I love this little gem in Fremont! I have returned again and again over the years to peruse (and purchase!) the beautiful women's clothing carried there. They have many clothing lines you won't find anywhere else in Seattle. I particularly like the knits they carry--nothing like a beautiful new sweater to get you through the Seattle winter in style! The women who work there are incredibly warm, helpful and knowledgeable. Prices are on the higher side, but I prefer to buy quality over quantity and still regularly wear a beautiful sweater I bought there 15 years ago! They gift wrap, too! read more

No idea how this place manages to stay open with 1. Such high prices and more importantly 2. Terrible, rude owners/ employees. We came in 10 minutes before 5pm on a Sunday -- for the first time -- and yes, I hate coming in right before a store closes but a couple of people in front of me had looked so excited to go in and I was intrigued. Once we went in, it was obvious that they wanted us to get out. Intense stares, following us around the store, and eventually, as we were smelling some candles, the older woman asked us if she could help us with anything. We said we were just browsing...(as I said it was our first time and isn't that what people normally do in stores -- browse?) and she replied very condescendingly and bluntly, "well, we're closing the store now." And scoffed right after. OK. She didn't want us in there any longer (we were in there for a total of 7 minutes) because we weren't buying anything. How were we supposed to know what we wanted to buy in 7 minutes instead of being so pushy and rude about getting customers out, they simply could have denied entry 10 minutes prior to closing with a polite notice and maybe my mood wouldn't of been soured. Or even, she could have politely said, "we appreciate you coming in, but we are closing soon. We would love to see you again another day!" It's unfortunate when you have high hopes going into a cutely decorated store, only to find out that the service isn't worth spending a single cent for. Pity. read more

This little shop is certainly a force to be reckoned with for those with superb taste in clothing. Every time I wander into this hidden gem I add up in my head the total amount of all the pretty pieces and it never seems to go below the $700 mark. I think Washingtonians are naturally used to getting things on the frugal side, but here every piece is a worthy investment if you've got the dough to blow. - and I'm not just saying that as an excuse for myself, as I lust after the uber beautiful dresses and coats! Its a very earthy storefront. You can tell these women really put in the efforts in picking items, display, and keeping it unique. It's true. I'm a shopaholic. But I can't be at Les Amis. Not if I don't want to live in a carboard box near the troll, I can't! This cute little Fremont shop really tests my willpower with lovely asymtrical garments and shoes, accessories and jewelry all at lofty, lofty pricetags. I don't hold it against them one bit b/c damnit, I have seen some incredibly beautiful things in here in my day. And to make matters worse, their customer service is actually quite decent; helpful and informative. Ladies: if you've got loads of cash to blow on a piece or two (and I do mean hundreds) this is the place to do it. Les Amis reminds me of that Mad Men line in season one when the dept store heiress says "That's right. We charge high prices making people want the items more than they would if they were affordable." This is loose, flowing, poorly fitting clothing that is not going to last. It's not fashion, they just price it that way. Think thin, long sleeve t-shirts, that won't hold up over time, with no style to speak of, ON SALE for $178. huh? Do you think we're stoopid? Les Amis - I'm so glad I found you. You were everything that I was looking for and more. I was in town for my best friends birthday and wanted to give her a unique gift and ended up hosting a little shopping spree here. Probably spent almost an hour and a half going through all of their awesome clothes and ended up buying a few great pieces for myself too. Wonderfully curated store. Clothing is modern and fresh. The sales assocuate deeply cared about what I was looking to get my best friend for her birthday and i can't thank her enough. We had a blast. I can't wait to visit again! read more

