I'm giving this store one star here's a thing if you plan to go on Saturday or Sunday I recommend you not to go when I me as a kid making this review now that I was 11 years old I went there and the bad thing is that the story was about to close probably like in 56 or even 29 seconds, we only get to see a few birds until they shut off the lights in front of her and say that in days in their employees services is not good. They said that the store is apparently closed. I was crying so bad until I found another store that sells birds like these it don't catch too much I recommend you not to go here unless you have a lot of money some of the birch even tiny ones can cost up to $1000 or 1200 or other big birds caused maybe $3000 like who's gonna pay for that just for one bird I understand birds are trained but the store cannot just sell the birds for too much price. I would recommend you're not going here the birds toys are too expensive. read more

AZ Bird store also offers a wide variety of birds available for adoption, from wee little hand fed babies to adults. They also offer boarding, DNA, and more! I have also noted that they have options to meet most budgets, including used/gently used cages, financing via an outside lender (OAC). This is very much of a family-style business that takes pride in getting to know each customer and your bird. They have bird club meetings hosted monthly for those interested in learning more. They also host get togethers monthly for socializing with others who enjoy birds too. Of course my favorite part is that birds are always welcome. I like to support this business because it's a small business, who supports other small businesses in my community, they encourage volunteers and even work with teens should your child wants to earn service learning hours, they support other businesses that are veteran owned and follow sustainable practices from what "doing my homework online " has led me to conclude. Finally, my favorite reason for supporting this business is because they further the cause and give back to the community by educating, encouraging responsible animal care, even assisting with fostering/care in emergency wildfire evacuations. I can really appreciate a business that "puts its money where it's mouth is and actively supports and advocates within the community" improving care and cause. read more

Go to Pretty Feathers instead! We learned this after the fact but like others have said, their birds are horribly overpriced. We paid $800 for 2 cockatiels. And one cockatiel has Chlamydia so I'm pretty sure both of them do. For anybody that doesn't know, Chlamydia is common in birds and not surprising as they kept 20+ cockatiel birds in a confined area. So on top of paying $800 for the birds themselves, I have had to pay $600+ in vet bills and medications. Then add in the cage, food, and all the things you need for a bird... I estimate $2000 for 2 birds. Not to mention the disease can be passed to other animals and humans so that's cool. - it's different than the STD FYI. read more

DO NOT TAKE YOUR BIRDS HERE! First of all we got our bird from another establishment because their birds are way over priced here. Brought our baby in for some grooming. The staff was not friendly at all. The lady grooming our bird was not gentle. Our bird was so stressed and she didn't even care. When we mentioned getting training for our bird since she's a baby and nips and bites a lil too much for our liking, she literally said to hit the bird. I'm sorry but there is a fine line between discipline and abuse. My husband thought she was joking and asked if we could have some real advice, but we soon realized she was absolutely serious. We will never be back to this place. There staff and ways of educating people on taking care of birds are total trash. read more

This spot is small but nice as you get to walk around and see live parrots and have a conversation with them lol. Awesome for kids to interact without touching of course. Went in today to get grooming on my birds for the first time. I am not impressed by any means. The owner just told us to go to the room and pointed. When she got in, she didn't say anything, grabbed a towel and took one of my birds out of the cage and went to town on a traumatizes bird. The birds are a little over a year old and I had cut their nails in the past. I was really interested in the beak getting filed and since it was the same price either way, get the nails and wings clipped. Well, the wings got clipped, or shall I say butchered. They now drop like a rock and I am really concerned they are going to get hurt. A good clip will prevent the bird from gaining altitude or at least allow them to float down. The thing that really got me was that everyone I talked to including the breeder I got my birds from speak very highly of this place and says the owner loves birds. For someone who loves what she does, she did not say one soothing word to an obviously traumatized bird during or after the process. Come to think of it, she didn't say anything to me either other than point and tell me to go to the room. I had to ask who and where to pay. Two birds took all of 5 minutes and cost $30. Hopefully it doesn't cost me hundreds or thousands more in vet bills. read more

