I came to Lazy Dog for the first time, and I had a decent experience. It has a wide selection of food and nice ambiance in the dining area. However, I thought the main courses that I ordered were mediocre, but some items for appetizer and dessert stood out. For example, the hot honey feta dip and cinnamon donut holes were tasty and easy to share. I loved the flavor of the dip and toasted bread. In addition, the masala meatballs had a nice creamy and aromatic sauce, but the meatballs were tough and too firm. The texture was strange, and they also were not as hot as I would expect. For the main courses, the bison burger was good but the bottom bread was very soggy when the dish came out. We also tried the California burger. It was decent but also pretty bland. The meat had no flavor and was undercooked as well. The salad also had very little chicken compared to the amount of vegetables. We didn't like the dressing as well. Moreover, our server was friendly but did not come by often. We waited a fairly long time for someone to come to our table after we were seated. Our appetizer plates were also never taken from our table, only until after we had our dessert were they cleaned. My experience at Lazy Dog was average. After we attended an art opening in Winnetka that's supposed to end at 8:00 pm, we stopped by Lazy Dog in Glenview on our way home to have a casual dinner.  We picked Lazy Dog mainly because it closes at midnight, while other restaurants in the area close at 9:00 pm.  When we left Winnetka, I just made a reservation via OpenTable for 7:30 pm, and it worked smoothly. While ambiance and food were pretty good, service needed some improvement.  On a Thursday night (May 14), the restaurant was bustling.  It was surprisingly large and comfortable for a casual restaurant like a sports pub.  When we arrived, I politely told the guy behind the host stand that we had a reservation for 7:30 pm.  He had not said a word and with no smile, basically did not greet us.  From that moment on, he only looked at his laptop and didn't look up at us at all.  That was a rather bad first impression that I got of Lazy Dog.  Somehow his body language(?) communicated with the hostess and she led us into the dining room and let us pick either a table or a booth, and we went with a booth. She didn't say much either, but at least she was not unfriendly. As soon as we sat down, a middle-age female server immediately came to our booth to take drinks order.  I told her with a smile that we just sat down.  She came back when we were ready.  I ordered a Tropical Sparkling Refresher ($5.50), which did not look like the online picture at all.  It was supposed to have orange juice, POM® Wonderful 100% Pomegranate Juice, coconut-pineapple cream + mint, but the glass was filled with ice and it was extremely watered down.  I drink POM® all the time at home, I didn't taste any of that in the drink. Actually, it didn't taste like any juices to me.  I will never order that Tropical drink again.  Husband and Daughter both had beers. Since they have an extensive menu, basically I only looked at the highlighted items in peach-colored boxes.  We had an order of Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice ($16.50) as appetizers to share.  It was flavorful and quite delicious, and perfect for sharing.  The only complaint was the two end pieces out of 6 had the ends deep-fried as well, making the sushi rice hard and difficult to eat.  The picture on their website showed all 6 pieces as middle pieces, not with deep-fried ends.   While we were eating the appetizers, our server came and asked us if we wanted desserts.  We looked confused and then she said, "Oh, you didn't have your food yet!" and left.  This was not a big deal, but it was her attitude that made us feel a bit uncomfortable at times.  Before this happened, she took our food orders, our daughter ordered a Half-Pound Cheeseburger ($14.95), then I ordered a Cuban Sandwich ($17.95).  When the server asked me "Fries?" I could start to see an attitude on her face.  Then my husband (a seafood-lover) ordered a Wild-Caught Sea Bass ($35.95), her facial expression was happy again. Both our daughter and I had noticed that she only looked at my husband when she talked to our table (I sat next to my husband), not the 2 of us, which was very weird. As far as the food was concerned, my Cuban Sandwich had a generous portion and was very good, and the fries were crunchy and nicely seasoned.  Daughter liked her cheeseburger as well.  My husband said his sea bass was just Okay and my home-cooked ones were better.  I believe he's not lying since I cook very good Chilean sea bass. This casual meal with tips came up to $138. We went to their two patios to look before we left and did not see any dogs, we didn't expect there were dogs there at that time of the night though.  They did have a robust fire in the pit going, there was a family at one table, it must be nice for such a chilly evening. read more

