Below average hot dogs in my opinion... This was one of the top recommendations for my visit to chicago so I was very excited to try it. I ordered a regular beef hot dog with everything on it and a chili cheese dog with no cheese. I don't know what it is but the hot dog itself tasted really weird to me. Maybe I am just used to the normal ones but the portillo dogs made me feel a little dizzy afterwards. The toppings were okay but this is a Chicago experience I will Nootka be trying again. read more

I love Portillo's chopped salad. I used to drive tere for lunch all the time when I worked in Schaumburg. I would get the exact same thing every time. A chopped salad with the Bleu cheese and bacon on the side. No dressing. That's right! The salad is so good that it is good dry. I have to admit though that the dressing is pretty good; I just am not a fan of dressing. The chopped salad also come with a French bread slice and butter. Portillo's has their drive through system down so the wait is never too bad, even during peak hours. read more

Waited 8 minutes for a hot dog, 10 minutes for a fish sandwich and 20 minutes for a salad with tuna. Friend had thrown away her receipt so manager said he couldn't credit her order, but he'd take care of her next time she came in. As if we're ever going back. Sent in survey to Portillos. This was their response. Pathetic! Hello Cindy My name is Anna and I am a Guest Experience Coordinator at Portillo's Hot Dogs. Ooohhh my goodness , if you want a really good salad , I mean like a taste explosion . Two that I recommend and it's one of those good eats that you have to repeat a few times during the week you first discovered it . The Chopped Salad at Portillos ....any Portillos is the best I have ever had . I have been enjoying this salad from time to time for about 5 years now. It has Small noodles , romaine, spinach, red cabbage, green onions, Cold or Hot grilled chicken, feta cheese, some other green lettuce, tomatoes a few other random ingredients. The house dressing is the best and I wish they would sell it at the restaurant or something . The salad also comes with a lemon poppy seed muffin which is really good as a further taste bud punch as if you would need one while eating this salad. It's a big portion , you could share it ......but believe me you won't want too. The other salad is seasonal ( Spring / Summer) review is pending- read more

I love Portillo's because of their cheese fries! The staff are very nice and friendly. The service is fast. Cheese fries are the best out there. I also like their hot dogs, char broiled chicken sandwich, and onion rings. My boyfriend really enjoys the Italian beef and burgers. Also their chocolate cake is great! Very moist! read more

Ok, so, if you don't love Portillo's something is wrong with you. It's not a high class place by any means, but you can't beat the hot dogs and Italian beef's. I have a couple colleagues that visit from other cities and each time they request that we go to Poritillo's versus some fancy restaurant each time they visit. Say's something I think. read more

Absolutely hands down the SLOWEST Portillo's location!!! I recently started phoning in my lunch orders to try to make it quicker & I still wait 15 mins for a Beef! Take the extra time & go up to the Golf Rd Schaumburg location if you can to save time/aggravation. Either it's an employee or manager problem or both. Just get it fixed whatever it is! read more

I have been a life long Portillo's fan. I've had almost every item on their menu. NOW, with new ownership (Berkshire Partners) I'm questioning one of my favorite restaurants. We just returned from the Rolling Meadows, IL site for a Sunday evening dinner. Was going to use the drive through. WAY to long of a line awaited me. I've been in that line before and service was excellent. After sitting for a while and not moving, I decided to just run inside. No wait at the register. But waited quite a while for our food. UGH....Hot dog bun was soggy. Stuck to the wrapper. Greek salad looked and tasted like it had been made a day or two ago..NOT FRESH. Service was sloppy. Store was dirty, tables and especially the floor. Not the crisp, fresh, clean experience we came to expect from Dick Portillo, let alone the poor food quality. Not sure when we will be back. read more

