I was excited to see this store while in Mesa. The smell hits you from the parking lot well before you open the door. The animals are being kept in very poor conditions. Just went here and terrible condition of pets. Owner slammed the counter and told the younger gentlemen (who was awesome and super helpful) not to help his customer when he was just running around with stacks of paper. I walked in said I needed a pinky mouse and then after admiring the reptiles someone else came in and he starts yelling "you better have f'ing cash. Since the machine is down" I walked out because WHAT?! I was in there a bit and he never said anything about the machine until someone else walked in asking for something. One star only because of the poor dude dealing with that crazy man. read more

The animals aren't in the greatest conditions with multiple big snakes needing better enclosures substrate and multiple hides were there are large lizards with huge amounts of space. The animals enclosures varied greatly with each one either having plenty of room or none. Some enclosures were empty and could've been used for the animals that were in FAR too small of cages. Wont be coming back was honestly sad to see all around. read more

We were in the neighborhood and decided to stop in and show my 4 year old some cool reptiles. We learned it's under new ownership. Very friendly owner and staff. They showed some cool things to my son. I'm not completely versed in all the food options fhey had, as I wasn't shopping but from what they said the place was quite low on stop a few months ago in comparison to what they have currently. They have some awesome bearded dragons babies available. I don't recall all the morphs but do recall seeing leatherback. The huge snake and iguana did convey so those house pets are still there. read more

If you need reptile services and info, this is 1000% the place to go! I recently tried to rescue 2 snakes, today I realized I was out of my element when one of them got loose from their tank. I called every rescue place imaginable and no one would answer or help us same day. These guy answered their phone and was soo quick to respond to my emergency. They don't even do rescues, but they were here in minutes and very professional. True heroes haha. I'm soo happy to know that he's in good hands now and taken care of read more

As I child, I would always come to Arizona Reptile Center. I remember being fascinated by the wide variety of lizards, snakes, and even gross things like scorpion and tarantulas (ICK). Now that I'm a responsible adult, I felt ready to buy my first reptile. I had many growing up, but it had been a while. The employee that helped me out was very attentive to my needs and answered all my questions. Even when he got busy with other customers or phone calls, he would promptly return to assist me. I really wanted a bearded dragon but didn't know if a baby was the right decision for me. The employee made a recommendation- buy an adult. I literally had never thought of that and they happened to have a beautiful 3 year old beardie for sale. I was nervous about his demeanor, was he socialized? The put my nerves at ease, the employee got him out of his enclosure and let me hold him which immediately answered my question. I put the dragon on hold and left the store to think about it and not make an impromptu decision. An hour later, I pulled the trigger and told him to pack up the beardie, that I was coming back to take him home. Now this is the part that broke my heart, this beautiful reptile was put in.... a take out container. He couldn't move and when I asked about it I didn't really get a great response. What do they do for larger reptiles? I was anxious to get him home ASAP. It's been two weeks since then and he's acclimated well to his new home. Word of advice to potential buyers, you might want to consider having something ready for transport unless you don't care if you reptile goes home in a take out container. read more

I recently bought my first beardie and ARC is my go-to spot for feeders and advice. The feeders I've bought (roaches, crickets, worms) have all been great quality and I rarely have any die prior to feeding, which has not been the case with other shops. They also have a great selection of vivarium accessories, so as I begin to upgrade my guy to a bigger tank I'll be buying everything at ARC. I love the flexibility of their hours! I work in Phoenix and live in Tempe and they are the only shop nearby that is open between 7:00-8:00pm which is a tremendous help for me. My beardie is a growing boy and some weeks I just don't know how much he is going to eat and have to make a feeder stop after work! Everyone that works there is supremely kind and helpful and are patient when listening to any of my concerns or ridiculously random questions. I highly recommend shopping here! read more