First time here on a Friday night for dinner. We got lucky and there was a high top available for two. The place was abuzz with families, couples, and people at the bar. If first impressions matter, we didn't see a server until 10 min after sitting. When he finally arrived he was nice if not a bit frazzled and took our order of a burger and a chicken lettuce wrap and drinks. 25 minutes later our food FINALLY arrives. And our server checks in once and no one to bee seen for water refills. The food was good overall-- think chain quality. The chicken lettuce wraps were the better order-- the chicken mix lettuce veg mix and hoisin sauce were well proportioned and tasty. The burger was good sized but why so messy? Sauce all over the bun and a bit hard to eat. We paid extra for onion rings and the 6 we got in the order were good but really? Six med sized onion rings were gone by the 5th bite of burger. In a world of choices and lots of chains, we'll save this one as a backup. read more

Went to the Lazy Dog today for Brunch and had a great time! First time there and the food and service were great!! I had the Loco Moco Fried Rice. I put a picture of it before and after pouring the gravy over it. The dish was ridiculously good. We couldn't resist and ordered the banana pudding to put a cap on the lunch. Was in a total food coma and forgot to take a picture of it. The banana pudding didn't disappoint. They have a huge selection of beer and coco this place is definitely on the list to visit for dinner. There is also a large outdoor area that would be great for when it gets warmer. We came for a later dinner (8:30 PM) on a Wednesday so too early for the evening reverse style happy hour however the place still had quite s few patrons in it. We sat at the two top at the end of the bar/service area it is a slight quiet table however it is not the nicest view of the place. Our server was new to Lazy Dog it was her third shift. She was nice and very helpful with many questions although perhaps a tad too talkative. My choice was the seared ahí tuna salad which was very fresh and a great choice for those who like Japanese food AND who don't want to eat the 1000+ calories that seem to come with nearly every other dish on the menu. This dish is listed at 550 calories. They serve Huy Fong Sriracha packets when you ask for them. nice touch instead of wasting tons of sauce in a ramekin or plunking a gross looking bottle on the table. My better half had the Cuban sandwich with pickled cucumbers. Since I am 100% Cuban I can say that this is one of the first, if not the only Cuban sandwich made by non-Cubans that is an improvement on the original. The bread was made with the standard roasted pork, ham, Swiss cheese and pickle filling built on slices of thick cut bread and the outside was well buttered and the whole sandwich was grilled and pressed to perfection. The paying experience needs to be upgraded as we love the tableside paying however the unit gives no option to get a paper receipt. It needs to be added to the options for those of use who want it. we waited a long time for her to return and then it took forever and we still never got a paid receipt. Not cool. That however was the only negative of the night. We will definitely return as it quickly becoming our "go to" place since Northbrook has few (to none) nice, yet casual restaurants. read more

I had a bowl of chicken tortilla soup with the shrimp tacos for lunch. The chicken tortilla soup was mostly tortilla and not much soup. About half of my bowl was tortillas. It was disappointing when I got the soup. My shrimp tacos were very tasty and I enjoyed the black beans and rice. It was nice that they gave us free garlic parmesan chips as it was our first time dining. We also had a dessert to end our meal and had the apple-huckleberry pie with ice cream. This was a good size and was shareable. I was a bit disappointed in the huckleberry IPA as there wasn't much huckleberry flavor, however I did have a taste of the huckleberry lemonade and that was delicious. Great American Restaurant in an area of other restaurants nearby, went on a Saturday nite with the family and was seated right away. Place was packed but service staff was very friendly and helpful. We had Genevieve and was very nice. We started with small plates to share like Brussels sprouts, Cheddar bites and French onion pastries all were delicious. Then we had cocktails OG Old Fashioned and a Flight of Craft beers and a pitcher of Hibiscus margarita all taste great, Then for our mains we had Biiria noodles, very well seasoned and taste delicious, then Loco moco fried rice which tasted closely to a regularly Chinese BBQ fried rice, pot roast very tender and delicious and last we ordered the Bison burger with fries, all were delicious and portions were very good. I went there with a friend to get 100 gift cards for a wedding we both ordered the chicken tortilla soup. Both were ice cold not even Luke warm ice cold. The waitress never came back to even ask how things were. Then we ordered a Baileys and coffee and butter cake. The coffee had 2 inches of Grounds at the bottom. That was not what our last sip should have been. The butter cake wasnt even warm it was hard and dry like it had been sitting out for days and to make matters worse the waitress brought our bills with the gift cards included which we asked for separate so she ended up making 20 percent on the gift cards as well. I'm not here to rip this place or the staff. They likely have some staffing issues and are trying to stay afloat with Northbrook taxes and unrealistic customer expectations. Our food was adequately decent but took a bit longer to arrive than one might reasonably expect. To be clear, not hating on the Staff. It's been a couple years since I've been to a Lazy Dog restaurant but that's too bad because their food is pretty good. I have