After we attended an art opening in Winnetka that's supposed to end at 8:00 pm, we stopped by Lazy Dog in Glenview on our way home to have a casual dinner.  We picked Lazy Dog mainly because it closes at midnight, while other restaurants in the area close at 9:00 pm.  When we left Winnetka, I just made a reservation via OpenTable for 7:30 pm, and it worked smoothly. While ambiance and food were pretty good, service needed some improvement.  On a Thursday night (May 14), the restaurant was bustling.  It was surprisingly large and comfortable for a casual restaurant like a sports pub.  When we arrived, I politely told the guy behind the host stand that we had a reservation for 7:30 pm.  He had not said a word and with no smile, basically did not greet us.  From that moment on, he only looked at his laptop and didn't look up at us at all.  That was a rather bad first impression that I got of Lazy Dog.  Somehow his body language(?) communicated with the hostess and she led us into the dining room and let us pick either a table or a booth, and we went with a booth. She didn't say much either, but at least she was not unfriendly. As soon as we sat down, a middle-age female server immediately came to our booth to take drinks order.  I told her with a smile that we just sat down.  She came back when we were ready.  I ordered a Tropical Sparkling Refresher ($5.50), which did not look like the online picture at all.  It was supposed to have orange juice, POM® Wonderful 100% Pomegranate Juice, coconut-pineapple cream + mint, but the glass was filled with ice and it was extremely watered down.  I drink POM® all the time at home, I didn't taste any of that in the drink. Actually, it didn't taste like any juices to me.  I will never order that Tropical drink again.  Husband and Daughter both had beers. Since they have an extensive menu, basically I only looked at the highlighted items in peach-colored boxes.  We had an order of Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice ($16.50) as appetizers to share.  It was flavorful and quite delicious, and perfect for sharing.  The only complaint was the two end pieces out of 6 had the ends deep-fried as well, making the sushi rice hard and difficult to eat.  The picture on their website showed all 6 pieces as middle pieces, not with deep-fried ends.   While we were eating the appetizers, our server came and asked us if we wanted desserts.  We looked confused and then she said, "Oh, you didn't have your food yet!" and left.  This was not a big deal, but it was her attitude that made us feel a bit uncomfortable at times.  Before this happened, she took our food orders, our daughter ordered a Half-Pound Cheeseburger ($14.95), then I ordered a Cuban Sandwich ($17.95).  When the server asked me "Fries?" I could start to see an attitude on her face.  Then my husband (a seafood-lover) ordered a Wild-Caught Sea Bass ($35.95), her facial expression was happy again. Both our daughter and I had noticed that she only looked at my husband when she talked to our table (I sat next to my husband), not the 2 of us, which was very weird. As far as the food was concerned, my Cuban Sandwich had a generous portion and was very good, and the fries were crunchy and nicely seasoned.  Daughter liked her cheeseburger as well.  My husband said his sea bass was just Okay and my home-cooked ones were better.  I believe he's not lying since I cook very good Chilean sea bass. This casual meal with tips came up to $138. We went to their two patios to look before we left and did not see any dogs, we didn't expect there were dogs there at that time of the night though.  They did have a robust fire in the pit going, there was a family at one table, it must be nice for such a chilly evening.

First time here on a Friday night for dinner. We got lucky and there was a high top available for two. The place was abuzz with families, couples, and people at the bar. If first impressions matter, we didn't see a server until 10 min after sitting. When he finally arrived he was nice if not a bit frazzled and took our order of a burger and a chicken lettuce wrap and drinks. 25 minutes later our food FINALLY arrives. And our server checks in once and no one to bee seen for water refills. The food was good overall-- think chain quality. The chicken lettuce wraps were the better order-- the chicken mix lettuce veg mix and hoisin sauce were well proportioned and tasty. The burger was good sized but why so messy? Sauce all over the bun and a bit hard to eat. We paid extra for onion rings and the 6 we got in the order were good but really? Six med sized onion rings were gone by the 5th bite of burger. In a world of choices and lots of chains, we'll save this one as a backup.

First time here and overall pretty good. We got the deal where you get an entree and dessert for $15 which is an amazing deal. The burgers and truffle fries were pretty good and the shrimp tacos were ok in my opinion. Next time I would definitely just get a burger. The s'mores sundae was so good but we were pretty stuffed at that point. Good place for a quick grab of some good food definitely recommend!

Really good vibe outdoors. It has a community feel - good to lounge, chat and enjoy company. Especially with the oversize fireplace. The food is really good, seasoned properly. Bar bites were good for sharing and had a really good assortment for happy hour. Service was good, checked on us frequently though it was pretty busy. Lowered the sunshade for us without promoting bc it's really bright in the late afternoon with sunsets. I liked the pot roast, super tender, and just good comfort food that makes you smile and savor n' enjoy the time.

