Edit: I was never offered a 'partial refund'. I was only offered excuses, that she 'did me a favor' and 'didnt even charge me for cutting it off'. The shirt is factually not in its original condition. One side is shorter than the other. The original condition would require not cutting off the thread in the first place. The fact that you think cutting off a part of the shirt, and then re-attaching it, makes it "original condition" speaks volumes. Terrible, ruined my $200 shirt by cutting off a chainstitch run-off when I asked for sleeves to be shortened. When I brought this up, she became defensive and told me she was doing me a favor by cleaning up loose threads. Completely incompetent. First, she has no idea what a chainstitch run-off is, which speaks to her lack of experience. Second, she has no concept of duty of care. Third, she has no sense of responsibility to own up to her mistake, and instead insists that she 'did me a favor.' I understand making mistakes, but she I think truly doesn't she is at fault, as she said she will keep cutting threads off for her customers. The incompetence and lack of self awareness is almost laughable. read more

I usually always support my local small businesses, but feel compelled to warn people about this alterations shop. Twice now, I've been quoted outrageous prices! Once, for taking up the sleeves of a jacket. And once, for sewing a small band of leather on a purse. In this most recent interaction, American Freestyle gave me a price of $250-- that's enough to buy a REALLY nice new leather purse! I went instead to Swansons Shoe Repair in Wallingford, and their price for the exact same alteration is $30! I will never go to American Freestyle again. What a shame to take advantage of customers in Magnolia like that. read more

Originally I came here to get my rehearsal dinner dress tailored. The gentleman working here completely understood what changes my dress needed to get the desired fit. The dress was done in a timely manner and fit absolutely perfectly. Fast forward to my wedding week, my reception gown never arrived at the bridal shop I ordered it from. I was in a total pinch and picked up two back up wedding reception dresses (both needed alterations). American Freestyle Alterations does great business and is busy because they do great work. Nonetheless, I came in on Tuesday and my wedding was on Saturday. They gentleman and lady working here accepted my rush order despite short notice and without cutting any corners on the work they did. These two worked around the clock to ensure my dresses were done in time to try on Thursday at 6pm in case any changes were needed (none were needed because as mentioned they know what they're doing). Final pick up with hems completely was Friday the day before my wedding. Both dresses look absolutely perfect and I could not be more grateful for the two working here. I will be a loyal customer for years to come! read more

I've gone in here a couple times to see if they could do some minor repairs on some of my clothes and their prices are outrageous For example the last time i went in they wanted $25 to sew up like a clean 1 inch cut in some pants When i said no thanks the lady got irritated and started arguing with me I literally had to forcefully pull the pants away from her because she didn't want to release her grip on them until i raised my voice to let them go Pretty weird to say the least read more

I absolutely loved the work that Nadia (I hope I spelled her name right) did on my dresses! Can I just compliment how clean the place is as soon as I stepped in? I had 7 dresses altered and the turnaround time was a week. I'm very impressed with how everything fitted perfectly, all because she took her time with measuring and was patient enough when I asked for her opinions on how short my dresses should go or what needed to be done. I am so thankful. I wanted a dress taken in / altered before I took a trip of a lifetime to Bora Bora. I took it to a place where I had taken clothing before. Explained I wanted it taken in, they pinned. I went to go pick it up in day promised. Not ready. Went back on second day promised. They did nothing but take the back elastic and sew it to the side to decrease the width around. No altering of seams, extra fabric, etc. I could have done that. Plus it looked atrocious. Called American Freestyle Alterations in a panic and close to closing time. They stayed a little after closing time (5 minutes or so) pinned the dress and promised it within the week. Picked it up tonight. It looks AMAZING. They not only fixed the horrendous looking extra elastic sewn to the side, but took it in properly. Thank you soooo much!! read more

I am so disappointed with American Freestyle. My friends love Vladimir and have used this place for years, however I had such a bad experience here last week and I don't know where to turn. I took my new Carhart coveralls in to have the hem let out an inch and a half. I am very tall and at 5'10, I always need more length in traditional pants. When I dropped the garment off, I left it with the woman who was working that day. We measured the seam out, and I repeated to just let it out one fold. After picking up the coveralls, I tried them on and realized she cut the leg and brought the hem up an inch and a half instead of letting it out. Now the hem is entirely too short, the pants are cut, and there is no way to repair the garment. When I called to see what happened, she became very defensive on the phone and repeated over and over that she had done her job. I asked to speak with the owner and she refused. She told me the only way to contact him was through Facebook messenger, which seemed very out of the ordinary. So now I am out $120 for coveralls and an additional $30 for the alteration. I am hoping to find some sort of amicable resolution so that we can move forward. I would be happy to change my review if they can help. read more

