As others have said, I used to enjoy going through the warehouse, & comparing products. Grooming tools need to be touched to determine what is most comfortable for both the pet & for the groomer!! There was a particular (expensive) brush I was interested in, but wanted to feel the bristles before committing to paying $50-ish. The brush was in stock, but not "in the showroom". I was told that I had to do the whole account creation process before they could even bring one out of the warehouse for me to touch. That is just absurd! I just love this place. How often do you get to walk the warehouse on the shipping end? Ryan's has a great catalog, and they are also nice enough to let you shop in person. It's so much fun to wander around the aisles. The staff is incredibly helpful and always help you find your way back if you get lost. :) I bought an XXL airline dog crate there that was 1/3 of the cheapest price I could find anywhere else online! I'm over this place. Went in today for a clipper blade. The lady needed my phone number, name, address, email to create an account. Because she had to place an order to go and grab it from the back warehouse. Like I just wanted to buy something. What you need all my information for just for me to buy something in store? Why don't you create a front of store account for when people wanna buy something in store that you keep in the warehouse? So I left and bought it on Amazon for the same price. Since they already had all my info anyways. 2nd thing. The sharpening area is garbage. I had to go find another place. Last time I took my stuff in earlier in the year the guy told me "we have a hard time with wahl ultimate blades". Ive been using those for years and every time I take them in 2-3 have to be brought back because they jam up. So this man told me they have difficulty sharpening the brand of blades I like which means they've been having difficulty for years with them and charging me full price. So I ask him if he could recommend another sharpener since they have trouble with wahl ultimate blades. He says no he doesn't know anyone else. I told him "man when Leo worked here I didn't have any problems but he left and moved too far for me to follow". He tells me he has Leo's number. I thought you just said you don't know any other sharpeners?!?! Anyways I found a mobile sharpener. He's been coming around for me and my staffs stuff for now. Oh and that pick up order will be ready in 2 hours or 4 hours. Whichever it is. They never hold up to that. They just make you wait when you come in and fill the order then. The excuse at this place for everything is the computers don't work. It took me over 45 mins on the phone and then physically coming into the store to get a double charge refunded. All the employees seemed to think it was funny. The male on the phone who was smirking when I came in. As he knew it was me when I told him I'd be walking in immediately since he wouldn't help me. The woman on register 4, I think her name Vanessa is rude and snide. She was the same way on the day she double charged me and when I returned for my refund. I've been a customer here for several years. Fantastic shopping option versus PetsMart, PetCo, Pet Club, or any of the other pet store options where you get riipp,er......to leave with empty pockets. Granted you can NOT purchase pet food here, I don't believe they have cat litter, and they don't sell Pinkees either, but treats are available and the selection is fairly good. Pet shampoos, tools of various types for trimming nails, leashes, collars, harnesses (do you really know what a harness is for?), tons of great toys for destuffing, chasing, snuggling, or gifting. Stimulation games too. Urns for your beloved pets cremains that come in various sizes. Did I mention nutritional supplements? Books on grooming. Oh yeah, and grooming tables, tubs, and all of those ridiculous accessories (bows, nail polish, hair color -OMG, just makes me RME) for those froo froo doggies. Hey, I'm sorry, but that's just not my thing. Their price on crates will cause you to roll your eyes at what people on craigslist charge for a used crate. And if you already purchased a crate from, say PetsMart, well you'll probably choke on the thought of what you paid and, --oh well I suppose that's enough. Now before your eyes glaze over from the joy of saving some bucks AND getting lots of great things for your heart dog -or cat, be aware that this is a WAREHOUSE. There really isn't customer service here folks. If you found this place, drove here, and have money to spend on your pet I really want to believe you can at least try to find what you're looking for. If not, there are employees wandering around, stocking shelves, filling orders, pulling merchandise, etc. and they are always willing to direct you to where a product would be and if needed, help you get it off the shelf, to the register to pay, and then loaded into your car. This is not a place to bring snookums to pick out a toy, but you can bring your pet with you to shop. Just be aware there may be others with pets and not all are friendly, so listen to your pet and do NOT play that card "snookums wants to say HI! to your dog" cuz it's just not cool and you really don't want to embarrass your pet. Last thing. You are not allowed to carry anything into the warehouse. No backpacks, purses, nada. I suspect it's just easier to prevent products from accidentally slipping into these such things. I purchased a product online, and received my confirmation email with a link to check order status. The link doesn't work, so I called. To make a long story short, I have called 7 times. I have been told the only person that can help wasn't there and was given a specific time to call them back. When I called them back at the time I was given I was told they would be there at another time and to call back then which I did but was told the same thing yet again. I was hung up on once, put on hold for a half hour once, told someone would call me back two times which never happened. I love this place so much! I have been going here since I got my first dog 7 years ago. The employees are super friendly and always helpful. They have anything and everything you can imagine and it's fun wandering around looking for new goodies for my pups! I basically go when I need a large amount of things otherwise it is sort of out of the way for me to go for one item. A few things to keep in mind.. 1-This is a warehouse so it's not like a normal pet store. They have isles of items that are kept in boxes. It's pretty easy to find things but if not someone will always help you. 2-You cannot bring a purse or large bag in with you so leave in your car or they will keep it upfront for you. 3-Since it is a warehouse they do not have A/C or heat so keep in mind when you go what time of year it is. 4-I THINK they still have a spend limit of $30 or $50 unless it's changed since the last time I have been there. read more