had recently the pot roast French dip thing and it was pretty good. I really like the lemon chicken that they have and also got one of their $15 specials that was delicious and a great value. Their bacon candy is one of my favorites on the menu. And they have strawberry lemonade, which isn't a standard at every restaurant, and that was pretty yummy too. Staff has been friendly when we've visited. They're doing the Lord's work by still having curbside delivery; many (most?) places seem to have abandoned this but it is so helpful in managing a toddler. I think we're going to try some of their frozen TV dinners soon, since my kiddo is going to be in a class that is going to make cooking dinner before bed for everyone difficult. Parking here is plentiful, as there's shopping centers and other restaurants around. There's dedicated parking for the curbside pickup. read more

I stopped in here for lunch with my family and another couple and their kids. We sat on the patio. First off, this is a DOG FRIENDLY patio. We had one puppy with us and there were four or five more on the patio. The staff were all great with them. The staff also had crayons and coloring pages for our kids which is always appreciated. We came on a Friday afternoon and had a very short weight. The lunch menu was fantastic. There are paired down versions of the full mention and I was able to get a half sandwich and salad. Standard -- but really quite nice -- suburban sports bar with a dog friendly (outdoors) twist. Impressively diverse menu -- from the expected (burgers, sandwiches) to the surprising (I had a kung pao tofu bowl that was surprisingly good). Broad range of beers on tap, interesting cocktail menu, and a surprisingly decent selection of wines by the glass (better than what I'd have expected at a "place like this."). Service was friendly, professional, and generally outstanding. Small hiccup in my order met with (unnecessarily profuse) apology and even more attention from the already attentive bartender. And, of course, televisions! Big space that has had a few concepts in and out of it through the years...hoping this one has some staying power. Will definitely be back. read more

Went on a Sunday afternoon around 2pm. Ordered two lunch items with my wife. We did 55 minutes. For our lunch. After 30 minutes the waitress stopped by to tell us that the fries were not ordered. After another 25 minutes, the food finally showed up. I watched the kitchen and saw my hamburger sitting underneath the heating lamp for the final 30 minutes. I was upset and voiced my concerns. The manager came by and never once apologized. My wife and I got up and left the restaurant. The manager and staff were horrible. Obviously we will never return. read more

So glad for Lazy Dog allowing me to be able to have a social life while in the puppy trenches! My only gripe is you have to sit out on the patio and I'm not sure it's heated. There was a family with a dog sitting by the fire so I had to sit elsewhere and my goodness it was cold! Definitely will be great for the spring/summer/fall time. My kids and I have been here a few times and we've always had good experience. I suggest making reservations as the place gets really busy. I like the interior and lay out of this big space which used to be a brewery/restaurant. On our visits, I've tried: FIRECRACKER SHRIMP, POT ROAST, FRIED CHICKEN DINNER, CUBAN SANDWICH, BAJA CALIFORNIA BURGER, SOUTHERN FRIED CHICKEN SALAD, FETTUCCINE ALFREDO, BRAISED BEEF BIRRIA NODDLES, THAI NOODLES, S'MORE BROWNIE SUNDAE, and BUTTER CAKE. I also like their beer sampler and drinks selection. Went to this place yesterday and the food was good and the service was excellent. However, there were ants everywhere. In an attempt to be nice, we called the manager today to make sure they were aware of the situation. He was a total jerk, said ' we got it covered' and hung up. Great! We sat on the patio on a 40 degree evening and were plenty warm with the heaters, the fireplace was a lovely spot for my daughter to work through the activities in the kids' menu. First time, brought our Sheepdog and our server Dana could not have been more friendly, welcoming and accommodating of him. She was fantastic! Terrible experience at Lazy Dog. We've never been to one of these before and we'll never be back. What looks like amazing down home cooking quickly changes to disgust. First off, be warned they only have so many low top tables. We were able to get seated pretty quickly but that didn't matter because it took a little bit for anyone to acknowledge us. Once we got our waitress, I started asking about coke vs Pepsi products and what they had. She then said she be right back and abruptly left us. Note, where we were seated you could see into the kitchen and prep area, so we saw her. She didn't come back for another 5 or so minutes, so I asked another waitress if they could send someone to our table. We had three kids with us and we were all ready to go, at least for a drink. Well when our waitress finally came back over we stayed we were also ready to order. I chose the $15 special of an entree and desert. I ordered the fried chicken, mash and the waitress said I needed to try the spinach and bacon, and if I didn't like it she'd bring me something else to try. I decided to go ahead. My mother ordered the southern fried chicken salad, my sister ordered the bacon burger. Now we had some modifications, no pink