First time coming here. I've passed by for over 2.5 years and finally decided to grab dinner. I actually like this place - the menu is simple. The space and seating is large enough. I have no complaints. I ordered the beef tallow 10 piece wing which is automatically dry rub as seasoning - my fave! I upgraded to add in a fry and beverage. The wings and mild seasoning were great. The fries were hearty and not greasy at all. I would've asked for a more crisp fry but that's it. My only "complaint" would be to give two sauces for a 10 piece wing. read more

I have to come to Fry the Coop more often. I really enjoy their chicken sandwiches. They are made to order, well seasoned and perfectly cooked. You can order different levels of spiciness. If you don't like spicy chicken, order the 1st level. It's not spicy at all. I order level 2. I've tried level 3 and it was too spicy for me. I find level 2 to be perfect, has the kick I enjoy, but not overly so and blow out my taste buds. We went when they had their $5 hot chicken sandwiches in honor of National Hot Chicken day. Not surprisingly, it was very busy. They still put out good food and EXCELLENT service. Everyone was so nice and they all handled the flow of people very well. I was so impressed. Listen... my husband really tested our marriage with this one He decided to go to Fry the Coop on whatever national chicken $5 special day they had last week... which CLEARLY the entire population also knew about. Man sat in the drive-thru for 2.5 HOURS. I wish I was exaggerating. At some point he had already gotten his shake and drink... and then just... continued waiting another 45 minutes for the food like it was a full-time job. Now here's the crazy part, after ALL that... the chicken was still a 10/5 for me Like??? How is it THAT good even after that experience?? I can only imagine how amazing this place is on a regular, non-chaotic, why-did-you-do-this-to-yourself type of day. Because if this was a 5/5 THROUGH the drive-thru madness... I'm already sold. This place is such a mess and so inconsistent. I went recently and if I hadn't checked before leaving, they would have sent me home with a large coleslaw instead of large pickles. But of course I didn't taste the actual food until I got home, which is when I found out that it was a higher heat level than I ordered. Both me and my significant other remarked upon this. We always order medium--that's been the heat level for years--and they gave us one at least a level up. I couldn't eat it and it gave me a stomach ache. Lastly, they almost never have mac and cheese. I came between 4-5 pm and thought surely they'd have it since it was fairly early on a weekday and would give my toddler another option for what to eat, but they were out. If they're constantly out, wouldn't that suggest maybe they could make a little more? Worst of all I can't say I won't return because it may be the only one that has a drive-through, and since my daughter's often with me I need to pick and choose how often I get her out of her car seat since she can be difficult about it sometimes. So loved this place when It opened, but I hate to say it. It's no longer that place. Quality has gone down and so has the lobby and the menu. Been here 6 times in the past 18 months, this was the worst overall. Counter girl was great btw. First of all, out of nuggets, then down to 4 only heat flavors. Why is that? Menu on wall looks seriously reduced too. I got a hot chicken sandwich and fries, chicken was barely hot, not enough sauce, and chicken was dry and small. Fries were dry and overcooked, not like usual. Daughters mild tenders (because no nuggets) were a bit better, more juicy but still dry but looked spicy but we're just over breaded And ok. Her fries were undercooked. Also, TV in lobby was on but showing Internet connection issues, so lobby was quiet. Weirdly quiet.. I want this to be my favorite hot chicken place, and it used to be but today it was not even close. I am honestly a bit sad. Clearly standards for cooking and general restaurant needs are just not being addressed anymore. It's like they need a restaurant manager. Came back to order from here after many years due to its inconsistency and poor service. Not to my surprise I had a terrible experience with my take out today. Food looks great and well seasoned but it has no taste. I don't get it. Chicken is dryer than the desert and had spots of pink in one of the sandwich (I know they double fry so it could've been just the chicken and not undercooked). The breading on the chicken is rock hard and dry, chicken on the inside dry, coleslaw has no flavor, pickles look deprived of hydration. The only thing this has going is the coop sauce which I barely had enough of on my sandwich. I'm so underwhelmed especially because I chose to come here instead of other hot chicken places. I called the store to explain my issue, but THEY NEVER ANSWER. It just hangs up after 20 rings. Whatever is going on here with fast cook times, it must be convenient but the food is terrible. I have been to this restaurant a few times, once for dine-in and a couple of times for take-out. I have had good experience here. The food and service were good. The menu