My sister and I have definitely become regulars at this restaurant, downtown Phoenix has a lot to offer, but this place is a must-go when we're in the area. The restaurant itself gives really cozy vibes and a wonderful atmosphere, some of the drinks are created by the staff themselves and each and every one has an amazing touch and tastes equally as great! There's definitely something for everyone! We've always gotten the most attentive and knowledgeable service here and the staff makes you feel warm and welcome. With a rotating food and drink menu, it's best to come often to see all that Pretty Penny has to offer. When you're done, make sure to stop by Legends Never Die right next-door to have one last drink before you make your way home. read more

Sam was amazzzzing tonight. This was a very special experience with our food and drinks. Elite vibe too. Just come hurrrr.

From the service to the food, you will not find a better spot. This was our first time here and we will definitely be coming back. The duck, bulgogi and the sourdough bread were by far our favorites. Also gave the zucchini and lamb ragu a try as well and both were excellent. Also a fantastic cocktail and wine list. We loved everything about this place. read more

def a 5 star, they have the best foods and also the cocktails are good.. we have soo much fun together with my friends here! def coming back

Pretty Penny is the kind of restaurant that makes you think, Wow, Phoenix is really growing up. And by "growing up," I mean it's charging $185 for a ribeye and somehow making you feel like it's a steal. Let's start with the food. Chef Marcelino Ramos isn't messing around. The lamb ragu with paccheri is basically a hug in pasta form, and the braised octopus tostada is so fancy it made me Google "blue corn sourcing." That ribeye, though? It's a 44-ounce monument to decadence that comes with its own gravitational pull. Share it with friends, or tackle it solo and let your server document your bravery for the restaurant's Instagram. The cocktails are where Pretty Penny really shines. Dividing the menu into categories like "fizzy" and "sophisticated" is a bold move that says, "We care deeply about your buzz." The Yuzu Clover Club is creamy, tangy perfection, and the charred tomato martini is like a Bloody Mary's cooler, more cultured cousin who went to art school. Also, caviar at cost? Are they trying to turn us into downtown Phoenix royalty? Because it's working. The vibe is what you'd expect from a place serving $185 steaks: dim lighting, chic decor, and the faint hum of people trying not to calculate the tip out loud. Whether you're here for a cocktail or a full-on splurge-fest, Pretty Penny is proof that Phoenix's dining scene isn't just evolving -- it's thriving. Come hungry, bring your credit card, and maybe don't tell your accountant. read more

I had not been aware of Pretty Penny until I saw that it was hosting a leg of the Ardbeg ( Scotch ) Masters of Smoke tour in Phoenix. We decided to check it out and what a great decision that was. Relatively small and intimate, Pretty Penny has a nice bar area and comfortable table seating for perfect outing or date night. We were promptly welcomed in even though we were early for our reservation; granted - it wasn't busy but still a great impression. I'm terrible with names but our server was outstanding. He outlined the menu items and presented us with the specials that were related to the Ardbeg tasting event. What really stood out for us was the meticulous detail he showed with the table placings. Everything was laid out "just-so", very neat and precise, which wasn't necessary and seemed too much for the venue but let me say, it was amazing and refreshing. The menu is largely seafood-based but ever-changing. I chose the outstanding Octopus Tostada while my better half decided on the Beef Tartare, which were both delicious. We split the Oishi Oyster Duo that was part of the event menu. Quite nice. Service and ambiance were just great. Attentive without being overly intrusive. Our server was really engaging and explained a lot of the philosophy and techniques of the drinks, etc. Wonderful spot. The chef took the time to see if all was good, too. The only minor thing I would mention is that the overhead music was a bit too loud. Other than that minor detail, it was an absolutely perfect evening out. Do yourself a huge favor and check out Pretty Penny. Get Downtown and treat yourself. read more

Amazing food and service tonight. Our server was Caleb who was very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. We ordered the crudo, oysters, pasta, branzino, and duck. Everything tasted amazing. Cocktails were yummy as well. Would definitely recommend for a date night or special event. read more

This was a nice hidden gem on Roosevelt. This place had a really good vibe and a small intimate setting. I went with a group of five and we decided to share all the food. I was a little sad that they didn't have the oysters since that's what made me pick the place in the first place. We ended up getting the octopus and smoked trout which was very tasteful, however I wish they brought us more bread. The lamb briyani was good but it's not anything like traditional briyani. The carrots...AMAZING! Packed with flavor and seasoned well! The groups favorite fish of the night. read more

Beautiful interior with gorgeous plush seating. Cocktails are beyond amazing - I even asked for mocktails and they were so delicious, I didn't even miss the alcohol. Love that the menu is always rotating and changing. The seafood tower is wonderful. The tomahawk steak is out of this world. The hamachi crudo was pure heaven. Cold crab noodles were spicy and refreshing. The octopus tostada was decadent. And do not sleep on the desserts. On top of it all, the servers go above and beyond. Definitely one of my favorite spots to go to! And if you have a date to impress - well, this is the spot! read more

The cocktails here are so delicious. A lot of them are milk washed so they are very smooth. I loved the beer tartare and lamb ragu pasta. The pasta had some heat from the pepper but it was balanced perfectly with the tender meat. The beer tartare was very fresh and the bread complemented it very well. We also got an order of the caviar, which was awesome. We also got a complimentary glass of champagne when we sat down. The service was great. I would definitely come back here. read more

The food was delicious. Ambiance was relaxing. Drinks were very good. I would definitely return.