in burger, well done, which was stated numerous times. No egg on salad and corn on side (they were splitting, one wanted, one didn't). The kids got just Mac n cheese kids meals with fries, super simple. I also ordered a pizza dipper appetizer. Well, we never received our drinks, after waiting at least 20mins and me asking again another waitress to see if she could get ours. Get this, our food comes out BEFORE the drinks!!! No appetizer came out, nope, never got it! The food arrived and was wrong. Egg on salad and corn on top. The burger was big and pink inside with all the bloody juice all over the plate. No one ever came back over for the longest time. Then finally here's comes the waitress, who we tell that it didn't come out right. She says she'll be back. Finally, a manager comes over and apologizes and we let him know not only did things not come out right but we've waited and waited and waited. We got sat at just before 7. Not overly crowded at that time. And it was 8pm just getting our food and finally our drinks after that. Our poor kiddos were just thirsty, so were we! While the manager offered to recook things, it was so late and we were too hungry by that point. The burger couldn't be eaten with all the pink, though she tried to eat the edges, and the salad was somewhat consumed but it wasn't good the way it way. Also not the freshest leaves went into that salad. Now, for my "fried chicken".....there were no pictures but fried chicken felt safe. It said it came with two breasts, one with the $15 meal option. Let me tell you, it's basically a flattened piece of chicken or rather a patty that sits under a heater for hours and hours. It was a super thick breading, it had a weird taste and the chicken was so overcooked, like I said, just tasted like it had sat and sat. Not juicy, not a typically fried chicken breast as I was expecting and the chicken was just awful. I took two bites and I could eat anymore. It was that bad!!! Not to mention the spinach and bacon was basically an overcooked slop of just spinach with onions and maybe two little crumbs of bacon. And what's worse is it was sour tasting! I took that off my plate quickly, as it was inedible too. Remember how I mentioned it came with a dessert? Well, we ordered the banana pudding and a s'mores brownie sundae. You'd think these would be decent, nope, wrong again. Just abysmal that s'mores brownie sundae. The brownie was SO HARD and just plain terrible tasting, like when you forget you've left out a key ingredient. The banana pudding was a very odd texture, I wouldn't say it was good by any means. You also only get 3 nilla wafers on top and that's it. Was hoping for the soggy texture of those too but nope, on top. Oh and bananas, if you enjoy baby food kind, that's similar to what this is. No real bananas visible. Overall, terrible service, food was awful, and ambience was fine but the lack of low top tables could be a problem for others. There's nothing I'd want to even come back and try that's how lack luster that food was! Coke products are also served there after the front hostess guy and I had a whole conversation about how they served Pepsi. No idea how that even happened but definitely no Pepsi there. I had my first experience at the Lazy Dog this afternoon for lunch and it was a really terrific experience. My wife had been to the Buffalo Grove location with a friend and said that the vibe and food were really good and that we should try it some time. So today we were over near the Northbrook location so we decided to go there to grab some food. The environment is well laid out and very clean and the hostess had a great attitude while getting us seated. I was surprised at the depth of the menu with so many tasty sounding options in a variety of areas like Starters, Salads, Sandwiches, Burgers etc. I finally decided on the Cuban Sandwich that did not disappoint. Excellent combination of ingredients on the sandwich and the pork shoulder component was cooked to perfection. My wife had the Lettuce Wraps which she loved and I tried a small sample and could see why. With the large number of selections that they have you could go back many times and never have the same meal twice. The vibe inside the place is enjoyable and the noise level is easy to deal with. Our seats were along the glass wall that looked out over the enclosed patio with a nice fireplace where there were several tables that had their dogs with them which I thought was a very unique aspect of the Lazy Dog. One of the highlights of the day was our server Debbie who was very helpful answering our initial questions on menu selection and was very prompt in getting our order placed and our food out to us quickly. Best of all, she took a very vested interest in talking to us when we explained we were out celebrating the day we had met many years ago. She wanted to hear some of the details and showed she was a real people person. That type of attitude by members of the serving staff is what can separate an average dining experience from a totally enjoyable one like this one was. Came in with my boyfriend and we were in a bit of a rush, regardless of the short time we were there we were blown away by the amazing service that was provided. Mary Carmen was our server and she was very sweet, professional, and straight to the point. Food was excellent as well, we were welcomed with "First Timer Appetizers" which was a very nice touch.
