However, calling and trying to schedule an appointment with his team this time was a different story. I worked with "Abbie" by text. This was true even when I tried phoning her as the texting was extending over days (from Friday to Monday to Sunday). I understand that scheduling can be tricky. However, I kept asking to be scheduled and to be given the updated pricing. My feeling was that they were simply too busy to bother or their communication skills were subpar. When the pricing came through, the $50 travel fee became $75 ten minutes later. Yesterday I wrote a 5 Star Review for a local business. I don't think I've ever written a one star review before. However the defensiveness and mansplaining I received has led me to understand that this business has changed, and not for the better. I write this after no less than 20 messages from the business. Update: the owner has called me and texted me that they have "remained courteous" which is not my complaint. My complaint is that they were not communicating well. I am happy to share my text chat to prove it. "Revision on trip charge to $75 since it increased in 2020." This came in less than 10 minutes after a $50 charge was told to me. Finally, it was 2023 when I last worked with them as is seen on my last review of this business.

This is a 50-year-old heirloom where each piece has a story, and it is an ongoing project. Given there were signs everywhere emphasizing their no-strinkage safety with cotton fabrics, I stupidity trusted it. It returned shrunk, each tiny piece slightly smaller and buckled, therefore not matching the ongoing work at home, and many pieces ripped off. AND the tiny stain still remained. I had a near heart attack. Staff insisted they could "fix it". I returned take 2, stain still there, but quick shoddy repair of ripped pieces and they (kindly) insisted I did not have to pay for their mistake. Then, I spent 2 weeks at home re-calibrating to the shrunk piece, and another week removing ruined torn pieces (some were over a 100 years). Lesson learnt. NEVER take a vintage piece to any dry cleaner! A month on, I was still working on repairs.

JOHNS CLEANERS RUINED MY RUG AND REFUSES TO REIMBURSE…read more I dropped off a rug to be cleaned at John's Cleaners on Richmond Beach Road and after two weeks with no call from them, went by to pick it up. The ends of the rug are completely sheared off, the color is faded and it smells burned. John reminded me twice that he didn't charge me (for the "service" of ruining my rug, I guess?) and blamed the whole debacle on defective glue. This is a well-made wool rug from Schoolhouse Electric that is less than two years old. He is refusing to replace it. I am not sure what I am going to do - not looking for suggestions or angry rants. I feel very stuck and frustrated and I just sincerely want to warn people not to take their rugs there. Mistakes happen but his refusal to take responsibility is pretty surprising to me. Ironically, here is a quote from his website: Welcome to John's Cleaning and Laundry Service, where we do all cleaning on premises. No excuses. No one to blame. Your buck stops here. She began shaking it to open up the sleeve and the owner yelled at her to stop because he didn't want dust in his store. She said they weren't dusty she was just trying to straighten out the sleeve.
