We stopped here for lunch on a Saturday since it was close to Grosse Pointe Lighthouse. Parking was tricky- thankfully there is a park across the street where I was able to find street parking after searching around for a bit. The restaurant itself is decently sized with booths, tables, and a bar. It has a sporty vibe to it. It has a decent tap list with local craft options included. Prices are good. The service was friendly and had the perfect amount of attention given to our table. The food was also pretty good. I had a turkey burger with sweet potato fries. You can see on my picture that the avocado is fresh, and that cheese had a LEGIT melty pull to it. YUM. The burger itself was thin but with good flavor. The fries were super crispy and hot. YUM. My hubby got the fried chicken sandwich with buffalo sauce on it. Again, the sandwich was thin, which he enjoys. There was no cheese on this. The provided lettuce for the sandwich was pretty sad- very yellow and white icky iceberg. His tots looked a little lackluster as well. He didn't find them crispy enough. Overall, it was a satisfying lunch. I would come back if in the area, but would not go too far out of my way to do so. read more

One of our family's favorite Evanston restaurants for years and years. Menu is yummy! Burgers are great. I am not usually a sandwich person but their pot roast sandwich is YUMMO as are their salmon and chicken sandwiches. Their pizza is a bit of a hidden gem of what they have to offer. Can't say enough about this friendly, warm, locale. The service is always fantastic -- warm and friendly. I actually had my daughter's surprise 13th birthday at Bluestone and they even allowed me to bring in a cake and were so kind and accommodating. Overall Evanston GEM!!! Probably would've been 2 stars but victor is the freaking best. He brought high energy, a positive attitude, kindness, proactvity, and amazing service!! Food was better than average. Other than victor, staff was clearly way over stressed and therefore the overall experience was way below expectation. I do think it's not fully their fault - it's poor staffing by management. This place has the best customer service I have ever experienced. Their staff is very friendly, helpful, and attentive. All of them are professional. They greeted me the time I entered the place, guide me inside to find a table, and also get my orders right away. This place is amazing! Their menu is huge, they have plenty of selections, and you can literally find anything you want. They have appetizers, main dishes, side dishes, sandwiches, snacks, bread, liquors, coffee, and others. What a wide menu! I ordered their pizza, barbeque meal, chicken wings, fries, and a glass of beer. I am really satisfied! The whole time I spent here was really great! Everything was on point and made to perfection. The pizza is overloaded and cheesy. Their chicken wings are flavorful and crispy. All of the food I ordered is awesome even the beer is so cold. Fantastic! Bluestone is cozy, bright, and organized. They have plenty of seating, you can use the indoor tables and also the outdoor tables. Their interior is very relaxing and you will be going to like their decorations. Just returned home from an unfortunate experience at Bluestone. First they did not have menus, we were told by the server to scan the code that she put on table. My mother ordered a brandy Manhattan. Prices way up, quality way down. I used to like this place, but my last few trips have been consistently disappointing. Prices have gone *way* up and quality down. $14 for tiny, weak basic cocktails? $4 upcharge for literally a tablespoon (max) of chili on a $12 plate of soggy nachos? A basic burger for $17? Wait staff also never return to ask how your food is or see if you want another drink. They seem to be riding the coat tails of their neighborhood following, and used the pandemic trends as an opportunity to jack their prices beyond what's justified. No longer in range for a casual lunch or weeknight dinner, and for those prices you can get a much better meal, way better cocktails, and better service and atmosphere elsewhere. read more

Aggressively mediocre experience. Was in town last week. Heard good things about this restaurant around the corner. Website looked good so me and some friends went. That was a MISTAKE. Food was simply bad. If you want food without flavor, this is your spot. Also, why was the menu from the website not actually the menu available?? Amateur hour... And OH MY GOD those bathrooms... Anyways, it wasn't all bad. The saving grace was the bartender Kristen who took great care of us. Went there during lunch. I didn't feel like getting a big meal, so I settled with something small. I ordered the 8-inch thin crust pizza... The pizza itself was nothing more than a microwaved tortilla with a little bit of cheese. No sauce, no flavor, and overly burnt. Not even the ($1.15 per extra topping) dried cherry tomatoes could save it. I'm giving it 2-stars based off its pizza and slow service. read more

