I've taken peacoats, heavy winter coats, sweaters, and more for repairs and every single item has come back looking brand new. The turnaround time is also slower than other places, but again - one woman doing great work - worth it! If you're driving, I recommend parking in the lot around the corner on 35th, just past Grand Central Bakery. The entrance to Blue Tulip is actually on 75th (despite the address being on 35th) and there's no real parking or room to turn around by the entrance!

I found this place randomly one day when I was browsing for a place to fix a jacket pocket of mine…read more I was traveling abroad and my jacket got caught in a drawer and ripped the top half of the pocket off the body of the jacket. I was devastated especially since this was a very old and good quality jacket from London Fog that belonged to my mom. I can't sew and this type of material definitely needed a professional as you would need to cut open the interior lining of the jacket to the sew the pocket together. I was browsing the website and saw that you could walk in on Saturday between 10am-4pm, which was perfect because it was Saturday! Otherwise you would need to make an appointment to drop your items off. I arrived at the store and it wasn't very busy which was good for me to do a quick drop off. It's a small store with changing rooms if you're doing alterations. I talked with the woman at the front about what I was needing and she explained what they would be doing to fix my jacket which was very reassuring since this was an important sentimental piece of clothing to me. Because it's the holiday season she did let me know that it could take anywhere from 2-3 weeks to fix this however it only took a 1.5 weeks which was great! You do need to make an appt or come by on Saturday for walk ins to pick up your items. I picked my jacket up and it was like the rip never happened! I'm very satisfied with the work and look forward to bringing in any more clothes that need some work done on them next time!

The only bathroom labeled (customers only) has been non-operational for nearly one year and eight months now. Not sure how to feel about what they are trying to communicate here. The cost of the machines has increased by one dollar, and the dryers have changed their pricing structure; they now offer 4 minutes of use for a quarter instead of the previous 5 minutes per quarter. With that being said I see decline in the cleanliness, it used to be kept well by the old man who managed this place but not sure who does it now the floors are a mess. Might be time to take business elsewhere where. They no longer do bill exchanges if that helps anyone.

Visiting their beautiful shop and going through the fittings, I felt like I was seeing true artists…read morein their element. Their professionalism and skill was borderline intimidating (in a good way). And I don't mean to imply they weren't warm; quite the opposite! I left each fitting glowing with confidence from their compliments and encouragement. As far as the work product is concerned, I was blown away. From fitting one to the final fitting, this dress was transformed. And it wasn't particularly easy -- my dress had tricky lace at the bottom that had to be hemmed without creating an ugly line. They did a gorgeous job of working around the design in a way that I actually think enhanced it overall. They showed me how to bustle the dress and let me take videos. They took a hundred photos for me. And again, the fit was perfection. In short -- get your alterations done here! You won't regret it.

This was my first time getting any type of alteration. I actually had my first fitting with them…read morewhen they were in West Seattle. They're now in Tacoma. It's in a residential area but the workspace is still separate from their living space. This isn't like a traditional bridal studio so I wouldn't bring all of your bridal party/family to your fittings, maybe just 1 - 3 other people. I got my dress used off of Still White. I'm only 5'0". The dress and the slip it came with were over a foot too long and impossible to walk in. I reached out to Lek and Beam to fix the hemline and add a bustle. I didn't know what a bustle was before researching wedding dress styles but it's a way to hang up the train of your wedding dress (usually after the ceremony) so that it's easier to walk/dance and doesn't get as dirty. Lek and Beam were easy to communicate with via email and text. They were also very thorough in-person to make sure that expectations were aligned before doing alterations. I felt that the pricing was very reasonable considering that my dress consisted of three layers that needed to be hemmed, they hemmed it so that it matched the outline of the embroidery (not just a straight hem), and they do a special way of bustling that hides the loops until they're ready to be used. They also fixed my slip straps and added a missing button for free. I received a number of compliments at my wedding specifically on how well my dress fit me! First fitting tips for alteration newbies like me: - bring the exact shoes, underwear (and/or pasties), shape wear, veil, jewelry, and accessories (ex: coverups) you are planning to wear on your big day. These can all impact the fit and styling of your dress. For example, if you're wearing a necklace, you can see where it falls in relation to the dress' neckline. - When buying a dress, it's better to size up to fit your largest measurement (whether it's bust, waist, or hips). It's much easier (and generally less expensive) to bring in a dress compared to letting it out. - consider leaving some space at the waist rather than it being skin tight. Remember that your waistline may change when sitting vs standing, after eating/staying hydrated, etc. - if you're getting a bustle, try to bring a couple of key people to your final fitting so that they can practice bustling and unbustling your dress. It can be tricky! All of my bridal party and family are in Hawai'i so I made sure to take a video of Beam showing how to bustle, and Beam also had me try to do it myself too.
