Truthfully!!! Zero star for this carryout restaurant. I ordered two large fried rice, what did I get instead?? I received a saddened 2 pure white dried dreadful rice with a plain soy sauce poured on top. Plus, the soy sauce was not mixed together into the whole white rice. Yes, the rice was mostly white as snow and cold too. I was dismayed, disgusted and very extremely disapponted. I imaged and realized the chef was distracted and forgotten about his customer fried rice. There was too much talking and not enough self conscientious cooking in proper manner. The proper right thing to do for reimbursement is to make 2 fresh real good tasty fried rice and Apologize. So I ordered here for the first time this past weekend. I think 3 stars is a little generous but the crab Rangoon was this places only decent food. The crab Rangoon was delicious. The beef and broccoli was ok and so was the beef, tomatoes and green pepper. Pretty good flavor but the gravy was already starting to congeal as we were eating. Kinda gross. I also ordered the Kung poa chicken, and asked for it medium spice. It was not spicy at all and the chicken tasted like it was a few days old. I threw the whole order out and I hate wasting food! Pretty good! Decided to try a new restaurant in Niles. Great prices & fast service (I ordered online and picked it up). Egg rolls and combination fried rice had great flavor but we're both a little dry. Mushroom egg foo young was delicious. Kung pow chicken had good quality chicken and fresh vegetables. Was my first time trying hot and sour soup, so i don't have anything to compare it to... It was interesting but I think I'll try a different soup next time. Not sure what happened here, but the food isn't what it used to be. Been a customer for at least 13 years and never had any problems with the food until tonight. Everything tasted off, the egg rolls had this weird reddish color, the Mongolian beef sauce was watery and tasted sweet rather than its usual spicy kick, and the chicken fried rice didn't taste the same and there was barely any chicken in it. Called to complain, they offered a refund so I went back and brought some if the items that didn't go directly into the trash. The owner refused to give a full refund and was basically a jerk. The food is good but not great, but they lost a star because of a breakdown in communication resulting in an error in our order. I'd ordered through Yelp!, online, and they in turn passed the order on to Eat 24, who in turn passed it on to the restaurant. When our food arrived, it didn't have the substitution of fried rice for the steamed rice that I'd asked for (the Yelp! site let me add additional instructions, and mentioned that there might be additional charges depending on the instructions, which would have been fine with me). It also didn't have the lo mein noodle substitution for steamed rice that my husband had requested, that I'd also indicated in the additional instructions. Here were the instructions I'd typed in the Yelp! ordering screen, which were repeated in the order confirmation I received back from Eat 24, so I know they weren't lost somewhere in cyberspace: General Tso's Chicken How Spicy?: Medium Instructions: No rice, but lo mein noodles instead. Shrimp Egg Foo Young (Large) Instructions: With fried rice. No white rice, please. When I opened the order and noticed the omissions, I immediately contacted Eat 24, through the link they provided in their order confirmation, and I eventually (maybe 15 minutes later, after we'd already started eating after waiting a few minutes for a prompt response that didn't come) heard back from them via email that they'd requested that the restaurant make the order right, but they'd said it was too late. I asked where the ball got dropped, and the response from Eat 24 was, "They have informed us that because the upcharges were not tacked onto the order, the restaurant did not add the fried rice and lo mein." But there was no place to "tack these on" in our ordering process, or I would have done so. So again, Yelp!, Eat 24, and Lucky Wok, where exactly was the ball dropped? Anyway, on to the food ... The crab rangoon was pretty good -- A bit sweet, but not too much, and a bit undercooked and chewy. If I wasn't so hungry I probably would have put them in the oven for a few more minutes to crisp up a little more. The fried wontons were good, too, although I prefer the meat-filled ones, which weren't an option on their menu. I reheated these the next day, and they were even better then. The shrimp egg foo young was just okay. This is one of my go-to dishes I use to evaluate a new Chinese restaurant, and my review of this one was that it lacked flavor compared to many others I've had. It was just kind of bland. I bought a large order, ate one that night and tried one the next night to make sure I wasn't just negatively judging because of the fried rice and lo mein dust-up (I wasn't), and I never ate the other two. They just weren't interesting enough to make me want to finish them. (This is highly unusual for me! But with no fried rice, and with being kind of bland, there was just no appeal.) My husband had his usual General Tso's Chicken. One thing we really liked was that the online ordering let him specify his spiciness level (as you probably noticed above, he chose medium). He said it was good, and he was okay with the white rice, but would have much preferred the lo mein. He ate about half that night, and reheated the other half the next day, so the portion was ample. In summary, we'll probably order from there again, but I won't get the egg foo young this time, and I'll call the restaurant directly to make sure the order is placed the way we want it. read more

