If you're looking for some good ole American food with a scrumptious shake, check out Sammie's! They're totally underrated. I love their shakes and they have a bunch of options. I've tried a pineapple coconut one and a raspberry one. Both were fantastic. I've also had a chicken gyro, hot dog, and their beef/sausage combo. Everything was delicious and I would definitely reorder. read more

Basic sub place in Lake Villa for those looking for cheap ass food. It unfortunately isn't that cheap however. Sammie's only has the cheap taste it seems. Mostly subs, but there's some other things to get. There's fries, gyros, hot dogs, and greasy slop like this. A lot like an independent version of Subway but not as good. In fact it's a pale imitation. The atmosphere is pretty depressing, and it's not exactly clean inside, explaining why so many customers get takeout. It's about $9 for a Veggie Sub, pretty high. Just has the basic vegetables. It's nothing special at all. This may be the healthiest thing on the menu to be honest. Has lots to get as far as sandwiches of course. It's just not that impressive to be honest. There could be improvement for quality. read more

Sammies - Chicago style hot dog and fries - Fast Food Near Me - Lake Villa, Illinois

This location is not up to par with the others, which is really annoying, because I live right across the street. The burgers are fine, but tonight I came in for a char dog and mozzarella sticks. The bun on the dog was completely stale...like rock hard. The mozzarella sticks weren't cooked all the way; they were luke warm, and the cheese wasn't even melted all the way. The marinara sauce they gave me with them was so thin and runny, you can't even call it tomato juice. I sent back my mozzarella sticks. The replacements were definitely hot and fully melted, but all I could taste was salt, and one of them didn't even have any cheese inside when I bit into it. This location also doesn't have the typical hot dog stand fries like the Round Lake Beach location does. I'll pass on this location moving forward, regardless of how close it is to me. read more

Ordered carry-out 6/17/24 from the Sammies in Lindenhurst. The order was a gyro salad (contained a two inch blond hair), a large onion ring (best thing about the order) and what was supposed to be a Philly cheese-steak. Apparently no one at Sammies Lindenhurst has ever seen a Philly cheese-steak before. Because it was a 5" gonnella roll with slices of roast beef topped with very greasy peppers and onions. Then slathered in some sort of processed cheese sauce like you'd find on ballpark nachos. This should NOT be on the menu period! The WORST example of a cheese-steak I've ever seen. Seriously, you just moved in not to long ago. Put a little more effort into your food. $25 and change for a shitty meal. Ooops, almost forgot they charged my 4% to use my Chase debit card. WTF! Should be called Rammies read more

I came here for lunch and really enjoyed he double cheese burger special I ordered. It came with the burgers fries and a drink. I sat down and they actually brought me my food at the table. Places usually call your order out. They put the lettuce and tomato beneath the meat and cheese. All the fat from the meat gave the vegetables a better taste making the burger taste way better. The meat was perfectly charred and juicy. Their fries were also tasty. Nothing special about them but they were still very good. I would definitely come back and order the burger all over again. read more

every order is perfect and super fast. I ve never had anything wrong with my orders ever! perfectly cooked with all the condiments. They make a good day better and bad day even better. Good food for any occasion. I love these guys! Always my go to! I'm ROB! So damn good! read more

Quick service! Great place to go on your lunch break! Delicious grilled chicken pitas! Can't go wrong with French fries! Fare prices!

Excellent Beef. Excellent dogs. Fries are the real deal. No food disappointment here. You can't go wrong. Downloaded app to order ahead. Disappointed to find out unable to do so for Lake Villa location, even though they promote it in the shop. read more

This place is solid. Good burgers, gyros, hot dogs, and Italian beef. I think there are four Sammie's Restaurants, all located in the heart of Lake County. Somehow they are all related, but I believe different ownership (maybe brothers or cousins, I forget the story). The fries used at this location are crinkle cut. I prefer thinner fries (which they use at the Round Lake Beach location). Overall, a clean, friendly environment with good food. read more

Sammies - Crinkle cut fries: good, but I prefer the thinner fries at Sammie's on Rollins Road. - Fast Food Near Me - Lake Villa, Illinois

The go to place for your hot dog/burger/gyro cravings! They have tons of options for all your casual dining/Togo desires. I've always had great service & great food with all of my visits. Great prices as well. I'd recommend the shakes if you stop in! read more