We rescued a young pigeon the other day, no more than a month old. He's an adorable squeaker who fell out of his nest and couldn't fly back up. Between leaving him for predators or taking him in (despite needing to buy a bunch of equipment), the choice couldn't have been clearer for us fanciers of the Columbidae variety. Baby birdies need to grow big and strong, and, when rehabilitated indoors, sufficiently entertained. The GF and I chose the Arizona Bird Store, trusting they'd have just what we needed to keep our pigeon healthy and happy. And they did not disappoint! This is a small business (support them, folks), that boasts a thriving population of beautiful birds, a bird room -- which is temporarily closed given present circumstances -- and a wealth of enclosures, food, toys, and necessities. Just to browse was enjoyable for us. We were quickly able to find what we needed: bath spray with aloe, a box of grit (aids digestion and adds calcium to your bird's diet), and a little mirror with a bell. The toys are definitely on the upper-end in terms of price, but this trinket was affordable enough. Staff was friendly and let us browse uninterrupted; we definitely want to come back when the bird room reopens! Our pigeon was happy with the stock -- he loves looking at himself in the mirror (so vain!) and pecking at the bell. Although he's now able to bathe himself, he did respond well to the bath spray. The grit's an acquired taste (he much prefers sunflower seeds), but he's learning. Needless to say, for future essential purchases for our avian friends, we will be sure to pay Arizona Bird Store a visit. 'Til next time! read more

Was here a few days ago and was not pleased with the staff or the owner at all. I was very interested in getting a cockatiel to add to my family and due to seeing ads from their store I came here since they were having a sale for them for $50. The lady then showed me one of the birds and said that "it was only that price for breeders" then I told her I was still interested and then she had changed the story to "they are just mean and aren't tamed" I had told her that I am able to tame them and that it wasn't an issue. She then said that she didn't recommend that for me and said the price was going to be $200-$400 depending on what the color of the cockatiel is. I don't believe that this was correct I felt very unwelcome and uncomfortable it was as if she hadn't wanted me to adopt a little cockatiel. I saw a family there who had just adopted two and I know for a fact that they got the deal. The white cockatiel that she had first showed me wasn't healthy at all and I don't think their birds are well taken care of:/ I don't recommend this place AT ALL and they ARE NOT kid friendly either. I would rate them a 0 star if I could. You're better off going else where for a new bird to add to your flock. This store NEEDS to be SHUT DOWN for the birds sake and sued by the customers who had lost their money when putting a deposit down. This place is absolute garbage! Recently visited to purchase my first bird. Austin was so helpful and spent a good hour with my family (4kids and husband) to answer all our questions. Purchased our first lorikeet! This place is truly amazing. Since our little Lori isn't still hand feeding, and we weren't comfortable weaning, we won't bring him home for two weeks. We can visit and call to see how he's doing anytime. Kayla was also wonderful when I called to check in. Customer for life! read more

Horrible experience and the staff is extremely rude and judgmental. I came in for a baby love bird and wanted hand raised hand fed babies. They told me they had them. And the one I wanted was 300 dollars. Their birds were extremely scared and terrified they put their baby lovebirds in a giant fish bowl that their water is disgusting. And they handle their love birds with nets to grab them. Went to Pretty Feathers Az and I bought 3 love birds and each love bird was 129 and it doesn't matter what color and their staff is extremely nice and the birds are not scared at all and come to you right away to play. The old skinny lady with red in her hair was extremely rude ! I visit the store frequently to purchase bird food and today I was looking for another umbrella cockatoo usually the staff is very welcoming and when it come to the bird they let us show them extra love with scratches and letting us hold them , she did not want us giving them any love at all she told us somthing twice and also made the statement " you don't want to touch these birds you don't know if you can trust them blood is very hard to clean off the floor " witch I personally feel is not a good statement to make especially when you have birds flying around the store freely I will not purchase a bird unless I feel a connection with the so that fact that she was cutting that connection was absolutely heart breaking , it saddens a bird lover like my self to witness what I felt was an employee who does not know how to sale nor love these birds ! If you are looking for top notch customer service and sales attention, er... you might not find this store quite as enchanting as I do. The staff here are very knowledgeable, and boy do they love their birds. AZ Bird Store is run like a community; help yourself and make yourself at home - it's so awesome. Debbie is so friendly and helpful as she runs around helping customers and caring for birds, but it might be a minute before she gets to you. The maintenance staff are mostly younger folk that clean, clip wings and snuggle the tenants. I have had only positive experiences with all of the employees. I will say that the toys are a bit pricey, but they make up for it with their low price bulk food and bird care services. This place is (...and hopefully always will be) a fixture in Mesa. read more

