I/We spoke to a young man, who was short. He was extremely professional and knowledgeable of reptiles. I believe it might have been his day off, or his shift ended. But still took time out to speak to my son & I. The store was clean, had a plethora of predators and reptiles. Had a kitchen where they made food. Tons of supplies. It was one of the most beautiful stores for reptiles in the Phoenix Valley. They had quite a bit of staff that were all very busy. This is a really cool reptile store with a great variety of unique and fascinating animals. We enjoyed looking around and seeing species you don't usually get to see in person. The reason for my lower rating is solely based on how the axolotls were housed. I'm not an axolotl expert, but I have read that they can temporarily be kept in small containers as long as the water is changed daily. However, how long are they kept in these containers? That said, seeing them in small containers on shelves near insect and lizard food felt sad and uncomfortable. It reminded me of how betta fish are often displayed in big pet chain stores. From what I've learned, axolotls do best in individual aquarium tanks with cycled, filtered water. I understand that retail space and logistics can make that challenging. An employee did mention they move them once their tail reaches the end of the container, but I'm sure that meant they move them to a bigger container. The water did look clean, so I'm hoping they're receiving frequent full water changes. I truly don't mean this as an attack -- it just made me sad. I came here with family while visiting from California, so not sure if selling them this way is common since they're illegal to own in CA. They're such unique and delicate creatures, and I wish their setup reflected that a bit more. I hope this feedback is taken constructively, because overall it really is a neat store! read more

on april 23rd i stopped in to look at some of their selections. i noticed they had a chameleon gecko, which is something i've wanted for a long time! i decided to wait for a few days until i got paid, and if he was still there then it was meant to be. in the meantime i asked how often they chameleon geckos in, and was told they had a breeding pair that only laid one egg at a time, so not very often. i came back on april 28th and purchased him, some food, and a 12x12x12 enclosure. i asked if the enclosure was too big because he was so small, was told no it was perfect. then i asked which UVB he recommended, to which he said "i know nothing about geckos so idk". i should've just left then honestly. but i didn't. i took him home, got him set up, and the next morning found him on the floor of his enclosure, struggling to move. i immediately moved him to a smaller enclosure with branches, food, paper towels, and misted it with some water then asked a facebook group for chameleon gecko keepers and breeders what was wrong. they told me he was very young, like a few weeks likely, and that he was SEVERELY malnourished, dehydrated, and looked like he had gotten stuck in his shed. i put him in a hospital enclosure to monitor his eating and figured i'd call predators back in the morning. well he died during the night. he was too malnourished and neglected to survive, and ended up dying during the night. i called predators crying telling them he had died and i wanted a refund, but more importantly i wanted ANSWERS as to how they were neglecting a living thing so severely he couldn't even poop, he couldn't eat, and couldn't get around easily. they took my information and had the owner call me. he said the chameleon gecko was 6 months old, imported from germany. which entirely contradicted what i was told in the store. he was also way too small to be 6 months old. he weighed less than one gram. so either he's lying about the age, he's confused, or they neglected him so horribly that he wasn't even growing correctly. looking at photos of him next to photos of other chameleon geckos, it was clear he was SEVERELY neglected. they agreed to give me a refund for the lizard that died (which is the least they could do) but i'll never give them my money again. if they're neglecting one animal, they're neglecting more than that. plus the contradictory info on the phone about how old he was and his care makes me not want to recommend anyone to go here. read more

I have been to this store multiple times. almost everytime, have had a negative experience with the manager. But this store had great animals so decided to come back. happened to be there for the Black Friday sale today. there were maybe 6 or so people waiting in line and I was walking around and happened to hear the manager go in the back and yell at the employees working something along the lines of 'get your fucking ass in the front now!' I will never understand having someone so unkind run the store. and that is not the kind of store I want to support anymore. Great selection of animals, but I will never be back again. read more

Nice shop, mostly nice staff. If you go for feeders, go somewhere else. Prices are expensive and guy with buz cut JIPPS you on crickets. Will write 30 on the bag and only put 20 inside. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE FOR FEEDERS $4 for 2 dozen crickets is crazy and for them to give you less than you pay for is a scam. read more

I went in with my Granddaughter and they couldn't have been kinder! They even helped research the little lizard she found in her back yard and gave great guidance and direction on how to feed and house it. I cannot say enough good things about this place! I have yet to find another Reptile store that has the knowledge that Predators Reptile does. They truly care about the animals and I can count on them to give accurate care information. There is a ton of misinformation online regarding care for bearded dragons and everyone that I have talked to at Predators is highly knowledgeable and excited to share their vast knowledge. They have held my hand through the whole process with my 6 month old beardie. I highly recommend this place over any store. I live in North Scottsdale and have other shops closer, but I choose to make the drive to Mesa because this place is the simply put the best. We were told by someone at Aquarium Arts that Predators might have a baby Flowerhorn which we have been looking for. The building was easy to find and had so much stuff! Their walls are covered floor to ceiling with beautiful little creatures for purchase. They also have a porcupine!! It was in its own little play pen area and friendly. They also had hedgehogs and sugar gliders. Super cute. They have frozen feed as well in a freezer in the back. Their animals were all really well taken care of and the employees were SO helpful and friendly. We will definitely will be purchasing our Flowerhorn from here when our tank is cycled for it! read more

