The cocktails here are so delicious. A lot of them are milk washed so they are very smooth. I loved the beer tartare and lamb ragu pasta. The pasta had some heat from the pepper but it was balanced perfectly with the tender meat. The beer tartare was very fresh and the bread complemented it very well. We also got an order of the caviar, which was awesome. We also got a complimentary glass of champagne when we sat down. The service was great. I would definitely come back here. read more

We sat at the bar and had great service & conversation from everyone from the chef to server. Chef shared his inspirations behind the dishes and in depth details about the ingredients, which I love. "Le Prawn James" special - 10/10! Squid ink pasta served inside one is the biggest prawns I've seen, in an uni butter sauce. Absolutely incredible Octopus tostada - 10/10! Great texture contrast between the crunchy tostada & perfectly cooked tender octopus. Duck carpaccio - 9.5/10! Very flavorful with a plum sauce & ginger accents. A little light in quantity IMO. Uni & oyster special - 7/10. The only dish I wasn't just totally blown away by. I thought the portion was pretty small given the price tag and was a little bummed the seafood tower is only available on weekends now. My wife and I walked in here during "First Friday" in October. We were visiting phx from Philly. The host/owner? greeted us and, as he sat us, chatted us up about his favorite places in Philly. Very friendly. The food was really, really good. The service was paced really nicely. My only gripes were that the music was too loud, which seemed to cause the party of four at bar to be REALLY loud with their conversation and laughing. One woman was so loud with her shrieking laughter that the entire restaurant stopped to see what was happening more than once. read more

This place is amazing, top to bottom. Every dish was outstanding and the service was incredible. I want to talk about the service in particular - my wife has an unusual allergy to garlic. I knew their menu has limited items and changes from time to time, so I reached out through Yelp to ask if they had options without garlic. They responded and let me know that they had non-garlic options, but not which ones (tough to do when their menu changes periodically). Fortunately, my wife liked most everything that was described on the menu, so we figured we'd find something that worked for her. Here's where Pretty Penny went above and beyond. The day of our reservation, Brenon reached out to me via text to let me know exactly which dishes they could make that evening without garlic - he wanted to make sure there would be something for my wife. Admittedly, there wasn't a lot, but it turned out to be exactly the dishes she most wanted anyway. But that act of going above and beyond meant so much. Wait, there's more to this story - in making my wife's main dish, they accidentally put a sauce on top that had garlic and had to start over. Everything is made fresh, so this meant her main dish was very delayed. Fortunately, we already had a couple of small plates so we were ok, but the waiter (Sean) was so concerned about it. He came out regularly to apologize and inform us of the status and then comped us dessert to make up for the delay. He didn't have to do that - we hadn't complained and we hadn't asked for anything, but this shows you the kind of place Pretty Penny is - they go above and beyond to make sure their customers are happy with their experience. And we left VERY happy. Every dish was amazing. We started with the hamachi crudo which was so light and fresh, with a nice spicy edge, and the Thai curry ceviche - I was lucky to get the last one available that evening and I'm so glad. It was unbelievably good - oh, I should mention that we wanted to lick every dish clean, the sauces were so flavorful. My wife had the branzino with a non-garlic based sauce and she raved about it. My only misstep was ordering the leek risotto. It was good, but it was too heavy for one person (my wife couldn't eat it due to the garlic). By about halfway through the plate, I wished someone would help me eat it, yet I still ate THE WHOLE THING and wanted to lick the plate when I was done. But it filled me up and left me with little room to try something different. That was my misstep - Sean had even warned us that the plates are more filling as you go down the menu. I'm not local, but if I go back at some point I would probably try the chicken - that looked great and Sean even mentioned it has one of his favorite sauces. For dessert we had the matcha tiramisu and the budino. Both were great, but I'll give the edge to the matcha tiramisu. Such flavor and such a unique approach to tiramisu! Bottom line - this is a place that goes above and beyond with respect to service, their food is outstanding, and the ambience is nice (if a little noisy and cramped). Will revisit in a heartbeat the next time I'm in Phoenix. read more

Drinks: They have really unique cocktails as well as a diverse wine list with we typically look for french and italian wine, they had solid options at a good price point that we would've ordered if we were in the mood for wine. can't remember what we got exactly but we were happy, they also do a great job of helping you order if you're feeling indecisive. Service: The staff is super friendly and helpful super patient with giving suggestions and super passionate about their craft and it really shows in the experience and through their food and drinks. Celebrating our anniversary, my husband and I opted for surf and turf. The beautifully seasoned tomahawk steak was grilled to perfection. The lobster was a giant beast of a shellfish, cooked in an amazing buttery sauce and topped with a splash of lemon juice, encapsulating everything we love about lobster. Served with a side of mashed potatoes and broccolini, it was all *chef's kiss*. My wife and swing by just after happy hour on a Friday without reservations. We were able to get seated immediately as they were not busy yet. We received a rundown on drinks, the menu and specials. Pretty Penny's take on an old fashioned was great with a mix of bourbon and scotch and fermented strawberry juice. The presentation was great with salted chocolate on the large cube. We enjoyed the oyster app, but the raw tuna sushi app was better. We also had the cauliflower and the La Prawn James entree which was spectacular. A huge shrimp in a red sauce with squid ink pasta. The service was super attentive while also being relaxed and welcoming. The guys on the line were great as well and happy to make recommendations. Started with the Brown Butter washed Paloma, some olives and the Octopus Tostadas which were out of this world. For the main I asked the line and they both suggested the half chicken with the Chinese broccolini, partnered this with the Red Apple Old Fashioned that was fat washed with sticky rice. We LOVED every aspect! Unique drinks are everywhere now, but these were so refreshing and delicious. Most things on the menu are shareable appetizer size, which allows you to try many things. Arm twisted-lamb ragu would rate as favorite, but honestly, everything was amazing. Even the Caesar salad is made with bonito and just different enough to make it outstanding. There are a few "dinner" size proteins if that's a preference. Ambience really adds to this place. It's intimate, warm and tastefully done. Service is impeccable-genuinely personal. FYPM "speakeasy" is a totally different "hip" vibe, but we enjoyed it equally as much-such fun, tasty drinks. The food comes from the restaurant so.... Wow! We had such an amazing and fun night here thanks to the incredible hospitality and food. The Prosecco they poured at the beginning was a wonderful, warm welcome and the passionfruit Negroni we kicked the night off with after was a revelation. As Negroni fans this was admirable twist and something we could drink again and again. We decided to take advantage of some of the specials and started with trout rillettes which is akin to a dip and was salty, silky and pretty much the perfect bite on the accompanying crackers. The other showstopper of the night was the tomahawk steak which was huge and absolutely worth every penny (even a pretty one : ) and then some. It was grilled to succulent perfection and the garlicky mashed potatoes and long beans that came on the side made for the perfect meal. Everyone we interacted with - including the chefs - was enthusiastic and warm and friendly, adding to our experience even more. This place totally rocks and the only complaint we have is that it isn't in our neighborhood. But we'll be back for sure . . . read more
