Stopped here on a whim during travel. We really enjoyed the friendly atmosphere and the hotdogs were great!

Asked for Two char dogs asked for to be almost black they were not. We were not in a hurry. Fries were very mushy.

Found this place while Dashing. It's a quaint store front shop. It was loaded with some wrestling memorabilia but a lot more supporting local youth team. I ordered the two hot dog special that comes with fries and a drink, I was able to get one of my favorite drinks, red crème soda. Before I settled down my food was ready quickly. The hot dog was a natural casing dog which I loved. The hot dog had a good snap. It had all the trimmings of a Chicago Style hot dog and all of the trimmings was fresh. I love the fact that they wrap the dogs to stay warmer. The fries on the other hand were underwhelming. They were hot and crispy but lacked a good potato flavor. Overall, the only drawbacks were the fries and cost of the two hot dog special. I think it was one of the most expensive hot dog combos I had this year. read more

We took a drive out to visit the mother in law the weekend before Christmas and realized we were all starving a little around 1 pm. My husband worked in the place where Josh's is located back in the 80's... long before it became Josh's. We walked in and found it to be clean (I used the bathroom, which is how I judge how clean the place is... the bathroom was clean and smelled nice)... we ordered a couple dogs, and some fries. Everything was really good. The hubs and teens were happy with their lunch. Service was quick and done with a smile! While we were eating, an employee walked over to our table and said he realized he over-charged us and gave my husband change. We never would have known and appreciated his gesture. Next time we are out that way, we will have to grab some dogs! read more

I wrote a fabulous review about Josh's hot dogs years ago. Their food is still good. Their communication is awful and this is on the owner's shoulders. Their menu gives the choices of condiments that can be put on the sandwiches. For our sandwiches, we said mustard, onions, tomato, relish, and also pickles and peppers. No big deal. It is what we always order. But, this time, there was a charge for the pickles and peppers. Whaaat? Never had that before and no reference to a charge anywhere. Called the restaurant and basically was told by the worker that is what it is. Asked to speak to Josh...not around. I did get his email so I asked about this through an email. No response. Few weeks later, resent the email. No response. Called the restaurant a couple of times to speak to Josh..."not around" was always the answer and no idea when he will be in. Even called earlier today and was told the manager would call me back soon. Nothing. So, sadly, we have taken Josh's hot dogs off our list since the owner seems not to care about his customers. There are plenty of hot dog places around whom we will gladly give our business to. So sad that he couldn't answer this basic question. read more

Huge fan of Josh's in Northbrook. I've tried a couple things from their menu from the chicken gyro, spicy gyro, hotdog, the spicy polish and their chopped cheese, yes they have a chopped cheese here. What once I thought I could only get from New York, I now am able to get here and it honestly is me favorite thing on the menu. On top of that, being a huge Wrestling Fan, I love the pictures with all superstars the owner (I'm assuming) has met, a wrestling belt and a couple of wrestling figures. Is one of my go to spots for a quick eat in Northbrook but if you go on a weekday during lunch hours, expect it to be a bit busy! 5 all day!!!! read more

Gyro was decent, fries were god awful. Nothing worse than limp fries. The workers are jerks and make you feel very unwelcome. Almost like they're doing you a favor for paying money to eat their food... I ordered a gyro dinner and the cashier gave me attitude until I corrected myself and said "gyro plate" and gave me a jerk face. Once a friendly hot dog shop. Josh s in Northbrook is a great spot for burgers and Hotdogs. My kids and I love this place. It s not a fancy spot but has great food and very friendly people working here . Also they have really good ribs and great prices . read more

If rating the hot dog meat by itself, five stars. Skin on, pops when you bite it, perfect. Unfortunately the hot dog as a sandwich is a complete fail here. Bun was hard and crusty, stale tasting. Not steamed, but instead just off a shelf. Ruined the enitre hot dog. Fries. As fries by themselves, were good. But are not thbrkind you expect at a hot dog place. Instead like McDonald's style. So, not really good match with hot dog. I grew in the area and happened to be back in town after twenty years. I remember this place for my entire childhood under the founder and original owner. This iteration under a new name is not even close. Although it's more expensive, I recommend Little Louie's in same town. Like here, that place too has changed ownership. But it retains all the good things it had under the original version. read more

