Very simple hemming of a dress was $60! I was expecting about half of that based on the job, and the man that works there quoted me $45 so I went ahead and left the dresses and when I picked the 3 dresses up my bill was $180. I was shocked and questioned him. He said it was difficult bc the material was stretchy. It wasn't anything super stretchy, just a cotton spandex mix with a little give. Oh yay! She was able to clean a really cute doily-looking shirt that my BF bought me! It had blackish marks from who knows what. She couldn't promise that she'd be able to take them out but I thought to give it a try. Normally I check Yelp before going to a new place. I did this one on a whim and didn't check. But I knew right when I walked in that she does a good job. It feels so clean and organized. And hearing her talk to customers, I could tell she is caring. She also does alterations. If the customer who helped me tuck my newly cleaned shirt into my jacket so I could bike home safely reads this review, I'd like to say thank you! The shirt got home in tack. This isn't the cheapest dry cleaner in the city, but it has great prices for the quality they provide. I was taking my work shirts here for a year and a half and they made my disgusting white shirts look like new every time. I took in an old members only jacket that I wanted to get cleaned for years and it came out looking like new. Now I can look like I stepped fresh out of the 1980s every time I go out. The staff is pretty friendly and it is the same family doing all of the dry cleaning. I was always happy with their work, so if you have something special you want dry cleaned really well, go visit them. read more

I have been going to Surf since I moved into the neighborhood three years ago. They are lovely people and do good work - including their tailoring. The bottom fell out, however, when I pulled a two piece white suit out of my closet and packed it for a funeral. When I took it out of the plastic for the first time since bringing it home from the dry cleaners I noticed that not only was the large stain still very much evident, but now there was a rip in the fabric. No one told me when I dropped it off that it would be difficult, no one told me when I picked it up that the stain did not come out - let alone that they ripped it in the process. I took it back to Surf, not because I thought they could fix it, but because I believe they owe me restitution. The woman told me repeatedly that she had a conversation with me when I dropped it off explaining that the stain might not come out. She also claimed that the same conversation happened when I picked it up. She also then said it was ripped when I dropped it off. When I assured her that it was not and asked what could have caused it on their end, she admitted that sometimes the cleaning process on a tough stain can weaken the fabric and she offers to hand stitch for me. It will not help I say, because the stain is too noticeable on a white skirt. Then she says she's going to look it up because she knows for a fact that she put notes in the file when she called me to tell me it would not come out and again when she talked to me when I picked it up - neither of which happened. But then, magically, she says she cannot find it in their system at all and that I must be lying. I must have taken it to another cleaner and am apparently trying to pin it on them. I am shocked, disappointed, and seriously angry. We have spent hundreds and maybe thousands of dollars on dry-cleaning and alterations there over the last three years and now I'm accused of scamming them? Suffice it to say, my response was curt, involved a four letter word and was immediately followed by me hanging up on them. Never again. So . . . who's got a good rec on a new cleaner, preferably one where they don't accuse you of lying and charge a ridiculous amount. read more

Spectacular. That's not really a word I'd normally associate with dry cleaning, but it fits. I needed to get a jacket taken in a bit and dry cleaned, okay, standard request, right? Not only was their turnaround very fast, but the person behind the counter remembered me when I came to pick up - she had it picked off a rack and ready before I'd said anything more than "I'm here to pick up a jacket." Speaking of that taken in bit - unreal. I figured it'd look better than before, and wasn't expecting much beyond that, but it's basically a perfect fit now. Tailored look for low price, I guess, but you're not hearing me complain. Fast turnaround, great value for my dollar, and excellent customer service? That's pretty much unbeatable. read more

Dry cleaning isn't the most exciting business, and is too expensive in Seattle generally, but this is as good as it gets. The service is friendly, the turnaround time very quick when necessary (I usually just ask what works best for them since I'm not in a rush), and the quality excellent. I once brought in a dress shirt with a few broken buttons on it (broken by a previous dry cleaner in Redmond), and it came back with brand new buttons on it! The only slightly negative experience I had was when they gave me a coupon (printed on a receipt) for my next visit. When I went in to redeem it, another lady was working that day and didn't know about the coupon, and didn't seem to believe me because she had never seen it before! She made me come back later to talk to the first person (who I believe is the owner) who gave me the discount and let me keep it so I could use it again. So all was right in the end :) read more