had a good variety and the pricing was reasonable. I have had their Insanity and Nashville hot spice levels chicken (sandwich and tenders). The fried chicken was meaty and juicy. The outer texture was good as well. The brioche bun for the sandwich was soft but also nicely toasted. The spice levels were as described. If you like it really spicy, then the Insanity and Nashville hot are perfect for you. The cole slaw was creamy and the fries were nice. This fry the coop location is right off of Milwaukee and had a drive thru that you do have to go quite a ways to get through but the food does come out quickly. I've dined in number times, the only issue is that the table are often left pretty dirty esp if you come in mid day. Just a fair warning to make sure you wipe it down before you sit and eat. Ive been on a chicken sandwich kick lately and Fry the Coop has been checking those boxes for me. I always get there Nashville sandwich but just mild because boy does the best kick in 10x for each level we go up. The coleslaw does help tame the heat but as sensitive as I am, it's still super flavorful mild. They have mac and cheese that has a pepper sprinkled on top so it has a nice Cajun kick, but when in need of a side, their fries are the way to go. It was about 30 minutes until closing on a Saturday night, but it wasn't very busy. She could have easily offered me some from the napkin holder next to her register, but oddly she did not. I only noticed it after another customer moved. She also apologized for not offering my drink cup while I waited for my order. I ordered seasoned fries, which were okay. I didn't care for the twinge of sweetness in the seasoning, but this is from a guy who generally eats fries with just a little salt added.The sandwich was medium spicy with honey butter added. I appreciated being able to customize the spice level, the descriptions of the spice levels, whether I wanted the honey butter on the sandwich or side etc. I haven't seen a chicken shack give as many choices. After biting into my freshly made sandwich, I thought it was really good and better than the popular chicken shack that's closed on Sundays. If you can provide service like them, you'd develop a loyal fan base quickly. The attentive, pleasant service makes a huge difference. The service here wasn't unpleasant, but it wasn't pleasant enough for the top rating. I'll go back, though, so my wife can try it and to try a different menu item. I went here for lunch on Saturday. Pretty empty. The menu is pretty basic - maybe 10 items. I went with the Nashville hot chicken sandwich with mild. I wish I would have gotten hotter. Fries were a bit cold. Portion size was good. I actually went to downtown Nashville a day later and had Nashville hot chicken two days in a row. I had a good comparison. I want to come back here and try a hotter temperature. It's hard to beat some of the more famous places in Nashville like Hatties but being so far away in Chicago, this place is still good. You can select levels of heat - from country (no heat) to Insanity. We also added some spiced fries and drinks. The chicken has a nicely seasoned crisp crust. My Nashville chicken had pickles and coleslaw in the sandwich. It was thick, cooked perfectly throughout, with a satisfying crunchy crust. It was good but messy. The fries were a bit overdone. The restaurant has a retro vibe, from the kitchen implements and license plates on the wall, to the neon beer logos, to the comfy booth seating. Our food was ready in about 10 minutes. The restaurant had plenty of seating, a large parking lot, and is down the road from the Palwaukee airport. This is a bit far for me, but I'd fry the coop for some chicken tenders. My family and I went around 5pm on a Saturday. The cashier was helpful with answering questions about the menu. It's large inside, and there was ample seating. We were told by friends beforehand that the chicken is spicy, so we ordered a few sandwiches per our comfort level, and we ordered a la carte tenders in the spiciest levels to try together. We also ordered cheese fries. It is a little on the pricier side - each sandwich was about $11 and the a la carte tenders were $3.99 each. The sandwiches don't come with fries/a side or a drink and must be ordered separately. The food was out to us pretty quick, but there were also not a lot of patrons at the restaurant because it was only 5pm. I wish it was more clear that it's a spicy seasoning rather than a sauce. Regardless, the chicken was actually very good. The tenders are way better than Raising Cane's. The sandwich was delicious and and the size of the chicken on it was massive. I think the sandwich is better than the Popeyes chicken sandwich. I only wish the cheese was melted down. The cheese slices weren't melted so they ended up falling off the sandwich and took a lot of the seasoning with it. The medium level was not spicy enough! If you regularly eat spicy foods, I would say get the crazy or insanity. The cheese fries were also very good. Between our whole group, we tried every level between mild and insanity and we all agreed insanity is tolerable and crazy is probably the best tasting. I will definitely be going back! read more