About a month ago, we purchased our first bearded dragon--which was about 8 weeks old at the time. We had done months of research trying to understand how to raise these amazing lizards. After a couple of days, our beardie was kind of lethargic and not eating any of the different foods we would try (roaches, crickets, meal worms, kale, etc.). Here's why ARC gets a 5-Star review...we live in Tennessee (from AZ) and did not purchase our beardie from ARC. After finding ARC on Yelp, I made a call to see if the team could offer any helpful advice (the place we purchased wasn't offering much help). I think it was Jake who helped us, and he walked us through some tips. We followed his advice to the letter and sure enough, after 7 days, our beardie was eating crickets and roaches, he was exploring his terrarium high and low, and even looked healthier. Needless to say, our family was beyond excited to know that our beardie was going to be okay. Thanks to the advice of Jake and ARC, we have a healthy beardie our whole family loves. I don't normally go in reptile shops. I had baby garter snakes when I was a little girl along with my big brother but otherwise reptiles are not my favorite creature. My husband also owned Turtles for a while and I got to like them and was able to watch them eat. The only reason I went in this store was because my daughter needed worms for her Gecko and I was over it Mekong Center pretty close to here so she asked me if I could stop by to get $2 worth. The gecko doesn't eat much so $2 worth last a couple of weeks from what I understand. The clerk handed me a ziplock bag with the worms and I hesitated. He asked me if I would rather have it in a paper bag and I said yes please. I delivered them post haste. I did take a look around out of curiosity and trucks down a gecko just to see what they look like. She just loves her gecko. I decided I prefer kittens and puppies, but if I had a reptile and lived near here I'm sure I would be a regular customer. read more

Bought a Crestie from there. They guys were nice seemed to know what they were doing, but I know no better. Sad to see she is not very healthy, has parasites, hopefully a common otc will work, her intestines are blocked, the roof of her mouth is black, one eye is swollen its bigger than the other. She was very hungry the first time i offered her food she hogged it down, the new ones never want to eat at first, so i question on that. Also I question if those tiny spots left in the cup where mites, I am now seeing black dots on the plant leaves in her home. We bought her on our way home, we do not live in AZ, I cant bring her back, even if i could I remember seeing a sign above the register saying "all sales are final". Not a single front of the house worker wore a mask. That's personal choice I guess but they even encouraged customers to take their masks off. I had called ahead to check if they had medium rats in stock and when I got there (10 min later) they had none. Try Predator Reptile for more knowledgeable staff. read more

This place is a must see if you or your children are even remotely into reptiles/exotic pets. I went in for calcium and a water bowl for my Sulcata. Jon is super friendly and knowledgeable. He gave me some great ideas for warming and sheltering my tortoise. Given the tortoise is my size, only someone who really has one understands the temperament and habitat needs in our weather. Not only do they have a great selection of the cutest reptiles you've ever seen, but they have a tremendous array of experience helping these guys thrive in Arizona. This place is exactly what the name entails. It is a reptile store. They seemed to have a large selection of slithering animals. We went here because we thought our 2 year old daughter would like to look at the snakes. There was a snake that was 200 lbs. Apparently it's 18 years old and hugeeeee. Needless to say she had a blast. The employees were nice and friendly. I would never buy a reptile so IDK if this is a good spot for buying a slithery friend, however this is a fun place to stop in with your kids and spend 10 or so minutes looking at the snakes. read more

I really enjoyed coming to this place after I had found it about 2-3 years ago. They had a decent selection of different reptiles and insects that you could buy from. My main purpose of coming here was to get live feeder rats for my ball python and I never was disappointed up until recently. The past three times I have gone for my feeders, they have given me smaller rats than what they were showing me but charging me the same price for a larger rat. I've noticed that the staff have changed quite frequently recently every time I have gone and I'm not sure if that's the issue but I've decided to take my business else where since this is quite a distance for me to drive only to not get what I'm paying for. read more