I couldn't be happier with my experience here at Surf Cleaners. Friendly service, fast cleaning, decent prices and convenient! I was in a pinch...my lovely sweet little dog had apparently eaten something that he shouldn't have, and it thus came back up later that night, right on my nice, expensive, dry clean only comforter. I tried cleaning it myself, to no avail. In an effort to air out the smell until I had time to get it to a dry cleaner resulted in it smelling up my entire house of dog vomit. So, there I am on a Sunday morning, my house wreaks of puke and I have some very important company coming the next morning. I begin calling dry cleaners in the area, all of which are closed. Then I call Surf Cleaners. I was shocked when someone answered, I thought maybe I dialed wrong. The lady who answered was very friendly, explained to me the pricing. I asked her if she was open today. She said she was not, but asked if I would like to drop it off really quick. I told her I'd be there in 10! When I got there, she was still pleasant as ever. Very friendly and personable. I had a coupon, but it was not valid on special orders (ie puke stains), so instead she waived the special stain removal fee. Still, it was way cheaper than many other places charge (I was charged around $25, others were charging $40+). Then she told me she could have it ready for me on Wednesday. Wow! The last place that cleaned it took 10 business days. I then kept forgetting to pick it up. When I did finally pick it up, she remembered who I was, what I was coming for and exactly where my comforter was. This really impressed me, as you just don't see that kind of service much anymore. Especially not after just one visit. She even had my favorite butterscotch candies! As I left, I wished her a good day and that I hope she finishes up her work so she can enjoy at least some of her weekend. She told me that she loves her job and doesn't mind being here. Dang! Beyond frustrated. I've been taking my work shirts and pants here for years. Every time I went in for drop off, they had my phone number or name wrong in the system. Even had a few shirts come back with the elbows ripped, but I had never paid enough attention at the time to see if they were torn before or after the cleaning, so I always let it go. That should have been my sign though. This takes the icing right off the cake for me however: before moving out of state, I had some water damage in my house that caused a 40+ year old suit of my grandfather's to get moldy. I took it in to see what they could do, and both me and the lady at the counter knew it was grim. They took it anyway, and I hand wrote my correct phone number on the ticket to have her read it back to me and confirm it. 2 weeks is what she said, and a $30.00 deposit as I wouldn't be in town in 2 weeks to pick it up. I even gave her the name of my friend that would pick it up in my absence. After some deliberation though, I decided it was worth it for me to stay in town an extra week just to pick up the suit since it meant so much, family heirloom and all. (I cancelled plans and burdened my friends staying at their house for this suit all while spending money I could have otherwise saved for the move). So 2 weeks pass and I go in expecting to pick up a clean suit and was excited to do so since I otherwise didn't hear anything from them. Low and behold, I do get my suit back, but in the same exact condition as I left it 2 weeks ago. It had been sitting on their closet floor in a plastic bag because they wanted to show my friend a rip in the liner they wanted to fix before cleaning it. Nice as that is, I stared at the ticket with my phone number written on it and asked "why didn't you call me?" I've literally wasted time and money and my friend's time and money because you couldn't pick up the phone. You know what my friend would have done when they picked it up? They would have called me to ask what to do like a reasonable thinking person would. I'm glad I'm moving and won't ever have to worry about taking my business here again. You may think I just sound salty, but you don't understand the stresses I've endured staying in Seattle this extra week for absolutely nothing other than a waste of my life. Good riddance. read more

I really wanted to like this places after reading the other yelp reviews. However paying close to $100 for dry cleaning 2 scarves and 2 peacoats was a just a little too rich for my blood. I appreciate they use non-toxic cleaners which I understand is more expensive. However my peacoats and scarves were not dirty, did not have any stains, or require $100 worth of dry cleaning services. I was appreciative of the new customer discount but in the future I will be taking my dry cleaning elsewhere unfortunately. read more