Getting all of your order only 1/3 of the time is one disappointing aspect of this location, but trying to get the issue resolved is another. I come by around 1/2 hour before close. Maybe this is my mistake but I work late and I figure my money is the same to them no matter what time I come by. A couple of months ago, I received only 1/2 my correct order, and didn't realize until I got home. Perhaps that again is my fault for not doing their job and checking the bags. Since I go so close to closing time, I couldn't go back for a remake. I emailed customer service to get a refund, and their reply was that I had to have gone back to the location to get a refund. Which I couldn't do because they were closed when I discovered my order was wrong. I tried explaining but I never received a reply. After a couple of months I decided to give this place another try tonight. Again, only got half my order (no dressing for my salad and no burger) and didn't realize until I got home and they were closed. This whole company has gone downhill, from top to bottom and truly does not care about quality and customer satisfaction. read more

Can't go wrong with this restaurant when visiting Chicago. Went to the one in Arlington Heights and did not disappoint at all. Had the chocolate cake and it was delicious. The staff was friendly, the food came out quick. No line and cashier listen to my needs and did not rush me. Definitely worth the visit. Had the Italian beef with sausage dipped. It was delicious I probably won't have it dipped again. The restaurant is charming and great for family. read more

Portillos burger is amazing. I can say it can be one of my fav in Chicago. I have also tried the Chiken croissant which is very good. Their zigzagy fries are so good. The place gives you the feel like you are in 80-90s, which looks fantastic and bring back so many memories. I would recommend them to anyone new to chicago read more

Yum! Portillo's chocolate cake. Need I say more? I ordered a whole chocolate cake for my son's second birthday, along with the strawberry shortcake cake for our party. Not only are these two desserts the best things that have ever graced my lips; the customer service is OUTSTANDING. They (the catering side) are top-notch, even calling a few days later to ask how everything went. That's amazing! After I had my baby, all I wanted was a piece of their cake. It's that good. Sinful too! Bless them for making it. The strawberry shortcake is to die for. All the restaurants I have been to of theirs have the most awesome service. Even if the drive-thru is jam-packed, you get your food pretty fast. Inside, I am continually impressed with how customer-oriented they really are. Absolutely love the place! No wonder whenever I go to any Portillo's restaurant, I always ask if they are giving away something for free as there are SO MANY PEOPLE there. Cause they ROCK. Keep up the fantastic service, Portillo's. read more

OMG! Ordered Portillo's hot dog, Bacon Cheeseburger, fries, onion rings and 2 bottles of water $18.02. Food came really quick, sat at table inside, popped what used to be a glorious onion ring, to find it COLD! Tried one of my husbands fries---same thing cold, opened up my hot dog-cold, husband opened up cheeseburger--cold, cheese never melted. I thought this used to be a place that cooked the food for you, this was 12:45 pm on a Monday afternoon, the place was dead, it was liked they pre-made everything and just let it sit under the lights. Still need to contact either corporate or store manager, this did not sit well with us, this type of food quality. We threw out our food, it was inedible. Plus tables were dirty and salt shakers empty. I don't think a liquor license will help this location. Definitely poor management! read more

Absolutely horrible experience!! This portillos seems understaffed and they always mess up my order someway but this time was the worst by far. I stopped by yesterday night through the drive thru to wait 45 MINUTES in line to get my food. It wasn't until I asked a server handing out food to cars about my order that something was done. My order wasn't even registered correctly because she came back confused twice with orders that weren't mine. They had lost my order and probably handed it to someone else because they had to retake my order right then and there. On top of everything else when we did receive our order ir was wrong, we were missing one of our fries, cheese sauce, and burger, it's ridiculous. We tried calling the restaurant with no response, called today and they weren't even able to get a manager on the phone. Worst part is the guy who originally took my order never even handed me a receipt. Portillos is WAY too pricey to be messing up this bad, if they don't have enough people to fulfill orders within a reasonable time then they shouldn't be in business. read more

I was having a early lunch and the order taker was polite but I when I wanted a desert the young lady was avoiding me and refuse to help out so she said go back in line I'm not taking orders from anyone was kinda rude just so unprofessional and I ask to speak to a Mgr and Dale the Mgr just walked away from my conversation just rude like the second chance employees working at this dumpster get rid of second chance Dale read more

Ordered two salads and they repeated my order back correctly almost 5 times yet still gave me the wrong salad. Disappointed.