This was all awful. The food was terrible. Extremely greasy. Last time I got take out, the first bite was essentially plain noodles then the bottom was a greasy substance that tasted terrible. My friend ordered a dish that was nothing like what I've had at any other place, and it was just plain bad. Also, kinda rude when taking orders on the phone, and I told them they gave me the wrong soda so they took it back and I left thinking they fixed the issue. They didn't. They just gave me 2 of the wrong soda lol. Too many great places to waste time here. read more

Tried a GrubHub for the first time here. Delivery was very fast. Driver courteous,. The egg rolls were ok but a bit mushy. Kung Bao Beef was ok. Needed a better variety of veggies. For a full order there was 1/2 of green pepper, some tiny bits of carrot maybe a 1/4 or less diced, some bok choy, water chestnuts and a few puny celery slices. Not impressed with the thick brown sauce either. Pretty good cut of beef and a generous amount. Not fatty or chewy. Pad Thai was ok. Noodles a bit overcooked, not many veggies. Ordered via grubhub on their website. Very fast and easy to place order and have it delivered. Was happy with sesame chicken meat quality. It white meat that was fresh. Batter was too soggy tho I peeled it off as it was no big deal today for me. If you like it crispy ask for sauce on side and put it on when you get it. The sauce is not sweet like other places its got a tang to it. Crab rangoon was great. Creamy. Too bad it wasnt in the crispy wonton style or it would have been extraordinary for me. Pretty darn good Chinese food! I ordered via grub hub, quick and detailed menu options. I didn't know that white rice would come with the entrees so I ordered it separately. I saw another reviewer mentioned that they use MSG, I didn't research this, and was a bit weary after placing my order. It arrived in the time stated (but $6 delivery charge was not cool!) The food reminds me of china town chinese food, not just take out. Everyone commented similarly. I ordered medium-hot spicy level, but most items came a little bland, while I like some kick in it. Next time I'll order over the phone to get my point across, cause sometimes I wonder what prints for them off of grub hub may not be exactly every checkmark box I checked off. They use MSG. No other reviews mention this, so I thought I'd better call and ask. They said I could ask for them not to add it in some things, but other things they can't take it out. Our other Chinese restaurant closed so we wanted to try Lucky Wok out. I had the Vegetable Lo Mein. My husband had the sweet and sour chicken. We also had Crab Rangoon. My noodles had a smoky flavor, and not the good kind like hickory. They had a burnt smoke flavor. My husband said his was just okay. Not much of a flavor to it. The Crab Rangoon was pretty good. Thicker crust than what I am used to, but overall not too bad. For the price, the amount they give you is great. Especially if you enjoy Chinese leftovers. Seeing as we threw ours out, we were disappointed with how much our meal cost. We are now on the search for another place to get our Chinese fix from. read more

I've lived in Niles for almost 40 years and after three visits here, this is hands down the best Chinese take-out joint Niles has seen. Honestly, the pickings have been slim (China Star? Ugh, please). The owners at Lucky Wok are always smiling, the vegetables are fresh, the chicken has no gristle and the chunks of REAL white meat are large, not shredded. You can dial the spiciness up or down, which is great when you have kids. The food is hot, reasonably priced and prompt. Portions are generous though not huge. Plus, it's not excessively greasy and you don't want to just nap after eating their food. They sometimes throw in a surprise dish with larger orders--fun! It's a shame a few knuckleheads can bring down the overall score of a really clean, incredibly friendly and delicious little restaurant. You were shocked to find MSG at a Chinese restaurant? That's just dumb. And how is a guy from Virginia commenting on a restaurant in Niles, Il? Makes you wonder. We typically order, Kung Pao Chicken, Veg Fried Rice, Beef & Broccoli, Egg Rolls, Sweet & Sour Chicken and Sesame Chicken. We haven't had a bad dish from here yet! Totally recommended. read more
