Two things stood out to me as I walked into Stacked & Folded for the first time. First was the friendliness of the staff ready to answer any menu questions I had. Second was the amount of regulars that came in while I was waiting for my food. The customers that came in already knew what they wanted and chatted a bit with the staff. It wasn't overly busy when I was there. I took a bit of a late lunch. It was very clean and the staff was busy putting together to go orders. There were so many delicious sounding options on the menu. I decided to get the short rib banh mi with tater tots. I was really tempted to get the sweet potato fries, but couldn't pass up tater tots. My food came out fairly quickly and it looked delicious. The tater tots were crispy golden brown. And that's exactly what they were crispy and crunchy. The main part of my meal looked great as well. I was so glad that I came across this place. This banh mi was tasty. The meat was cooked well and tender. The Serrano aioli glued the sandwich together. I want to come back and I will come back. The sandwich contained apple which begged for salt and pepper...as the fries lacked salt. There was only one slice of apple per half the sandwich and I was shocked at the stinginess of the ingredients per the price. My husband and I came here for a quick dinner and loved this place . We are such big fans of the short rib sandwich. The Serrano solo really pulls together the entire dish. This was my second Stacked & Folded meal, but my first time at this location. I was tempted to get the same thing I had on my first visit, but convinced myself to venture out and try something else. I went with the Panko Crusted Avocado Salad which was absolutely delicious. Bonus: vegetarian! I love a good cold salad with hot toppings - not something I'm going to make at home. The coating on the avocado was thick enough to hold it all together in the fryer. That plus the salad and the dressing made for a really tasty lunch. I'll be back for more! P.S. My boyfriend got the burger and said it was just fine...nothing special. If you're looking to have something unique, consider what I had or the Short Rib Bahn Mi or the Bulgogi Cheese Steak. Stacked & Folded is located in a very nice area in Winnetka. Cool location in Lincoln Ave just east of Green Bay Road. My sis & I stopped in for a quick bite after our morning hike through The Chicago Botanical Gardens. Because of the Covid pandemic the restaurant is doing carry outs and had a limited number of tables outside for dining in front of the restaurant. As you approached the restaurant there was a table blocking the entry. They have a touch less menu w/a QR Reader on the table where you scan the image & it pulls up a menu on Safari or you can order off of the Yelp menu. The menu looked interesting. Since it was Taco Tuesday we went there for a taco. What we found was $6 for a taco. To me that's a bit pricy for a single taco. I ordered a shrimp taco & a braised lamb taco, both were decent, but @ $6/taco I felt the price point was too much. I've had better tacos for less. The shrimp taco had a nice sized portion of shrimps, cabbage, tomatoes, & feta cheese that came on 2 corn tortillas. I also got a braised lamb taco w/cucumber mint relish, red onions & feta cheese on a pita bread shell. This taco was very dry & not very good. My sister ordered a Bulgogi cheese steak sandwich $13.95 that came w/sweet potato fries. The Bulgogi cheese steak looked really tasty, however I'm not really sure where the Bulgogi flavoring came into play. Again it was a nice sandwich which was presented very nicely however there wasn't anything that would make me order another one. The sweet potato fries however where excellent w/a delicious crunchy served hot and crispy. It was a picture perfect day to dine outside, but honestly I wasn't overly impressed w/the food items except the sweet potato fries. Gotten my favorite turkey and brie and also a Cajun salmon salad. From the last visit, there was half amount of brie and turkey so the flavor profile was a mouthful of bread with tiny goodness in the middle. Despite the salmon being flavorful and delicious, the brie sandwich was a disappointment. I can only cherish the old photo of the sandwich and remember how good it used to be. read more

I've been obsessed with stacked and folded for about 2 years now. They're portions are humongous and they're sandwiches are unbelievable. My favorite is the chicken Parmesan sandwich and I also got a side of tator tots which were amazing. I didn't eat inside because I was in a rush so I can't say much about the indoor seating or ambiance but the food doesn't disappoint. The only reason I'm not giving them a 5 is because my sandwich was about $18 which is a big pricey. read more

