This is a great place for lunch or dinner. The food is, outstanding and their menu selection is unrivaled in the Northern suburbs. They now make these insane Italian Beef egg rolls! Anyhoo, if you're hungry and you want good food for not a ton of money, this is your place! read more

Good/ fast food from cooks but bad service from cashier . Was told to "hold just a moment" that was 10 minutes waiting to order just to walk in and there wasn't even a line (still on the phone on hold ). read more

They do not have consistent prices. Same exact meal was ordered 7 days apart but I have received two different prices. I've been a customer over 15 years. This is literally absurd. Ofc the food is great but the consistency in price isn't there. read more

I love all their good! They have great selection and the fresh quality it there every time.

Hands down the best place for Chicago style cuisine with a whole lot of local flavors spicing up the menu so you'll never ever get tired of coming here. We go through phases - maybe we get gyros for weeks, and then switch to Italian Beefs for a while! They are experts with the fryer, always crispy and perfect onion rings and tater tots. Any relative or bestie who travels to the Midwest to see us gets treated to Roost 59 for an authentic hometown diner experience, where fast food is transformed to fresh cooked. Come see for yourself why we keep coming back. read more

The food is so good and I can't stop eating it.it's a walk up and order at the counter. The service is great and the inside is tables and chairs read more

YUM! This place delicious shakes and cheese fries too. I enjoy my time each time I get food here, never disappointed. The menu is full of tonssss of items. I will be back to try out the chicken soon. Great service, super quick and efficient. Quick service typical inside, they have some old video games so that is fun to play while waiting. They have seating inside and outside. Overall great place for a quick meal. read more

The roost has definitely improved from reviews a while ago. Everything I've had thus far on the menu is fantastic (not to mention the endless variety). The service is always reasonable. Definitely recommend The Roost. read more

073124 - To go order for a beef sandwich, juice on the side. It was terrible. The juice ran right through me. Also train the big white kid at the register to do more than grunt. He has no people skills. Adios.. read more

Italian Beef Egg rolls are a rare treat. Staff have always been very friendly and supportive for menu choices.

Great food, large selection as well. Roost pork is killer. Very fast and nice staff as well

This is the new menu of the roost! They updated it with screens. Prices on this menu are higher than the old one. Food is still great. Comes in fast. read more

I ordered a veggie wrap, it was decent. I also ordered a street corn in a cup. For my taste it had too much mayonnaise. Other than that it wasn't too bad. read more

I liked it. Hot dogs, gyros, burgers, and fries were great. Small little joint, took my family here so we could try something new. Saw the 99 cent hot dogs on Sundays so that's what motivated us to come in. Hope the best for this business read more

Staff friendly and courteous. Ordered Italian beef on garlic bread with peppers and mozzarella. Garlic bread was burnt and not sure if it was the beef or the juice or both but was way too salty to eat. Cheese looked like it was melted in a micro wave. Fries underdone too. Huge disappointment. Came here because of the great reviews. Maybe it was a bad night, not sure but reluctant to try again. read more

Food was tasty and service was good. We came in with a large group and they were very patient. The pumpkin pie shake was also to die for

Would highly recommendd if you are looking for hot dogs, gyros and fries. We tried the chicken buffalo mac and cheese wrap which was delicious. A def would order it again read more

For some reason, Nutella shakes are really hard to come by, but this place has them, and they make them well. I will come in every few months to get one, but the last two times I've been here, they've been out of ingredients. That's not their fault; everyone is having supply chain issues right now. I get that. What is their fault, is that both times, I have ordered, paid, waited 5-10 minutes, and then get told they're out of _____, and then the only way they can refund your money is in cash, even if you paid with a card or Apple Pay. The first time I was asked if I wanted to substitute for a different shake, which I did not, but at least they asked. Today, I was just handed a chocolate shake, and had to taste it, in order to find out it was chocolate. I asked them multiple times if there was Nutella in it, and took several sips. They insisted there was Nutella, and I couldn't taste any. They finally told me they're out of vanilla ice cream, so instead of letting me know that and asking if I want chocolate (I do not), they just made it and now have to throw the milkshake out, because they chose to waste food, instead of asking me. So if I had ordered a strawberry shake, would they have just handed me a brown milkshake and expect me not to question it? read more