Wow, used to really love this place. In fact I got my Blue and Gold macaw here around 6 or so years ago. Me and my boyfriend had been talking about adding another bird to our family and decided to go take a look one weekend and see what was available for cages and what not. We knew we wanted a smaller bird so when I saw some conures I'd figure I'd ask how much they were going for. You know what they told me? "They are all $1500". I was shocked! I even went to go clarify with the front desk where they told me "all of our large conures are 1500" Wild, I paid $1600 for my MACAW. And not only that, they wanted $1000 for a Bourke Parakeet. Why would I shop here when I can buy a sun conure or even another species from a reputable breeder for much less? Just wild to me at the prices they are charging. Sad. read more

Very shady place don't trust them or their workers I had a payment plan with this place and they unaccounted for over 700$ when I was paying off my bill I had to go in and show my bank statement to prove to them I made those payment and they stole my bird carrier! I can't understand why so many people have issues with this business. I had a wonderful experience this past weekend. I was attended by Debbie, the owner, and she was delightful. The store is well-stocked and very clean and organized. The cages are a bit pricey BUT just a bit more than Amazon. Supporting local and getting exactly what you see is better than opening box from Amazon that might be damaged or not quite what you expected, etc. So I'm happy to pay just a little more for those reasons. Supporting local during this pandemic is even more important. The canary I bought is lovely and sings up a storm. So happy I got him. I highly recommend Arizona Bird Store. read more

When you want to take a animal somewhere you would think they know what they are doing. DO NOT take your bird here. We took our bird here because he needed his beak and claws trimmed. This place trimmed our birds beak so much he was bleeding non-stop. Their excuse was that we told them the wrong type of bird he was. Well you would think they would know since it's a bird store. They trimmed his claws so short that that the poor guy keeps falling over because he can't get a grip. read more

