The shirt is factually not in its original condition. One side is shorter than the other. The original condition would require not cutting off the thread in the first place. The fact that you think cutting off a part of the shirt, and then re-attaching it, makes it "original condition" speaks volumes. Terrible, ruined my $200 shirt by cutting off a chainstitch run-off when I asked for sleeves to be shortened. When I brought this up, she became defensive and told me she was doing me a favor by cleaning up loose threads. Completely incompetent. First, she has no idea what a chainstitch run-off is, which speaks to her lack of experience. Second, she has no concept of duty of care. Third, she has no sense of responsibility to own up to her mistake, and instead insists that she 'did me a favor.' I understand making mistakes, but she I think truly doesn't she is at fault, as she said she will keep cutting threads off for her customers. The incompetence and lack of self awareness is almost laughable.

From fitting one to the final fitting, this dress was transformed. And it wasn't particularly easy -- my dress had tricky lace at the bottom that had to be hemmed without creating an ugly line. They did a gorgeous job of working around the design in a way that I actually think enhanced it overall. They showed me how to bustle the dress and let me take videos. They took a hundred photos for me. And again, the fit was perfection. In short -- get your alterations done here! You won't regret it.

This was my first time getting any type of alteration. I actually had my first fitting with them…read morewhen they were in West Seattle. They're now in Tacoma. It's in a residential area but the workspace is still separate from their living space. This isn't like a traditional bridal studio so I wouldn't bring all of your bridal party/family to your fittings, maybe just 1 - 3 other people. I got my dress used off of Still White. I'm only 5'0". The dress and the slip it came with were over a foot too long and impossible to walk in. I reached out to Lek and Beam to fix the hemline and add a bustle. I didn't know what a bustle was before researching wedding dress styles but it's a way to hang up the train of your wedding dress (usually after the ceremony) so that it's easier to walk/dance and doesn't get as dirty. Lek and Beam were easy to communicate with via email and text. They were also very thorough in-person to make sure that expectations were aligned before doing alterations. I felt that the pricing was very reasonable considering that my dress consisted of three layers that needed to be hemmed, they hemmed it so that it matched the outline of the embroidery (not just a straight hem), and they do a special way of bustling that hides the loops until they're ready to be used. They also fixed my slip straps and added a missing button for free. I received a number of compliments at my wedding specifically on how well my dress fit me! First fitting tips for alteration newbies like me: - bring the exact shoes, underwear (and/or pasties), shape wear, veil, jewelry, and accessories (ex: coverups) you are planning to wear on your big day. These can all impact the fit and styling of your dress. For example, if you're wearing a necklace, you can see where it falls in relation to the dress' neckline. - When buying a dress, it's better to size up to fit your largest measurement (whether it's bust, waist, or hips). It's much easier (and generally less expensive) to bring in a dress compared to letting it out. - consider leaving some space at the waist rather than it being skin tight. Remember that your waistline may change when sitting vs standing, after eating/staying hydrated, etc. - if you're getting a bustle, try to bring a couple of key people to your final fitting so that they can practice bustling and unbustling your dress. It can be tricky! All of my bridal party and family are in Hawai'i so I made sure to take a video of Beam showing how to bustle, and Beam also had me try to do it myself too.

Though I've only had one experience at Queen Anne Tailors, I'd say it is a reliable place to get…read moreyour tailoring done. I needed a gown hemmed with less than 1 month notice, and they took it without grumbling. They had it ready the morning of the day I requested it be finished. The price was about $130, which seemed a bit pricy but I went through with it anyway. I asked for the front of the gown to just touch the floor and have a slight train in the back - I think they did a good job overall. The bottom of the gown (the area they hemmed) looks good as new (no strings hanging off). When I tried it on afterwards I think it's ever so slightly shorter than what I wanted, but barely. I would return here if I needed another tailoring job. The staff seemed to be good, honest people who care about their work. Though, if you're looking for somewhere very cheap, I suggest going elsewhere.

I brought in a pair of pants because the seam around the bottom couple of inches of the zipper had…read morestarted unraveling and puckering. I explained the problem when I dropped them off and expected the zipper area to be repaired. When I picked them up, I discovered that the "repair" was simply sewing the bottom approximately two inches of the zipper shut. The zipper now physically cannot open all the way, which makes the pants considerably harder to get into. This was not explained to me beforehand or presented as a limitation of the repair. When I pointed out the problem, rather than discussing whether there was another solution, he repeatedly told me, "That's all I can do" and "What do you want?" The interaction was gruff and dismissive, and there was no attempt to address the fact that the repair had compromised the actual function of the zipper. I paid to have my pants repaired, not to have part of the zipper permanently sewn closed. I would not return.

She seemed a little overwhelmed that I had a huge bag of items. 3 of the items she looked over and told me she couldn't get it done without a helper, and that was totally fine by me. The measurements for the other 5 items took about 30 minutes. She quoted $15 for 3 buttons, $50 and $70 for the other two pants that needed to be hemmed (a pair of viscose/polyester trousers and a faux leather pant). I felt that the two pants hemmed were out of my budget, and asked her if she could just do the 3 buttons and not the pants. I also offered to compensate her for her time, as I was there for a while for the measurements. She then told me she was too busy to do the buttons, or any of my clothes, and sent me out of the store refusing service. She was still relatively polite throughout this whole exchange. I think it is within her right to refuse service because it is out of her scope or she is too busy. But I think she ended up turning me away because she was offended? I'm not sure if there is an etiquette for me to reduce the scope of the work?

Sometimes though if you're like me, far from that, you just need a tailor to repair some clothes. In my case I had a couple pairs of pants with popped buttons. I dropped them off and the lady, perhaps Elsta, was kind. She took my info and told me I should hear back in 5 days and took down my info. She did warn me that if I did not hear back, to call. I understand it gets busy here, the rack when you walk in is loaded with clothes and another with dresses. I came back in a week later as I got busy and was close by coming off work and it was not ready. The lady was very apologetic and told me it would be ready the following day. Sure, enough I got a text the following afternoon to come pick up. The pants were nicely and tightly rebuttoned. Only cost $11 which is less than I expected. So, if I inevitably have to bring more buttons to be sewn or zippers to be repairs, I'll come back.

I am very happy with the results and excited to wear this dress for my friend's wedding! I thought the pricing was fair for the work completed, and discounts were provided depending on payment type. They notified me at drop off that the dress would be done in 2-3 weeks, and it was ready for pick up the VERY next day! I will be bringing more clothes here in the future.
