I have friends who own restaurants, and I have a hard time believing there is a context under which they would be okay with a manager chastising a PAYING CUSTOMER's kid for no serious reason; telling a customer that they were "just sitting there letting their kid misbehave" when the kid is quietly eating a sandwich, or telling a customer they were allowing their kid to "damage property" when no damage was evident would be a red flag. If I owned a restaurant, the statements would be a tell that the manager has gotten too comfortable speaking to customers out of turn. Especially when there are complaints about management on review sites. Maybe it's hard to find restaurant managers, but this place doesn't seem to care much about customer service or its patrons beyond collecting money for mediocre food. The manager should've been reprimanded not defended. I'll be shocked if this place stays profitable much longer with this level of customer service. read more

I love the food! Expect a bar, pub atmosphere with killer food! Their prices are great for the amount of food and drinks that you get. The customer service is amazing! Colleen is awesome and pours Guinness like a goddess! It's seriously a straight up talent! :0) Sit at the bar after a long day, have a meal and order a drink. I've had the chicken nachos which are stellar! They are plentiful so just order a small and you are good! You even can have them the next day and they are just as fire! Also the steak quesadilla has it going on as well! You can even be healthy and get a killer Cobb salad or southwest salad. Didn't have it myself but heard from friends it was awesome. A restaurant begins with the food, and the food here is very good. I had a small chili and a small mac-and-cheese. The chili was just the right amount of spicy and had a mix of interesting tastes. The mac was very cheesy -- and without the breaded crust that many places add (unnecessarily). The people were very friendly, yet casual. They were always near by, and checked often without being intrusive. We left a generous tip. Bluestone offers a comfortable variety of bottle and draft beers; I had a Three Floyds hazy IPA, and it was the right amount of cold. Overall, a successful and enjoyable couple of hours. read more

I had a craving for grits. Did a search and guess what? Bluestone popped up and they have shrimp and grits. Your girl was down to try them. Protein and carbs and fat (macros). We ordered shrimp and grits and buttered noodles. The shrimp and grits didn't not travel well in the food delivery service but the food was in the packaging just a lot of juice or pot liquor. The shrimp and grits was enough for maybe two people to eat. There was a nice serving of white cheesy grits (the cheese was not overbearing or excessive) with exactly 5 medium/jumbo tail on shrimp, green and red bell peppers, and real bacon pieces. My friend said it was a Louisiana shrimp and grits because of the sauce. The buttered noodles traveled by delivery well. And was a nice sized portion. We've been here a few times, a couple when it was emptier, and once when it was packed. When they're packed, service certainly slows, but the value and the friendliness you meet here are phenomenal. Considering how pricey some options are these days, Bluestone gives you quantity and quality for the price that you pay, which is still reasonable. There's plenty of indoor and some outdoor seating, including some bar seating, and street parking (which can be tough on the weekends, during peak hours). There are a few TVs in the dining area for all your sports bar-goers, and they've got a decent beer/wine list. Pretty much everything we've tried have been solid and HUGE choices: Chicken Parm Sandwich Turkey Burger Blackened Fish Sandwich The only things that were slight misses were the Turkey Reuben - it just didn't taste right without the traditional reuben sauerkraut, but if you're good without that briney, pickled taste, then it was good. And the chicken tenders (on kids' menu), it's a hit or miss. First time we got it was great, the second time we got it it was overcooked and dry. read more

Craft beers on draft, great selection in bottles and cans. This is not where I'd go to find good wines, but with a half-dozen TVs tuned to sports, beer or liquor is the better option. I was impressed by the food at this restaurant with their generous portions. I got calamari and a pot pie. Calamari was pretty light and came with a tomato based sauce. The ppt pie was like a soup with a puff pastry on top rather than a full pie. No doubt it was quite delicious though. read more

Heard about this place from friends. It's been around a while but I had never eaten there. Great location in north Evanston, a great sidewalk cafe eating area, nice bar, the dining room fronted by large windows looking out on the street. Very attractive, friendly place. Had the second best pulled pork sandwich of my life. The best was my cousin's version which only took a week to make given the amount of smoking and testing, and preparing, and making the sauce. This sandwich is terrific, a very close second to the sine qua non of Ocilla fame. Great fries, super cold beer...Bluestone will become a habit. Wednesday pulled pork sandwiches and cold beers at Bluestone has a nice ring to it. Maybe after twenty weeks or so of the sandwich I'll try something else. When I do I'll report. read more
