We were in the area doing other fun things and looked up Hot Dogs! The place was very busy , clean, and friendly staff! They had Homer ice cream which I may get at another visit ! There were more than one way to get a creation but malts are a fave . Didn't take a picture of our sandwiches because decided to just eat in the car and go. My sandwich was epic if you like salami . It was a grilled salami sandwich on an onion roll with grilled onions and mustard. My daughter had a polish sausage sandwich . Too many things to try! See you next time

Today on the menu...2 Chicago Style hot dogs with fries and a root beer. How shocking. Stopped here, thanks to the Vienna Beef hot dog locator. I've been to the UDawgU location on Touhy Ave. and the quality of both are exceptional to me. I love the charm of this location, from the exterior cottage feel to its second floor seating area which was closed at this time. Darn!!! The walls was lined with professional and neighborhood sports memorabilia on the walls and I think my first S. Rosen signage. ME WANT ONE!!! (Plus, their is a BBQ equipment and meat market next door, I will have to come back.) I was greeted by two order takers. My order was taken quickly and to take a seat and my food will be coming out soon. Took a seat, filled my drink, snapped a couple more pics and my dogs was there. I do love additions to an already perfect hot dog, love a light sprinkle of sauerkraut. Don't knock it, until you try it. I knew this was a 5 star dog when I start making involuntary mmm's and yeah's after each bite of a pure beef Vienna Beef snap dog with a handful of fries shoved in my mouth. The ingredients all played well together and the chew of a great casing dog was worth it. Nothing overwhelmed the onions, peppers and tomatoes. And the fries was salty, fluffy and fried correctly. Don't knock frozen fries if they're deep fried correctly right. One of the things that really put this place over the top was the guy who walked over to my table and asked me "Was everything ok? If not let me know." IMHO The mark of a great dog is wanting to order a third dog to go and shoving it in your face once the car door is closed. 5.0/5.0

With all the amazing reviews, I think my expectations were maybe too high. On the positive side, this place is spotlessly clean and the staff is super kind and friendly. Order at the counter and they'll bring your food out to your table. They have a pretty diverse menu that also includes salads and Homer's ice cream. Food-wise, I got a hot dog and sweet potato fries. The hotdog was fine. The bun was kind of soggy, though. And I found the sweet potato fries to be over-cooked, so probably wouldn't do those again. Getting two dill pickle spears on my hotdog was a treat, though. I would definitely try it again, and maybe just order differently.

Super disgusting stuff on the ground that he spilled on me, it was the staff.

This review is when I am still in the restaurant. my food has not come out yet. somebody spilled stuff on me. it was a staff member. another staff member was drinking Coke on the job and then gave the Coke to a customer. The customer said that that is your Coke and he changed it.

Standard hot dogs, burgers and fries joint. They do have quite a lot of options here to choose from. Walked in here on a Friday evening and no one was in there but there were plenty of staff to help. Ordered 4 Chicago style dogs, pizza puff, cheese fries and cheese curds. Everything was made to order. The pizza puff was nostalgic of my high school days. The hot dogs were decent, I'm not a huge fan of the huge snap on the casing making it hard to bite into. $4.50 for a Chicago dog.

This meal cost $20.62 and was worth every penny. Fantastic food.

Wow. First of all, they bring the food to your table. Surprising for a fast food place. 2 dogs perfectly made Chicago-style. Cheddar Fries were awesome. They fill a cup full of fries, and add cheese as they're filling fries. And I'm assuming is MERKT'S cheddar cheese sauce!! Or similar to it. Very high quality. Hard to find places that serve Merkt's. Lastly ordered a chocolate shake. Because calorie intake was not high enough with just the food. Shake was a little too thin... but still 5 stars. Great attitude from the employees as well. They greet everyone and make small talk.

Walk over, order a cheeseburger, fries, cheese sauce and a drink. $20. Whatever. The Green River drink was great. Thoroughly enjoyed that. Get back to the office and get my food out. Burger looks OK. Kinda sloppy but it's OK. Huge sack of fries. Cheese cup. Pop the lid off the cheese and take a finger try. Wtf is this? It's grainy, it has the look and texture of hummus. Put the lid back on and tossed it back in the bag. They must have given me a cup of cheese sauce that fell behind the counter 5 years ago or something by mistake. Ask my coworkers who are from here and they all come to life about how "this is Merkts cheese and that's how it's supposed to be, it's the best thing ever" and how they "could just eat it with a spoon, blah blah". It's not cheese sauce. It's terrible. It belongs in the trash. The fries were also cooked in old oil way too long. It was all 1 inch bits fried crunchy until the potato inside evaporated. Three stars for the mediocre burger and green river. Don't trust skinny people and coworkers opinions on food.

The bar was sold out and we jumped on the only table left. Now the fun started: * Their Chili con Carne is this cauldron of meat and beans done thoroughly right. We loved it * Their shrimp cocktail was equally wonderful * My Cheeseburger was out of this world. Neither was the case, and it was instead an above-average fast food experience. Now... do you remember when the fries at McD's were actually worth raving about? Yeah... it was likely when they were cooked in beef tallow, as opposed to oil with beef flavor added (really!). I don't buy into the belief that one must go after seed oils with torch and pitchforks, but I do love a darn good fry, and Steak 'n Shake delivered! They were hot, fresh, and well seasoned. The burger itself was respectable as far as fast food goes. It was cooked fresh and assembled with care. The meat was well seasoned, and the veggies gave a good balance in terms of freshness. While the smashed patties didn't have the lacy crisp edges a next-level smashburger does, it's fast food, so I'm not going to hold it against them (I may be tough, but I am reasonable!). It did take a hot minute for the food to come out, but I was not in a hurry, and I want to recognize that everything appeared to be cooked fresh to order. It was very quiet at the time, so please be aware that during a busy time, YMMV. Finally, the service was perfectly polite and friendly. Final verdict: Steak 'n Shake has by 'good' by definition burgers. Where they shine, though, is the fries, and not for a lack of seed oils, but for being hot, fresh, and flavorful! Thus, we are left with a place that is not a destination, but one to visit when I am in the area craving a superb fast-food fry!

It was so classless and honestly he should be ashamed of himself. My family met there at 1:00pm, it was Sunday and they were busy. The waitress was stressed, understandably, but that doesn't excuse the rudeness that transpired. It took her 30 minutes to take our order; there's no reason for that. The kitchen was backed up, I get it, but when my mom confronted the owner at 2:05, and said we had been there for an hour, he called her a liar and yelled at her. THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR THAT!!! Instead of that he could have just said that he would check on it- he literally could have said or acted any other way than the way he did! We got our food shortly after and the waitress seemed to be a little nicer at this point. The owner came over to our table as we were finishing up and I told him that he had no right to speak to my mom that way and his behavior was totally inappropriate; and it was! He kind of chuckled and gave me the "thumbs up" as he walked away. I have never quite experienced anything like this before. It's one thing to have poor service, but to have an owner behave the way he did is something else completely. We will never go back there again! Obviously if I could give this 0 stars, I would!