Stopped in for the first time on a recommendation from a friend. Had what they call a flat grill diner burger. Best damn burger I've had in a long time. Nice touch with the grilled onions! So what would I want for dinner when I ended up staying overnight in Chicago unexpectedly courtesy flight cancelation at O'Hare ? "Combo with sweet peppers, dipped" is my favorite Chicago food from my younger days. The sweet peppers here also have a little heat so beware. The bread is toasted which is unusual and it doesn't matter once the sandwich is dipped. read more

We just worked with Josh to cater our superbowl party and he could not have been more helpful! I had an idea to serve ribs for KC and phillies for the Eagles, so he found the closest possible menu items and combined it into what we called the "split fan special!" To top it off, delivery was reasonably priced and the delivery driver brought the food directly to the table. We were so happy with the results and will be order catering from Josh again going forward. read more

I was craving a Chicago style hot dog and this place really hit the spot. My boyfriend ordered the 8'' spicy polish with grilled onions. We also got fries and mozzarella sticks to share. Both hot dogs were delicious and still warm by the time we drove home to eat. The mozzarella sticks, which came with marinara on the side, were also still warm and crispy. We were even able to do a cheese pull. The fries were perfect and freshly made. The staff was very friendly. The guy packing my meal repeated my order to make sure it was correct. My fries were packed right before he handed me my meal, which was very thoughtful. Fresh and crispy fries are ALWAYS more enjoyable. All the items on the menu were very reasonably priced. read more

Had a somewhat disappointing experience at Josh's hot dogs. I called in my order ten minutes before for two Chicago dogs before I departed to Los Angeles once again -- Gotta have my final Chicagoan grub to send me off. Came in to defray the cost. Waited. And waited. The cashier forgot to give me my food, so I was under the impression it was yet to be made. After killing about five-six minutes, I finally asked the manager the whereabouts to my food. It was already made! The two dogs were cold by the time I ate them. Also, the added Brown ginger ale is an additional $2.50. Insane! That's a huge surcharge. Disappointing. read more

Had such a taste for an Italian Beef Sandwich today, so I decided to support my local neighborhood joint. What a mistake, the beef was reheated and dumped onto a piece of French bread. The bread was very tough and the so called Sweet Peppers were cold and very spicy. I have had better beef sandwiches here before. The French fries were cold as well. But to top it off the soda gun needs a big cleaning. Even water tasted foul. read more

A small, unassuming restaurant inside a strip mall. From looking at the restaurant you might just think this is another standard fast food joint with unusually high prices. Nothing about the restaurant, decor, or location suggests that this place serves above average food, with locally sourced ingredients, homemade recipes, and delicious flavor combinations. First thing to address is the price -- it's really the same price as full sit-in restaurants but once you take a bite of their food you'll definitely notice the quality difference in their ingredients. The portion sizes are also very generous as well, so you're definitely getting your moneys worth. Where the food here really shines is in the textures. The fries that are supposed to be crispy are very crispy. The burger that is supposed to have a hearty bite in the patty delivers exactly as promised. This matches with the flavors that are bold and simple. There's no need to rewrite the menu or create wild creations -- just execute well with superior ingredients and the result is a very satisfying meal. Overall, worth a visit if you want well executed burgers, fries, gyros, and other favorites. It's been 10 years since my last review of this local dog joint so an update is needed. My wife loves the burgers and fries here so I have joined her for lunch a few times, I would not go here by myself since I love Portillios just a few minutes away. I have had a Maxwell Street Polish that was very good but that's where the fun stops for me. The hot dog was average at best due to my bun not being steamed. The grilled salami was very slight on the salami quantity, it was mostly bread. Every time I've been here the fries have been hot and delicious but for me if I want a great hot dog I'm going elsewhere. read more

Here's what you need to know: very nice neighbor grill that executes the grill and fryer very well. Clean tasting well cooked and consistently good food. It's been around a decade and survived the pandemic which is a testament to enjoyable, well priced food. bacon-Merkts cheddar burger and hand breaded fries were delicious. I visited Josh's after many years since I moved away from the neighborhood and really enjoyed my meal. The staff is super friendly (kudos to Anthony and Christian) and food was served hot and fresh. Food is well priced too. Food came out 4 minutes after ordering so great speed. Fries are housemade and delish! Drinks were also crisp and super clean tasting. Enjoyable experience for sure. Wow. A surprisingly great burger! It was meaty, like 100% real beef, no fillers, no seasoning, just fresh meat. It wasn't too thin and wasn't too thick, just somewhere in between.
