Nothing fancy or complicated, just authentic Mexican flavors, but kicked up a few notches in quality.

We loved the food, the friendly people, and the casual atmosphere, which feels like you're on a taco crawl in Chicago - without leaving the 'burbs. We had the pastor-marinated (al pastor) pork, chicken tinga, beef birria, and hongos (mushrooms) tacos and got to sample the asada steak - along with the elote (street corn) salad, guacamole, and a variety of salsas (wow!). The beef, chicken, mushrooms, pork, and steak filling in our tacos are completely different in taste, seasoning, and texture. The spice level is just right for us, with a nice kick, but without burning our taste buds. Our corn tortillas were freshly fried and warm, with just the right soft-crispy texture - they crunch, but don't fall apart, when you bite into the taco! And the portions are generous - more filling than tortilla, which I think is a nod to American expectations. The salsas are not just your average accompaniment, but are as unique and given the same attention as the tacos. Each of the three salsas we tried had differently prepared chiles as the base and ranged from a milder, creamy jalapeno salsa to a hotter red salsa with a secret ingredient. We heard there was a fourth salsa that is hotter than the three we tried. Like the salsas, the elote is not just an add-on, but a must-order dish for whenever you need a refreshing, cool, creamy, and sweet balancing bite between the savory and spicy bites of the tacos. Note to local businesses and families: They have a separate dining room that's perfect for small parties and team gatherings.

Good food but you only stay open till 7, seriously? No self respecting Mexican eatery closes so early. Clearly not authentic.

Outstanding. I had the carne asada burrito and shredded beef quesadilla. I liked the shredded beef a bit better.

Unfortunately they didn't support me. My son and I came here for lunch and we were really greeted as the bartender served as the host and a few other employees were doing stuff around the restaurant. We were seated and my son was hungry so I ordered his food right away which was Quesadillas con Queso. They came out quick but it would've been helpful to let me know the rice was a little spicy. If you need a high chair for someone at the table, you should probably let them know about the spice in the rice. Other than that, he ate the food. I asked for milk as well. I ordered the Carne Asada (yes a heavy my lunch order) but obvs I was hungry. It was very good and had some sort of marinade but couldn't figure out what it was. The rice and beans were bad as the rice didn't taste fresh and the beans were blah. Also I had to ask for more corn tortillas since I only got 3. The service was ok and I was never asked what I wanted to drink. My biggest beef was when other patrons (all Caucasian) walked into the restaurant, they were greeted immediately and made a hell of a lot more welcome than us. It was weird to hear how over accommodating that same person who was on his computer when we walked in, jumped off his seats for the other patrons walking in. The nicest person by far was a women who brought me more tortillas and actually engaged with my son. No need to come back here but cmon gente, get it together when fellow gente walk in.

Maybe just a bad night, but:…read more One poor woman taking live orders, phone orders, serving tables, and trying her best...but just not keeping up. One person in the kitchen. No water in the dispenser. Trash overflowing the receptacles. Tasteless guacamole and bland chips. ...and our "Crispy Cameron" tacos had two small shrimps and barely any other contents. We had not been to Taco Nano for a year and always loved it, but what a difference!!! If you don't have enough staff, shut down phone orders...or maybe don't open at all because everyone suffers. Greed, mismanagement, and bad reviews will be your demise.

Oh, you need more? Okay... The tacos are worth your time if you're close by. You walk in and there is a menu on the wall and you order at the counter. They're fresh and satisfying with a side of salsa that's the perfect partner to give you that flavor boost you might be missing. And let's not forget the real Coca-Cola in glass bottles--nothing like it to feel like you're living your best taco life. That said, expect to pay a pretty penny for your tacos. The portions aren't as generous as they could be, and the flavor didn't exactly pop but for now living off their laurels and minimal competition makes Taco Nano the tops for this neighborhood. As for the dining area? It's basic--no bells or whistles. You'll see no-frills booths and a few tables. It's not much, but hey, it's all about the tacos here, right?

I always look forward to the seasonal rotation of menu items, as I know the ingredients will be fresh and in season, and I love looking forward to new dishes. I absolutely adore Spirit Elephant and have loved making this my go-to spot in Winnetka. I have had Meet Up events, girls brunches and date nights here, and always enjoy the experience. I've honestly been here more times than I can count. My omnivore friends are always pleasantly surprised once they've been officially introduced to the magic of Spirit Elephant. I've loved watching all of the small changes over the years, and have appreciated that the quality of the food and handcrafted cocktails has never changed. I have raved of the patio in the past, but they've since done two major upgrades, and I love spending weekend afternoons with a group of friends during the warmer months on their patio even more. The staff is phenomenal, and I appreciate that I always know my server will have an excellent recommendation whenever I stop in (I mean, you truly cannot go wrong with anything that you order).

The tofu in the bao buns was so crispy and delicious that my carnivore friend said tasted just like pork belly. Having never had pork belly, I was happy that to me it tasted like tofu since I love tofu. The poke nachos were a bit spicy for me but flavorful and delicious. Again, my friend thought it really tasted like tuna. My friend wanted to split the steak which I thought wasn't their strongest dish because it tasted more processed and not like lovely tofu nor like meat. But for those who enjoy vegan steaks, it was quite flavorful and moist. The potatoes were so fluffy and crispy. But not my fav of their dishes. As always the manager, Jordan, comes by and makes us feel like VIPs, laughing and treating us like old friends. And the whole team works together smoothly. Being surrounded by plants with perfect warm lighting makes the ambiance just as wonderful as the food itself.