This order-at-the-counter restaurant is small, with seating for approximately 20. There is also outdoor seating on the sidewalk for another 20. It was a beautiful day so I chose to eat outside. Stacked & Folded is cute and quaint. It's located in the heart of Winnetka, offers a solid beverage selection and nice vibe, but the food, most importantly was underwhelming. We had lunch there yesterday, and there was quite a rush of folks dining in and carrying out. We ordered the Cuban and Korean Shortrib Banhmi with sweet potato fries and tots. The Cuban had decent flavor, but the bread was charred and also wasn't pressed. The Banhmi was the bigger letdown with hardly any filling; it was mostly all bread. Also, the veggies had no flavor, and the meat was hardly shortrib; it was merely unmarinated and unseasoned cheesesteak. Everything also felt very heavy, and it probably didn't help we sat at the counter where the frying and cooking was done in front of us. Not impressed. read more

It was the first time my wife and I stopped in here in Evanston. We simply wanted a cocktail at the small bar. Then my wife decided to order the guacamole and chips to tide us over until dinner. The guacamole was tasty and enjoyable. It is a college town restaurant with an expensive menu. The guacamole was $12.95. One taco ranges between$4.50 to $7.00 and if you want two tacos with beans and rice, you're looking at $17.00. If you like a half pound Kobe Beef burgers, it will run you $18-$19. A regular quarter pounder is$12.00 unless you'd like a double quarter pounder then it is $16.00. Burger King can't match that. The menu has plenty of variety including vegetarian. I have read many of other people's reviews and found a somewhat consistent complaint of stale or dried out bread or buns. I know as a former chef if I got stale bread, I'd ask for something fresher, letting the manager know. Yes, I will return and try some other items on the menu. Been coming here for a while now. Tasty place for a stylish sandwich or salad. Located in Winnetka just off of green bay road this little store front serves a nice variety of sandwiches. While everything on the menu is pretty good our favorites are the ahi tacos and the Korean short rib bahn mi. The bahn mi is a slightly spicy and slightly sweet sandwich that has a nice texture. Eat it quickly because it does get a bit soggy if left alone. The ahi tacos are a nice light starter or snack if you aren't super hungry. Other favorites are the duck bacon BLT and the short rib salad, Overall, a tasty cool non traditional selection of sandwiches. read more

The Cuban was a very generous size, yummy, and came with perfectly done fries. The braised short rib quesadilla was massive and the meat had just the right kick to it. I never really found the cheese, but the meat was delicious. One of us needs gluten free (gf) and it was great to see lots of options. Oddly you can get gf chicken in a salad, but not gf chicken in the tacos. The steak tacos did not disappoint tho. Small restaurant in Wilmette. So small that there's a table seating that can seat 6. I saw a table of 4 and a table of 2 when I went. I assume you might be able to squeeze in more people if you're really desperate. Otherwise there was a bar seating next to the counter that was about 10 seats. If you're go with a group of friends for a Sat lunch, be prepared to not have any seats. The name Stacked and Folded comes from either sandwiches that are stacked or tacos that are folded. Love this place. Love that I can order the food directly on Yelp! Making life easy for me. Food: The kids chicken tenders and fries are yummy - a hit with the kids. The grass fed burgers are delicious. For tacos, the chicken taco was a bit dry. The shrimp taco and salmon taco was good. My brother who visits me always gets the Pork Belly & Eggs. He's a fan of the Duck BLT and Pesto Chicken Caprese as well. I think the Korean Short Rib Bahn Mi is just ok. Love their tater tots! :D People who work here are super nice. read more