After sudden discovered love for reptiles in snakes in particular, and the persistence of my teen daughter I agreed to get more info. I needed to find out everything I need to know about owning one, as most likely I will be the one to take care of it! After visiting many different shops around my area, I found Predator's Reptile Center. I came in essentially looking for a particular snake (the smallest I can find info on) and by doing so fell absolutely in love with one of it's larger cousins! With that being said - I now have to have one! The staff is knowledgeable and so nice. Everyone took so much time to explain everything and go over all the details of what I will need for a perfect selection of the type of the snake that would be right for first time owners and everything else that comes along with the terrarium, food and overall care. They also have several different type of reptiles and other pets. Everything from spiders, lizards, snakes, axolotls to sugar gliders and ferrets. I'm very happy I found this shop and will definitely update once I get my new pet. read more

The location on Yelp is for their old location which is now their sister store and their new location is behind this one and to the left a bit (but you can't get through the parking lot directly, you have to go out of the parking area from their old location and immediately turn back in). My husband and I came here yesterday for the first time, the staff that was checking people out was not very friendly. She didn't greet us when we walked up or asked if we were ready, she actually kept talking to someone who had finished checking out. The guy we spoke to initially was great, he was nice and informative but didn't push us. He mentioned another gals name that heard him saying it, then she jumped in the conversation about a specific reptile which honestly annoyed me a bit. They breed with this larger location which is cool because they have food available, bins of wood for the terrariums, etc. I personally found it odd that they had a ferret and some other warm blooded animals mixed with cold blooded ones, just seemed weird honestly. Especially because it's "Predators Reptile Center". We would probably come back to get supplies, but knowing that the CS probably won't be great. read more

They are super friendly and will go out of their way to help out customers. The pricing is fairly decent & what a large array of pets, creatures & critters. I have friend that tax return decided she want d get an snake she was on the fence about and a person I know looking for a very red bearded dragon which they were going to go to Desert Reptile Center. I decided to redirect them to predator and OMG I got girl OMG they have so much. I got girl I bought a bearded dragon and she bought so much this bearded dragons home is nicer then hers. I recently and unexpectedly became the brand new owner of a small box turtle after one stumbled into my backyard. After getting the confirmation from a herpetological society that I couldn't release it back into the wild, I went browsing at Petsmart but couldn't find anything very substantial for turtles. A Yelp search subsequently directed me to Predator's Reptile Center. The shop is small-ish, but they pack a lot in the space they have. They have an entire wall of various reptiles, and various terrariums, accessories, and food for your cold blooded friend. I picked up some box turtle food, a food dish, log burrow, and calcium block. Prices are reasonable and cheaper than what I saw at Petsmart for the exact same product. Service was excellent. You can tell the employees and owner put a lot of care into the shop and everyone here was very helpful and friendly. read more

I've been coming here for over a year and every time it never disappoints. The staff is very knowledgeable, and if they are new give them a break, they are learning while on the job and not many people can do that. Whenever I have a question in regards to care of my snake, I either get transferred to someone with the knowledge or the person on the phone knows how to answer. Today I had the pleasure of talking to Nick. He was very honest with his personal experience with snake food and this is why I always turn to this establishment when a different place gives me whack answers. This is one of the best reptile centers we've been to. The staff here is amazing, very friendly/welcoming & outgoing. They definitely know what they're doing here & every person we spoke to held lots of knowledge. The staff seems to pay great attention to the overall care of the reptiles & the cleanliness of the store itself. All of the enclosures were kept very clean & the reptiles that were actively roaming their habitats seemed healthy/happy. The store also seems to carry lots of items that we haven't seen at other stores which is great & the pricing here is very reasonable for what you get. This store has great customer incentives & the staff will definitely take care of you. I have been to the old store before they moved locations but this was our first time returning in a while since the move & I must say, we did not regret it. We will continue being returning customers & spreading the word. Also, special shoutout to "Maddie" (hope i spelled that correctly) she was AMAZING & part of the reason our visit felt so personal. My kids love to learn about reptiles & Maddie definitely encouraged it. She gave them stickers & let them interact with the northern blue tongued skinks there, which was originally the sole purpose of our visit- aside from picking up some feeders. I love this exotics store! I've gone here for years and they are always incredibly knowledgeable. I'm not sure the employees names but a lady with dark hair and a tall man always help me and are the best! The same woman also helped me pick out my piebald ball python about four years ago. A quick note on my experience here.... I have reptiles and in my home we feed live prey. each and every time we have gone to pick up feeders, or any other supply that we are in need of they have (every time we have been to their store)helped us with speed and courtesy and vast knowledge on all reptiles! very warm and very much a family environment where kids can oooh, and ahhhh with everything they have in their store. they take the time (even when they are slammed busy) to speak with you and get you informed and understanding on any given thing in their store from speaking with a child about what a certain reptile likes to eat and how to feed, to precise instructions to the parent on exactly what the living conditions and feeding habits are and ambient temperatures to be sure the thriving survival of any reptile, wether sold there or not. They have periodicals to match up to a species of lizards or snakes or bearded dragons and lots of others, not to mention all of the vast other types of reptiles they have. I have been to a lot of reptile shops in life, as i have owned loved ( still love) and lost naturally and otherwise. This place Predators Reptile Center always takes the time to treat you like family. they take very good care of the store and whats inside of it. I haighly recommend this place to anyone and I have sent them friends and family without knowing me or whom sent them and always , always get treated professionally and like family in most cases. heading there today to see if i can get a reptile rescued, or possible recommendations.
