My son had their dog only with 3 pickle spears. The kicker here is the charges .50 for each extra pickle. C'mon y'all thats weak. At least they had a fountain machine for sodas. I remember it being better! There was plenty of meat which I liked tasted good! The pita was too soft . The fries are good crinkle fries . Take out or sit inside tables and booths on side walls. You order at the counter they give you a number to come to the counter to pick up your food and go sit and eat. You may refill your soda . Always a great, nostalgic place to stop for a quick bite to eat where you get exactly what you're expecting - piled high Chicago dog and crisp, giant battered onion rings. Hands down, this is the place you need to go to for the best Chicago style sandwiches. Italian beef, Italian sausage, combos, gyros, burgers, and dogs are best in class. Their fries, fried mushrooms and malts are fantastic. I was raised in the city (Chicago) and worked there most of my life and I would put this place up with the very best Chicago has to offer. The beef sandwich was delicious! I wasn't very hungry when I stopped here but it was so good I finished the whole thing. The prices were fair for what you get. The only thing I would say I disliked is the seating and atmosphere. Not a lot of seating, and what they do have is pretty uncomfortable. Also, all of the soda was flat. I can't believe I've never reviewed this place!   I've been coming here since 2002, and it never disappoints. Through the years, I've probably tried over 75% of the menu offerings.  Some of my favorites include (in no particular order) the:  Italian Beef, Gyro, Philly Cheesesteak, Samburger, Chicago Dog, Chili Dog, Chicken Sandwich, and the Combo.  Oh, and the shakes and malts!  I love their onion rings and fries too!  Today I had: a Samburger with cheese, fries, and a drink.  The total with tax was $9.35; which is a relative bargain for the quality and quantity of food you get Service is fast and friendly.  The restaurant is clean, with some nice nostalgia on the walls. Went there today to try and a new place for chilis cheese hot dogs (Portillo's was very rude and won't ever get my business) and I found it. Good chili, good dog and also a good Chicago style dog. This review is based on appearance. I have been coming to Sammies for years!! It is so beyond time to remodel! It is so old, dirty , falling apart. I remember coming here years ago when they put another bathroom in or remodeled it I can't remember which and it was done half assed. In all the years I've been coming here it's the only thing that they have ever done as far as improvements. Dining area was clean, comfortable and some complimentary newspapers to peruse if desired. We split a gyro platter and a chi dog with some breaded mushrooms. The food was OK. Not great or special but a solid offering in that category. The service was quick, take a number and come and get it when they call your number. The food is great, the prices are reasonable, the kitchen is efficient, and if you're there with any regularity during the peak lunch hours, Dominic (one of the owners) probably knows your name and is greeting you from behind the counter with a warm hello.
