I was provided lunch as part of our sponsor package at a recent charity event. The Little Louie's food truck offered different wraps, burgers, hotdogs, fries, etc. I had a very tasty chicken avocado wrap, and fries with cheese (Merck's!). My food was prepared fresh, hot and was very good. The delicious Merck's cheese sauce definitely makes everything so good!

Northbrook institution with good reason. Very dependable each and every time, from the very longstanding employees who are ever so friendly to the quality of the food. I love how community minded they are from the many photos, articles, and memorabilia covering the walls to their participation in community events and celebrations. They have changed over the years from increasing menu options, far too many, overwhelming, though it does mean more vegetarian options than your traditional hot dog stand, to now only seating on one side of the restaurant (?). Obviously their prices have gone up too, pricey but not crazy. Years ago their fries were different and delicious, several years ago they changed it up and while they are still good they're not like I remember them. I love that they have pretzel buns, yum!

Food is good and customer service is amazing. This restaurant is so good and the ambiance is nice to.

Nasty "parts is parts" chicken fingers. Stick with hot dogs here. Fries were undercooked and not as good as I remember.

It was almost 11pm (they're open until 2am on Fridays.) and there were at least a dozen other vehicles in their drive-in stalls. Ordered their specialties, a Superdawg and Whoopskidawg with Superfries, Chocolate Super Malt and Black Kows. Service was fast and friendly at 11pm on a Friday. We were eating in our rental car in apx 10 min. It was cool to eat outside on a warm July night in a classic, 1950s style drive-in. The food was excellent, flavorful and fresh. I normally avoid krinkle cut fries because they are usually frozen and mushy or mealy. Not Superfries. These fresh cut fries were practically fried mashed potatoes. We loved them! The drinks were perfect. The Black Kows is basically a root beer float and served with an extra root beer "sidecar." Our only complaints were about errors with the garnishes. We specifically said we wanted all the garnishes on both dawgs and they only gave us the standard grilled onions on the Whoopskidawg and forgot the sport peppers on the Superdawg. Otherwise we loved everything. We might go back next week (before we fly home) because I really want to try their Whoopercheesie Burger and maybe a Supersundae. (Menu Descriptions/Prices) Superdawg Not a wiener - not a frankfurter - not a red hot - but our exclusive... Superdawg™. On a poppy seed bun, we tenderly place the loveliest, juiciest creation of pure beef hot dog (no pork, no veal, no cereal, no filler), formally dressed with all the trimmings, escorted by our often imitated, but never equaled, Superfries™. Served with all the trimmings - golden mustard, tangy piccalilli, kosher dill pickle, chopped Spanish onions and a memorable hot pepper. $9.30 Whoopskidawg Our char-broiled version of a Romanian, Hungarian, Polish sausage; basted in our special sauce, and served on a Whoopskiroll™, with grilled onion and a pickle. $12.05 Superfries For extra pleasure an extra measure of Superfries™. $4.35 or $6.95 - Try 'em with cheese! Supermalts and Supershakes A full pint of smooth creamy refreshment so thick we put straws in them only to prove that you can't draw them through. (We will gladly thin them down, if you prefer them that way.) Flavors: double rich chocolate, mellow vanilla, real-fruit strawberry or pineapple. $5.80 - Regular $7.10 - Large Black Kows A beverage--a dessert--a snack. Chunks of ice cream floating in a foamy sea of root beer. You can drink it. You can eat it. You can do both at once. $6.20

Here are the things that take RRH to the top of my list: 1. Convenient drive through service. You don't need to exit your vehicle to eat there. 2. They will char your dog on the flat top grill they use for the it grilled onions for the Maxwell St. polish. 3. 4 mini supreme tamales instead of one large tamale. Same amount by weight, a lot easier to eat while on the road! 4. And the thing that really sells it for me-the hand cut fries are cooked in BEEF TALLOW! The next two are either positives or negatives, depending on your POV. I've never used these options, but: 5. They accept credit cards, albeit for a 3% surcharge 6. Ketchup is available BY REQUEST ONLY! I have a feeling you will get shamed if you have the palate of an eight year old and ask for it on you dog, and there are squirt bottles available if you eat on sit and wish to dip your fries, although they are so good plain, "red mustard" as one social media presenter calls ketchup, is not needed.

So, don't expect that. This hotdog is juicy, smokey, and charred with a bold beef flavor. Loaded with mustard, sports peppers, relish, and onions. On a nice plush bun. I personally get it without onions. And, it's heavenly! Chocolate Cone-If you're in the mood for a creamy, dreamy, and delicious cone. Then, make sure to get this! The chocolate is nutty and bold. I love this tasty treat. It brings me so much joy! I every now and then will treat myself to this family sized cone. And, I happily finish every last lick of this. We ended getting two hamburger specials that came with fries and a drink. The price is pretty average considering the area that we are in. Other than that, the decor of the place is your typical burger joint; wide, bright and you can smell the cooking goodness nearby. Also, the customer service was pleasant. Always served with a smile and willing to help. Anywho--back to the food. We received our order in no time and decided to dine in. You get your own fountain drink and our hamburgers were filled with the works as requested; ketchup, mustard, pickles, grille onions, lettuce and tomatoes. The burger itself was really good. The meat that is utilized for the burger comes from the butcher shop next door which is Hofherr Meat Co. and they are DELCIOUS in their own right. The burger was perfectly cooked and juicy, the condiments were good and the grilled onions were so yummy and succulent, really adding a nice flavor to the burger. Overall, I really enjoyed being here and eating the food. I definitely want to come back but maybe next time, I will try eating the hot dogs instead of the burgers. If you are in the area, definitely give this place a try but it's not something that I would really go out of my way for. Still delicious though and definitely hits those hot dog and burger hankerings if you have 'em. Yum, yum for sure!

The photos from the 1960s, showing the owners then and now, give the place a deep sense of tradition and pride in building something from the ground up. The memorabilia throughout the restaurant is fantastic, and there is plenty of space if you are coming in with a large group. The food lives up to the reputation. The Chicago dog is fantastic and fully authentic, loaded with the right peppers, onion, and pickle. The only minor bump was that we ordered to dine in, but the order came out in to-go packaging. Wrapped up like that, the steam got to the bun and softened it a bit more than if it had been served open on a tray, which took a little away from the texture. Even with that, it was still a very good dog. For the side, ordering the fries well-done on the self-service kiosk is a huge plus. They came out crisp and tasty, though in the fast-casual fry hierarchy, Culver's still holds the crown. Overall, it is a great spot with rich local heritage, generous seating, and solid staple items.