I have used Ryan's Pet for the last 13 years. They have always been ok. This past year has by far been the worst! My last 3 orders have been a disaster. I ordered 2 gallons of shampoo and after 2 weeks of waiting for it, I arrived to my doorstep to find 3 large boxes filled with 9 gallons of blueberry facial, which I have never ordered. When I called to get it fixed they were out of stock on both of the shampoos I originally ordered and PAID for. It took them another 2 weeks to deliver a new order. My next order was wrong again and the bottles were not even sealed. My most recent order that I had purchased through Blackworks, not knowing that it goes through Ryan's, was placed on October 1st. It is now October 30th and I still have not received it. It was taken out of my bank account and I have not received a single response from my multiple messages asking where my order is. Every time I call I am put on hold for way too long and do not have the time to sit on my phone waiting for someone to give a crap! I guess I won't be using Blackworks now either. Ryans was once THE place to go to for the best deals on anything related to grooming, raising dogs or showing dogs. Sadly, this fantastic 'mom & pop" place was sold to and is now run by a bunch of idiots. They no longer have equipment for dog shows, or animal husbandry, which is fine as many places change out inventory. They are carrying some decent show product lines now, but the prices are not typical of Ryans. The original owner is probably rolling over in his grave. The warehouse closed to the general public during covid, but here in AZ, businesses have been open for months. Well, not Ryans. They still make things difficult and not allow people into the warehouse. People would probably spend more money when allowed to "shop" the aisles. Purchasing is online or phone ordering only. Many of their items dont show up on their website when searching unless you have an exact name, so a paper catalog is probably your best bet. Their prices used to be very competitive but now it seems like the prices increase with every order. Average wait time to get your order is roughly 30 minutes, sometimes longer. Yes, you can order a week in advance and still have to wait endlessly to get your order. Most times, you can guarantee that the cashier will have to go to the back to try to "find" your order and something will always be missing. Their cash registers seem to take forever for the staff to find your orders or ring things up. There seems to be plenty or employees in the facility, but not a lot of hustle. Backordered products? CONSTANTLY. Its like they dont understand how to order product or inventory the warehouse anymore. In 25 years of going to Ryans, it was RARE to have stock unavailable, but now its just the norm. Sometimes you have to wait months for your favorite products. While I will probably always use Ryans as my go to supplier due to the location, I keep hoping that they go back to the efficient and excellent service they once provided. read more

