Amazing alteration job and friendly owners!! I brought in a genuine cowhide leather jacket with cape style sleeves which were too large and needed about 5 inches of hemming. It was such a complicated construction that no seamstress in downtown Seattle wanted to take it on, as real leather needs a special sewing machine and there was also a zipper and a button flap going over the sleeves. I found Bon Ton and brought it in after a phone consultation, and I'm SO happy with the results! They preserved the runway design of the jacket perfectly and every detail had an incredibly professional finish. I couldn't be happier and I'm so glad I chose them. 100% recommend. read more

Update: Downgrading from two stars to one. The owner (?) reached out and told me to come back in so they could fix things. When I did, he told me there was nothing wrong with the jeans and kept repeating the phrase, "This REALLY bothers you?" He also insisted no other tailors would be able to get a straight hem on a jean. He said they could redo it but I said based on the previous work and the fact that he didn't see anything wrong, I didn't want them working on my jeans again. He asked me what I wanted and I said I thought a discount on the work would be appropriate. He started laughing. Waiting for the imminent response from him in which he says I'm a crazy idiot. If you've ever wondered what could possibly go wrong with simply getting some jeans hemmed, the answer is....quite a lot. I brought in four pairs. Two, they insisted on doing an "original" hem even though I told them not to. When I got back the four pairs of jeans one of the regular hems was curved but passable and one was extremely slanted/crooked on one leg and curved on the other. As for the "original" hems, one pair had a a super curved hem on one leg and a hem so wobbly it was like an S curve on the other leg. Both pairs were about an inch longer than they were supposed to be. Most problematic was that the "original" hem cause the hem to be so stiff that it sticks out wildly like there's boning in it. Both pairs of jeans were skinny cut and now it looks like they have little hula hoops in the hem, jutting out in ridiculous fashion. If they were cropped enough it wouldn't be as bad, but they're not. In their current state, neither are what I would call wearable. The stitching is also wobbly and crooked with threads sticking out and areas that have sloppily been overstitched. One pair even has legs that are very different lengths and another has a large stain/mark right in the center on the front that wasn't there before. I don't want to be over the top and claim they totally ruined my clothing or anything, but I paid them money to make four pairs of jeans better and they are all now objectively worse. read more

Total rip off, terrible service, why pay money on dry cleaning when they clearly don't care about return customers, they just care about ripping people off. It was originally $90, $100 with tax until I came back in and asked why it was so expensive. Nothing was explained to me why, so you dropped it to $40, then hiked it back up to $75. I've come to realize that, as my fashion sense improves, so does the bill - and not just because of pricier clothing, but also because of the increased cost of caring for them. Dry cleaning is a new concept for me, and after some pricing comparisons, I settled on Bon Ton for all of my dry cleaning needs. The folks here are quick and cheap - even more so with the 5% Yelp discount. Having a jacket dry cleaned ran me about $9, while having a full suit cleaned ran me about $14, both of which were much lower than the quotes I got for a handful of other shops in the area. read more

I've had good experiences with Bon Ton before, but was disappointed the last time I went in. I brought a dress that they had hemmed a few weeks before but the dress ripped right away (the first time I wore it after Bon Ton hemmed it). Instead of offering to repair it for free or a discount, they tried to charge me more to hem it again even after I explained that their first hemming fell apart right away. I also brought in a wedding dress to clean and was quoted $350 for it. That seemed pretty expensive so I walked away. Since then, at least two other cleaners have been willing to clean it for way less ($200). I think they've been charging more now than they used to and the pricing seems so opaque and random. I'll be going elsewhere from now on. read more

The two ladies who work here are wonderful, but the owner (I think Bruce is his name, guy with glasses, is an asshole). I'd been loyally going to his shop for over 2-3 years and on a couple occasions I got back a shirt that was a little dirty still, or had a rip or tear that wasn't there before I brought the shirt. When requesting that the shirt be washed again or the rip or tear be repaired, he would always accuse me of causing the issue or question my motive, as if I'm trying to get over on him for $2.55 (that's what it costs to wash a shirt), and every time I would come in, he would greet me coldly and give me a look like he was annoyed I was there. He would rarely make conversation and always inspected shirts as if with a magnifying glass so that he would avoid taking ownership for any tiny mistake. I still went there despite this subpar customer service, because the ladies there were so nice. Last Friday (01/03/2020), I brought 10 brand new shirts in that still had tags on. The young lady, as always was very courteous and let me know it would be no problem to remove them; I had offered to beforehand. Bruce came out front from the back and did his routine inspection of every item even though I mentioned they were all new. When I left, I noticed my cost on the ticket was about $10 extra. I asked if he had increased the price per shirt and he said the extra charge was a fee for removing the tags. I asked him why he would do that and he said it takes extra time to do that (like what? An extra 10 seconds per shirt?). I once again offered to just cut them off myself and he gave me a scissors. I was in a rush to be somewhere and accidentally cut into one of the shirts and created a hole. I was pretty annoyed at this point. I asked Bruce if he could repair the hole and he said he could patch it up at default cost (like $8 to patch up the hole). I'd had enough at this point and asked to have all the shirts back and just left. Won't be coming back here ever again and if any of your laundered items come back not exactly the same way they were when you dropped them off, good luck having any sort of cordial interaction with him. read more

Brought in a couple of sweaters that have been passed down by a family member that had a ton of stains on them. They made it clear they have tried everything but anything further would've damaged the wool. One looked noticeably better and one still had a couple deep stains on it. I don't blame them as these stains probably happened at least 10 years ago. My collared shirt looked brand new again. On had a hole in the front (that the manager insisted was already there, but just got bigger after dry cleaning) and another had a the tag ripped off in one corner (the second time this has happened). They offered to sew both, not that much could really be done. I must give another shout out to the wonderful ladies at Bon Ton. They do awesome work, quickly and with great care. In the last year, I've brought in a bunch of stuff for dry cleaning, tailoring, and repair. My favorite Bon Ton moments/services: 1. They turned a rarely worn pair of jeans into my new favorites! The jeans had been butchered by another tailor who expertly reattached the original hem, but put them up an inch too short. I brought them in to Bon Ton to get the width of the legs narrowed and to see if the hems could be brought back down. Done and done, and very well I might add. 2. Button re-attachments at no charge. Yay! 3. 35+" hems on several pairs of jeans are now the perfect barely-grazing-the-ground length for me and my 4+" heels. They get it right EVERY time. Turnaround is still quick, service is consistently friendly, and prices can't be beat. I am so happy to have a trusted, highly competent tailor and dry cleaner in my neighborhood. read more

Bon Ton is pretty good. My most recent experience with them kind of soured my overall opinion though. I dropped off my wedding dress to be clean. After being put through the paces of an outdoor wedding, it had accumulated dirt along the hemline. The woman running the place took a look and said she'd do her best to get the dirt out. Fast-forward a week later, I went to pick up my dress and the woman said she had to wash it to get the dirt out. My formally matte silk dress had a bright sheen to it from laundering. It doesn't look terrible, but it doesn't look like the dress I got married in either. Most of the dirt stains were removed, but I found a couple of leaves and brambles still attached to the hem. During the same trip I picked up my winter coat. It had a wooden charm attached to the zipper pull (a gift from my dad) that, in retrospect, I probably should have removed before dropping the coat off. The charm was destroyed during dry cleaning, and I didn't notice until I got home. They could have mentioned that to me when I picked it up. They've done a fine job with my other garments in the past, but I just don't trust them now. And I definitely wouldn't recommend them for items that require more thoughtful care. read more