Everything was incredible, from food to service and ambience. The people working here love what they do. What more could you ask for?! read more

I want to gatekeep this place so it doesn't get too busy, but I need y'all to know how incredible it is. 10/10 recommend - honestly one of the best meals I've had in recent memory. We sat at the bar and had great service & conversation from everyone from the chef to server. Chef shared his inspirations behind the dishes and in depth details about the ingredients, which I love. "Le Prawn James" special - 10/10! Squid ink pasta served inside one is the biggest prawns I've seen, in an uni butter sauce. Absolutely incredible Octopus tostada - 10/10! Great texture contrast between the crunchy tostada & perfectly cooked tender octopus. Duck carpaccio - 9.5/10! Very flavorful with a plum sauce & ginger accents. A little light in quantity IMO. Uni & oyster special - 7/10. The only dish I wasn't just totally blown away by. I thought the portion was pretty small given the price tag and was a little bummed the seafood tower is only available on weekends now. They are running a promo for half price ALL bottles of wine before 7pm. Great wine list! I will be back soon! read more

This place is mazing. Amazing food and service to all the guests. Highly recommend. My wife loves it here

Pretty Penny was hands down one of the best dining experiences I've had in Phoenix. Every single thing we had blew our minds. My wife and I were trying to figure out what was our favorite, and we simply couldn't figure it out. The food is an experience, the service provided by Caleb was attentive and so helpful, and the environment is quiet and gorgeous. This is one of the best restaurants in Phoenix right now, and we will be back many times over. read more

Food service and ambience all across the board this place is five stars. I can't wait to come back.

This was one of the best experiences and meals I've ever had. The restaurant itself is super small in such a cozy way. Beautiful glassware and dishes. Prosecco toast to start, gorgeous presentations, incredible food and truly incredible service. This will be a go to spot for date nights and celebrations. I wouldn't be able to say enough good things in this post. read more

This place knows how to deliver! The cocktails are expertly crafted--balanced, flavorful, and just the right amount of kick. Whether you're into bold and smoky or light and refreshing, they've got something that hits just right. And the food? Unreal. Every dish is packed with flavor, perfectly cooked, and pairs beautifully with their drink menu. You can tell there's real skill in the kitchen and behind the bar. If you're looking for a spot where both the drinks and food are super on point, this is it. read more

This is hands down my favorite restaurant in Phoenix. They knock it out of the park every single time. My husband and I have been dining with them since they were across the street. They just keep getting better and better. From the service to the food and drinks, you will not be disappointed. This team knows what they are doing, period. The flavors they play with and the attention to detail in the whole space is wonderful. I cannot rave about this restaurant enough! read more

Food, drinks and service were great. Atmosphere was good as well. Will definitely be back!

New favorite spot downtown- for sure. And that means a lot coming from me. The drinks are actually worth the cost (unlike the places that charge you $15 for a margarita- yikes.) The food is delicious and always fresh no matter how busy the guys are. The staff is friendly and always makes time to speak with me regardless of how busy it is. They have great vegetarian options, which I always appreciate. The only thing I might recommend is having a vegan option (I'm pretty sure they use butter on the veggies, but don't quote me on that. ) Catch me there on the weekends if you're lucky read more

My wife and I walked in here during "First Friday" in October. We were visiting phx from Philly. The host/owner? greeted us and, as he sat us, chatted us up about his favorite places in Philly. Very friendly. The food was really, really good. The service was paced really nicely. My only gripes were that the music was too loud, which seemed to cause the party of four at bar to be REALLY loud with their conversation and laughing. One woman was so loud with her shrieking laughter that the entire restaurant stopped to see what was happening more than once. read more