So, I actually really like RPS... BUT what I don't like is the brown haired scruffy-bearded guy who sits at the center desk in the front row by the cash registers. Why, you ask? I stopped by last Friday morning, and the only other cashier was ringing up another customer. I was patiently waiting to have my purse checked in (you have to check in all bags at the front first).... and Mr. Center Desk was busy lint rolling his jeans. And it's not like his back was turned to me, but he was facing me, made eye contact with me, and kept lint rolling his jeans. No "I'll be with you in a minute" or other such acknowledgment. Just eye contact while continuing to lint roll. his. JEANS. FINALLY after I waited for several minutes, the other cashier was finished and she checked in my purse. And Mr. Center Desk is again, sitting at his desk playing with a dog toy. Facing the checkout desk - so again, it's not like he didn't see me. No fancy shmancy shelves here, just bare bones metal racks filled with a ton of various products for your pets. But of course if you wanted nice racks you'd gone to Petco, no? (Or perhaps Barcelona, but its a different story outright) So, anyhow. Stuff there is about 40-60% less then local pet store and they do have a large inventory. Only crappy thing is that they do not have each item labeled with price and you have to rampage through free catalog to figure it out or be like me and say "Fuck it! If you have a dog or cat, this gem is your new store. I'd planned to get a dog, and stopped by here one afternoon. The place is HUGE and it is a warehouse...no frills here. Before you walk through the double doors to the pet supply overload, they give you a copy of the most recent Ryan's catalog as well as a map. Ladies: take only a wallet. If you bring a purse, you have to leave it in a locker out front before shopping. I bought an ortho dog bed, another bed for the crate, a travel harness, a couple collars and leashes, a large dog feeder, poop bags, and numerous toys. And you know what? Ryan's was absolutely great to work with a couple weeks later when I decided not to get the dog, and brought all this stuff BACK (unused, of course). The employees were very helpful: I was offered assistance several times while shopping. They're busy working pulling orders and/or stocking the shelves, but they do offer assistance to the shoppers. If you have a dog or cat, it's well worth taking a little time off work to do your pet shopping here. The prices cannot be beat, and they have great selection. It is a large warehouse filled with almost anything you would want for a pet. Next thing you may notice is the price. KYou will find most is about half what you would pay in a regular pet store. As you look around finding items are sometimes hard unless you have been there several times. Even then you may have problems. But not a problem. The third thing you may notice is some for the people are pickers. Filling orders for pet stores. They have always been very happy to direct you to the items I am looking for. Number 4 thing you should notice is the people from entering to exiting and paying is the people. These are the nicest people you could wish to meet. We don't order ahead of time as we like to search through the catalog and ask questions while we are there. Jay and Vanessa are by FAR the only people we use for customer service and checking out. These two are amazing at their jobs. They notice us and call us by name, are always extremely helpful and up sale the crap out of us!!!! As well as grab us waters when we wait.. I mean A+ customer service. My dad has a bad back and can't always stand for long periods of time- they let him use one of the employee fold out chairs with no questions asked. It's amazing how much these two love their jobs. Give them a RAISE OR BONUS OR WHATEVER THEY NEED BECAUSE IF IT WASNT FOR THEM WE PROBABLY WOULDNT COME SO OFTEN!!! Picture an amazon store but for puppies and not online! Perfect warehouse to stock up on toys, bones (if it's your thing), leashes/collars and everything else a pup needs. Located in a strip mall off McDowell and 18st it's really easy to miss if you aren't looking for it. Everyone mentions not great customer service, my experience was fine. I was greeted when I walked in by 1 of the 3 cashiers and when I got back into the warehouse a guy asked if I was looking for anything in particular ( as I was so that cut down some time). The aisles aren't labeled and if they are I missed it so you have to walk down every aisle to see what they have. They have rawhide bones, kennels, play pens, dog mats, collars, every type of toy you can imagine. Prices were cheaper then target, petsmart but maybe similar to amazon. A few toys I saw that I had bought off amazon already were within a 0.50 price range so not too much savings. All in all I bought I choke collar, two nylabones and a Kong frisbee thing for under $25! read more

Only order from here if you are 100% for sure you want the item you receive. I ordered a pair of Wahl clippers a few months ago and they literally started falling apart. The switch would not turn OFF and would only stay ON, the speeds would change back and forth from the low to high setting in the middle of grooming a dog, the blade lock never locks into place, and the Bravura Mini clippers it came with never cut even after doing a complete cleaning and having them serviced by my sharpener and clipper repair person. I understand that Ryan's has a 30 return policy but the clippers were fine for the first month like any other clippers. I tried calling Ryan's today to discuss exchanging them for at least some credit to buy a different set of clippers and the associate Monica in returns was cold and rude to me saying my only option is to repair them and that I am basically at a loss to get anything from them to resolve the issue. Monica showed no signs of even acceptable customer service and didn't even bother to look up my account and consult with another associate or supervisor to assist me. If these clippers are already falling apart and malfunctioning after only a few months, why would I want to repair the and continue to use them? All I want is to return them and replace them with a different set of clippers. I have been grooming for over 10 years and have used all brands of clippers and have never had an issue with this particular brand, which is why I ordered them. read more

