Run over to this little spot on Bank Lane, a side street in the center of town, for a perfectly presented Chicago Style hot dog. Delicious! The seeded bun, the soft boiled dog, impeccably chosen toppings-- superb! I really loved the water canister-- a simply beautiful "thing" that delighted me! I saw a Not-So-Sloppy Joe coming out and I'm coming back for that! It's a friendly clean place. The owner said they've been around since 1963! Coming from a town in Ohio that has a famous place called The Hot Dog Shop, well, I'm not easy to please in this department-- but today I got WOWED! I'll be back for the homemade soups (the mom makes these I'm told) and today it is Wedding Soup and Tomato Soup. Lots of others good choices on the menu. read more

Wow! I wasn't sure if I would like this place, but they blew my expectations right out the door! The atmosphere is nice, and the staff is very friendly. Now for the food: The bratwurst that I ordered was absolutely phenomenal!!! The bun was steamed just right, the bratwurst was flavorful and delicious, and the toppings were fresh and delicious! The sauerkraut was some of the best I have ever had, the tomatoes were firm, and the pickles were as fresh and crispy as I have ever had as a topping for a bratwurst. I am also impressed how they plated my bratwurst--they took great care how it was presented and made sure to put the exact right amount of toppings. I will definitely be back! This is a place for kids, hot dogs and soups. My kids went here a lot in HS. I went once and got a hot dog. It is an LF staple for kids.

Tried this place out via delivery and was not disappointed! Their pork/beef hot dog mix was delicious and did not arrive soggy despite having condiments and wet veggies on them. The buns were nice and fluffy and even better were the affordable prices! They must be at least 30% below competitors and better. I would have liked more than 2 pickle chips for the price charged for a side of pickles but given the overall price I can accept it. I'll definitely be trying this spot again to see what else their menu has to offer. read more

Fun, buzzy fast casual dog and fry spot in downtown LF. This is a long time favorite with a big fan base for a good reason.

Not the same and I'm afraid not as good. This was my second experience with the post-Pasquesi ownership aside from decades of coming here prior to that. The buns were cold and it seemed they use a different steaming method in this side steamer box. (It didn't work sufficiently) They also retired the wearing of gloves when handling the food which is hard to believe. No dirty hands on MY buns, yo. The ordering process was awkward and we had to give our hot dog order twice. Meh. read more

The hotdogs are Vienna now- which is so different than it used to be. Pizza and subs seem to be the highlight on the menu. There is even a name change to "Left Bank Pizza". I have seen some comments by disappointed people who expected something bigger. This is a hot dog joint, guys. It's not the Deer Path Inn. Get over it. But, here's the thing ... if you grew up in the Lake Forest area, you grew up with the Pasquesi family. Back in the 60s and 70s, Bob Senior was the guy with the hot dog truck, at the beach, parked next to the Good Humor truck. Then they opened the Left Bank and Bob's son, "T" became more involved. T eventually turned it over to his son, Lane. And now, Lane has a toddler running around the back room. My favorite moment in the past 50 years, was last summer, when I went in the back room and found all 4 generations together. Left Bank is a traditional, local, family business - a business that has enriched our lives and made the experience of eating on the run, fun. The food is good. The prices are reasonable. I believe it's a family that runs the place, well at least it seems like it is. They are nice and friendly. I've always said, you have to acquire the taste for the hot dogs at Left Bank, but once you're in, you're hooked. over 25 years ago, when Piccadilly Circus went out of business across the street I started going to Left Bank, and now I wake up some days craving their hot dogs. I had written a fairly negative review earlier, but I'd like to revise it for a few reasons. The main reason that I was mad before was that Lane, the old owner, had sold it to someone else, and I felt that the new management had taken away the nostalgia and messed up the whole experience. New flooring, no paintings on walls, no more rock music... I wasn't happy. However, the new management really made the place their own, with alternative music from today, delicious lemonades and other fresh drinks, new menu items (the Fritos pie is outstanding), and just an overall great vibe. My recent experiences have really brought me back to my old love for Left Bank. While it isn't the same Left Bank that my grandpa has been going to for the past fifty or so years, it is a rejuvenated, present-day version that I find myself in all the time. read more
