Absolutely shocked after my experience today.... I have been an occasional customer of Scooters for the last few years. I purchased a gyro this afternoon and when I got home, I opened the wrapper there was a lighter inside the gyro. I returned to Scooters to try and solve problem and got a replacement gyro, but the two men working in the prep station must have thought it was a funny prank to pull because they couldn't stop smiling the entire time. Did not want to make a scene in restaurant, so I called the store to ensure I wouldn't be charged for having to return their gyro (and someone else's lighter) - no refund on purchase, but cashier did say my "next purchase was on him" as if I would go back. read more

Awful hot dog. Bland and tasteless even with condiments; not that I could taste them over the bun which was dry and too large for the size of the dog. Fries were somehow both over and under cooked. Dining area was dirty despite not having much business. Also tried the gyro, which was considerably better and the food was all reasonably priced. So I have been a frequent customer for two years and I was In the other day, (friday 9/23) and no one was in the place. First off, the owner with glasses or the manager talked to me as if I was lower to him with the upmost disrespect and then managed to screw up a simple order. We ordered two meals, one being burger with fries, which the fries were never given and the fish sandwhich, which they forgot to give the drink. How dumb do you have to be? You are honestly killing your business with how poorly you treat your customers. Stop acting like you are something that your not, you're losing customers by how poorly you handle simple orders. I had to take the time out of my day to write this because of how bad of an experience I had and I have given you guys tons of business. Get with it or soon enough you'll be like every other small business and fall off the grid. Seriously the guy with the glasses needs to go. You're a pathetic waste of space. The pros are that this place is VERY clean and neat, appeared to have been somewhat newly redone, freshly painted, etc. when I was first there recently. Another pro is that there is a pretty big variety of combo meals for a hot dog stand. I went the Italian beef route, and wasn't disappointed by the flavor, but the sandwich presentation left a bit to be desired. I like a bit of juice, but if you're gonna put that much juice on it, invest in a crusty roll that will hold up to it. The softer bun my sandwich was served on was instantly mushy, too mushy to eat the sandwich as a sandwich, and I instead had to use a fork. Any Chicago-area sandwich shop worth its salt that serves Italian beef ought to be giving the option of wet, dry, or dipped, not just assuming you want it dipped. It tasted good, but, yeah, a bit wet for my taste, to the point where it literally could not be picked up. I also always look forward to giardiniera on an Italian beef, but the scoop I got was mostly just jalapenos. Nice kick, but would have liked some of the carrots and cauliflower, too. Counter guy seemed slightly surly, but could have been my imagination. Prices seemed on par for what you get, and the natural-cut fries were good, but could have used a bit more on the fry side. I'd go here again if I were in the area and wanted a quick bite, but probably wouldn't make a special trip or crave it. read more

I frequent Scooters on lunch from work (by the way, the map here is inaccurate- it's on the NE corner of rt.176 and rt.43), and have never been disappointed. The staff is quick, efficient, and friendly, and the food is cooked to order (or at least heated). The Scooterdog/burger is tasty, with cheese, bacon, and grilled onions. The fries are fantastic, and I'm not even a fan of the fresh-cut kind. The gyros are, well, gyros, which have to be butchered pretty severely to turn out bad. In other words, they're great. The only wait time is if there's a line ahead of you (minus the standard 5min deep-fry or grill), so if you're going on lunch, call ahead if you're in a rush to get out. I highly recommend this hot dog stop if you're passing by, and if you have a few bucks in cash, feel free to drive a block north on rt.43 and turn into the drive-up taco stand housed in an old caboose. I've seen a cook or two from Scooter's work there, and they as well have yet to disappoint. read more

Went in for a polish and gyros - hold the bread - at lunchtime. Rude fellow behind counter criticized my "strange diet" and said I should have been more careful in my younger years, failing to consider that there might be medical reasons to cut out the carbohydrates. He took my order but then served someone else before giving me my drink. The food was ultimately delivered and completely unremarkable. The Smell of fries when you walk into Scooters is amazing. As far as fast food goes I would call Scooters creme of the crop. The food is amazing especially when it comes to their burgers, hot dogs, and especially gyros, however their small restaurant makes them a nostalgic place to eat. Scooters offers great American classics such as cheeseburgers that are stacked tall, as well as delicious Vienna Beef hot dogs. However I believe that the best item on the Scooters menu is the gyro. The well-seasoned, slightly crisped, greasy lamb meat is piled high atop a tender pita. The sandwich also comer with a smooth sour creme and cucumber sauce. I am of the opinion fries should be had with any meal at Scooters, as their French fries seem to have the perfect balance of soft and crispy. In all I would call everything I have tried at this eatery very good to great, and call the gyro world class. The fact that Scooters has stayed at the same small whole location is a great thing in my mind because it has become my favorite place to eat on I-94. The smallish restaurant always has had a euphoric aroma that wafted from wall to wall. Although the restaurant has had consistently good food, the one thing that I am upset with Scooters with is that they no longer have the Gallica arcade game anymore. I can always remember coming to Scooters and almost being pleasantly surprised every time I played the arcade game located behind the register in the corner of the restaurant. The restaurant also has red and yellow benches and bar to eat at, which is a image burned in my head as I have not found a restaurant with those team colors. So in all I would classify Scooters as a four star fast food eatery that will be satisfying especially considering the low prices. Awesome place! I was on a 42-mile romp on the North Branch Trail with a friend, and he wanted to stop and grab something at this, which was our turnaround point. I had brought my food, so I didn't eat, but his hotdog platter looked and smelled great, and they had a large selection of other stuff. I'm giving it 5* because we were eating outside and, not forecast and out of nowhere came a torrential storm. We put up the umbrella but it was no match for the rain and wind. The owner/manager came out and invited us to bring our bikes inside, which we were only too grateful to do. So we ended up staying an hour; the storm kept on and on. The place has a nice vibe and mix of families with kids dining in and a stream of takeout. There are two outdoor seating areas, and inside there's a small side room that'd be great for a small group. The larger front room has a TV on and the kitchen is open. They have very few desserts; I'd wanted a root beer float, but no ice cream. I'd definitely go back to see them; that kind of empathy is rare! Kudos!! read more

I sat on a booth there was a calendar in the way I moved it he came right away and moved it back and told me not to touch it !!! What the heck ? Are you supposed to eat on top of a calendar ?
