Beverly did my wedding dress alterations on short-ish notice when my bridal shop's in-house alterations department closed without much warning. I had already had my first fitting with them and the dress had been pinned, but needed to be hemmed, the bust altered slightly and a bustle added. I called Beverly in January to see if she could do it before my May wedding. She graciously booked several appointments for me and got the work done 1 month prior to my wedding, working with me along the way to get it just right. I had my wedding last March, right before Covid hit, and had the incredible pleasure of working with Beverly to alter my gown. I lost quite a bit of weight between when I ordered my gown and when I was actually ready for alterations, and my dress had a lot of beading and appliqué, but it was no problem for Beverly. The first time I came in she provided her recommendations on where to take things in, how high to adjust the hem, what type of bustle would work best for the train, and explained the process she would take. We had two more fittings from there to make sure everything was perfect, and I could not have been happier. She took my dress down four sizes, but despite that kept all of the intricate detail in the dress intact. Im so Happy with the results of my dress! I brought my mother's wedding dress from the 70s to Beverly to have a few alterations done to make it a little bit more appropriate for me. It had long bell sleeves and a high neck so I had those removed and added a little lace to my train. She made the dress absolutely perfect just in time for my big day. What I found in Beverly Hinnicutt's Studio was more than a seamstress. I found a new, wise, and beautiful friend who is as easy to communicate with as she is responsive, caring, skilled. I came to Beverly with a custom, made-to-order Carol Hannah gown that was very large in the bodice and in need of some refinement. Over the course of a couple of fittings, Beverly helped to craft a masterpiece of a gown with zero trace of ever deconstructing it. She added bra cups, sewed in a rockin slit, hemmed the skirt, as well as created a gorgeous french bustle. I had a VERY hard time finding a dress I liked and even felt somewhat apprehensive about the one I ended up buying...but Beverly managed to truly make it my own and I can honestly say it evolved into the dress of my bodacious bride dreams. My mom and I got lured into this humble shop after walking out of Rhinestone Rosie. On a table set up in front of the door were some gorgeous cashmere arm-warmers. As we admired them, Beverly came out to introduce herself and tell us how she recycled cashmere sweaters to make something new from them. We were floored not just by the celeverness and ingenuity, but also because these were garments that looked professionally made... well, Beverly may be her own seamstress, but she is nothing short of professional. As we explored her shop, she made friendly conversation with us while working on her sewing machine. The shop is small and not exactly crowded with merchandise, but what is there is of the very highest quality. Besides the arm-warmers and scarves, there were also handmade pillow cases, bookmarks, pillows, caps and hats, skirts, sweaters, and a marvelous collection of Japanese inspired garments made from recycled (and authentic!) kimonos. There are some breathtaking scarves made from real silk obis (kimono sashes) for sale as well. Having had a horrible experience with a tailor before my wedding, I now know where I will be bringing my future tailoring needs. I didn't even make the connection that she did alterations until she mentioned it casually as we were on our way out the door, armed with a decorative floral bag with our purchases lovingly wrapped inside. I may live in West Seattle, but I will happily drive to Queen Anne to see Beverly the next time I need a seamstress- or to simply stop in and see what new treasures she has to offer. read more

Saved a dress. My daughter was in London for work a few weeks before her wedding and, in the crazy-happy pre-wedding mind, fell in love with a dress way out of her budget and bought it. It needed hemming and while she had some buyer remorse (because of the cost) there was no return. It is a very lightweight fabric with a flowing hem and needed minor shortening. She took it to a tailor who cut and hemmed too much and unevenly with almost 2" different from one side to the other. The blue fabric had been cut, the edge serged, folded and straight stitched with black thread resulting in an awkward flipping and ruffling of the hem; it did not hang right. Ruined. I took it to Beverly who straightened the drop length and finished the bottom with a rolled hem. Looks like new. Beverly is an expert dressmaker. read more

Beverly is a genius. Full stop. She took a shift wedding dress I had that was made for a 6' stick-thin model, and fit it perfectly to my 5'3" curvy frame. The back was also way too bulgy, and we couldn't take it any more on the back, bc then the hips would be too tight. But Beverly creatively found a solution to fix it! She is just wonderful. Beverly was an absolute life saver. I had an abysmal first bridal fitting with another tailor in town, and I wasn't sure the depth of what had been done but I left feeling horrible about what would happen to my dress next. I took my dress from my previous tailor and brought it to Beverly; she took the dress apart to show me the work that had been done and explained how she could fix it. My dress had a lot of appliqué and the previous tailor literally just cut through the appliqué border of the hem (unevenly), raised the hem and sewed it back down, creating an odd overlap of appliqué in no sensical pattern along the hem of the gown. This was just for starters. Beverly assured me she could fix the work that had been done on time for my wedding. She did. I'll never forget bursting into tears in my fitting with her because she was clearly competent and caring and I was relieved to have my dress in her hands. She would text me updates as she worked and sent me pictures of her progress to calm my nerves (because truthfully I was a basket case). I was free to focus on last minute wedding details and not have to sweat bullets about what I would find in the next fitting. In the end my dress was stunning and tailored so that it looked like it was made for me. I had so fallen in love with this dress when I initially found it and I was able to wear it on my wedding day purely because of Beverly. I will never be able to thank her enough. I brought a pair of brand new, expensive jeans to Beverley for what seemed like a routine alteration. When my jeans came back, they were not altered to my specifications and had been ruined. Beverley and her assistant were unapologetic and actually rude when I tried to communicate how disappointing this was for me. When I went to pick up the jeans a few months later given my work schedule and her limited business hours, I learned that she had given my jeans away without calling to let me know. I'm now in the price of the jeans plus $20 for alterations and I literally have nothing to show for it. After the hemming mishap I would have gone back but the blatant disrespect and lack of empathy that I was shown is enough to make me take my business elsewhere. So much for supporting small businesses, next time I'll go to Nordstrom as her assistant recommended. read more

I made the mistake of taking a very expensive piece to be altered and instead of being informed that Beverly's skills did not include such technique I was sorely disappointed when I picked up the garment and it looked like something a novice to sewing would have come up with as a temporary solution.