If ya blink you'll miss it, the Sunday special is what drew me in, till I saw there menu and almost fell over, wholly cow. I moved here from Wheeling about 14yrs ago, and this place has only gotten better with age, try there sweet potatoes fries with the dipping sauce OMG, 2 die 4. I have Never gotten anything bad there, it's always clean and I love the family atmosphere ya feel just walking in, I always feel welcome. Yeah it's The Bomb. My twin grandson's loved it. I'm glad they R close to where I live, I could walk there if the roads weren't so yucky, not crazy about walking on the gravel, but it is what it is, that's the suburbs for ya. They don't believe in sidewalks, I guess? But I can call ahead and drive there and back home in less then 5 min, can't beat that! If U don't try them at least once, it's your loss, honest! After looking at there Menu, you'll be in trouble trying to choose where to start, Good Luck. I'm still working on it, lol. read more

So my only real problem is that it is cash only Sunday when you have 4+ people with you in a group not everyone has that much cash on them

Get your swine ... at Roost 59. (To the tune of "Route 66"). Also get your beef, chicken, ice cream, apple rings, etc... I love this place. Their traditional hot-dog-stand-fare, (hot dogs, burgers, Italian beef, fries, etc) are all top tier. But what sets this place apart are the one-of-a-kind items such as: Roost Beef, Roost Pork, and apple rings. This review highlights the Roost Beef - a deliciously unique sandwich. I will now do my best to describe it. It is a loose meat sandwich with some sort of brown, syrupy-sweet mystery sauce. Incredible! The workers all bust their asses ... and do it with a smile. If you are in the area, stop in. You'll be glad you did. read more

Excellent food and service. My go to for Chicago style meals ever since we moved to lake county out of Chicago 6 years ago. Chicago style hot dogs and gyro sandwiches are my recommendations. read more

The people are friendly and the food is decent. They've updated their menu with TV screens, which looks nice. It's looking a little run down inside the one in Fox Lake in general. Maybe they will give it a makeover soon. I also want to clarify that, yes, they do take cards 6 out of 7 days a week. Sunday is cash only. Really doesn't make any sense to me. Rather, it is inconvenient if you forget and go in on Sunday without cash. I think a better solution is to have a minimum order dollar amount to pay by card. Just an opinion. read more

Great place with great food but on 5/6/23 we stopped in and every table was dirty. Not filthy but not cleaned after previous patrons. Since tables were neglected they didn't notice the food on the floor with the giant pile of ants. Ordered the Roost Beef and it was a big piece of bread with an embarrassingly small amount of meat. I tried messaging them directly but nowhere to do so. Another visit like this will be our last time. It just takes a small amount of effort that can kill a business or make it thrive. They can do better. read more

Great old fashioned chicken. Not good for you, but hey it's fried chicken! Very tasty.

Good food. Hot dogs could be a bit warmer, ate there. Tried lots of things. All good.

The food is always excellent. We go there at least two to three times per month. My favorite is the fried Catfish!!!!

Local neighborhood spot. The service is something to be desired at times. Food quality is decent and very consistent. If you want a quick mom and pop style family owned place that serves Chicago's favorites, pizza puff, hot dogs, polish sausages gyros ect, you can't go wrong with any of the roost locations. read more

Excellent food! Great service! I've never had a bad experience here and we have been going here for 7 years! One of the great things is the menu options! Well, this is our 2nd time here and it smells CLEAN here. Very good sign. We ordered the Italian Beef egg roll, ribeye sandwich, pizza puff and cheese fries. Average, traditional Americana (hot dogs, burgers, gyros, etc) however the sweet potato fries with the honey-cinnamon dipping sauce rocked my world. I'm a sucker for sweet things and this was fantastic. I've never been to a place that offered this kind of dipping sauce. I loved it. This is a family run restaurant with great deals especially on Sunday when they have dollar hotdogs, cash only. The employees are nice and always greet you like you're an old friend. The food was great, the staff was exceptionally friendly. There's a TON of fried food here so check your healthy-hipster-habits at the door (I had to). It really hit the spot for our family of 6 looking for comfort food. We introduced the kids to corn-fritters and they were gone in no time. My wife said the sweet potato fries were amazing. Took the Roost Pork to go for lunch the next day, which also was good. I winced a little bit at the total bill & nickel/dime of the toppings after we ordered them. 5 cents for this 7 cents for that. The cashier did a great job of suggesting stuff and so we kept saying yes, so there's no one to blame but us. Overal great experience. and would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a casual Chicago-style eatery. Watch the toppings. read more

This place is awesome!! It lives to the hype. The hotdogs are amazing, if you come on a Sunday, they are. 99 cents. On Sundays they only take cash. They also have a pretty easy yummy menu. The place is small, outdoor seating, clean. I did not notice the lavatory so I cannot comment there. Staff is super nice. Food is good and so are their prices. I highly recommend this place.