This place is amazing, top to bottom. Every dish was outstanding and the service was incredible. I want to talk about the service in particular - my wife has an unusual allergy to garlic. I knew their menu has limited items and changes from time to time, so I reached out through Yelp to ask if they had options without garlic. They responded and let me know that they had non-garlic options, but not which ones (tough to do when their menu changes periodically). Fortunately, my wife liked most everything that was described on the menu, so we figured we'd find something that worked for her. Here's where Pretty Penny went above and beyond. The day of our reservation, Brenon reached out to me via text to let me know exactly which dishes they could make that evening without garlic - he wanted to make sure there would be something for my wife. Admittedly, there wasn't a lot, but it turned out to be exactly the dishes she most wanted anyway. But that act of going above and beyond meant so much. Wait, there's more to this story - in making my wife's main dish, they accidentally put a sauce on top that had garlic and had to start over. Everything is made fresh, so this meant her main dish was very delayed. Fortunately, we already had a couple of small plates so we were ok, but the waiter (Sean) was so concerned about it. He came out regularly to apologize and inform us of the status and then comped us dessert to make up for the delay. He didn't have to do that - we hadn't complained and we hadn't asked for anything, but this shows you the kind of place Pretty Penny is - they go above and beyond to make sure their customers are happy with their experience. And we left VERY happy. Every dish was amazing. We started with the hamachi crudo which was so light and fresh, with a nice spicy edge, and the Thai curry ceviche - I was lucky to get the last one available that evening and I'm so glad. It was unbelievably good - oh, I should mention that we wanted to lick every dish clean, the sauces were so flavorful. My wife had the branzino with a non-garlic based sauce and she raved about it. My only misstep was ordering the leek risotto. It was good, but it was too heavy for one person (my wife couldn't eat it due to the garlic). By about halfway through the plate, I wished someone would help me eat it, yet I still ate THE WHOLE THING and wanted to lick the plate when I was done. But it filled me up and left me with little room to try something different. That was my misstep - Sean had even warned us that the plates are more filling as you go down the menu. I'm not local, but if I go back at some point I would probably try the chicken - that looked great and Sean even mentioned it has one of his favorite sauces. For dessert we had the matcha tiramisu and the budino. Both were great, but I'll give the edge to the matcha tiramisu. Such flavor and such a unique approach to tiramisu! Bottom line - this is a place that goes above and beyond with respect to service, their food is outstanding, and the ambience is nice (if a little noisy and cramped). Will revisit in a heartbeat the next time I'm in Phoenix. read more

Date night or pre-game? Sexy food to share and cocktails to kick off the evening. When you walk up to the building you smell the charcoal burning, I loved it! You're instantly greeted with that feel good energy, there's plenty of seating outside and inside. I'd recommend sitting at the chef counter, chef Marcelino is fun and passionate about his flavors, he hands your food to you that was just prepared right there! Definitely start with a signature cocktail, the Old Fashion was on point. Shared the octopus and the duck carpaccio, oh boy was it delicious. Brought in the seared scallops, that crispy prosciutto with mushrooms was wow! Helllloooo! Finished with the tender half chicken, you get that subtle charcoal smoke, that polenta and broccolini was a perfect pair! read more

Randomly came across their instagram and then looked into them and saw all the great reviews! We've gone in twice once in May and once June to celebrate special occasions. Each time has been an absolute treat. Definitely make reservations. We sat at the bar both times. I enjoyed being able to see all the magic happen and chatting a bit with the Chefs. I really wish i had the stomach to eat the whole menu and a liver to handle all the drinks. (if you can't tell i'm in love with this place.) Food: The menu has changed since the first time we went. Attempting to remember what I got. 1) Duck Carpaccio, Octapus tostada, NY strip, Scallops 10/10 2) NY strip, duck al pastor, caviar, octapus tostada , hiramasa crudo Definitely the caviar is worth giving a shot, we hadn't tried it before and we definitely had a lot of fun! Octapus tostada i think is my absolute favorite, it's so unique and flavorful-- like nothing i have ever had before. They have rotating daily specials which is super fun! Drinks: They have really unique cocktails as well as a diverse wine list with we typically look for french and italian wine, they had solid options at a good price point that we would've ordered if we were in the mood for wine. can't remember what we got exactly but we were happy, they also do a great job of helping you order if you're feeling indecisive. Service: The staff is super friendly and helpful super patient with giving suggestions and super passionate about their craft and it really shows in the experience and through their food and drinks. Overall highly recommend, but my recommendation isn't really necessary since this place truly speaks for itself! Can't wait to go back again! read more

Celebrating our anniversary, my husband and I opted for surf and turf. The beautifully seasoned tomahawk steak was grilled to perfection. The lobster was a giant beast of a shellfish, cooked in an amazing buttery sauce and topped with a splash of lemon juice, encapsulating everything we love about lobster. Served with a side of mashed potatoes and broccolini, it was all *chef's kiss*. The service was great with the guys taking good care of everyone and they genuinely were enthusiastic about the menu offering. And watching them work behind the bar, meticulously plating these amazing dishes was really fun to see. Made me even more appreciative of my food. The restaurant decor was beautiful. 10/10 Pretty Penny was an outstanding experience. Booked for one while traveling on business. Since I was solo they sat me at the chefs counter. The service was super attentive while also being relaxed and welcoming. The guys on the line were great as well and happy to make recommendations. Started with the Brown Butter washed Paloma, some olives and the Octopus Tostadas which were out of this world. For the main I asked the line and they both suggested the half chicken with the Chinese broccolini, partnered this with the Red Apple Old Fashioned that was fat washed with sticky rice. The depths of flavors on everything were outstanding, I could eat two sides of the broccolini. Overall a wonderful experience in a really cool neighborhood restaurant. read more

My wife and swing by just after happy hour on a Friday without reservations. We were able to get seated immediately as they were not busy yet. We received a rundown on drinks, the menu and specials. Pretty Penny's take on an old fashioned was great with a mix of bourbon and scotch and fermented strawberry juice. The presentation was great with salted chocolate on the large cube. We enjoyed the oyster app, but the raw tuna sushi app was better. We also had the cauliflower and the La Prawn James entree which was spectacular. A huge shrimp in a red sauce with squid ink pasta.
