They're back after being closed for a decade. Brand new digs and a new owner. Actually the cooks are back from previous owner. They keep the place spotless, was a little shocked that they were doing a deep clean three hours before they close, but that probably helps them getting out of there on time. Perhaps they do another cleaning after they serve breakfast? They don't make their own beef, but Vienna makes a good beef also. My first time back I went with their chili cheese dog. The fresh cut fries were piping, hot and tasty. Perhaps they took note of some of the others who complained. I was bummed they don't have root beer and the Coke seemed to be weak on the syrup. I haven't had a Mountain Dew for decades, but that hit the spot. Surprised to see that they are actually offering breakfast and are open 6 AM and serving breakfast until 10:30 AM every day. Food was pretty good. Milkshake was only filled like halfway up the cup. Honestly, my biggest gripe was the use of AI for all the photos inside and outside of the establishment. Legitimately almost didn't buy anything once I noticed the images on the menu were all AI but after I ordered I noticed the AI images on the slideshow above the counter and outside the establishment. Super weird not to just use your own photos given how simple it is to do so and that it's blatant false advertisement. Ethically off. Definitely won't be back. read more

Ate here on 7/11/26. Ordered Italian Beef and wife ordered Chopped Brisket. Paid on the kiosk and waited for our orders. After a few minutes the red headed young man said they were out of brisket. We substituted a second Italian Beef. Had to remind the young man that the Italian Beef costs $1.00 less and we were due a refund. When our order arrived the sandwiches were overflowing with tasty beef and the fries were plentiful and delicious. Scooter's has been around for as long as I can remember. It's a great taste of Chicago way up on the North Shore. I almost always get a corndog and a serving of fries. I don't go there too often, usually only if I happen to be home. I don't want to get tired of it. It's too good for that. Definitely a cute little shop that sells a good selection of hot dogs, burgers, and gyros. From what I've seen, there isn't too much around North Chicago, but I wanted to visit somewhere with good hot dogs. Searched the area, and Scooters popped up. I got the #1, which is a Chicago-style hot dog, fries, and a drink. The Chicago-dog was pretty standard: pickle on top, small peppers, onions, and mustard. The bun though definitely made the hot dog top notch. It was a poppy seed bun that was so soft and tasty. The fries were crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and reminded me of Five Guy Fries. As for the drink, I got a Cream Soda and it was also delicious! A great solid meal for around $6. I recommend this place for anyone in the area looking for good hot dogs. It means something specific, not just yellow stuff. Nacho cheese sauce is not cheddar cheese. So when you find your hot dog bathed in radioactive yellow cheese-like slime... it's a little disappointing. The hot dogs themselves are just ballpark Frank's or the like, nothing special. They do have a wide variety of weird specialties that seem like they might be good, but as I was in the mood for a hot dog, I was left wanting. The burger my fiance got was a from frozen patty that resembled a Dairy Queen patty. Oh, and the grilled onions? SKIP THEM! They are the slimiest and oiliest slugs of an onion I've ever encountered. They literally slide off your food, like they were trying to escape from you meal to save you from their spoiling taste. The chilli was from a can. Enough said about that. Sometimes our trips up to Milwaukee lead us in other suburban directions. For Memorial Day weekend, we decided to take the scenic route through some of the suburbs. Absolutely shocked after my experience today.... I have been an occasional customer of Scooters for the last few years. I purchased a gyro this afternoon and when I got home, I opened the wrapper there was a lighter inside the gyro. I returned to Scooters to try and solve problem and got a replacement gyro, but the two men working in the prep station must have thought it was a funny prank to pull because they couldn't stop smiling the entire time.
