When we got there the check in line was quick to get thru with technicians going over the data and getting us checked in. It was about a 30 min wait I had 2 people in front of me but the savings were worth the wait. After I set up my appointment I got an email for 20% off my service which I appreciated. Update: I spoke with the assistant manager, who is very kind, but informed me that because I had signed for them to remove matting, which I have done for many years, that it was actually my responsibility and that I am to blame for his haircut. I was also told that because my texts with the groomer were kind during the grooming process that it is also my fault for not being angry ahead of time. I was also told that because I picked him up and ran out to take a meeting in my car and did not bring up the concern while I was still at the location that it is again my responsibility. So it seems that this specific Petco grooming location not only does a poor job cutting hair, but also is not understanding or kind towards concerns unless they meet their specific specifications. my dog has never looked worse than coming out of this groomer. I'm not even sure if it's actually my dog at this point. I would avoid this place and go to any other groomer in the entire state. They RUINED my dog's tail. My dog had a beautiful, long, fluffy tail and they chopped it down to a stub. It was NOT matted or adhering her at all. They chopped it off because they wanted to and I hate it. My baby doesn't even look like my baby anymore. She loves to chase her tail and rub her long tail on people she loves, she loves when I run my hand along her tail and now she can't! It barely even WAGS! I would understand if it was matted or objecting anything but it was NOT. I brush her all the time, including her tail, and It's curly and sits up so it's not blocking anything or getting like pee and poop on it. ALSO, they admittedly didn't do all of the things I paid for. I paid for the bath (not bath and haircut so why did they even cut her tail in the first place???) and shed release + which is supposed to include double shed release shampoo, blow dry, 15 min brush + second brush, ear cleaning, anal gland expression, nail trim, scented spritzs, teeth brushing and nail buffing. They didn't clean her ears, do the second brush, being her teeth, buff her nails, or do the spritz...what did I pay for then? it felt like I walked into a store that was run by 4 zombies! there is no customer service whatsoever. i went in to get some fish yesterday, and the fish department lady didn't even acknowledged me for several minutes, then when i asked for help, she angrily responded that the fish department is closed because she must count the fish! when i asked for a manager, the manager never came out of the room. Instead, the lady who was standing at the fish department with the rude employee came out, pretending to be a manager, and made all kinds of excuses for the bi*ch lady. There was no customers other than me and my husband at that time, but 4 employees at the store! i just don't understand how no one offered to help us, and all 4 of them ignored the customer's concerns as a team! I am writing this for their corporate to pay attention to their employee training. I had to go to my neighborhood PetsMart and got all my fish from there. Not only PetsMart has more fish selection, they are helpful and smiling employees who love to help and answer questions. I've been going here for awhile for grooming. Caitlind is a terrible groomer. She is dramatic and not qualified because she can't wash and cut an 8lbs sweet Maltipoo. I've never had issues with ANY other groomer. They all say he does so well and so sweet. He gets nervous when inside of his ears are plucked. So I tell them to skip that part. The other groomers there are great and have no issues. I booked again with Caitlind because she was only one with availability this week. She canceled my appointment due to it not being "safe enough" to get the job done and suggested I go to another salon. All of a sudden after I've been here at this location for over a year. she told me that other groomers must have lied lol. She is the liar and dramatic. Several other people have similar issue with her. She needs to be fired. read more

The vet center wouldnt even take a look at the cat we rescued off the streets despite having an appointment. They claim it's because they are worried she will have a bad reaction to the medications and we won't know it, which is fair enough, but when asked if they could at least take a look over her to make sure she is ok (without giving her the shots), they still turned us away. So much for actually wanting to help the animal, they just want to cover their ass so we don't sue if she died from a reaction to the medication. read more

STAY AWAY from getting your dog groomed here! (Mesa location on Dobson) They caused me a $70 trip to the vet after the shaved my dog down past the skin in his private area and caused abrasions. He's now wearing the " collar of shame" to keep him from licking the abrasion and causing infection. I took my dog to puppy playtime & to training sessions here. I really recommend them! Our trainer (Steve) has helped Waffles grow up to be a wonderful dog. Waffles initially had anxiety around other dogs & food aggression but now he's super social & friendly :) The other employees were also very friendly towards my dog. read more

