Bowl of chicken pot pie soup
Stefan S.

I came to meet a friend for happy hour and we had some Old Bay wings and they were delicious. Our original bartender and server, Liv, was amazing! She was super efficient, even though she had many customers and many orders both drinks and food. It was unfortunate that she went off shift halfway through the time we were there because the other bartender who took over was terribly unattentive and not a very good listener. After finishing our wings I ordered fish and chips, and when they came out which was pretty quick, one of the pieces was not cooked well enough and it also tasted like ammonia. I had Liv take it back. Then Jason, the manager came out to check with me on the issue and I told him that not only was it not fully cooked but it also tasted like ammonia. Not wanting to get sick, I opted for a bowl of the chicken pot pie soup. And it was quite amazing! I could have gotten some crust with it but I opted for just the soup. It was creamy and very filling and had lots of pieces of chicken and vegetables in it. It was a good choice. I finished off with some of their funnel cake dessert fries with chocolate and raspberry sauce. They were delicious. All in all, a good meal, downgraded one star because of the poor service by the second bartender. I don't even recall her name because I don't think she told us. Liv and Jason were wonderful. I look forward to going back again in the future and I do recommend a visit here.

So from the outside it's has another strip mall decor but in the inside it's a proper mini Irish pub. It has the feel of an Irish beer drinking joint. Tried the stuffed eggs ... pretty decent. Had some Guinness... always always great. The everyday specials looked wonderful... will be back for their Friday Fish Fry. The bartender (Jason) was really cool, welcoming and friendly which is such a bonus. Yeah strip mall Irish Pub ... I'm in!! Will be back

Patrons are mostly locals and repeat customers, which I love. They do Thursday evening football games and have some soccer affinity too. Usually there's ice hockey playing as well. Ragz loves their chilli burgers and gets one pretty much every time. I usually get their quesadilla. They are very good with customizing orders for me - for example, I ask for less chicken and lots of veggies in my quesadilla and they always get it right. I also like their soups, which rotate. The chicken and rice is a good one, as is the tomato soup. Not a huge fan of the wings I have tried so far, honestly. Service is great. Ashley is my fav! Yes, the bar was busy but not a lot of people who were obviously eating( many drinkers. Some turned the volume up right before the game started. We were right near the speakers; our mistake. There is lots of seating in the outside patio as well. They do a lot of themed events almost every night = burger night, trivia..! There are free line dancing lessons offered by a cool instructor. The dance floor is a pretty good size and fills up. The service was poor- I had to hunt down our server Cory three different times. He kept forgetting the lemons for our salmon dish and waters despite his saying lemons coming right up. We asked his assistant who brought out the entrees and salads for the same - he came back after 6 minutes with a tiny slice of lemon for 4 people, then ran away! The food was average. I ordered a bowl of the Potato Leek soup for $8 and was looking forward to it. Out came a bowl maybe a 1/3 full ( literally five soup spoonfuls). I asked Cory if that was a mistake or a kid's portion and his hilarious response was classic, " Oh we are precise. We measure the soup with a serving ladle and only put this much so it won't splash or spill." The salmon add on (for $10)on the house salad was so so. I was on the floor cracking up. $32 plus tip average per person and I was still hungry. I will not be back for the food. Definitely for the dancing in my new Stetson El Presidente Premium 100X Hat. It looked like fun.

The staff was exceptional from start to finish - welcoming, attentive, genuinely friendly, and the kind of hospitality that makes you want to stay awhile. The food, drinks, and overall energy were fantastic, but what really stood out was how authentic and comfortable the experience felt. I've spent plenty of time in LA dining all over the place, and this spot genuinely hangs with the best neighborhood pubs and gastropubs out there. Wow, what a quaint British pub in the middle of Vienna. Parking is a little tight for this area,…read morebut you can definitely find some spots in the back on a weekday. I ended up biking and there's a bike stand really close by. My friend was craving fish and chips, so we ventured out this way. Because we came on a Thursday they had a deal going where if you ordered a pie, you could get a beer for free. Of course I had to partake, so I ordered the special pie, which was a masala, chicken, curry pie, and it was quite good. A bit small for the price point but with the beer included totally worth it also because their fries are so good. I could demolish over a pound of those fries. They were thick potato and maybe the extra added bonus of having to use a glass ketchup bottle added to it. My friend and I were also taught how to properly hit the ketchup bottle to get the ketchup out by the bartender. You find the 57 on the bottle at an angle and bump you palm there that instead of hitting the bottom and hoping and praying that ketchup comes out. It actually worked or at least it was more efficient than trying to hit the bottom of the bottle upside down. I had never had a hand pumped beer before, but it was quite good. They are a warm beer rotating and it was quite good, it especially paired well with the pie or fish and chips.

We started off with Guinnesses and they were tasty, they were just super cold, making it hard to do the new fad of splitting the G. Bartenders were solid and we ordered some potato skins and the jameson oysters to try. Both were pretty good, typical bar food but a nice take. Biggest negative was the restrooms upstairs - really need a facelift, pretty grungy and the mens bathroom was out of toilet paper, paper towels, and soap which is pretty gross.

I'll have various # of reviews per year. I moved to Alexandria from Arizona on Saturday, October 15, 2011. As a 27 year old at the time and being new to town, I wanted to check out the bar scene in various places like DC, Clarendon, other areas of Arlington, & the city I lived in Alexandria, more specifically Old Town. My scrapbook series of reviews will likely go into 2027 (but I'll get some done from 8/31 to whenever things get bad for me) as I may not be getting much if any Yelp reviews done in October-November time range due to high dose chemo with stem cell replacement. You never imagine what life throws your way. Sure, I had various issues when I was kid, teen, & in 20's, but pails in comparison to 40's for me. In the 20's, job situation was unstable, dating/women drama, etc. But you never imagine that at 15 year anniversary of being in DC area having to do high dose chemo. My experience at Murphy's in October 2011 & beyond: When I lived in Alexandria, this was my #1 favorite & go to bar. I liked a good Irish pub over some club or some generic bar, although I enjoyed some of those to in my 20's. Murphy's staff was cordial here, and beer was good. They had some music at times and could be crowded on a weekend. My 1st weekend in the DC area was October 15-16, 2011, I was busy with moving & settling in and starting job on that Monday. Following weekend I explored DC amongst other fun things. On the 3rd weekend, Friday, October 28, 2011, I explored the Old Town Alexandria bar scene and stumbled across Murphy's Irish Pub. It was also Halloween weekend and there were some people in costumes. I got a chick's phone #. Her name was Adele, like the singer. Tried to get a date with her but never panned out as she claimed to be busy with whatever else. I went to Murphy's a few other times and always enjoyed. I included pic of the October 2011 receipt from my scrapbook. I'm going to take a pic of each thing from scrapbook as that'll take more time, but I had to include the first thing at the very least. All the stuff in for the 2011-2017 living in Virginia era businesses included are just receipts.
