My personal favorite is the crispy camarones (shrimp), the combination of all the ingredients create this happy harmonious taco. Truly my favorite taco ever. I also like the chicken taco salad. My friend has been mentioning this place for a while, so I finally decided to try it on a Saturday evening around 5:30. The first thing I noticed was the fun decor and an easy-to-read menu on the wall. Although Taco Nano is the kind of place where you order, sit down, and they bring the food out to you, I was impressed that there was ample seating, including booths. I ordered a Vegetariano Al Carbon taco, a side of rice, a side of beans without cheese, and guacamole and chips (all vegan). The chips and guac came out first, and we both enjoyed them. The portion size was ample, and my friend appreciated that we could order it mild so it didn't have a ton of onions. I also liked the rice and beans. The taco was dry (I should have put some guacamole in it), but it tasted good. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Best tacos. GOAT fish tacos. This is the pace. You can tell made with good and fresh ingredients. Probably order 1-2 times per week. While I understand and have read some of the more negative reviews it makes me sad. No person or place is perfect and these are all occasional one-offs so take that into account. Pablo in particular has been outstanding. We had a mistake Oman order and he made it right without any suggestion and personally stopped at our home. Who does that anymore!!! Had to check out another place in Northfield we heard good things about. It seems like all these are in strip malls, ironic for a pretty fancy suburb. Taco Nano has gotten lots of good reviews, and there's even awards for these on the walls. Lots of good choices for any preference, including margaritas. You can also get you drink on as well as eat on, and there's lots of choices for protein. A very casual place where orders are taken at a counter. It's then brought over. The prices seem kind of high for this kind of thing. High on the drinks especially. It's $10 for a Margarita. These come in pretty tiny cups, so not worth it for these. As for the tacos, there's a lot. We got some of the Vegetariano Al Carbon, the one without any meat. It's $4 each. These had carrots, crispy carrot strings, grilled portobello, red peppers, salpicon de serrano, and zucchini. Good flavor combination. These had texture and weren't all mushy like some vegetarian tacos can get. Good even though it's not authentic. It's more like a place for lunch than it is for anything fancy. Came on a recommendation from my coworker to try tacos. Being from NY, it's been rough trying to find decent mexican food with good flavor. The lady at the front was welcoming and helpful. The menu looked great with a good variety of options. The restaurant was well lit and welcoming. It had a nice ambiance with good spacing. We ordered the chicken taquitos, 6 tacos - pollo gringo, beef barbacoa, pork al pastor, carne asada, sea of cortez and the old el paso, as well as a Horchata. Chicken taquitos - was good. I wish the chicken was a little more moist and had a little more flavor but otherwise good with the 3 sauces they gave us. Out of the tacos, the pollo gringo, beef barbacoa, pork al pastor, and carne asada were a bit flavorless and dry in our opinion. They tasted okay but just seemed bland. Our favorite were the sea of cortez and the old el paso. They had a bit more flavor but was still mainly okay in our opinion. The horchata - was good. Wish it was a little less watery but had a nice cinnamon flavor. Overall, thought it was okay. Food was okay but nothing amazing. read more

I used to love their tacos until I almost swallowed a piece of rubber band that holds vegetable bundle. But that wasn't the only issue. I called to tell them about it and they asked for pictures. so I sent few pictures but I didn't hear from them. So I called back and they said the manager will call me back which never happened. I called few more times asking for a manager, and they told me to call certain day certain time to speak to the manager. The tacos we once enjoyed are now a sad shadow of their former selves. The tortillas were cold . The meat was dry and flavorless - I've had more exciting experiences eating cardboard. We stopped here on a whim after kayaking at Skokie Lagoons. My review is based on the fact that I'm vegetarian, and unfortunately, there aren't a lot of "flavorful" vegetarian options. There's 1 taco option, aside from a quesadilla and burrito. In the absence of mushrooms in my taco, it was simply some sauteed vegetables. No greens, no cilantro, no cheese, no salsa. How nice it would be if the staff at Taco Nano re-evaluated their vegetarian options to consider a flavorful black bean taco to give a protein option to vegetarians. Cilantro is so common in Mexico, so why not add that? FYI, 5/5 for service and atmosphere. Aside from the food, I wish Taco Nano would consider using reusable bowls for offering their salsa versus disposable single-use plastics. We hadn't gotten tacos in a long time so were excited to order tonight. - Birria taco was terrific! - Carne asada was terrific! - Pork carnitas taco was dry and bland except for the green salsa on top - Beef barbacoa had one chunk of meat on one end of the taco, onions in the middle and lettuce on the other end. This is my go-to Mexican place! I got the steak burrito. It has steak, lettuce, tomato, sour cream, rice, cheese, and beans. I get this every time I go here and it's consistently really good. They put a lot of filling in the burrito and usually cook the outside of the burrito so it gets a little crispy (they forgot this time). I love this place! read more