Most dry cleaners in this city outsource their tailoring business and consequently the turn around time for these services is very long. Not here. I stumbled in expecting to get my shirts which needed alterations back in 3-4 weeks. But when I walked in I saw a sewing machine in the background. I dropped off 2 shirts which I needed altered from a shirt with cuff links to a shirt with buttons. This entailed hemming the cuffs quite a bit and stitching it back up to look as if it had always been this way. The work was impeccable. These were expensive shirts and the tailoring job had the same quality of work. The best thing was that it only took a week. read more

I've never had anything short of a great experience here. They are very accommodating to last minute requests when they can be. Their cleaning quality is great, their hemming and sewing and patching are all great, and the woman is incredibly sweet and pleasant to work with. Would give negative stars if I could. I took an extremely special family heirloom quilt here to be cleaned. I explained how important it is to me and how nervous I was to have it cleaned. The woman assured me she would take care of it... I come to pick it up - it is utterly ruined, 3/4 of it is now completely undone. I burst into tears upon seeing this. I demand a refund and for it to be fixed. She will not give me a refund but tells me to come back in a couple of weeks and it will be fixed. I come back to check on it a couple weeks later and she hasn't even started working on it. I'm furious, but understand. I come back later, well over a month after dropping it off. She lies to me and tells me she just started on it. I ask to have it back and see that nothing has been done to it. Hopeless, I demand my money back and after much debate and more tears from me she refunds me. It's going to cost me hundreds and hundreds of dollars to fix this. How can a professional cleaner have no idea what will happen to certain fabrics if they're cleaned? After inspecting it why not just tell me you don't think it's a good idea to clean it? This was a couple months back, if my life hadn't been so hectic at the time (moving, having a baby) I would have sued this awful woman and establishment, unfortunately I think it's too late. I had been going for about 2 years now (normally a great experience). I brought a shirt in for dry cleaning, when I went to pick the shirt up, there was a huge stain on the front of the shirt (not there before I dropped it off). I asked them to try and get the stain out, but they told me they could not. When asking to speak with the manager, I was always told she was out, so asked for the manager to call me back. After 3 months of going in and calling, the shirt was not cleaned, the manager finally reached out to me, they told me it was my fault, and that it could not have been them. I will not being back, and maybe you should not either. read more

For as long as I've been going here, I've never had any issues with the staff and they usually do a great job with dry cleaning and alterations. But just recently they have started increasing their prices. It's honestly less the price but how they tell their customers about it. It's been the third time now where I've gotten something altered, they quote me for a price and when I return to pay, they've up charged me for WAY MORE than what they quoted me for. This is not ok. I think it's super shady and deceiving to customers. The up charge was "the dress had a wider bottom, so it was much harder" is not really a valid excuse for how difficult something should be. Regardless, they did not notify me of a possible additional up charge beforehand and shouldn't you know how much work something will take if you're the one doing it yourself?? On top of it all, one of the ladies that work there could have cared less about the whole thing. Never going back here again. read more

They are cheaper than many and they did a fine job. The reason I'm only giving three stars is because they wrote my name on my shirts IN PERMANENT MARKER. Not on the tag, mind you, on the shirt. The marker bled through to the front of the shirt in a few instances. The problem that I have with this is that they never asked me if it was okay to do this. I just received many shirts back that had my name bleed through the shirt. If you want to use Surf, make sure you clarify that this is NOT OK. read more

We thought this place was fine until since we had just used them for basic dry cleaning. My wife got a bridesmaid dress altered there and they royally screwed it up and would not own up to it whatsoever. After spending $75 on the alteration, it came back hemmed incorrectly and fitted WAY too tight around the chest area. They tried fixing the hem part, but could do nothing about the upper dress area. My wife got in an argument with the worker who kept repeating "it is fine", she asked for the owners contact info and was not given it. It's my first time using Surf and I'm impressed. My boyfriend uses them often and recommended I do the same. I dropped off a wool coat I found at Goodwill that needed the collar repaired and a good cleaning. They managed to find the exact same material, repaired the collar, went the extra mile by removing all the pills/ fixing the tiny tears and now I have a brand new, $300 coat for a total of $100 ($30 for a damaged coat and $70 for cleaning and repairs). I am new to the neighborhood and the lady behind the counter actually said "welcome" and asked if I had any questions about my new digs - she was incredibly friendly.