I needed a better way to groom my cats. I was referred to Ryan's Pet Supplies by The Cat Clinic in Scottsdale, AZ. I went to Pet Smart ( which was much closer) however I wasn't blown away by the selection or the help from the staff. I wanted clippers that would last, not be too loud, with well made blades; in short, something a pro groomer would use. Today I drove much further to Ryan's Pets. It was worth it. I encountered a wonderful person named Kim. I cannot thank her enough for all of her help and patience! The level of service she provided so impressed me and I was truly grateful for all of her help. On her recommendation I purchase a Wahl professional clipper. I have no hesitation in recommending Ryan's Pet Supplies and will be back for all of my cats needs. If anyone does take my recommendation please ask for Kim, especially if you are as unsure of the best tools for what you need as I was. Wow! Visiting Ryan's was quite an experience. This is a working warehouse as mentioned in many other reviews. The staff packing orders are typically busy running around to get this item and that, but there were a few staff members walking around that asked if they could help us find anything, etc. Friendly enough for sure. I had so much walking through each aisle, perusing all of the different items they have on stock. I spent over their $25 minimum easily. We got a harness, some grade A sweet potato treats, a medium kong frisbee, small teaching treats, and a maze bowl for a very, very fair price. Can't believe I haven't heard of this place sooner than I did. I have recommend and will continue to recommend as far as I know. read more

Our credit card was used fraudulently at this business, but instead of reversing the charges, Ryan's charged us shipping fees. Someone created an account at Ryan's using my credit card number, but without the correct address, phone, or card verification number. Despite this, Ryan's still let the charges go thru. After we called, they told us that they had issues with fraudulent charges. After a month, they finally reversed the charge, minus shipping fees! So, after they failed to follow proper credit card verification policy, acknowledged that my card was used criminally... they charge me for shipping fees. Just avoid, this business has dishonest practices and has major security issues. read more

Ryan's Pet supplies has it all, and is essentially the canine version of Disneyland. When I first got my four-legged BFF, I was given a tip that there was a place that had dog gear nearly thirty percent less than the typical stores. The store is centrally located on McDowell Road, and while the area is not exactly DC Ranch, you are not in the ghetto, and you will be perfectly safe even if you don't own an AR-15. It is really important to note that Ryan's is set up as an internet order place, NOT as a retail store. This explains why the business does a few things differently than regular retail. Purses/bags either need to be left in your car, or the store will lock them up in the front. I recommend you bring your purse/bag inside, the staff is cool, and they will lock it up for you. While this may be an inconvenience , the price difference will easily make up for any hiccups. The second tip that will save you time/energy is to know what you wish to purchase, and know how much it will cost. As mentioned before, it is a warehouse, and items are not labeled with price, it's a huge warehouse setup. They have catalogs all over the place to check prices, but my recommendation is to bring your catalog with pages marked of the stuff you want. The staff is super friendly, and will help you with where things are at. It's not always easy to know who works there, but you will figure it out, they're usually pushing metal carts, basically fulfilling online orders by pulling merchandise from the bins. While you're here, you will find toys, brushes, shampoos, snacks, you name it! The prices are very very good, and you will be happily surprised at the difference between the other guys and Ryan's. Don't miss the kong squeaky toy line, they have fun squeaky toys that are hard to break. Also, the fleecy rope toys are great for dogs teeth, and keep them fresh and so clean clean. Avoid any rope toys, they can break down and when dogs eat them, they can do big time damage to stomach, GI etc. Happy shopping, and lastly you CAN bring in your dog and have a helper while you shop. read more