Once a month I meet a friend for lunch at Bluestone and as often in-between these monthly events as possible +\- an annoyed wifey. After 8~ years I'd class the place as a 'local' ... but I've got to be honest ... if it weren't for two long long time employees at the joint I'd probably not frequent the place again. The owner might possibly be the coldest fish some 5 blocks from Lake Michigan. Shame. The food is comfort food -- not incredible but certainly not awful. The place has a substantial number of regulars for a good reason :: it has a good vibe. It's just ... hmm ... that intangible but important friendliness is missing unless you're lucky to be served by the two veterans that 'get it' and hold this place together (in my limited opinion). Clearly I like the place but the difference between a wonderful tavern and a mediocre is the service you receive when you really REALLY don't want to be taken for granted. The owner (the owner's mrs?) needs to drink some of their good gin selection and loosen up cos she's a buzzkill. Is that unfair of me to suggest? Possibly but I'm the customer and dang it ... I can be right sometimes. UPDATE: So two comments to share - two "cheekies" so to speak: 1) I've been back to Bluestone a few times since my mixed bag review (nice place, lovely good, cold service) including as recently as my birthday (end of Sep 2014) and the service was great, fun, and the proprietor (a bloke) sat my family and it was lovely and warm and a good time was had. 2) The proprietor lady owner was terrifically proactive and interested in my 'cold fish' comments about her specific service (Yikes!) and that is cool. A-OK sums it up. FOOD: 3 stars I got the burger, which was very average. One thing that's always baffled me is: "Why do they ask me how I want the burger to be cooked when they're going to give it to me well-done, even if I ask for Medium?" Fries were average. SERVICE: 3.5 stars Service was fine. Nothing of note. AMBIANCE: 3 stars It was tough finding this place because there's no clearly-visible sign. We found it by spotting a small blackboard on the side of the patio area that had the name. Not a good start if people can't find the restaurant. The interior seemed very dated. The wood was very worn and the layout lacked any creativity. There is a fireplace, which could definitely be a focal point, but the seating was arranged such almost as if the fireplace wasn't there. Smoked Buffalo Wings! That bears repeating: Smoked Buffalo Wings. Yep, they are good, and the only ones around so far as I know. (At least, I haven't come across any others nearby worth mentioning.) These wings, while well made, lack a certain "melt your face off heat" that I so often crave, so next time I'll bring some with. ;-) However, the 5 dollar vodka lemonades and tater tots were a nice addition, and the pizza looked inviting as well. Solid beer selection and fantastic food. Came here after a Purdue men's b-ball victory over the 'Cats at nearby Welsh-Ryan and it was (unsurprisingly) packed to the rafters. Getting a beer at the bar was a lengthy ordeal, as only one bartender was staffed. You'd think that on a Saturday night after a basketball home game they'd have several barkeeps to handle all of the thirsty fans, but nooooope. Lots of great stuff on tap including a Bell's white ale, which I was enamored with. Plenty of familiar names (Two Brothers, Revolution) mixed with some lesser-known but equally-wonderful microbrews. Food was tip-top; the buffalo chix sammie I ordered had excellent breading and terrific flavor. Opting for the soup instead of the fries, I was rewarded with a bowl of heaven. The name escapes me now, but it was a chicken-tortilla-lime soup that totally floored me. Small noodles, fresh vegetables, and a broth that must've been made by the big man himself, it was THAT good. Service was timely and our food came out faster than anticipated. There looked to be a plethora of good choices on the menu, and everyone around us was enjoying something different. 4.5 stars; dreadfully slow bar service, but was quickly redeemed by a stellar soup + sandwich combo. We like coming here for a casual dinner with the kids. The food is good and generally the service is too. I think they spruced up the place a little since our last visit a few months ago. The southwest salad was especially good last night, everything was fresh and the veggies were cut to a good size and the lime cilantro dressing was very nice. Came here with my son, his baseball team, and a bunch of parents for a late lunch after a game. The place was bright, clean, and spacious with tables to accommodate all different sizes of parties. Given the size and number of kids I was pleasantly surprised at how welcoming and friendly they were. The service was attentive, prompt, and very hospitable. I tried the steamed chicken wings which were juicy, plump, crisp, and spicy. Very nice. The menu is big and diverse with something for all types of dietary needs and preferences. I got the black bean burger with Swiss cheese, sautéed mushrooms, onion, sweet red peppers, and jalapeños. The burger had a great texture and flavor. The toppings were generous in both size and quantity. All together it was simply delicious. It came with sweet potato fries which were soft and potatoey but with just the right amount of crisp. We were very excited that the Bluestone was open again durning the COVID 19 mess, but it turned into a big disappointment. We started the order with Smoke Chicken Wings, Caesar Salad and an appetizer with drinks and what a disaster. The wings tasted like cold dinner left overnight then thrown in the microwave for a few minutes, it was horrible. My friend's salad was a bowl of lettuce and to top the whole experience off I had a fly in my drink. Bluestone really burned their bridges for me after this mess. Very disappointed because I used to order their Smoked Wings all the time and they were great. But, done with them. read more

