    BLT with Old Bay Fries
    Susan H.

Recently, I was looking at my Facebook feed and saw an article that talked about Potomac Taphouse changing up things. They had a new menu that debuted this month. We took a look at it and thought it looked good. So...we headed there for a Saturday dinner. Upon entering, we noticed that there was no host stand. A server called out to us and said "sit wherever you want", which we did. I'm never comfortable with places that have you sit where you want. If no one notices that a customer came in and sat down, it could take a while until you get noticed. The same server approached us and gave us menus. We had noticed that the online menu mentioned sandwiches. There were none listed on the menus we got. When the server came back, she said sandwiches were on the lunch menu and she got us that menu. For starters, we got drinks. I had a "virgin mojito" mocktail while my husband tried to order a beer (I forget which one) but they were out. The server recommended one called "Crazy Pils Beer", which he agreed to try. For dinner, I ordered a BLT and for my side "old bay French fries". My husband got the "Potomac Taphouse burger", also with "old bay French fries". The place struck us as understaffed. Our server was also doubling as a bartender. Fortunately, only a few people were sitting at the bar. She mixed up my mocktail. It was bitter as I think she may have left out the "simple syrup". My husband liked his beer. The kitchen was very slow despite the fact that there weren't many customers Here's why I can't give them a higher rating --- When the food came, the fries had an awful smell that was really off putting. We reluctantly tasted them and noticed that there was no old bay seasoning at all---just bland fries. Neither of us could figure out what the awful smell was. I had to push them aside while I ate my BLT. The BLT was fine---it had good portions of lettuce and tomato, plus the amount of bacon and mayo was decent. My husband thought his burger was okay. He was pleased that there was onion on it. After our food was dropped off, the place got busier so our server couldn't be as attentive. We never got to point out the awful smelling fries. Needless to say, we won't return. Those memories of the fries will stay with us.

Salmon, green beans and mashed potatoes next to my Solace Brewery's Partly Cloudy IPA before the big winter snowstorm in DC tomorrow.

Great atmosphere. Sat at the bar since I was by myself and the bartender was great! I got the salmon on a plank with mashed potatoes and green beans. The salmon was excellent and the green beans too. The potatoes had a funny aftertaste but maybe it was the two beers I had before 12 noon! Highly recommend this Ashburn bar/gastropub!!

    Smokey old fashioned. Yum

Very conflicted and I've been here three times. I have some observations: staff was good, helpful and they worked. The place was clean. Bathrooms clean. Nice outdoor seating. Extensive beer menu ( although I thought beer pricing was inconsistent. Some seemed too expensive some value.). Smoke old fashioned was super! Now the food: bruschetta good but only 5 pieces making it harder to share. The wings were severely over cooked. I also mentioned the wings being over cooked and I was looked at like a weirdo. Pasta was good and large portion. Pork chop tough but good sauce.

What can I say here.....I so wanted to give them more because they are so nice, but I need to be honest, so here we go. Plus. Happy hour prices on drinks and apps, incredibly good. Drinks for $6, big plus. Server and Manager could not had been nicer. Cons. Big table of 12 had them overwhelmed, service was extremely slow. My wife had 2 bites of her burger, and was done. Said it just was terrible tasting. My salad was okay, not great. Will not be back, will not give them a second chance, too many other restaurants to choose from around here. I know they are trying, and best of luck.

I went for happy, which has great deals! They only had one bartender who also acts as the waiter too so service is spotty. I loved my prickly pear margarita, but the food wasn't the best. I don't know if it's the oil they use or what but the fried food just had an "off" taste to it. I thought it was just the tots but I tried my friend's mozzarella bites as well & it had that same distinctive unwanted flavor. I wasn't a fan of the wings either, so I'd recommend coming for the happy hour drinks but skip the food.

Here's a short positive review:…read more A Gem in Ashburn -- The Lost Fox Delivers Every Time The Lost Fox is hands down one of the best spots in Ashburn. The cozy atmosphere, stone hearth, and warm decor make it the perfect place for a date night, a special occasion, or just a great evening out. The food is outstanding. The crab dip, the housemade pasta, and the burger are all incredible -- clearly made with real care and quality ingredients. The cocktails are equally impressive and keep pace with the food perfectly. The variety of seating -- dining room, lounge, patio, rooftop, and fire-pit areas -- means there's a perfect spot for any vibe, whether you want something intimate and quiet or lively with live music on the weekends. Service was warm and attentive, and the whole experience felt genuinely special without being stuffy. This place has become my go-to recommendation for anyone visiting the area. Don't sleep on The Lost Fox -- it's a true Ashburn treasure.

It projects an English modern cabin vibe, but with a touch on whimsy (see mustache coat hangers on booths!). The fireplace is centrally located and gives off an essence of coziness. Complimenting the ambiance, the service was great! The server was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu, making great recommendations. We came for brunch and ordered the breakfast burger and pork belly breakfast sandwich. We also split the avocado toast as a starter (we were starving!). The avocado toast was perfectly prepared - toast was cripsy on the outside and chewy and thick on the inside. Ample smattering of smashed avocado with the fixin's. The burger was very good and my friend said they would totally order it again. The pork belly breakfast sandwich held together perfectly despite the inside being heavy. Pork belly remained perfectly crunchy and it had a heavy helping of melted cheese that was not overpowering. Brunch was amazing and we want to go back and experience the patio when it's warmer and also some live music! Such a great vibe and good food!

The food was beautifully presented and the wine pairing was superb. Definitely recommend having them pair your wines. The grilled shrimp was a great start. The sparkling rose made the shrimp taste even better. The goat cheese ravioli was probably my favorite savory dish of the evening. The sweet sage-maple syrup-tomato sauce was fantastic. The Sancerre was pleasant with it, although I thought the ravioli itself was more impressive than the pairing. I had to order bread so the sauce wouldnt go to waste. I ordered the lamb medium rare, but it arrived closer to medium, and initially it was somewhat underseasoned. After adding salt and pepper and getting some of the thyme from the plate into the bite, the lamb became significantly better and worked better with the Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The creamed spinach underneath was delicious on its own, but I didn't enjoy it with the wine. Interestingly, the absolute highlight of that wine pairing was the braised garlic. The sweet, mellow garlic and Châteauneuf-du-Pape were wonderful together. Dessert was the highlight of the entire pairing. The lavender ice cream was outstanding, the Chantilly surrounding it was light and delicious, and the strawberry sauce wasn't overly sweet. The Sauternes was excellent with the dessert, particularly with the fresh strawberry. This was the pairing where the food and wine truly made each other better. Even though I was one of the last diners of the evening, I never felt rushed. My server was very attentive and social which I love. It was very romantic and yet comfortable enough that dining alone wasnt awkward. I'd happily return.
