My boyfriend and I stopped by while we were in the neighborhood. We were the first customers in on a Sunday and were promptly seated. We ordered the entree sampler consisting of pierogies, kelbasa, and stuffed cabbage along with another pierogi sampler. We chose the cheese and potato, mushroom and potato, and mushroom and sauerkraut. It took a very long time for our order to come out (about 30 minutes) even though we were the only customers in the restaurant, and we actually ended up having to take the order to go. The pierogies were absolutely delicious. I enjoyed our fried kelbasa, but my boyfriend was not too big of a fan, and the stuffed cabbage was not my favorite. I have always wanted to come to this restaurant,and I finally did! I have never been to Polish restaurant,so I was very excited to finally try this place! Oh,every thing was DELICIOUS!! The food was AMAZING.The salad w beats,oh it was so yummy. The chicken meatballs w mushroom sauce was OMG,so good. I am also glad to see that they actually have " Polish people" working in this restaurant.They were friendly.Very cozy place. My wife and I went to Polonica after work one evening (Wed) and the restaurant was empty but for two elderly women. There was a steady stream of people coming in to speak to the owner, sell things, and pick up take out though, which was a bit irritating because they were all load and the restaurant is tiny. Our orders was quickly taken and the bread we were served was delicious. What we ordered - White Borscht - Very Good. Potato pancakes - not like grandmas, but delicious, served w/ Apple sauce. Pierogi - Potato/ cheese - very good, sever w/ sour cream and onions (sweeet onions) Chicken cutlet - Good. Beef Goulash w/ Kasha - Pretty good Salads - served w/ entree- delicious. Contained the best shredded carrots I ever had. What we liked: Overall the flavor and quality of the food was pretty good. The serving size was huge. You won't leave hungry for sure . The woman who waited on us was very nice and service was pretty quick. What we didn't like: Decor - This place needs some red and white decor, maybe red table cloths or something to remind you that you're in a polish restaurant. There is nothing Polish about the decorating. A little Poland would go along way. ( maybe even a red stripe on the plates, something please!) No ambiance here, we would love to see it spruced up a bit. The water pitcher was old and discolored. A bit tacky. I'm a fan of the food here. I like the pierogis, Ukranian borscht soup, and the pyzy with mushrooms (I'm a vegetarian). A lot of their entrees also come with sides of cabbage, beets, carrots, sauerkraut, and slaw. All are great accompaniment. I'm not a huge fan of beets but the borscht really won me over. I just wish their delivery didn't take so long. read more

I love this place! Food is consistently amazing and I've tried almost everything on the menu and I've liked everything I've tried. All the food is homemade and the owners are fabulous! Talk about a find. We moved to Bay Ridge a little over a year ago and found this place almost immediately. You can't make dinner cheaper then Polinca can serve it to you. The food is terrific and cozy feel of a 8 table restaurant is never neglected by me. We love the perogies and Hungarian Pancakes are our fav's, not to mention BYOB and a liquor store across the street. read more

Great hole in the wall. Warm up with any of their hot soups on a cold day. Follow up with delicious fried perogies, chefs blintzes (with fruit), or stuffed kielbasa. They have not changed their menu at all in twenty five years. It is the highest quality comfort food in the neighborhood. read more

heard about this restaurant from two different polish women. for dinner my hubby & I had typical polish food - huge bowl of barley soup that was so delicious i could have had another. the appetizers of spinach & potato pierogis were hot & plentiful - tasty too. 1 order of potato pancakes was 3 large... they bought out 2 dishes w/beautifully arranged small salads of yummy shredded red cabbage, sauerkraut, cole slaw, beets, carrots, & lettuce. i had the combo polish platter w/fried kielbasa, fried potato pierogies with onions, & 1 HUGE stuffed cabbage = portions were huge we took home 1/2 of each. grilled kielbasa wrapped in bacon & mashed potatoes was outstanding! the 2 crepes of cheese/strawberries, & 2nd apple was so good it took me back to my hubby's memories of his mom's crepes from Spain. we found our new favorite restaurant... good job polonica restaurant..... btw the service was excellent.....! read more

For any eastern european who want to feel like they just ate at babushkas house, this is definetly the place. Hearty, delicious dishes made to perfection. The variety of kraut is amazing. Portions are quite big so definetly come hungry. I will certainly eat here many more times to come! read more

I cannot believe I have not written a review for what is my favorite restaurant in Bay Ridge. As a pollack who grew up near no Polish neighborhoods, the extent of my Polish food knowledge was from my Babcia's cooking and the few dishes passed down using Esskay kielbasa. Oh man was I apparently missing out. This isn't just the Pole in me. This food is fantastic, hearty, filling and flavorful. I am always shocked it isn't more crowded than it is. The pierogis are fantastic and good either boiled or fried. The stuffed cabbage and stuffed peppers will fill you up and the meat mixture inside is fantastic. The kielbasi dinner is a staple and you can't go wrong with it. They also give you a great selection of side of slaw and pickled items to go with your meal. They do not serve alcohol but you can bring your own and not only will they not charge you for it, they will bring you wine or bottle openers and glasses. The couple who runs it are extremely nice people as well. I think everyone should try Polonica because I would be shocked if it isn't instantly one of your go-to places for a great meal. This place is great! Love the food here. The pirogi, fried with onion are so good! When I order my chicken cutlet, you can hear them banging them out in the kitchen. The soups are outstanding! The food is always fresh and delicious. I had gone one time to Greenpoint for some Polish food and what a waste of time and gas. Polonica's food blew Greenpoints restaurant away!!!! The owners are a great friendly couple. We always feel welcome. The owner made us some blintzes that were SUPER DELICIOUS!!!! Can't wait to go back for some more of those! read more

What a wonderful place, they accompanied my whole family and some guests, you can bring your own beverage and every meal is a delicious meal there is no wrong choice. Most of the food is fantastic. The soups are amazing. The pierogi is really great. The potato pancakes are also truly delicious. The Bigos was quite bad actually, but everything else I have tried has been wonderful. The service is slow because there is only one waiter and a ton of people order in from this place so even if no one is in the restaurant you still end up waiting a long time. Take my review with a grain of salt, I am not a fan of Polish food. I went for a friends birthday. The place is very small and very basic, The decor is "meh". Seems more of a take out, or cafe/diner style. Many of the people we saw come in, were picking up meals to go or just someone grabbing something and eating alone. They did let us bring in our own bottle. My friend went across the street and came back with a nice bottle of wine they corked for us. It really is my taste though. I am not a fan of this type of food. I believe our waitress was the owner and was sweet as can be. She took our order but did not bother us (small group of 4) as she knew we were celebrating a birthday. It actually was a good place for the group I was with as they tend to get loud and so it was not a place where we had to keep it down. Had some pierogis which were quite tasty and a stuffed kelbasa. I dont think that was the best choice for me but my friend had some and loved it. We also shared stuffed pepper which was quite good. I would definitely recommend this place to others. For me, I prefer different style of food though. Like I said, take my review with a grain of salt as Im not a fan of Polish Food. The owner though was the nicest woman. read more
