Most of the business here is for wedding attire it seems and that's understandable - major city, lots of people getting married. Sometimes though if you're like me, far from that, you just need a tailor to repair some clothes. In my case I had a couple pairs of pants with popped buttons. I dropped them off and the lady, perhaps Elsta, was kind. She took my info and told me I should hear back in 5 days and took down my info. She did warn me that if I did not hear back, to call. I understand it gets busy here, the rack when you walk in is loaded with clothes and another with dresses. I came back in a week later as I got busy and was close by coming off work and it was not ready. The lady was very apologetic and told me it would be ready the following day. Sure, enough I got a text the following afternoon to come pick up. The pants were nicely and tightly rebuttoned. Only cost $11 which is less than I expected. I came here to get my wedding dress altered and Margot did an amazing job and was so informative and educational in the process. From start to finish, it took about 2 months for my dress to be finished (that included time when I was out of town so I couldn't come in for a try-on). Margot was very clear that she would not perform any alterations that I do not 100% agree and sign off on. She also gives her best opinion and is not afraid to speak up and show me why she doesn't think something is a good idea or not. Margot shortened the straps of my dress, reduced the cups by 2 sizes, tightened up the bust area (had to undo the applique and then put it back in), shortened the torso to reduce bunching of the fabric in the waist area, and took out the top lace layer just a tad in the hip area (was slightly too tight). We didn't do anything to the hem; instead I just increased my shoe height by 1-2 inches (she said it would be such a waste to charge me for hemming when I could fix that issue by wearing taller shoes. She's honest). Lastly, Margot added a GORGEOUS French bustle to my dress which looked amazing. Any seamstress can sew a bustle for you, but a truly spectacular seamstress will know which bustle is the best for your dress and Margot went above and beyond. The best part of all of these alterations is that Margot did these in such a way that everything could be taken back out to the original size if needed. Eltsa is my fairy godmother. I searched endlessly for a wedding gown and ended up purchasing a designer gown that was no longer available in stores. I chose a vintage style satin gown cut on a bias. It was baggy in the waist and bust, and I needed it to be shortened in length and bustled. I first took the gown to Freestyle Custom Alterations based on excellent Yelp reviews. They informed me that because my dress was made from such a delicate fabric, and because it was cut on a bias, it was impossible to alter. The warned me that other alterations shops might tell me they could alter it, but that they would surely completely ruin the gown if I let them try. My gown was one of my bigger wedding purchase splurges, and it wasn't returnable. I left in tears. THANK GOODNESS I didn't listen to Freestyle Custom Alterations and decided to take my gown to Eltsa Custom Sewing instead. It was true that my gown was incredibly difficult to alter, but Eltsa painstakingly made small change by small change. I believe I had eight fittings in all, and the end result was nothing short of magic; you'd never have know it wasn't made specifically for my body. Eltsa even used one of my bras, cut it up, and sewed it inside the dress. I was not even able to wear seamless underwear without the seam showing, my dress was so delicate - and yet somehow, Eltsa managed to make my bra completely undetectable through the fabric. I had a separate skirt and top for my wedding. I needed my skirt shortened quite a bit as I didn't want much of a train, and I wanted some straps for the corset top to break up the line of my shoulders. I also asked for the "scarves" in the back to hide my back a bit. Everything worked out very well and Marina worked very hard to get the hem even. Bride's worst nightmare! Came to Eltsa to reduce the bust of my wedding dress, however I received what seemed to be a totally different dress. During 3 of my 5 fittings, the top portion of my dress was completely deconstructed with cuts and pins made everywhere. It wasn't until my 4th fitting when I saw my dress sewed back together and it was NOT the dress I had once fallen in love with. I asked the seamstress to put the original pads back into the dress since I did not want to walk down the aisle with my nips showing. She replied with "It looks better without it." Throughout the process, my suggestions and envision of what I wanted my dress to look like was not put into consideration. The seamstress did what she thought looked best. I was not allowed to pick up my dress early and had to pay full price to receive my dress. I was fortunate enough to find another seamstress who fixed my dress 3 days before my wedding. When I reached out to her, she asked how she could help make my dress look perfect, she made time to fix it with a short notice, and reassured me. I am so grateful to her. This is my go-to alterations place for all of my formal wear. The women that have helped me hem and adjust my dresses are always so nice and friendly. It's a small place with 2 dressing rooms, a seating area, and a fitting platform in front of a mirror. It's by appointment only so I usually give them