Basic sub place in Lake Villa for those looking for cheap ass food. It unfortunately isn't that cheap however. Sammie's only has the cheap taste it seems. Mostly subs, but there's some other things to get. There's fries, gyros, hot dogs, and greasy slop like this. A lot like an independent version of Subway but not as good. In fact it's a pale imitation. The atmosphere is pretty depressing, and it's not exactly clean inside, explaining why so many customers get takeout. It's about $9 for a Veggie Sub, pretty high. Just has the basic vegetables. It's nothing special at all. This may be the healthiest thing on the menu to be honest. Has lots to get as far as sandwiches of course. This location is not up to par with the others, which is really annoying, because I live right across the street. The burgers are fine, but tonight I came in for a char dog and mozzarella sticks. The bun on the dog was completely stale...like rock hard. The mozzarella sticks weren't cooked all the way; they were luke warm, and the cheese wasn't even melted all the way. The marinara sauce they gave me with them was so thin and runny, you can't even call it tomato juice. I sent back my mozzarella sticks. The replacements were definitely hot and fully melted, but all I could taste was salt, and one of them didn't even have any cheese inside when I bit into it. This location also doesn't have the typical hot dog stand fries like the Round Lake Beach location does. I'll pass on this location moving forward, regardless of how close it is to me. read more

Ordered carry-out 6/17/24 from the Sammies in Lindenhurst. The order was a gyro salad (contained a two inch blond hair), a large onion ring (best thing about the order) and what was supposed to be a Philly cheese-steak. Apparently no one at Sammies Lindenhurst has ever seen a Philly cheese-steak before. Because it was a 5" gonnella roll with slices of roast beef topped with very greasy peppers and onions. Then slathered in some sort of processed cheese sauce like you'd find on ballpark nachos. This should NOT be on the menu period! The WORST example of a cheese-steak I've ever seen. I came here for lunch and really enjoyed he double cheese burger special I ordered. It came with the burgers fries and a drink. I sat down and they actually brought me my food at the table. Places usually call your order out. They put the lettuce and tomato beneath the meat and cheese. All the fat from the meat gave the vegetables a better taste making the burger taste way better. The meat was perfectly charred and juicy. Their fries were also tasty. Nothing special about them but they were still very good. This place is solid. Good burgers, gyros, hot dogs, and Italian beef. I think there are four Sammie's Restaurants, all located in the heart of Lake County. Somehow they are all related, but I believe different ownership (maybe brothers or cousins, I forget the story). The fries used at this location are crinkle cut. We were pleasantly surprised by the very friendly vibe and welcoming cashier at Sammy's. We were driving by on the way to a friends house and hungry so we stopped in for a quick bite. We ordered a super beef - $7.95 and split it - was just the right amount for two. They are not getting five stars because they did not ask if we wanted the beef dipped or offer any jus but that being said it was lean, tasty and the giardinera was really hot! The sautéed green peppers were nicely cooked so that they were tender and did not have that nasty raw green pepper taste that you find at many other places. One thing I would like to ask is that my hot dog, sausage, etc... be HOT, not room temperature. when I eat it. I ate in and I had a luke warm Italian Sausage. They were busy so I just ate it. I dined there. This isn't the first time for this. I want HOT food. The only Sausage sandwich I've gotten that isn't luke warm when served is the Polish, because it's Deep Fried. Very good experience here for an early lunch. Service staff was friendly and helpful with my order. Had the regular gyro, they offer an extra meat as well but the regular had very ample amounts. Meat was tender, seasoned and juicy but not overly greasy, just excellent. They layer the bottom of pita with the sauce which I prefer for its stays with every bite and not slopped on your upper lip. Plenty of onions and tomatoes as well that compliment the gyro. The French fries are large crinkle cut that are crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, again excellent. The meal came with a soft drink and all under $10 bucks, a real value considering the quantity and quality. I can't wait to go back to try other menu items. read more

I am writing my review as I sit here enjoying my number one with fries and a Pibb. This place never disappoints me and each time I come here, I love it even more. The food is fantastic. The burgers and dogs are excellent and I would kill for a few fries from Sammie's. The service is always very friendly and they now have punch cards! For every seven burgers you order, you get the eighth for free. It's great that I don't live all too far from here so not only will I come back because it's close but also because the food and service is a five star. If I could rate less than 1 star I would. The food is amazing but the customer service is awful. waited a half hour for food that was called in before for pickup. Cashier asked if another order was ours (was under the sale first name) and we said no multiple times. And still couldn't get our order. Finally after 30 mins we walked out with our food. Workers were rude to other customers waiting for their food in line. Would love to keep supporting local restaurants but it's hard when you do not feel respected going in to pick up food. read more

I love their gyros but was disappointed by their milkshakes. We got two gyros and my husbands didn't have any sauce on it. Since we got it to go we were pretty disappointed because we couldn't just ask for some. I ordered a strawberry milkshake and was extremely disappointed. I've always loved this place. Locally and privately owned, you're assured 1) the owner is on site and 2) they care. The food is always prepared to order and they use quality stuff. Everyone tries doing Italian Beef these days, but this has one of the best! Having said all of that, the prices seem to be increasing too much too often. They're now to the point where this place is out of my market. They really push "meals" now but their upcharge is over $2 for this (for adding the nearly highest margin items in the business). Food combinations that used to be had for around $20 are now a solid $25. Hey, stuff costs more every year - food, leases, employees. I get it. They can charge what the market will pay. But now instead of my "go to" place for a good meal, I'm finding myself saving it for "special occasions" (Yes, a hot dog stand is now a "premium" meal). Everything was hot and prepared well, so there were no complaints about the food.
