Walking around P-Town on a warm Juneteenth evening, felt the ol' sweet tooth point me towards a small bakery tucked away off Main Street. Coconut macroons, soft and just the right amount of sweetness, Cookies and Croissants (Chocolate, Almond, Cream cheese), Doggie Biscuits (not for me but my four-legged sidekick) , Petit Fours and...wait for it....Turkish Delight. Came here because the monster in me has been craving for princess cake lately. Since I couldn't make my way to San Francisco on weekdays, I decided to give this place a try. It's a small, old school bakery that's located in the center of downtown Pleasanton. There's nowhere to sit inside the bakery so don't expect to come here and eat a piece of cake with your friends. I got a slice of the princess cake (of course), bear claw & almond cookie. Took a bite of the cookie as soon as I got home and MMM it was so good! Strong almond flavor and the cookie just melted in my mouth. I'm saving the bear claw for later. Finally, I ate the princess cake and it was good. The cake was soft with the right amount of cream. However, the raspberry jam tasted a little artificial, but it was acceptable. The marzipan was thicker than I liked. Overall, it was good, but definitely not the best I've ever had. The cannolis were incredible; they reminded me of Venierio's in New York. So good and not overly sweet with their filling. I could seriously just order a dozen of them! My family finally decided to try Primrose Bakery to get some sweet treats for a late Thanksgiving dinner and were not disappointed. The pecan pie was a classic but the Mixed Berry pie was the absolute winner of the night. The filling was flavorful and refreshing, especially after a heavy Thanksgiving meal. Definitely can see us coming back from more of the Mixed Berry Pie! We also grabbed a few cannolis to try including caramel, chocolate chip, double chocolate and pistacho . A sticker on the box recommended for customers to leave the cannolis at room temperature for an hour before consuming so the cream had time to soften. I was a little disappointed though because the cannolis shells softened significantly during the hour and were mush by the time we ate them. The girls in there were so sweet and helpful. There was so many cute halloween/fall themed pastries! I wanted to eat everything but settled on the pistachio cannoli, salted caramel chocolate cake and caramel apple cheesecake. They were all so good. The cannoli was so creamy, almost like an ice cream. Salted caramel cake was lava cake perfection, so decadent and rich, they recommended I heat it up in the microwave for a few seconds. Sadly I'm giving this place a three star review because it wasn't specially honest approach ( the person at the register didn't have much knowledge about the product she was selling, but she was very nice and polite). And the deserts weren't specially tasty. The bread that was sold as a sour dough was created with yeast ( why to call it sourdough?) the tart/ frangipane ( tiny piece of mostly sugar for $7 weeks had to throw away, no one in our party liked the taste it was purely sugar impossible to eat. Parm Leek croissant was pretty good though. Princess cake was good too. This bakery has very large variety of deserts and cakes, very busy place, convenient location. They were my lifesaver as I planned everything on last minute and out of all the bakery that I called, they were the only one who pulled through. Customer service is great. Never had the chance to stop in to Primrose Bakery but have always heard raving reviews! We stopped in on a Saturday during the farmers market, so like all other places in dwntwn. parking can be a challenge. We were pleasantly greeted and assisted by the helpful and friendly staff. We picked a few items...a chocolate chip cannoli, pistachio cannoli, a lemon round bar, a chocolate eclair, a bourbon maple eclair, and a chocolate raspberry mini cake. Our favorite was the bourbon maple eclair...decadent but not over the top or too rich. And you can absolutely taste both elements of the icing. The filling is light and creamy; 2 thumbs up! Our least favorite was the pistachio cannoli...it just lacked flavor. Everything else was fantastic. We saved the mini chocolate raspberry cake for a birthday the following week. When I realized we had more people than expected I picked up another during the week. I also grabbed a bear claw and a fruit danish. The bear claw was to die for! Perfectly crispy pastry with cinnamon almond paste on the inside and icing almonds and cinnamon sugar on top. I could eat those everyday! I would give the fruit danish 3 out of 5 stars. I thought it was a little thick on the cheese and fruit and my boyfriend was just not a fan. Last, we finally got to dive into the chocolate raspberry mini cakes and WOW... it was like eating a See's candy but in cake for. Packed with flavor, the raspberry mousse is a perfect consistency, cake was moist, and the chocolate icing and ganache were perfect. The presentation on these cakes is not over the top and just enough that you'll know you're biting into something decadent. What a surprise for a birthday! I discovered delicious pastries during a bike ride through Pleasanton and thought about trying their hazelnut cake. I tried the mini size and it was very rich and decadent. My wife loves hazelnuts, so I ordered a full size for her surprise birthday party. Maureen, the head baker, and her team were very responsive and helpful to customize the cake. The wife said it was the best hazelnut cake she has ever had. Perfect balance of nuts, rich hazelnut ganache and hazelnut cream icing, white and chocolate cake, and extra coarse chop nuts. I ordered the hazelnut cake and it was awful!! Dry, tasted bad, poor decoration, and $$! Almost $60 for a bad cake that no one liked or ate was a huge disappointment and waste!
