Tasty burger. Small cozy place. I always order pick up from them. Will surely coming back again.

Pretty nice casual and convenient spot. Deli fare, short order grilled stuff. They have a pretty good assortment of sandwiches. Standard breakfast for me growing up is a bacon egg and cheese. I got mine with bacon, fried egg & cheddar on a bagel. Service was fast and it was early. It hit the spot, the bacon was all tasty and crispy, the cheddar melted real nice too. I was very satisfied and shall return. Cool part is they own a grocery next door. But that's a different review but nice as well

    Cheezy Italian Beef and fries

Decent for what it is - a small place near campus when you need a quick fix of filling food at ok prices. The cheesy Italian beef was a pretty large size and filing although the pepper or whatever seasoning on the beef tasted a little chemically to me. Beef was pretty tender and I liked the crisp, fresh yellow and red peppers (which they classify as sweet). I would perhaps try the hot peppers next time. Fries were actually very good - crispy outside and soft inside. Service was quick at lunchtime in spite of being busy. Basic, small interior with a handful plus of tables and some decent sidewalk tables. Beware that printed menu prices at the counter are woefully low except the hot dogs are still $3.99. Go by the prices on the board or website until they decide to print some updated menus.

D&D is a basic, casual eatery next to the Noyes purple line stop. I had been craving a hot dog for about two weeks so I decided to order one before I got on the L. When I asked for no mustard the cashier gave me a judgmental look. Normally, I would be upset to be judged for my order, but I understand that mustard on hotdogs is a Chicago tradition. Overall, the hot dog satisfied my craving; I liked the full pickle on it and the tomatoes were fresh. It was pretty small though so if you are hungry you would have to order more than just one.

    Gyro Sandwich

This place gives me the classic old time place feel combined with almost a food cart/food stand feel whilst being a brick and mortar location. ATMOSPHERE/ARCHITECTURE: 8/10 It's nothing impressive inside, but it is a quaint place. It seats maybe 20 inside and around 10 right outside of it. SERVICE: 8/10 The people here are nice and food comes out pretty quick. I like being able to see them slice off the gyros before they cook them up. FOOD: 8/10 I've tried a variety of different items here and everything so far I felt was quite good. Gyro Sandwich - The classic lamb and beef gyro with tzatziki sauce on pita bread. The gyro itself is flavorful, not too salty and not too greasy. It was very reminiscent to a lot of Halal street food, and that is an immense compliment. Cheese Fries - Crinkle cut fries with some warm cheese sauce over it. The fries were not overly salty and overall it came together well. I was impressed. Meatball Sandwich - I liked that the bread was toasted lightly first. It gave it a nice crunch to go along with the soft meatballs and mozzarella cheese inside. The meatballs were seasoned well. My one issue with this one was I felt that there was too little sauce so it was a little bit on the dry side. VALUE: 8/10 For the price, I think it's hard to beat getting almost anything from here. Everything as far as I can recall is $10 or less. PROBABILITY OF RETURN: 9/10 I've actually already been back! TO EAT OR NOT TO EAT: Go ahead and try something out here! I have heard good things about their hot dogs so I may try them out next. OVERALL: 8/10

I just came earlier today for a quick lunch. I ordered a double Chicago Dog with everything and a side of Cheese Fries. The fries were okay -- the frozen crinkle-cut style fries you see at a lot of cafeterias and it had warm melted cheese dripped over it. It was passable and luckily hit the spot. The dogs weren't bad at all, especially for the price ($3.65). They came with celery salt, relish, mustard, pickles, and sport peppers. Yum. I don't think I'll ever be craving dogs from DD, but it's nice to know it's just around the corner in case I can't make it out to anywhere else. Note: $5 minimum on card purchases.