So are here tonight and the gyros have changed. It's sad when such a good gyro goes down hill. No meat. Pitas falling apart. Too much sauce. It used to be absolute perfection. Now it's sad. Another thing covid ruined. read more

Service ain't that bad. They are always quick to get foods on time. Food is about average most of time. It would be nice to have pictures posted to show customers what foods look like and to show what's in the foods of how it being cooked. The only downside I have is the fries are overcooked about 80% of time and ketchup/mustard are overtops. It needs to be dial it down a bit and need to cook less on fries to avoid being overcook read more

Sammies is always (can I use emojis in here? Lol) they are a great local spot in lake villa if you are looking for your Chicago fix! We got a combo sandwich, Italian beef with cheese, and 3 orders of fries. The crinkle cut are so good, and the meat always seems so fresh. Only thing I would have liked was a bit more cheese on the beef sandwich. Otherwise 10/10! read more

Great food and great service...I recommend ordering grilled onions on your burger. They are awesome!

Typical hole in the wall local joint on the inside and so delicious. They have the best crinkle cut fries I've ever had. Their coleslaw is also unfailingly good, and the employees are always friendly and efficient. All of their appetizer type food is yummy too...cheeeeeese cubes. Never had a bad meal in the half a decade we've been going here. read more

Has always been fast, consistent, and good food. Owner is a hard worker who makes and sells a great product. Best Gyro's in the area by far.

We were pleasantly surprised by the very friendly vibe and welcoming cashier at Sammy's. We were driving by on the way to a friends house and hungry so we stopped in for a quick bite. We ordered a super beef - $7.95 and split it - was just the right amount for two. They are not getting five stars because they did not ask if we wanted the beef dipped or offer any jus but that being said it was lean, tasty and the giardinera was really hot! The sautéed green peppers were nicely cooked so that they were tender and did not have that nasty raw green pepper taste that you find at many other places. The cashier, she might be an owner, was very friendly and moving fast and filling orders very quickly. If we pass by on this road again we will definitely stop in and try other items. read more

One thing I would like to ask is that my hot dog, sausage, etc... be HOT, not room temperature. when I eat it. I ate in and I had a luke warm Italian Sausage. They were busy so I just ate it. I dined there. This isn't the first time for this. I want HOT food. The only Sausage sandwich I've gotten that isn't luke warm when served is the Polish, because it's Deep Fried. I've gotten cold Chili, Hot Dogs, Italian Sausage was the culprit today and it has shrunk quite a bit too. PLEASE SERVE HOT FOOD IF SOMEONE IS EATING THERE! read more

Very good experience here for an early lunch. Service staff was friendly and helpful with my order. Had the regular gyro, they offer an extra meat as well but the regular had very ample amounts. Meat was tender, seasoned and juicy but not overly greasy, just excellent. They layer the bottom of pita with the sauce which I prefer for its stays with every bite and not slopped on your upper lip. Plenty of onions and tomatoes as well that compliment the gyro. The French fries are large crinkle cut that are crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, again excellent. The meal came with a soft drink and all under $10 bucks, a real value considering the quantity and quality. I can't wait to go back to try other menu items. read more

Worst worst worst! Zero stars for terrible food. Nice people but willing to overcharge for extremely subpar microwaved food. Boo hiss. This location gives Sammies a terrible reputation. I cannot believe that with that beautiful magical grill they would serve me a leftover rubber microwaved chicken breast. Super lame! I will never go again. Three chances is plenty. My bad. read more

If you are tired of all the chain burger places this is a great alternative. Hot dogs are as good as any in Chicagoland. Fries are good as well. Gyros are above average. Where they really stand out is their burgers which are flame grilled and great. read more

Best hamburger/hotdog joint around. Placed an order for pick-up and they said it would be ready in only 5 minutes. I arrived and 2 wonderful you men (Jeremy and Ryan) had my order ready to go. We had the gyro, Italian beef and Philly cheesesteak and an order of fries and all was delicious. I will definitely be back! read more

I am writing my review as I sit here enjoying my number one with fries and a Pibb. This place never disappoints me and each time I come here, I love it even more. The food is fantastic. The burgers and dogs are excellent and I would kill for a few fries from Sammie's. The service is always very friendly and they now have punch cards! For every seven burgers you order, you get the eighth for free. It's great that I don't live all too far from here so not only will I come back because it's close but also because the food and service is a five star. Always support local businesses - Sammie's is the place to go! read more

Great place for Chicago style hot dogs. Small clean eat in area. Friendly staff. Made to order fresh fries. Large menu