Went to the Lazy Dog today for Brunch and had a great time! First time there and the food and service were great!! I had the Loco Moco Fried Rice. I put a picture of it before and after pouring the gravy over it. The dish was ridiculously good. We couldn't resist and ordered the banana pudding to put a cap on the lunch. Was in a total food coma and forgot to take a picture of it. The banana pudding didn't disappoint. They have a huge selection of beer and coco this place is definitely on the list to visit for dinner. There is also a large outdoor area that would be great for when it gets warmer. Can't wait to stop in again!!

We came for a later dinner (8:30 PM) on a Wednesday so too early for the evening reverse style happy hour however the place still had quite s few patrons in it. We sat at the two top at the end of the bar/service area it is a slight quiet table however it is not the nicest view of the place. Our server was new to Lazy Dog it was her third shift. She was nice and very helpful with many questions although perhaps a tad too talkative. My choice was the seared ahí tuna salad which was very fresh and a great choice for those who like Japanese food AND who don't want to eat the 1000+ calories that seem to come with nearly every other dish on the menu. This dish is listed at 550 calories. They serve Huy Fong Sriracha packets when you ask for them. nice touch instead of wasting tons of sauce in a ramekin or plunking a gross looking bottle on the table. My better half had the Cuban sandwich with pickled cucumbers. Since I am 100% Cuban I can say that this is one of the first, if not the only Cuban sandwich made by non-Cubans that is an improvement on the original. The bread was made with the standard roasted pork, ham, Swiss cheese and pickle filling built on slices of thick cut bread and the outside was well buttered and the whole sandwich was grilled and pressed to perfection. The paying experience needs to be upgraded as we love the tableside paying however the unit gives no option to get a paper receipt. It needs to be added to the options for those of use who want it. we waited a long time for her to return and then it took forever and we still never got a paid receipt. Not cool. That however was the only negative of the night. We will definitely return as it quickly becoming our "go to" place since Northbrook has few (to none) nice, yet casual restaurants.

I had a bowl of chicken tortilla soup with the shrimp tacos for lunch. The chicken tortilla soup was mostly tortilla and not much soup. About half of my bowl was tortillas. It was disappointing when I got the soup. My shrimp tacos were very tasty and I enjoyed the black beans and rice. It was nice that they gave us free garlic parmesan chips as it was our first time dining. We also had a dessert to end our meal and had the apple-huckleberry pie with ice cream. This was a good size and was shareable. I was a bit disappointed in the huckleberry IPA as there wasn't much huckleberry flavor, however I did have a taste of the huckleberry lemonade and that was delicious. Service here was outstanding and I will definitely come back.

Great restaurant with a wide variety or eats and drinks. The staff is extremely friendly and it was a very warming vibe. Also make sure you save room for dessert because they are fantastic!

Today we stopped in while out on a 96' Harley ride. We were hungry and thirsty I had a Cobb salad with balsamic blue cheese and a seltzer water with a lime My riding buddy had a grown up grill cheese with lemon tater tots and onion rings. Both were very tasty. Our server was attentive and served us well. The restaurant was clean and comfy We will be back Thanks all

Came here for a recent visit and they had a promotional of $15 fireside meals which is an entree along with a personal sized dessert. The entree is huge and and added benefit is the dessert bonus. We had the Loco moco and that was delicious. We also ordered a couple of the main entrees, shrimp Alfredo and the pot roast. We also got some of the happy hour appetizers that you can get either on the patio or the bar area.