Thankfully we were able to get seats at the bar and it was pretty fast to be honest. It's about $15 for a cocktail. Too expensive but good though. I got the Valley Lodge Signature, which is their main one of course. This is made with Chambord and Ketel One Citroen, along with cranberry, lime, and sour mix. It's about $17 for a burger. Burger patty seemed completely non-seasoned and absolutely none of the smoky flavor I've always associated with a Small Cheval burger. Kind of dry and overcooked, straight off a griddle. The fries were pretty good, best part of the meal. The chocolate shake was, somehow, kind of bland. Not sweet enough, typical fast food soft serve tasting. It's upsetting when you get a place in the suburbs and you have expectations based on what you had in the city. Then you go to the suburban location and you feel kind of taken advantage of. As though you somehow didn't know what to expect because you lived a few miles north. Like there maybe was a presumption you hadn't been to the real deal and the name would just be enough. The price is still the same, though. That part didn't change. Will not be back.

The food is pricey for what you get, what we've gotten (pancakes, breakfast burrito, smoked salmon scrambler, toluca skillet, rico tacos, tuna melt, reuben) has always been on the blander side of things, and the service isn't great. I sat at the bar, did not get so much as an icewater, let alone any eye contact, or even any acknowledgement that I have a pulse; I am at your bar; and at some point in time, down the line--I actually might want a MENU--which I had to personally ask for--over 20 minutes after seating myself. There were four workers on their staff, behind the bar. They did not seem to be doing much (of anything). I had to personally ask for my water refill, each and every time. The service is so completely slow and incompetent, I had to cancel an order and leave--it took so long, and I was having diabetes problems--still, however, for the price they try to charge for their drinks on tap, and the price they try to charge for their overrated (at best) food; the "bar talent" and/or professionalism/efficiency of their staff, from top to bottom--is considerably lacking. My experience at Bluestone is worse, Worse, WORSE--each and every following time I make the (poor) decision to go. I really wish Central and Prairie had other bars, with better culture, better professionals, and better "bar talent"--because a place like Bluestone would be GONE in FIVE MONTHS. As I checked out today, one of the bartenders, a young African-American male--made it a point--to tell me "he was giving me a great deal on my tab; half price off my second beer." There is a problem, though--I only ordered, and drank, one beer. He was clearly embarrassed (as he should be), when I explained this to him, and then he 1)stared me down, and 2) threatened me. That is a walking definition of U N P R O F E S S I O N A L. I will happily drive across the North Shore--than walk 200 yards to Bluestone. The food is decent. I am 46 years old, and have worked in the restaurant/bar industry for 30 of them... It is "Amateur Hour" at Bluestone, every moment of every day. They do not even look at you (customers). Totally unaware, spaced-out, not-at-all focused...Not just (anybody) can be a decent bartender--it kind of helps to be somewhat "sharp", somewhat "alert", be somewhat cordial, friendly, or amiable...Nope! It's located right down the street from Northwestern University's football stadium (whatever the heck they're naming it). This is a nice hidden gem in Evanston. Not located downtown, it may have a chance to stick around a while. As Jane V. noted in her review, you are greeted by a delicious smoky smell when you enter the restaurant. It was an inviting smell (at least for me), others in our group thought we were walking into a barbecue joint and were less than thrilled, but the menu put them at ease as it has a lot of options. There were five of us and one couple decided to share a couple appetizers as their entrees. They ordered the Cauliflower Buffalo Bites, and the Macho Nacho. They were huge portions easily enough for us all to share. However, my wife and I don't see eye-to-eye with our eating habits (she is mostly vegetarian and I'm a card-carrying carnivore), so she was not about to share the smoky wings and cheesy tots with me. I opted for the Chicken Vesuvio entree, and she and our other friend both ordered the Inside-Out Grilled Cheese. I would say most the sandwiches looked good (no portobello for me, thanks). I would say though, the desserts are pretty generic, so we opted out, but their is a door inside the restaurant to the donut shop next door (which was closed), but I wanted to try that place, so I'll have to make another trek out there for them and review them later. I'm amazed that the donut shop, DB3 Donuts, does not appear on their menu at all, despite having a connecting door from one establishment to the other, but alas, I've heard their apple crisp and brownie are good, but neither were too appealing that night. All meals were delicious and I definitely need to go back and try other dishes. And may DB3, if they are open. Give this place some love as it is a nice gem in Evanston.
