Visiting their beautiful shop and going through the fittings, I felt like I was seeing true artists in their element. Their professionalism and skill was borderline intimidating (in a good way). And I don't mean to imply they weren't warm; quite the opposite! I left each fitting glowing with confidence from their compliments and encouragement. As far as the work product is concerned, I was blown away. From fitting one to the final fitting, this dress was transformed. And it wasn't particularly easy -- my dress had tricky lace at the bottom that had to be hemmed without creating an ugly line. They did a gorgeous job of working around the design in a way that I actually think enhanced it overall. They showed me how to bustle the dress and let me take videos. I felt like a queen in my wedding dress! Beam tailored it expertly after listening to how I wanted it to fit and offering recommendations. I didn't think my dress needed too many adjustments at first, but looking back it was at least a size too big for me (see before pic included with this review). I was a little worried that the dress style I picked could look too nightgown-ish, but with Beam's changes it fit perfectly and looked polished and glamorous. I couldn't stop smiling at our second fitting when I saw and felt how much better it fit my body. She even made the bust work with my itty bitties (iykyk) by taking out extra fabric, remaking the shoulders, and adding the proper sized cups so I didn't even need to wear a bra. Her work is meticulous and the final product was gorgeous. She also gave me a recommendation to a quality dry-cleaner, as I bought my dress used and it had a few marks on it. She provided an itemized estimate at our first meeting and gave me the option to add additional changes later after I had time to decide whether I wanted them without pressure. She even texted me pictures of what two different types of bustles would look like on my actual dress so I could make an informed decision. Beam is talented and very sweet. This was my first time getting any type of alteration. I actually had my first fitting with them when they were in West Seattle. They're now in Tacoma. It's in a residential area but the workspace is still separate from their living space. This isn't like a traditional bridal studio so I wouldn't bring all of your bridal party/family to your fittings, maybe just 1 - 3 other people. I got my dress used off of Still White. I'm only 5'0". The dress and the slip it came with were over a foot too long and impossible to walk in. I reached out to Lek and Beam to fix the hemline and add a bustle. I didn't know what a bustle was before researching wedding dress styles but it's a way to hang up the train of your wedding dress (usually after the ceremony) so that it's easier to walk/dance and doesn't get as dirty. Lek and Beam were easy to communicate with via email and text. They were also very thorough in-person to make sure that expectations were aligned before doing alterations. I felt that the pricing was very reasonable considering that my dress consisted of three layers that needed to be hemmed, they hemmed it so that it matched the outline of the embroidery (not just a straight hem), and they do a special way of bustling that hides the loops until they're ready to be used. They also fixed my slip straps and added a missing button for free. I received a number of compliments at my wedding specifically on how well my dress fit me! First fitting tips for alteration newbies like me: - bring the exact shoes, underwear (and/or pasties), shape wear, veil, jewelry, and accessories (ex: coverups) you are planning to wear on your big day. These can all impact the fit and styling of your dress. For example, if you're wearing a necklace, you can see where it falls in relation to the dress' neckline. - When buying a dress, it's better to size up to fit your largest measurement (whether it's bust, waist, or hips). It's much easier (and generally less expensive) to bring in a dress compared to letting it out. - consider leaving some space at the waist rather than it being skin tight. Remember that your waistline may change when sitting vs standing, after eating/staying hydrated, etc. - if you're getting a bustle, try to bring a couple of key people to your final fitting so that they can practice bustling and unbustling your dress. It can be tricky! All of my bridal party and family are in Hawai'i so I made sure to take a video of Beam showing how to bustle, and Beam also had me try to do it myself too. read more

I brought my wedding dress here to be altered to fit by suggestion of Blue Sky Bridal. My first fitting was in October of 2024 to be finished in time for my out-of-state wedding in March of 2025. I had three fittings total and one final pick-up date. The dress had a lot of extra fabric, so they tailored it to fit my height better and to remove some of the inner layers that added extra volume to the bottom of the dress. Lek is a master pattern maker who is teaching her daughter the ropes. I bought my wedding dress about 6 months before the wedding and incorporated strength training into my workouts a few weeks later. I ended up putting on a lot more lean muscle, and the dress that was just a little big before became HUGE on me. I gave them a big job--taking about six inches off the waist, shortening the skirt, shortening the bodice, bringing in the sides--and Lek and her daughter did a BEAUTIFUL job. I felt comfortable and confident day of, and the dress fit me perfectly! If I had to do it all over again, I'd commission a custom gown from her, as I've seen other gowns she's designed and they are STUNNING. I wanted a tea-length wedding dress, but that was hard to find in bridal shops, so I bought a full length gown and planned for alterations instead. Beam and Lek turned my vision into an absolutely gorgeous reality! They took such care with the dress and all the complicated lace details, including taking in the shear and lace back and removing and reattaching the fringe lace trim to the bottom lace layer. I lost a significant amount of weight between the time of my first fitting and the wedding, and Beam and Lek made sure the dress fit perfectly before the big day, making last minute fixes to the fit for me. The dress looked amazing, and I felt amazing. They turned the dress I bought off the rack into a dress made for me. I felt confident and comfortable and beautiful at my wedding. I'm including photos, but they can't give true justice to Lek's and Beam's work. They are skilled craftspeople and handled delicate details with such dexterity and care. I was looking to get my wedding dress altered, and I found Beam from Yelp. I submitted an appointment request on their website, and Beam was very responsive and quick to schedule the appointment. I showed up, and Beam got to work on my dress, noting the new hem lines, taking it in, etc. After about 30 minutes of her marking the changes, we sat down to discuss prices. Beam quoted me over $2,000 to alter my wedding dress! My wedding dress alone cost less. I was shocked because I expected alterations to be around $600-$900 (which was comparable to my research online and what my friends had paid to get their dresses altered). We were not able to land on an agreeable price, and I was still charged roughly $140 fee for the hour long session. I asked for a refund after the fact (as no work was actually done on my dress), and Beam declined. The point of me writing this review is to make you aware of her prices. I have no doubt that her work is great given everyone's reviews, but no one mentions the price. For additional context, I was able to get my wedding dress altered for $700 using a different tailor. read more

My journey to finding a seamstress simply started with refusing to go to David's Bridal where I purchased my dress! I wanted to make sure my dress was done correct the first time around since I only had 6 months until my wedding, so I did my research and found these lovely ladies! They do their work in their home so if you are thinking you'll get a luxury experience this is not the place for you. However, if you want to make sure your dress is in the best hands possible AND have that homey family vibe this is the place for you. I am 4'11 so they had to take several inches off my dress which was 5 layers of fabric in total, they reconstructed the back to allow for my larger chest and added larger breast pads. Not only that but she took flowers from the extra fabric and completely customized the back of my dress to hide everything! They did a 3 point bustle on my dress which did not previously exist and hid it so easily. All the loops and hooks for the bustle were almost difficult to find because she blended them so perfectly with my dress! Over all these girls made my experience so seamless and I never had a doubt in my mind of their capabilities. If you choose Sunrise Couture you will meet with the girls to try on your dress, they will mark and pin everything they need to for their own records. Then she will take the dress and work on it for however long she needs, we then touched base about two weeks before I left for Cancun to do a final fitting. Here is when we learned the dress was still a hair too long so she kept it for another two or three days to fix it. I picked it up about a week before Mexico and it fit like a DREAM! They brought it in while maintaining the structure of the dress that drew me to it in the first place.