a call to schedule an appointment to come in. Once I get there, I put on my dress and the shoes I'll be wearing with it, and come out to where the fitting platform is. If you need assistance zipping/buttoning anything, the ladies are always very helpful once you get out of the dressing room. They take a look at what needs to get done, ask you how you feel about where things are pinned up, and what they're planning to do. Once you give them the ok, they ask when your event is and when you'd like to come back to do a last fitting. I'm usually never in a huge rush to get alterations done, but they seem very flexible. Every time I've picked up my dresses, it's always altered exactly the way we discussed and very reasonably priced. If you need anything altered, I recommend scheduling an appointment here. GO HERE GO HERE GO HERE!! I stated working with them the summer of 2015. When I had initially went dress shopping I was determined to have a simple lace dress with straps. I ended up getting sample size 12 strapless dress which I knew would need some serious altering. But for the sake of my budget, I gave up my idea of having straps, I just wanted the dress to fit. They are awesome. Margo has the BEST eye for detail and is such an expert. She not only gave me options for how to most affordably make the dress fit, but also gave me reasonable options to add straps! She gave me a quote and it ended up being right on... no surprise fees or anything (oh and there is a small discount if you pay in cash). I ended up adding straps and lowering the back for a more elegant look. I came in about 3-4 times total from start to finish (make sure to start 2-3 month before your wedding date, especially in the summer.... they area slammed!) . And it was PERFECT!!! The dress fit beautifully and I had no issue keeping it up. But like all epic weddings, I totally trashed my dress... worth it! But it killed me to only wear this amazing dress only once! So this year I decided to surprise my husband, cut it up, and wear it again. I gathered my all courage (and a pair of scissors) and "altered" the dress myself. I got lucky and it turned out great, but I ended up taking it back to Eltsa for them to hem up the ends to make sure it wouldn't continue to fray. Again, they did an amazing job, even touched up areas I told them wasn't necessary. They are just that detail oriented and professional. After a horrible experience at Nordstrom culminating with them giving my gown poofy sleeves without asking me, I got out of there and, trying not to panic, brought it to Eltsa's. She asked my wedding date (less than 3 weeks out), nodded gravely, and with a quick inspection caught a few other issues with the previous alterations. It took me 5 visits before I got my perfectly fitted dress back, but the many visits were really because both Margo and Ivanna really cared about all the details and wanted to ensure the dress was as perfect and flawless as much as possible. Honestly, when I tried it on my third visit, the dress looked perfect to me already, but both Margo and Ivanna managed to find and point out something that would make the dress look better on the day that any female deserves to look her best. Best of all, they did it without charging anything additionally over the costs they already quoted me on my first visit. What I love most about this place is how honest Margo and Ivanna were with their opinions. They pointed out different options and suggested what the most cost effective options were if it was them deciding as well. At the end, I can choose to do whatever alterations I want with my dress and they would still do that for me. However, I appreciate their opinions telling me whether that idea makes sense, whether they would look good, or whether it would be cost effective in their opinions. On the day I picked up my dress, Margo spent some time telling me how to care for my dress and few tips on how to keep my dress look good without having to spend additional $100 on dry-cleaning when my dress didn't need any additional cleaning or any more significant care. I decided to post a review after a few excellent experiences with Eltsa Custom Sewing. As other reviewers have said, it probably isn't the the least expensive option, but I strongly feel that it's worth it. They've always listened to my requests and given quality results. Back in 2016 I had my wedding dress altered here and I was very pleased with the work that was done, especially since there was complicated lace to deal with. I've since had them do minor alterations, and also trickier things like making sure a bridesmaid's dress (bought pre-pregnancy!) would fit over a baby bump. Most recently, though, I brought in a leather jacket that had ripped around the pocket. I wasn't sure how it could be repaired, since the tear was in the actual leather, but the jacket was a favorite of mine that also had sentimental value. I asked if there was anything that could be done so that I could at least wear it again, even if it wouldn't look the same. The owner took a look at it and said that she could maybe find some leather to make a patch. I told her that sounded good, and I left my beloved jacket in her hands. When I picked it up a few weeks later (I told her there was no rush), I was blown away by the results. They had added some diagonally stitching and it somehow looked even cooler than it had originally! All that's to say that I would trust the capable hands at Eltsa with any alterations, big or small.