Given it was a Saturday, there was an annual art fair in the Village Green close by, and the Mother's Day weekend, we expected it to be very busy, and it was justifiable so.  There was a rather long line placing orders at the cashier, but it moved quickly.  There were many laminated menus for us to read while waiting in line.  The cashier was friendly, patient, and helpful in answering questions.  Our daughter ordered an Avocado Toast and a Berry Zen Refresher.  My husband and I found that a good idea, and each of us also ordered an Avocado Toast, although I had hoped that I got different types of dishes to photograph, lol.  Husband had a Cappuccino, and I had a large Iced Pistachio Latte (oat milk).  This simple brunch came up to $77.34 with tip, and it's worth it. All 3 Avocado Toasts were perfectly made.  All the ingredients were very fresh, although there wasn't a lot of seasoning, the taste of each ingredient worked well together to achieve a delicious dish.  I especially liked the over easy egg and the crispy edges of the warm toast.  My Iced Pistachio Latte was very good without being too sweet. Although the food and drinks were the star, the ambiance was so pleasing and relaxed that totally elevated the entire experience.  The dining room with high ceiling and chandeliers was spacious and beautiful.  There were many different types of seating for patrons -- big comfy couches, regular tables, high-tops, small booths, conference rooms with long table and chairs, small private rooms... not to mention about the large sheltered patio with many tables and seats!  As I have mentioned, we went at a busy time, there were not a lot of tables left for dining purposes, we opted for a high-top.  Even though the venue was almost filled to capacity, it still felt very airy and comfortable.  I could just chill there happily for half a day with my latte! However, there were small hiccups that fortunately did not ruin our first experience there.  My husband's and daughter's drink came out almost instantly after we sat down, but I had to chase down a staff (there's no servers except for the staff who delivered the dishes or cleaned tables) to tell him that my drink was missing.  I told him that it's supposed to be cold but with no ice.  He immediately got me a Pistachio Latte but with ice.  The cashier lady had specified no ice on when she placed the order for me, I talked to her about this and she offered to make me a new one, but I had already had a sip and didn't want to put the drink to waste, so I just kept it.  I later scooped out all the ice so that it did not dilute my drink, and it was good.  I must mention that the food came out in just 5 minutes even though the place was busy. Our high-top table wobbled when we used our knives and forks to cut the toasts, not a very big deal, but the restaurant could easily have that fixed as I am pointing it out now, It's one of the high-tops under the BB sign. This brunch kicked off a very happy Mother's Day weekend.  I was in a very good mood going to the art fair from Bean Bar.  We will definitely return to try the many other items on their menu.

We arrived around 6:30 pm, and the outdoor terrace was completely packed. Since the restaurant is first-come, first-served with no host or hostess, it was quite chaotic. Even the indoor dining area was almost full. We initially sat inside for about 10 minutes without being greeted, then moved outside when we noticed a table becoming available. We were prepared for a slow evening, but after another 20 minutes outside, we were still waiting. A young male server came by and spent about 10 minutes taking an order from a group of five who had just sat down, while we had already been waiting for about 30 minutes. He then disappeared without taking our order. There were only two of us at a larger table, but I was happy to be there for the beautiful golf-course view, especially I wanted to photograph our food with the scenery in the background. I certainly didn't expect special treatment, but I did expect to be acknowledged and treated fairly. A few minutes later, a waitress named Karyna whose station was on the other side came over and asked whether anyone had helped us and whether we were "staying." I was surprised by the question after we had already been waiting so long. I explained what had happened, and she apologized and took our order. My husband ordered the Blackened Grilled Atlantic Salmon with mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables ($28), along with an Ebb + Flow Chardonnay ($13). He is a seafood lover and thought both were okay, although neither was particularly memorable. The $10 Chardonnay he originally wanted was unavailable. I ordered the Reuben with corned beef, sauerkraut, Swiss cheese, Thousand Island dressing on the side, and toasted multigrain bread ($15), with tater tots and a lemonade. The Reuben was delicious -- hot, generously portioned, and served on wonderfully crispy toasted bread. I took half of it home. The tater tots were crunchy, although only lukewarm. The $3 lemonade was essentially a fountain drink, which explained the low price. They don't serve desserts, so that's something to keep in mind. Once our order was taken, the service improved considerably. Another waitress brought our food with a cheerful "Happy Friday!" Both waitresses were genuinely sweet and checked on us several times to make sure we were happy. Near the end of our meal, the young server came back to apologize and later offered us a 20% discount. Since he apologized, I won't mention his name. I appreciated that he acknowledged the problem and tried to make things right, although the initial experience had already left a bad taste in my mouth. The terrace itself is lovely, with beautiful golf-course views and the potential to be a very relaxing place to dine. However, on a busy Friday evening it was extremely noisy, with many families and children moving between the tables. There was also live music at the other end of the terrace, although it was difficult to hear because of the surrounding noise. By the time we walked over after dinner, the performance had just ended, but I did get a photo of the friendly singer, Scott Birchwood, who told me he performs at local venues and festivities. Despite the rocky beginning, we ultimately had an enjoyable evening. The beautiful setting, generous portions, delicious Reuben, and genuinely friendly waitresses made up for some of the initial frustrations. Overall, I think Acorn Grill + Terrace has a lot of potential. I would recommend coming on a quieter evening if you want a more relaxed experience. We enjoyed ourselves enough that I would be willing to return.