Pretty disappointed with my visit today. My dog couldn't get groomed even though I have been to this petco location before and other petco locations and have never had an issue. They have told me in the past he does get a little nervous but never to the point where they can't finish. Caitlind, the stylist who helped us, said that people may have lied in the past about him doing good due to taking the easier route to just be done which I find strange because they have always given me detailed feedback and have said he does get a little nervous but overall he does good so clearly maybe she couldn't do her job well enough and can't handle grooming a dog. I have brought him to this exact location as well so is she saying they lie there as well? I'm very disappointed because I really needed to get him groomed and this was the only location available today which is why I came here and I wish I didn't, or I wish the lady that helped us before was there because she was able to get the job done. She had emphasized before even taking him that if he does get too nervous she will have to let me know to pick him up and I had told her that's never been an issue and she called me 10 mins after I left when she said she would've known in 30. It seems she didn't really even try because it was such a quick call. Again, I just find it very strange because my dog has gotten groomed many times and I always take him to petco, and this has never happened. She seemed a little nervous and even shaky when she was handing me a paper to other locations so I can only assume she hasn't been there long or just doesn't know how to do her job too well. Update on my review: My friend who is not a professional was able to groom my dog just fine. Says a lot that a person who is supposed to be a qualified professional groomer was not able to get the job done and my friend who is not a professional was able to get the job done. Always asking about my dogs anytime I bring them with me and giving them treats. I decided to try their grooming salon for the very first time today as I had the absolute worst experience at Petsmart grooming months ago. Just skeptical of going somewhere to get my pups nails trimmed. The grooming staff is phenomenal! They listened to my concerns for my dogs and it was 2 of them that helped calm both of them down. My pomsky didn't freak out and cry. My shiba inu was so scared they took their time with her and were able to calm her down to get her nails trimmed. Excellent grooming staff! Highly recommend. She was extremely rude over the phone before I went to the store as well as the whole time I was in the store. I'm giving them two stars instead of one because the brick-and-mortar location nearest me, (In Mesa Riverview Plaza, Mesa AZ), has an excellent manager and they've always done right by me. Beyond that, Petco blows. Their credit card is handled by a finance company called Comenity Bank, whose primary line of business is rip-off car loans for people with low credit scores, and it shows. The card website is ridiculously hard to navigate, and EVERY TIME YOU LOG OUT - even if it's for ten seconds - you have to enter a new login code. The card they send you is plain white with the Petco logo on it, and good luck getting that custom card with your pet's picture on it. They reject absolutely every picture, forever. Also, good luck ever getting a credit line increase, no matter how consistently you pay your bills. But that's not the best part. The best part is the fact that if you are one day late on one payment, (for ANY reason, even if you've called during their 7 hour business day and discussed it with someone), your interest rate automatically jumps from about 12% to almost 40%, and that's your new interest rate FOREVER. I will be paying off and canceling my card ASAP. Now let's discuss the website. It's not the easiest to use, the search function is primitive at best, and as an added bonus, you now are forced to do the b.s. two-part authentication EVERY TIME YOU LOG OUT - even if it's only for ten seconds. (Sound familiar?). Long story short, I will continue to use the brick-and-mortar location for my cats' litter and food, but I will use nothing else Petco offers. read more

So a girl called me and told me she could take my dog because she had mats and stuff and said I would like to refer u to a vet so she can be asleep while she is groomed and she didn't even look at my dog and called me she said the notes from my dog previous appointment says she had mats in her hair and she was really jumpy but when I called the Petco in chandler they where we don't see any notes. We took our golden doodle for grooming, asked for medium length hair with longer hair on top. I received a call from Emily 4 hours later saying she couldn't finish the job today and that I would have to bring him back. When I went to go pick him up, he had BALD spots throughout his fur, his fur was taken all the way down to his skin, razor burn and half of his face was cut the other was not. She also decided to leave the end of his tail long like a lion??? She definitely tried to shave him before bathing him and combing him out and then complained to us that he was "too matted" for her to groom. A pet store that gives aquatic life the attention they deserve. Right when you come in you see the great displays of fishes and tanks they have right near the entrance. I guess we came to the perfect store cause that was exactly what we came here shopping for. Abby was great! She was the cashier and seemed to be the only worker in the whole store right before closing time. She was a one woman army. Single handedly taking care of every customer at checkout and the ones with questions in the aisles. She was extremely knowledgeable and really helpful. She helped us pick the perfect fish tank for our daughter's gold fishes. Thank you so much Abby. K loves this place. It all started years ago when C won 3 goldfish at the state fair. We bought a 10 gallon tank and all the fixins for them. They survived awhile and so did the replacement goldfish but eventually, K and C decided that after the last goldfish kicked the bucket, they were going to switch the tank over to a fresh water tank. K and C started with 5 guppies. That lasted over the last year but they kept dying and being replaced until finally K decided to try Betta's. This location had the best selection of Betta's and Michael, one of the employees was awesome. He's knowledgeable and was very helpful to K in getting the right stuff to keep the water at the right balance. We've been very happy with the fish this place stocks and the help from the staff. Well stocked, knowledgeable staff about fish, friendly staff in general, clean facility. 4 Stars. read more