This place was happening and fun. The food is good for the price, but it lost serious points from me by trying to call fries-and-processed-cheese-dipping-sauce "cheddar fries." No. Just no. I suppose it's partially my fault for expecting real cheddar fries for $2.89, but you never know when you'll strike gold. It just wasn't here. The Italian beef was good (enough for 2 people) as was the crispy chicken sandwich on a croissant. Realistically, this is 3.5 stars, not 3. read more

I've been to many Portillos and have never been skimped on my chopped salad like this before. Great food for this chain, but this location clearly skimps on their salad. Sad. read more

How can you not like Portillo's? I remember the days when I didn't even know what Portillo's was...sad times. I hardly ever come here (only because it's not that good for you...but it tastes great!!), but when I do I go all out. Give me everything you have. Chocolate cake shake, a burger, and cheese fries. And they have wayyyyy more than that. Beefs, hot dogs, salads, soups, you name it! And the chocolate cake...seriously the best (they put mayo in it...no wonder). We have catered from this location for work events, and they are always great about packing things up neatly, helping us out to the car, and being on time (and of course the taste). I prefer this location over the one down the street on Golf. This one is much smaller, but the atmosphere is awesome - I feel like I have gone back in time to the 1950's and The Fonz could walk through the door at any moment. And they still have a drive-though (but they don't need the cops to direct traffic). The parking situation is a bit crowded, but I have always been able to find a spot. read more

If I could give this location negative stars, they would be a -Five. I visited this location on Sunday, September 18th about 4pm. Can't give the exact time as they conveniently did not give me a receipt. Oh, the oh so charming staff, did provide a "survey receipt" which oddly does not match the dollar amount on my credit card. The line in the drive through was not too long, yet the time was insane. That should have been my immediate clue to leave. It was a sign of the total incompetence of this location. Here is what I ordered: 1 Regular Beef, no peppers, Extra, Extra, Extra, Extra Juicy 1 Big Beef, no peppers, Extra, Extra, Extra, Extra, Extra juicy 1 hot dog, everything but peppers 1 Strawberry Shortcake Extra Gravy for both Beefs, as no matter how many times you tell them to drown it, it is still not wet enough for our tastes. After the extensive repeating of the order, I snaked through the line of 2 cars in front of me. After all this time in line, a worker appears outside to repeat the order and take the payment. My hot dog was not on the order, so it gets added and he gives me this BS story of how they double check to make sure the item is on the order and gets charged. He says often times its there but you don't get charged. I laugh, Portillo's has never failed to charge me, more likely charge and fail to deliver. When I finally make it to the window to collect the food, the "charming" clerk hands me the bag, with the beefs, hot dog and shortcake in one plastic bag, but the shortcake is touching the beef, why??? I look in the bag and find one tiny container half full of gravy and ask for more. After waiting nearly five minutes, a very rude woman who must have been pretending to be a manager, pops her head out of the window and hands me a larger container, again half full, and tells me they are not supposed to do this, blah, blah. If you would give me what I ordered, I would not have to ask for it. When I arrived home, as usual the beef were not wet enough. The hot dog tasted old and stale, there was no "snap" at the first bite. I would strongly advise anyone to stay away from this location. I suggest whomever owns, "manages" or benefits financially from this location, take the time to educate and train your staff on customer service. read more