Their hours aren't the greatest (M-F), the neighborhood looks a bit rough, the place isn't the fanciest, but who cares. I usually find myself here a couple of times a year to up my supplies on some staples. For my generic, day to day brushes, their prices can't be beat. Also, and my favorite part, is their sharpening/repair department. For the most part, they've been able to fix what I've brought them, make it sharper, or be honest why something can't be fixed. The only disappointment, which wasn't their fault, was when they couldn't get replacement parts for my 20 year old Double K Challengair 9000. The staff in the warehouse have always been professional, helpful, and polite every time I've gone. While they don't carry many of the products I use for my show dogs, they do carry one of my favorites, and harder to find product lines, Coat Handler. I'm also a big fan of their grooming tables. Their electric low-low super electric table was a big splurge, and worth every penny. That thing easily handles any thing I put on it. The thoughtful details they put into their tables is appreciated, especially when one spends hours, upon hours weekly working on them. Hints when shopping here: take your catalog with you. This place is a working warehouse and their primary goal is to not have price tags on everything. They do a good job, but if you need to know prices, or bulk discounts right away, look in the catalog. It can get hot in the warehouse in the summer, be prepared. If you are bringing a bunch of blades or shears to be sharpened same day, give them a couple days notice. They will do what they can, but can't promise they can get it all done the same day. I told Gary in shipping that I understand I qualify for free shipping but that I need my order quickly and seeming that it was the holidays, I would be glad to pay the fee. He said I didn't need to do that and my order would arrive the next day. I felt uneasy about this and called back the next day to get an update on my package, which I ended up finding out I wouldn't be getting until the 4th. I told them this was a mistake and they sent me to the manager, Kurt. Kurt ended up returning my original package to sender and making a whole new order for me, I just had to pay $36 for the shipping. I thought everything was all said and done except they accidentally refunded my account, so yet again another mistake. They waited an entire month after I purchased my equipment to send me a letter in the mail asking for their money back. I'm all about integrity, so I called Kurt back and told him I was very upset by this entire thing, especially since he set this whole thing up. First my shipping error, now this. I told him the money got taken out of my account by mistake and asked if I could pay payments. He said I could and to just call back towards the end of the month and we'll work something out (which I was fine with). This entire thing bothered me so much, I decided to speak to the owner named David. I explained what happened in an email and he called me the next day, but before I could even respond, he took a $400 lump sum out of my account after I was told I could do payments and before I even authorized it. He pretty much told me because I got my equipment on time, I still owed them despite their mistakes. He wasn't willing to give me a discount and best of all, I was informed I could not do payments like I was told. The owner of this company was a completely greedy business owner. It's sad because I thought they were a good, honest company. I will never order from this company again. It takes a lot to keep the well-oiled machine that is Horse Dog (aka my pet great dane) running smoothly. Horse Dog goes though dog beds about every month or so, and he requires state-of-the-art industrial toys, as he can destroy anything (including tires, couch cushions or shoes) in a matter of seconds. Just when I thought that Horse Dog was also going to consume my wallet as a result of his high-priced needs, I drove by Ryan's Pet Supplies and decided to stop in. Wholesale? Pet Supplies? In a world of overpriced PETCOs and PetSmarts, this place is now my savior. Since their warehouse is Home Depot sized, things were a little bit hard to find at first. I was overwhelmed by aisle after aisle of boxes stacked on shelves towering to the celling. Luckily the staff members here are incredibly helpful, knowledgeable and accessible. They were more than happy to guide me through the store, answer my questions and open / search through box after box until I found exactly what I wanted. Ultimately I decided to purchase a massive human femur sized dog bone for only $9, and a giant industrial rope knot for a mere $8. My jaw dropped when the casher rang me up for a whopping grand total of $17. I would have spent well over $50 had I purchased these two items elsewhere. And it gets even better. Ryan's also has a catalog, so I can call ahead and phone in my order. It's like take-out for dog supplies. Plus if they don't have what your looking for, they can get it for you within a weeks time so you don't have to waste a trip there. Also, as a note to the ladies (or men too if you've got your murse in tow), they don't allow purses or bags of any kind into the warehouse. I didn't know this the first time I walked in, so they flagged me down upon my entrance. They lock your purses up in little cages, or they say you can leave it in your car...but um hello...have you seen that area?! So it's perfectly safe under the watchful eye of the cashiers. And if you seriously think that these employees are going to steal something from your purse, that they lock in a cage, in area equipped with video cameras, then you are overly paranoid. Ryan's is the king of pet stores, and I'm one happy dog owner because of it. read more

As a first time puppy owner, you buy too much to figure out what you need. What I am glad to have bought here: 1. Grandma's Bitter Apple Spray (only used it a few times to keep the pups from chewing wires and furniture legs but glad to have it on hand) 2. Pizzles (Costco is cheaper by bulk) 3. Nature's Miracle (my godson had a bloody nose on the dog beds, and this worked better than Resolve.. I'm going to start using it on my clothes. Also use it inside the kennels post rinse.) 4. if you like Kongs and its snacks, best pricing here 5. The large tufted bedding, it's machine washable and b/c I get the larger sizes, it doesn't throw my washing machine off balance. 6. Really HUGE cow leg bones or knuckles (search hard). I have them cut into 2-3 pieces at home, pups gnaw on them forever. read more

This place is phenomenal. Hands down. My trainer recommended this place to me for some inexpensive pet supplies and handed me a catalog. She warned me that this is a warehouse, so don't go here expecting a pet resort type store. When you walk in, they take your purse and put it in a locker and then give you a card to retrieve it when you're leaving. It was my first experience there, so I wasn't sure where to go, but all of the employees were really friendly and eager to help! Walking through this place is dangerous. I came in to buy a play pen and a hammock for my car, but left with a basket full of toys and treats! The prices are unbeatable. I found out from an employee there that you can call in your order from the catalog. The catalogs are free, so you call the store, give them your order, and it's ready for pick up in about 2 hours! This is a huge plus since items are sometimes hard to find. I highly recommend this place for all of your pet supplies! read more