Just bought a bag of "Under The Sun" original adult dog food from them, when I got home and opened the bag, to my horror BUGS! And what looks like, nests or bundles of webbing? I have no idea, all I know is that I bought a bag of food for my best friend and its full, I mean infested with bugs and gross bug remains! I'm grossed out to even have it in my house. gross gross gross! Also, I called customer service to see what I needed to do in this matter, if I exchange it, return it, do I bring the bag back, is there a "sorry you got a bag of bugs" discount? like???? We've been going to this Petco for the past couple of years, because it's closest to our house. A constant and ongoing gripe with this location, while this seems to be an average pet store, in terms of stock and available products, is that it's nearly impossible to locate an employee, even when you're trying to check out. Every visit to this place ultimately leads us to milling around, trying to find an someone to help with whatever we need. The ones that we do find are averagely helpful, nothing to write home about, but none have been rude. However, and this part of the review may not apply to most of you, but ATTENTION FISH LOVERS: confirmed case of camallanus worms in a fish that we just bought from this location. Due to the highly contagious nature of this parasite, I wanted to report on this immediately. Avoid this fish section, or be prepared to do a preventative deworming and quarantine of any new fish for 6 to 12 weeks. Devastating. Took my dog in only to get a butt trim and paws cut confirmed that with her also because she was trying to make me get a spa (which I have got before) but didn't need it this time around so only wanted those done. She then accepted that and acknowledged just to do those two things. I had a appointment at 10:30am and my dog didn't finish until 2:15pm because they said "we are taking walk-ins for Christmas". She went behind my back after telling her over and over when I dropped him off only to do those two things but she did a whole 70$ treatment so she can make more money. The manager then came and I explained to her that her associate confirmed with me multiple times that, that's all she was going to do. And then explained how if you guys don't just cut butt hairs and paws, then why didn't your associate explain that a spa needed to be included. She never once did. Asked the manger "who's at fault, your associate should've mentioned you need a bath as well" but failed to do so leaving me unaware of it. We took our dog to Petco for a full bath and nail trim. When we picked him up and carried him to the car, he was bleeding so much on his nails, blood even got on our shirts and pants. We immediately took him back to Petco and the employees they did not even know he was bleeding ?! How can they not know with that amount of blood? Well, things got worse. I made a phone call to PetCo Service and did their survey to just receive an email saying "sorry didn't meet your expectations". I was expecting more response from PetCo. PetCo didn't apologize for the poor service provided nor said how PetCo would improve situations like that in the future? I'm honestly quite surprised of how PetCo taking this matter like nothing. I have been patient and contacted PetCo for cutting my dog and didn't even know about it. I just can't understand how she missed that. And PetCo's response is "well, sorry didn't meet your expectation"? Now I know that not only the grooming service is bad but also the customer service. The hair cut wasn't bad and I understand mistakes happen. But the way PetCo responded to the situation was very bad. His tail was completely cut which for a Chinese crested dog is a huge mistake. The only way to recover from this is to shave him down. Do NOT go to this location for grooming. read more

I love the toys that I bought for my cat Nutmeg, with the most recent one being a mouse wand toy that he LOVES!!!!! His other toys don't exist. It's also nice to just come in and window shop and to see the animals. They have a nice environment where the people are totally animal focused and people friendly. read more