If you've never had Portillo's chili, you really should. I'm not even joking, IDC how good you think the chili you make at home is, it won't compare to Portillo's chili. Replication is impossible, I have to get to the drive through once a week to get some. It's that good. Consistent flavor in multiple locations. Occasionally, I will have an Italian beef or burger. Portillos may be known for their food, but their service here at this location is horrible. They have multiple people ask you and take your order but by the time you get your food it is incorrect. This has occurred to me the past 3 times I have been there. The manager there or the key supervisors really don't seem to care! Great Customer Satisfaction there - NOT!!!! I will definitely tell my friends not to bother going to that one and pick another. Remember to check your orders before leaving even if they repeat correctly what you ordered. Doesn't matter, no one checks what is in your order but you should....... read more

Standard Portillos fare, food-wise. The parking lot is a really, really, really tight squeeze. Service was pretty slow - it was not very busy but we waited what I think was too long for fast food. I also noticed that the people in line in front of us only got part of their order. The seating area looked clean but was kind of sticky. The women's room was fairly tidy and the fries were fresh but not sure I'd go out of my way to go here again. read more

While your staff is always excellent, I've come to the realization that your food quality has failed. In the last week I have been by twice. Both times ordering an Italian beef w sweet peppers. The first time the Italian beef lacked flavor. I didn't mind this much as sometimes this may happen. Although uniformity in your product should be key. The second time I came by was about 5 days later. I ordered the exact same thing yet this time when I brought it home the Italian beef I bit into was nothing but fat. Each piece seem to be sliced from a fatty piece of meat in which I could not even bite through the sandwich. The resulting in all of the meat being fed to my dog. I have always been a fan of Portillo's however since the new ownership the quality has plummeted. I am sadly disappointed and no longer a fan. read more

If you want a great grilled cheese burger, crinkle cut fries, onion rings this is your place. During lent they offer pepper and egg, tuna sandwich on a pretzel or croissant and a grilled portobello sandwich. I've have had the pepper and egg and the tuna sandwich which were both excellent. Everything on the menu is great. Had the hot dog and fries today. Their chocolate cake with chocolate frosting is to die for. I am not a Big fast food eater but when I am looking for some high end fast food this is my place. You won't leave hungry. Enjoy! P.s. I like their tamales too. Oh and the beef sandwiches with hot peppers are to die for too. Like I said everything on the menu is outstanding. I get mine totally juicy. read more

There is absolutely nothing not to love about Portillo's. I've been eating Portillo's since I was a wee child and it is engrained in my blood. Everything they have is delicious, from the Italian beef (get it dipped and with peppers!), their hot dogs, and their burgers. I love their Maxwell Polish sausage, with grilled onions and mustards (like a brat). Their chopped salad is also very popular if you're more in the mood for a salad. Their chili cheese dogs are great, as are their plain hot dogs. They serve quality burgers that will make you want to come back for more! Their fries are delicious and my family is a huge fan of getting cheese fries. In addition, they have the best shakes and malts, especially considering malts are hard to come by nowadays! One of their shakes is called the chocolate cake shake where they take a slice of their chocolate cake and mix it into their shake... It's very hit or miss with people because the texture is weird, but I personally really like it! The star of the show for sure is their chocolate cake. So much so that I need to write about it in a separate paragraph. Portillo's chocolate cake is the best cake you will ever eat in your life. I've been requesting this cake for my birthday for years and years, and it never lets me down. It is extremely moist, with rich yummy frosting that would make even people who don't like frosting swoon!! read more

Living near NYC, I've only been accustomed to Gray's Papaya and Papaya King. I can't say I've had a Chicago Style hotdog before. Although I didn't try it during our recent Chicago trip, I did taste their chili cheese dog which I thought was excellent. The only time I've ever had a chili cheese dog was at Ben's Chili Bowl in DC which I would say is comparable. I was glad we were at least able to stop by one of their locations since apparently it is a thing to do while in Chicago. In addition, my family and I thought the ambiance was great. These retro type restaurants are far and few in between. My kids certainly got a kick out of the jukebox. Perhaps next time I'll try the Chicago style hotdog. We're definitely a fan and will be coming back. read more