My bird almost died because of their 'we know best' attitude. To note first, their parakeets and lovebirds may come from other breeders. Although they are guaranteed to be hand fed, it's obvious some got that treatment where others didn't. Second, the smaller birds are kept in two large tanks up front. I noticed the water and the litter were disgusting. You hear how petco gets their budgies from bird mills, and the conditions of those tanks were like a glorified version of that. It didn't sit right with me that these birds were bathing, and scattering waste in the same water bowls they're expected to drink from. Same with the food. Second, among the parakeets and lovebirds, there are obvious instigators or aggressive animals, that pick on the other birds. Two of the parakeets I picked out, were missing toes, and had feathers pulled, as if they'd been bitten off. They were also a little dirty, from old water and poop. When you sign the papers to take them home, not only does it require you to bring them back after a week to check their weight (they never actually followed up that), but it also suggests you take them to the vet maybe two days after purchasing them. I was on board with that idea, considering the tank I saw them in. Sure enough, about two days after I got home, I noticed one of the parakeets whom I'd named Gale, breathing very loudly. Her tail was bobbing and it sounded like she was wheezing. She'd also gag as if trying to get her breath back. Immediately I suspected a respiratory infection, and got in the car to head to a vet. I called the bird store, and was forwarded to the owner (for emergency). I wanted to let her know what was going on, because they do blacklist. When she picked up the phone, I listed the symptoms Gale was showing, and was faced with a rather hostile sigh, and "why didn't you just bring her to us?!" I asked if they were sure they had the medicine and know-how to treat sick birds, to which she shouted yes. I took it, guessing she was as concerned as I was. She said there would be someone in that day, to take a look at her. However when I arrived, the girl merely looked her around, and said she was fine. That naturally "English budgies are heavy breathers", and she was a little fat. I was still skeptical but trusted her opinion, because I believed experience outweighed study. Over the next few months when I came in for supplies, I heard talk of the owner or her closer companions, verbally abuse their other employees. Allot of the times when I came in, the owner wasn't around and the employees had told me, they didn't know where she was or when she'd be back. That they didn't have any kind of authority to run the store. Since I still have trouble swaddling my birds, I bring them here to get their nails clipped. Over time as I watched the relationship between the owner and her employees/friends, I finally accepted the fact they may be as toxic and/or unstable as I'd heard. That they weren't so much protective of the birds, as they were possessive. And that the supplies was a little pricey, but I mean bills to pay mouths to feed. Every time I brought them in to be groomed, I'd tell whoever was there that day, about Gale and if they thought she might be sick. And every time I got the same answer, that she was just fat and naturally a heavy breather. Well today was finally the day... I had just gotten home from therapy of all things, and when I stepped in my room I saw Gale, slouched, wings spread, and gasping for air. Immediately I rushed to an actual animal hospital, and at first glance the receptionist noted it was an obvious respiratory infection. I told them about where I had adopted her from, and what I saw when I was there. It took about five minutes for them to diagnose her, and 15 for treatment. Before they sent me home with antibiotics, the doctor suggested I'd come in again, noting Gales heartbeat was faint, which could point to fluid in the lungs, but mostly to be tested for chlamydia. She is the sweetest bird, and many people say a budgie isn't worth the money I'm spending right now, especially for the situation my family is in. Even if this infection proves to be deadly, I at least want to make her as comfortable as I can, so she can live the life she deserves. Altogether, if you'd like to find a bird that hadn't been previously owned, sure ask them. But that's it... In fact, I know of another bird sanctuary, which when I visited, was filled floor to roof with birds who needed new homes, and handmade toys and treats. I felt super bad for the lady there, as part of her morning routine is checking in on all of them and cleaning their cages. I'll update with the name when I find it again read more

The owner gives only the best advice and her passion for bird's makes me feel confident bringing my Macaw here for for her care. We didn't get the same impression. We thought they had a great selection of supplies and animals. Customer service was good. Cages looked clean and didn't spot 1 dead bird. If they were as bad as the other comment I would have contacted animal services. I bought a beautiful baby cockatiel who has grown to be a big boy. His name is Kujo (he thinks he's tough. Prices are a little higher, but the quality is better then you find at PetSmart, Petco, or Walmart. read more

Posting for Ivy Herron (Mesa, AZ) Groomer: Debbie If given a choice, I would have rated ZERO stars. Our parrot was man-handled and terrified the entire time he was being groomed. He screamed so hard and for so long - he has never behaved this way previously while being groomed. While trying to towel our parrot in his carry cage, his head got caught in the bars. She quickly poked and pushed his head to release it from the bars, leaving the side of his face raw. When I asked about it, she wouldn't answer me about him getting caught, she just said that he bit her. (She's been bitten more than several times - it's part of 'the business of birds' - she shouldn't have 'taken it out' on him). After he was out of the cage, she was very rough with him because he was fighting her, due to the way she had treated him from the beginning. While she was trimming his nails, a couple of them were caught on the towel. She jerked one nail hard; ripped the ENTIRE nail out, leaving an exposed, raw, bloody toe. She immediately blamed us for 'letting them get so long'. Had she not been so rough and impatient while grooming, none of this would have happened in the first place. It seemed as though she couldn't groom him fast enough - she just wanted him gone. After this transpired, she moved to the back of the store to 'weigh him', even though there was a scale in the grooming room, and I could no longer see him. When she returned with him, there was something very 'off' - he was visibly terrified and beyond stressed. He's been in extreme pain since, and is unable to perch on the foot where the nail was ripped out. We are now fighting to keep it from infection. I was shocked at how unprofessional and 'cold' she was, but even more shocked at her lack of empathy, because she's groomed him several times before - which is why I asked for her specifically. That being said, we'll never subject our precious parrot to this type of treatment again. read more