I absolutely love Pomeroy!  I know I have said it many times.  This past Mother's Day we went to…read morePomeroy again.  It has become our go-to restaurant for celebrations.  I always consider Mother's Day the ultimate test for any restaurant, and Pomeroy passes with flying colors year after year! As expected, the restaurant was packed, both inside and in the beautiful courtyard. Families filled the dining room, with children of all ages at about 90% of the tables. The team at Pomeroy has been so consistent and professional, that all of our dishes were delivered at a perfect and steady pace, and qualities remained high. Although we got a different server each time we went, they were all very welcoming, friendly, and attentive.  This time, Carlisle did such a wonderful job even though she was super busy, and she wished me a happy Mother's Day several times to make sure that my day was special.  I must mention that the friendly hostess greeted me with well wishes too, and said happy Mother's day again when we left. We had noticed that they had replaced the couch in front of the courtyard fireplace with more tables.  Who could blame them when they had so many patrons to seat.  However, the courtyard still looked gorgeous. Now on to the food and drinks.  I had a mocktail Bleu 75 ($13) that's my favorite, my husband had a glass of chardonnay ($17), our daughter had a Le Spritz Strawberry ($16).  We shared an order of Sea Scallops ($23) and a Warm Tomato Tarte ($19).  I had my go-to dish which was the Mediterranean Sea Bass ($38), I loved the seared skin that was crispy on the edges. Husband and Daughter each ordered a Spring Halibut ($92 for 2) from the Mother's Day menu.  We ordered 2 Strawberry Crème Brulee ($28 for 2), and I shared 1 with my husband.  I also had a cappuccino ($6). The check came up to $283.05 before tips (they add a 3% surcharge to each guest check, which may be removed upon request, we didn't).  As always, our dinner was very enjoyable and it's worth the money.  I had a very happy Mother's Day dinner, and it ended a wonderful weekend with high notes!  We will keep returning!

Still a very nice Bistro ambiance, but they lost a star on this visit. We made reservations while…read moreon our way to the Chicago Botanical Garden ... close by and very handy. When we got to Pomeroy for dinner, we were seated in the farthest back room, one that was open-air ... the staff never asked us, they just put us there. The room was nice as was the weather, but the open-air room had gnats all over the place. Now we realize that gnats or fruit flies oftentimes come with wine servings ... and the Pomeroy has a bunch of nice wines, but the gnats flying around your face all through dinner was not pleasant. We ordered drinks to start, and found it hit-or-miss. The Watermelon Margarita seemed tempting, so we tried one. It came with a big smear of Tajin powder on the rim, and was not appealing. Once again, we thought they should mention this kind of thing before it appears. They replaced the drink, but it kept us off on the wrong foot. All in all, they still put our good food. Our complaint was the seating, the gnats, and the Tajin powder ... all they had to do was ask for our preferences and these could have been avoided. But alas, they drop to four stars.

We drive past Grill House all the time, it has been in Northbrook for a long time (I just found out…read morethat it's been here for 9 years), however, this was the first time that we ever visited, and I am happy that we finally did! My husband and I wanted a quick and good dinner one Sunday recently, and we picked Grill House after I read some good reviews on Yelp.  Although it's a casual, fast-food-style restaurant, the menu is surprisingly extensive, with a wide variety of healthy Greek dishes. It was definitely helpful to look over their menu online before we visited, because the menu board inside could be a bit overwhelming.  I guess I still looked quite confused when I saw 2 kiosks in front of the ordering counter.  A staff behind the counter offered to help, and I just ordered directly with him.  Later of the evening I discovered that he's the friendly owner Gus. After placing our order at the counter, we were given a table number, and our food was delivered promptly.  I ordered a Chicken Souvlaki Plate ($17.50 at the time, it's now listed online for $18), while my husband ordered a Filet Mignon Souvlaki Plate ($25.50).  Each souvlaki plate included a soup or salad, rice and potato (1 piece), a side of veggies, and pita bread in a paper bag.  It was a generous amount of food! We both chose the lentil soup, which was served piping hot in a nice ceramic bowl with a lid. It was flavorful and comforting. My chicken souvlaki was tender and juicy, never dry, and both the rice and potato were delicious. We were both impressed with the quality and value of the meal. I ordered a lemonade, which is considered a fountain drink ($4.00) and comes with free refills, though I couldn't even finish my first glass. My husband would have ordered a glass of wine if we hadn't had plans afterward, so we were happy to see that Grill House also serves beer and wine for a future visit. The service was another highlight. Everyone was warm and welcoming; a special shout-out to Kevin, who was very attentive and checked in on us several times.  When I was taking photos around the restaurant, the owner Gus greeted me again, which was a nice personal touch. The restaurant itself was bright, clean, and inviting. There's also a pleasant patio for those who prefer to dine outdoors. We will definitely be back to try more dishes from their extensive menu.  I am glad that we finally gave Grill House a try!