I got married over the summer and entrusted my beautiful and very unique wedding dress to the gals at American Freestyle Alterations and I couldn't have been happier with the result! :) I wanted an extremely unique dress, and ended up finding the exact one that I wanted online. I was so nervous about ordering online, and when it arrived, I needed to have lots of alterations done to it. It was a very large ball-gown taffeta sweetheart burgundy wedding dress with a 4-foot train. Before coming to American Freestyle Alterations, I was turned down by 3 other alteration companies saying the dress was too big and too complicated to work on. I felt completely hopeless. I was referred to American Freestyle Alterations by another company, and drove from Edmonds all the way to Magnolia to see them after work. Elena took one look at the dress and said "no problem!" It was literally that easy! I almost wanted to cry! Elena and her sister Natasha took such good care of me, it was so wonderful! They stayed open a little extra in the evenings a lot of times, so I could come for fittings and to answer any questions they had. They literally took my online-ordered dress from China and turned it into a brilliant masterpiece! Elena is an over-the-top talented seamstress that is so kind and wonderful, I really connected with her. She took such loving care of my dress and made sure all my deadlines were met and the dress exceeded my expectations. My wedding was fabulous! And all of my guests loved my dress so much! Beware: I brought in a new dress that I planned to wear to a wedding that needed a simple hem job (shortening ~1.5 inches). I paid the $93 up front, though I thought it was a high price for a simple hem (no beading, lace, or pattern on the portion that needed to be hemmed). I hoped the quality would be worth it. When I went to pick up the dress, I noticed a stain on the front of the dress; I was told to come back in a day. When I returned the next day, the stain was not totally removed, and I spotted another stain on the back of the dress. When I returned a third time, the stain on the back of the dress was still not fully removed, and I noticed the hem on the seam on the back of the dress had an imperfection in it. I was told it was "the best that could be done", that "no one will notice", and "everyone makes mistakes". When I asked about having a portion of my fee refunded to compensate for the "mistake" I was told it "wasn't doable". To admittedly deliver poor quality work and offer no recompense to the customer is simply not good business or service. I'll take my alterations business elsewhere from now on and encourage others to do the same. read more

Well after taking my top coat to I believe 5 different tailors this was the only one willing to do a sleeve take up at the shoulder (curse you surgeon cuffs). It's a tricky and tougher procedure that can easily be done wrong, but the tailor here did a wonderful job. Of course expect to pay a premium for a more intricate alteration, but be confident that it will be done right here. read more

I came here to get my wedding dress altered because of the stellar reviews on Yelp. My first experience at the shop was kind of weird because I had made an appointment in advance, and when I showed up the staff didn't seem to have any record of it, or at least acted put out that I was coming during such a busy time. A couple other customers (presumably walk-ins) were there at the same time and demanded a lot of time and attention from the one staff member, limiting her ability to attend to me. One of the other customers was angry and complaining that they hadn't correctly altered his pants from the previous time, and he took over the one dressing room they have to try them on, even though all my stuff was in there! I thought it was really rude on his part, but I wished she had done something to control the flow of customers, considering I had an appointment in advance. Ultimately, she did a good job on my dress, which just required hemming, and the price was reasonable. However, she forgot to resew some beading that I had pointed out the first time around, so she had to do it on the spot when I picked up the dress. The final product was satisfactory, but my overall experience here was kind of bizarre and definitely could have been better. read more

They lied to me about the pricing and made me feel guilty they set an appointment close to when I needed my alterations done by. I called to make an appointment because I needed two dresses hemmed by two weeks from when I called. They asked me to bring the dress in a week later, 5 days before I needed it finished. I asked them several times on the phone if it would be enough time and they assured me it would. When I went in for the fitting to get it hemmed the staff was very put off about the "short time" I needed it completed by. I had to reassure them several times that I had tried to come in a week earlier but they had set the appointment for me. She charged me $34 to hem one dress, then $52 to hem a second dress and told me the price difference was because there are beads on the second dress. This all seemed very reasonable to me. When I picked my dress up she added an extra $50 to the price she had quoted me and said it was because of the beads and "because it was a rush order". It was only a rush order because they made it one. I will never go back. read more

I can't say enough good things about American Freestyle Alterations. My fiancé and I tried them for my wedding dress alterations and to tailor one of his suits. My dress had 7 layers of tulle and netting with crystals and beading. I got it back after 2 weeks for the hem and it was perfect, as if it had been ordered just my length. She also took in the bodice and I wouldn't have known any different. It also cost less than what some of my bridesmaids paid at another tailor.