Fresh guacamole was the best we'd had in the midwest. The margarita is served in a way too tall plastic glass that might had tequila in it, too sweet and not worth my calories. Your food looked nothing like the pics on this Facebook page. I ordered your nachos with steak. Your chips are not fresh. Your cheese sauce is an imitation ball park style cheddar sauce. The steak was rewarmed more than once, as the texture profile was mush. Extremely salty would be an accurate description for the nachos. No sour cream drizzle, as in the picture. I ate 1/2, and tossed them. It was a sloppy mess in which the chips on top only had any toppings. The rest was dry stale chips. Your cashier was very friendly. Your place was clean. I do understand that your clientele enjoys your food, and you are probably successful overall. Also, maybe it was an off day for nachos, and I am probably use to more authentic tacos. This place used to be one of my favorite places to eat at but after a recent visit, I can't trust eating here again. One of my family members brought leftover food back from the restaurant (a taco, chips, and guac). After a couple hours, they were complaining about feeling sick and having stomach pains. They ended up going to the ER after feeling chills and throwing up multiple times. The doctor said it was stomach virus from the last thing they ate, which were the food coming from this restaurant. Taco Nano sent out promotional emails offering free guacamole with your meal on National guac day. They also posted this on Instagram and clearly stated that you only needed to show a member of the staff the email or their Instagram post in order to take advantage of this promotion. When we showed up at the restaurant they informed us that the boss decided not to offer free guac. We also witnessed them yelling at a customer on the phone who was upset that they were not honoring this promotion. This is false advertising and while Taco Nano used to be one of the best taco places nearby there are now many other better alternatives. I would recommend checking out La Taquiza instead. read more

Taco Nano is a funky little Mexican restaurant located in Northfield in an upscale neighborhood. The interior space is small w/limited seating. There are tables along the side wall for 2 to 4 people & 1 large table for community seating (cafeteria style). There are also a bunch of picnic benches across the street which some people choose to eat at and it was a beautiful day to be outside. When I went the restaurant was packed so I squeezed in between some people in the last seat and chowed down. (This boy isn't shy and it was time to eat). The menu board is a chalk board w/the items displayed. I ordered 3 tacos. * Adobo Skirt Steak $4 - Skirt steak, cilantro, avocado, onions & lime - this was just ok, the meat was a little dry * Pork al Pastor $3 - crispy pork, onion, cilantro & a piece of pineapple - this was my favorite - the crispiness of the pork and a slight sweetness of the pineapple was very good * Pollo Gringo - $3.25 - chicken breast, poblano red peppers, grilled onions, quest fresco & guajillo sauce - this was also very tasty, but the chicken was a bit dry. The blend of the poblano peppers and grilled onions really added to the overall taco flavor As I was eating an elderly couple sat down next to me and asked the owner what the taco of the week is. Say What? I didn't catch that when I was perusing the menu board. Evidently they have a special every week (duh I guess that's why they call it the special of the week) The special was skate fish (which I have seen at Assi & H-Mart, but have never eaten). They also had a couple of hot sauces that were pretty good Overall I felt that their food was pretty good, but at $3-$4/taco a bit more then many of the other Mexican restaurants. It's definitely worth your time to check it out. If I'm ever in the area again I would like to go back and try their special of the week whatever it may be and their crunchy Camarones shrimp tacos (thanks Joy) which I also missed on the small side menu board. read more

Unfortunately, things don't seem to be going well here. After they've expanded the wait times for food are way tooo long for what the food is. Online orders placed with a "as soon as can be ready" are not ready when THEY SAY THEY WILL BE. And I still waited :30 after I arrived. It's unfortunate, as this place used to be great. Edit: got home (a 10 minute drive) and my order wasn't right. They offered to refund JUST THE ITEM that was wrong. So my wife could eat, but I couldn't? I opted to have them replace it and went back, I'm now :50 minutes into picking up an order 10minutes from my house...there was also some weird stuff going on with my replacement as it was handed to the person to give to me and then it went back into the back for a minute. Everything about this place has gone downhill over the past few years. Our last two takeout orders were missing food, and the manager, Pablo, absolutely refuses to replace food or refund money for incomplete orders. It's unbelievable. Poor management has also translated to poor food quality (super greasy ground beef, underwhelming presentation and shrinking portions), and given how sloppy the place is run I cringe when I think about the kitchen.