Love this place! Always have had great food and service here. Out of all the years I've been coming here, I've never had to wait a long time and have never had my order messed up, cold or any kind of negative thing. The Chicago style dogs are so good. That's my normal go to meal. The gyro is awesome too. Everything else I've tried has been great as well but I usually stick to the dogs and gyro because they are so good. I LOVE all types of French fries so their crinkle cut fries are delicious. Good prices, nice staff and great food. Check it out! read more

So disappointed in Sammies! When did you change your fries to the greasy mess in a bag I received? You used to have the best fries! And my Gyro was dry and tough. read more

The super beef was the largest beef sandwich I have ever seen. Wish I had discovered it sooner. Great Sandwich and highly recommend ordering with cheese. read more

Update: They gave me a gyro when I ordered the steak sandwich which is steak, grilled onions and peppers on a pita. Not gyro meat, tomatoes and raw white onion. If I could rate less than 1 star I would. The food is amazing but the customer service is awful. waited a half hour for food that was called in before for pickup. Cashier asked if another order was ours (was under the sale first name) and we said no multiple times. And still couldn't get our order. Finally after 30 mins we walked out with our food. Workers were rude to other customers waiting for their food in line. Would love to keep supporting local restaurants but it's hard when you do not feel respected going in to pick up food. read more

WHOA!!! The first reviewer is CRAZY!! (No offense!) As someone that grew up on the North Shore (Flukies, Wolfies, Superdawg, Poochies, Corner Hut, Mustards Last Stand, Michaels, Little Louies, etc.....), Sammies in Lake Villa stands up to ALL of them! Quality of their Vienna 8 to the pound natural casing with the famous "snap", the cleanliness, the employees......Sammies can certainly sit among them all. I will say, that after trying Grayslake, Round Lake Beach and Lake Villa locations, Lake Villa stands as number one. read more

Love the food, love the service! They're always so friendly and just a great local joint.

I love their gyros but was disappointed by their milkshakes. We got two gyros and my husbands didn't have any sauce on it. Since we got it to go we were pretty disappointed because we couldn't just ask for some. I ordered a strawberry milkshake and was extremely disappointed. It tasted like the ice cream was freezer burned and then they just added the fake syrup from the store. Even my 4 year old didn't want it. read more

Very greasy, although not the worst food I've had. The people up here think its good, and not to be a snob, but having lived up here after living in the city 38 years, this place wouldn't get a second look from me down there. Funny thing is, they got their start in Portage Park. What a shame. read more

I've always loved this place. Locally and privately owned, you're assured 1) the owner is on site and 2) they care. The food is always prepared to order and they use quality stuff. Everyone tries doing Italian Beef these days, but this has one of the best! Having said all of that, the prices seem to be increasing too much too often. They're now to the point where this place is out of my market. They really push "meals" now but their upcharge is over $2 for this (for adding the nearly highest margin items in the business). Food combinations that used to be had for around $20 are now a solid $25. Hey, stuff costs more every year - food, leases, employees. I get it. They can charge what the market will pay. But now instead of my "go to" place for a good meal, I'm finding myself saving it for "special occasions" (Yes, a hot dog stand is now a "premium" meal). The market for such a place has now passed me by. I wish nothing but success for them in the future. read more

Ordered some quick dinner from here and it was quite good. We had the Gyros, chili cheese dogs for the kids, and onion rings. Everything was hot and prepared well, so there were no complaints about the food. My wife was the one picking up the order, and unfortunately they had forgotten about the order, but they were gracious enough to provide us with a $5 discount on our next visit, which was very professional of them. We will definitely be returning here for future visits. read more

Today was the last time I will buy anything from the Lake Villa site. The last 3 orders have been a complete bust.. the last two times I've ordered anything, everything was burnt. Today, i got the cod fish dinner & they didnt't have anymore. Granted, they tried calling, but when i got there they tried to trade it for a fish sandwich with no refund/ cost difference.. ($9.99 vs $3.75). I noted this & they said they said they would add a fry & coleslaw to make it a dinner. The cost still didn't make due. Luckily, my accompanyment made them give back the difference when i was already done.. Then I got home. The fish sandwich they traded me out for tasted like some jerk warmed it up with a butane lighter.. A chemical crap-storm. I've had the fish sandwich before & it NEVER tasted that terrible.. Just DONE. Never going back. NOT for take out, delivery, or just for fun. Done son. DONE.. read more