Very friendly, young, efficient-enough staff. Good, varied tap beer selection including Founders stout, a rarity. Decent wine selection though pours are small so a glass is a wee bit overpriced. Basic pub foods like burgers, mac and cheese, soups are okay. Upgrade your burger from a quarter to a half pounder for a dollar. Daily specials are offered. Meat has always been cooked medium to medium well though I've always requested medium rare. Had a good patty melt last night on toasted marble rye with a tasty house-made sauce and S. had a burger patty sans bun with a large portion of added avocado. Fries were cold and soggy and served in great abundance. Mac and cheese was tepid, light brown and clearly had been cooking far too long. Both the fries and mac and cheese were liberally peppered and the mac and cheese appeared to be accented with habanero. The slices of tomato had been frozen and were mealy. We like this place. On the whole they're okay, a nice, relaxed, mediocre experience. They feel comfortable with not trying very hard and it shows. Being there is like wearing that favourite stained, grey sweat shirt. I arrived on a Sunday morning around 11am looking for brunch. My normal go-to brunch place on Central was closed for vacation and this was across the street. My friend had been here for dinner but never for brunch so we figured we'd try it. First things first: I'm not sure why they're open for brunch because they have an incredibly limited brunch menu. I can't find a copy of their brunch menu online but think like maybe a handful of dishes. My friend and I both ordered chilaquiles, which is my favorite brunch entree. And these were the weirdest chilaquiles I've had. For starters, according to Wikipedia, chilaquiles are typically "corn tortillas cut in quarters and lightly fried are the basis of the dish. Green or red salsa or mole is poured over the crisp tortilla triangles, called totopos. The mixture is simmered until the tortilla starts softening [...] It is commonly garnished with crema, shredded queso fresco, raw onion rings and avocado slices." That is not what I received at Bluestone (and I usually receive exact description when I order chilaquiles at other restaurants). I received soggy tortilla chips covered in beef and pretty bland salsa. They didn't include crema and the dish had just a little cheese on it. The saving grace of the meal was the half an avocado, sliced. I give it 2 stars because it tasted good and I cleaned my plate. But this wasn't chilaquiles. It was more like breakfast nachos. read more

I arrived early for last night's dinner and handed my Amex card to the server with instructions that I get the bill at the end of the evening. I've done this countless times without a problem. At the end our meal--food was fine, service was spotty--our server shows up with the check and announces she's lost my credit card. Really? She was clearly embarrassed and I had no reason to make a scene over an unintentional error but really, "You lost my credit card?" It took me a half-hour to cancel the card and it'll take more time to deal with all the vendors that bill automatically to it. No offer to compensate me for my troubles, heck, I would have been happy with a free dessert. Guess not. read more

Boyfriend and I were visiting my parents for Easter, and the two of us, plus my sister and her fiancé, wanted to go somewhere with good food and great beer for a little grown-up dinner. We picked Bluestone because it looked like it fit the bill. And in most ways, it did. First, the plusses: broad beer selection (though the server looked at me like an alien when I asked if the bar carried any sour beers. "Is that a new thing?" Um, no). My food was good (a non-traditional patty melt which was surprisingly good, and solid fries). I got a beer I liked, so that worked for me. The minuses. Our server was, in a word, horrible. I've waited tables, so I know what it takes. You don't leave a table of four young adult drinkers with empty glasses for 15 minutes. Actually, where did she even go? How do you get 15 minutes away in a place like this? She dropped our food, checked back 30 seconds later (before we'd had a chance to eat), then vanished for the full duration of our meal. In that time, my sister took a bite of her chicken scaloppini (beware!) and discovered it inedible, and I'd given her half my sandwich, assuming that the waitress would return and we'd both be able to have enough food to get through the night. Wrong. Finally, the neutral: super duper kid friendly. Which is great if you think a little kid climbing over your booth is adorable (we did) but horrible if you want an adults only night out without the possibility of toddler screams or kids running in circles. The bottom line: we went to Bluestone to eat and spent $150 on beer. (The monetary amount, of course, wasn't the specific goal, but that's where we were headed.) Because of our waitress's sloth and apparent ineptitude, we had two rounds of beer and three entrees split between four people. Mercifully, I was able to get the waitress to take the disgusting scaloppini off the bill. I won't be back ... especially after I noticed that Coast opened its Evanston outpost practically next door. read more