This place had been on my list to check out for awhile. What a treat. I will say summer is the time to check this place out as they only have 2 table tops inside and a counter for dining in. I enjoy a great al fresco meal in summer as much as yet next person. And to be on this beautiful downtown Winnetka tree lined street is just wonderful while eating some of their tacos. Talk about fresh....from the guacamole to freshly made chips! (Addicting!) but most of all the chicken & shrimp tacos were so good. In addition, my husband tried the Al Pastor and he said it was amazing. They've got plenty to offer at this restaurant from sandwiches, salads, tacos & more. Everything that came out of the restaurant looked delish. And it was a perfect fit as I was looking for a little Mexican for lunch. Stacked and Folded is a gem of a little hole in the wall spot for great Mexican food in Winnetka. It's a tad pricier than your standard quick counter service Mexican chain, but worth a try to get away from the norm. The restaurant itself is extremely small with limited dining room seating available, so be prepared to struggle to find a seat if they are busy. Luckily we caught them during a down time in the afternoon and had plenty of room to stretch out. Their modern decor and very neutral color palette almost stand a bit out of place in the old time Main Street of downtown, with really the only color coming from the bottles of Jarritos sugar cane soda by the counter. We placed our order and within a few short minutes, we had our meals. I had a Panko Crusted Avocado Taco and the Loaded Tots with Pork Belly. The taco was amazing. The crispiness of the panko and the creaminess of the warm avocado paired incredibly well together. All I could think of after eating it was, whether or not I could finish another one. I proceeded to try my tots which were disappointing after the amazing taco. A tough act to follow for sure, but these tots were average at best. The tots themselves were right out of a freezer bag with absolutely no seasoning that I could detect. The toppings were scarce, and aside from the pork belly, it was forgettable. The pork belly was about the only thing I ate off the tots as it was very nicely cooked. Next time I'm back, I'll take about three of the Panko Avocado tacos (maybe four) a lime Jarritos, and call it a day! read more

Good fillings and good service but the sandwich bread leaves a lot to be desired (stale Gonnella rolls). If you're going to be a great sandwich place, the bread should be as good as the rest of it. We've ordered from here several times. Banh Mi filling is good but overwhelmed by too much stale bread. Turkey and Brie: same. Buffalo Chicken: I started ordering it with a brioche bun, which was a special request but huge improvement. Tots and sweet potato fries all decent. The staff here is incredibly friendly and I enjoyed the overall ambiance. I ordered the korean short rib banh mi, the salmon taco, and ahi tuna poke. The banh mi had incredible flavor! The aioli sauce they used was delicious. The salmon taco and ahi tuna poke didn't have too much flavor like the banh mi did so I was very disappointed. I liked that there was small basket full of random sauces to choose from. Definitely love trying all the different hot sauces. The menu prices are incredibly high. 1 taco= $5 and banh mi = $11. I always get delivery from stacked and folded and it's expensive not because the food is, but because.... delivery. FOOD IS WORTH IT. Like I'm paying $6 above menu prices because of delivery and this is a go to place for me. Why? Because, they make the best damn chicken parm sandwich. Crap chicken Parmesan sandwiches may be a chicken finger with some kraft melted mozzarella and some pizza sauce. Stacked and Folded chicken parm is lightly breaded, topped with shredded basil, and thick cut slices of Mozzarella. IT IS SO GOOD. So good. This has become a food that I crave. The sweet potato fries, keep in mind I've never been a fan, were a five star! Trying to stick with some "healthier" options so should make for some interesting reviews. I asked for a recommendation and glad they were quick to provide an option. I went with it and can't remember their name but it was the ribeye sammie. The bread was fantastic, quality veggies but seemed a little skimpy on the meat and believe that effected the flavor a bit. 3.5 Based on the menu (numerous salivation-inducing sandwiches and tacos), I expected this place to be a home run for me. But the short rib banh mi was not good. The bread became soggy inside the foil wrapper, the meat rather tough, and the whole package lacked flavor. However, the sweet potato fries and tater tots earned an A and a B+, respectively. That was back in 2017, and I recently had occasion to try them again. This time, the chicken caprese sandwich was pretty tasty and traveled better than the banh mi had. I went here for a friend's birthday dinner and we all really enjoyed it. It has a fairly small but unique menu. Parking was pretty easy which isn't always common for downtown Evanston. I ordered the soup of the day which was potato leek and one fish taco. Not we're really good! Staff is young and very friendly. They have a great beer selection too. So it is really Stacked, Forked and Folded - i.e. sandwiches, salads and tacos. Order at the counter and if you are dining there they will bring it out to you. They some tables out on the street for the summer. I recently had dinner here some friends. I had the Pesto Chicken Caprese sandwich. It was tasty and certainly a well above average sandwich. It was a little goopy for me though. It was the basil pesto aoli that made it that way. I think that I would have prefered just regular pesto. The mozzarella on the sandwich was really nice and fresh. A friend had the short rib Bahn Mi and really enjoyed it. The people working here were very friendly and the food came to the table quite quickly. I don't have a lot of occasions to dine in Winnetka but while it's not good enough to bring me in for no reason, I would certainly come back if I am in the area and need to grab a bite. read more