We bought our first bearded dragons here four years ago. The beardies have done great and are part of our family. We stopped in Sunday to pick up a feeder rat for Max, our 11 year old ball python. We ended up leaving with a lot of other items. What a great place to shop! Kyle gave us a discount since we bought quite a bit and is very knowledgeable. This is probably the best pet store (for reptiles) in the Phoenix area. They have a large selection of reptiles including snakes, lizards and tortoises. They breed their own sulcatas and bearded dragons and have just about any type of feeder insect you could want (crickets, roaches, worms...). They also have some NFS animals on display that are beautiful. These include a giant Burmese python, a Rhinoceros Iguana and a really fat frog. Such a disappointment! John was really nice the entire time he sold me a misrepresented snake. Almost 3 years ago I purchased a snake from them that had "guaranteed" genetics. I have purchased feeders from them many times all along feeding her to grow her up to breed. As it turns out she doesn't carry the genetics that they promised. Their resolution was to buy her back. No compensation for 3 years of rats that they profited, not to replace her with an equal quality animal with proper genetics and I even offered them some of her babies to help offset their exposure. They said to sue them if I didn't like it:( I am concerned that they wouldn't stand behind their "guarantee" better than that. I believe they are responsible to provide me the animal they sold me that is of equal size and quality. How is that not fair? And I offered them less than that and they told me to hit the road. Buyer beware with this place! Smiles and BS is still BS! I have found that Predators, just down the road, offers honest help and they understand the small guy that enjoys reptiles as pets. Pass on this ARC and go to Predators! read more

This place deserves all the stars, I've been coming for about two months for rats for a breeding project and they are all so willing to work with me and look through all the bins for what I need- Kyle(I believe that's his name) is the homie and will make sure you get exactly what you want, but all of the staff is super accommodating and the store is kept really clean and organized. This is the only store I will go to for feeders anymore because everywhere else is kindof gross and unprofessional. even thinking about a few snakes from here soon- highly recommend them! read more

It looks like a dump, but it really isn't. Tons of way cool herps here! There is a snake in this store that's bigger than a grown man. All the herps looks healthy and well taken care of. Even the damn hissing cockroaches look cheerful. They sell lighting, decorations, aquariums, starter kits, bowls, supplements and feeders (mice, worms and crickets.) Average customer service, but the guys here really know their stuff. The stores downfall = a bit more expensive than other places..... but you get what you pay for. read more

First off I would give it zero if I could. My boyfriend and i haven't been here in a few years but decided to check it out, and wished we hadn't wasted our time. The living situation for all most of the animals is disgusting. One crested gecko's glass tank was covered in poop and urates. It looks like nothing has been cleaned for a long time. The customer service was terrible. No one said anything to us the 5 minutes we were in there, an employee even walked right by us without acknowledging us, and we were the only ones in there. Compared to how it was a few years ago, it's horrible. Definitely will stick to our normal shop. read more

I recently received a Brachypelma Smithi (Tarantula) as a gift, and came here to get some questions answered. I was delighted when I stepped in-they had a very large variety of animals, from invertebrates to reptiles-many of the questions I had they were able to answer easily, and they made me feel very comfortable in asking what could be considered stupid questions. I left with six very small crickets, and that night, and my BS ate four! Previously it did not eat since I've had it (a week and one day). It ate a fifth one later that morning. The gentlemen I talked to are experts. I also noticed how active all the reptiles were-it gave me the impression that these animals are well treated and cared for. I will definitely be returning again, and soon-I need more food. read more

GO HERE for all your reptile needs. I can't say enough about this place. The manager, owner, and staff are some of the most friendly and knowledgeable reptile enthusiasts I have ever met! I was wanting to get a ball python for a while and had looked around at a few local stores and this one was by far the best with helpfulness, pricing, selection, etc. Everything was great here. I ended up purchasing a male mohave ball python baby and tank/supplies from them and so far my little guy is happy and healthy and active. Ben was so friendly and full of information, I will not be going to any other reptile store.