I like the vibe of this place. The atmosphere is good and the decor is interesting too. The menu had lots of tasty options. I got the "grown up grilled cheese" with a side of baked mac n cheese with bacon mixed in. My meal was delicious and I finished all of it. I loved the bacon and the avocado in my grilled cheese, but ended up removing the tomato because it was all I could taste when I bit into the sandwich. The person next to me got the Fonz sandwich and he really liked it. I tried some of his sweet potato fries and they were so good!! I kept on stealing some of his fries when he wasn't looking. I moved to Evanston about five months ago, and when I looked for where to find a neighborhood pub, I found Bluestone. I could not have felt more at home when I walked in there on that first Sunday I was in town. I was greeted when I walked in by the bartender, along with some of the staff just saying hi. The bartender, Jen, was very helpful and walked me through the menu, the specials, and what was good on tap. After I ordered a drink, Jen totally realized I wasn't from the area and started giving me some helpful tips and info about the area. Really felt like I was being welcomed to the neighborhood, not just another patron at the bar. The food is always delicious, from the sandwiches to the pizza, and the smoked wings are off the chain. The chef's specials are always tough to pass up, and the beer selection is always solid too (they just added Metropolitan Fly Wheel, one on my favorites). Add in the fact that all the servers I have had there have always been helpful and very attentive and it really just adds to the whole positive atmosphere of the place. This place is hands down my neighborhood pub for sure, I take all my friends and any one who comes to visit me there, and we always have a great time. I went to Bluestone with a good friend. We have very different eating tastes, and both of us were very happy with our meals. I had a 1/4 lb. angus burger with cole slaw and my friend had soup and turkey pastrami...ooh, the smiles on our face when we left. Service was good, bathroom was clean and the general atmosphere was relaxing. I will definitely go back. I am unsure if the Bluestone has a parking lot. It's a lively neighborhood place that balances family friendliness with enough sophistication to make it a popular Evanston/Wilmette destination for Moms (and Dads) Nights Out. The upscale brewpub/supper club environment is also a great place to catch a beer before an NU game. Go to menu options include the outstanding mussels in buttery garlic cream, the BCO (a melt in your mouth sandwich of pot roast, grilled onions, french fried onions and cheddar on a brioche bun with horseradish sauce), spicy buffalo chicken sandwich, half a dozen angus burger choices, thin crust pizzas, pastas, meatloaf, calamari, wings, fish dishes, soups and a variety of daily specials. So far, the only item we've tried that came out subpar was the steak salad--overly chewy and dull steak slices on a bed of boring lettuce. The kids menu features a solid mix of standard kid fare executed well. The on-tap and bottled beer selection is small, but high quality with a few local and national craft beers (such as Three Floyds Gumballhead, Bells and New Belgium Ranger) balancing out the standard selection of macro-brews. Tried Bluestone for the first time on Friday evening. It wasn't too busy, so we were sat right away. After 15 minutes, a waitress had still not greeted us. The host noticed and brought us water and said "Someone will be here soon" Another 5 minutes pass and the bartender came by and said "Oh no, has she still not come by?" And took our drink order for us. ANOTHER 10 minutes went by, so I approached the hostess and said "Im so sorry, but we haven't met our waitress. Can you call someone over?" She agreed to help and suddenly, a waitress who had walked past my table ignoring us all night approached and said "What's up? Did you need another beer? Or did you want to order food?" RIDICULOUS! No greeting, no apology or explanation. Happened to notice that this waitress seemed pretty attentive toward white customer. A table that was sat after us received food and drinks before us. Food was mediocre. Won't be going back. Bluestone, train your waitresses to treat everyone equally. Thanks! read more