I have to agree with the reviewers who have been put off by the staff here. I have never had such a "Pretty Woman" (pre-makeover) experience as I did today at Les Amis. I was looking for a dress to wear to a wedding, so was prepared to spend more than my Skechers shoes and non-designer purse may have indicated. However, appearances should not dictate how attentive sales staff are to potential customers. Normally, I appreciate the hands-off approach. But when the three other women who walked in immediately got effusive, "How are you doing today"s and "I love your shoes!" and I got no greeting, no offer of help (even after I held several dresses up to myself and looked at them quizzically, then looked around as if wondering if they came in another size), and finally, no acknowledgment as I left the store, I have to assume there is an element of snobbery at work here. I also overheard one employee gleefully bragging to another how she gave the hard sell to "that skinny blonde girl who comes in a lot" and convinced her to buy a ring by telling her "she would never find another one like it, even at a trunk show." This only reinforces my belief that rustic wood shelving, low lighting, and lofty prices do not equal honest, sincere advice. In the end, it's all about the sale...which you'd think would spur the ladies of Les Amis to be kind to anyone who walks in the door. Not much for me to buy for myself here because I am a male...but I have bought gifts for my girlfriend here and thusly it deserves a review. Rude. That's all I will say. Okay, I'll tell you more...when I go shopping for gifts, I expect a certain level of niceness, even if it is completely fake; this factor ususally makes it much easier for me to spend my money. At Les Amis, I was looked down upon and nobody helped me out until I asked and they didn't even chuckle at my dumb jokes...Maybe I am expecting too much, but I am not the only one who thinks they are stuck-up...ask around, you'll see. I guess it's time for my rebuttal to those Les Amis nay-sayers out there. Les Amis definitely has more than "thin, long sleeve t-shirts." They carry Inhabit sweaters, Nili Lotan, Hanii Y, Steven Alan, Isabel Marant, (as others have said Gary Graham, Paul & Joe). . . unfortunately, they also carry Nanette Lepore, which I think is a waste of space, but to each her own. Yes, they have some Velvet and Michael Stars thin, long sleeve t-shirts, but if I were to get something like that, Velvet and Michael Stars are the way to go. I often go to Les Amis for my most wearable, everyday, "look cute without looking like you are trying" pieces. And "snitty service"? Compared to what?! I live in Santa Monica, and I can show you the real meaning of uppity at plenty of boutiques on the West side of LA. I don't shop as much in LA anymore now that I have found Les Amis. The way I see it, the sales people at Les Amis leave me alone when I don't want an outside opinion (and maybe someone else could interpret this as snitty?), but most importantly, they give me an HONEST opinion when I ask for one. How many times has Ciara (a friendly 20-something with great style) told me that something just doesn't look right for me, and pulled something else off the rack that fits my taste and frame better? All of the sales people at Les Amis have been reliably great, every time I have been in the store (a couple of times a season, for the last 2 years). Yes, the price tag is not cheap. But if you can afford it, Les Amis rocks. read more

The whimsical/tiny facade on this lovely boutique does not prepare one for the vast amount of clothing contained therein. This is one of my favorite stores in Seattle. They group their clothing by color on the far left wall and then by designer, which is key when searching for a certain color to complete an outfit (query whether this observation is fine/pathetic). The large rack in the middle is also intermixed by designer, but then they have a few racks around the store that highlight a certain designer, e.g. Gary Graham, Paul & Joe, etc. It is a pleasure to look through their clothing. Les Amis is one of the only shops in town to carry Paul & Joe. They also carry Rozae Nichols, Gary Graham, and many others. They have beautiful clothing; the majority of it is expensive--but on par with the other boutiques in town and consistent with what another reviewer said, often less expensive than the same items at barneys/nordstrom. Their sales are epic. They will put an entire wall on sale. This is also possibly the best store in town to get a killer winter coat on sale for less than $300. As a last point, the staff is very helpful/forthcoming in telling you whether something fits. read more

The clothes keep me coming back to this great little shop, but the service has been a little patchy, hence the 3 stars. When shopping here, I generally find wonderful things--that has always been consistent. I agree with other posts that prices are a bit high, but so be it, I budget for these purchases. There are some really lovely gals working there, with whom I've had a great experience. But there are a few others who simply ignore my requests for additional sizes. What a beautiful, beautiful store. Les Amis is a place to hunt for a really special item, but be prepared to pay for it. I went there recently for their summer sale (30% off, I believe, almost everything in the store) and walked away with a gorgeous cotton woven top. The sales staff is incredibly helpful and doesn't bullshit you if something doesn't fit right. One thing to keep in mind: during the Fremont Sunday market, this place can get mighty busy. Gorgeous, spendy, classy clothing. The salespeople are friendly, helpful, but not pushy-weird (like- "Oooh- that looks FAbulous on you!", when you know it looks like ass). None of that nonsense. If you need a special outfit for a special event, or if you just MIGHT need a special outfit for an as-yet-unnamed event, stop by Les Amis. Also, I think Shannon M. and I have the same Nanette Lepore skirt. It's the most flattering skirt I own too. This is the kind of store that makes me wish I had loads of money to spend on clothes. Or just loads of money period. I browsed for awhile without realizing how much anything was. Then I came across a jacket that I had to have, and found that unfortunately it was a couple hundred dollars out of my price range. Oh and a fab skinny belt that was $88. No thanks I'll just go buy some silver ribbon. Then came the hunt to find something I could actually afford. I stumbled upon a lovely little menswear-inspired dress - very Taylor Momsen. It was reasonable, I don't remember exactly but around $100 on sale. After waiting around 15 minutes for one of three dressing rooms [it was packed this particular day], I got to try it on. The zipper didn't go all the way up once I had it on, and it very much seemed like a faulty zipper, so I had them bring back another. Dress #2 didn't zip either, which had nothing to do with me being large at all, more the dress being much too small. Once I finally DID get it zipped up, I could barely breathe, it was literally suffocating my barely-there chest. However, I got many compliments from everybody who worked there. Even without the dress on, people saying to my mom, "Oh she is just so cute!" [err.. thanks?], and upon hearing about the chest-suffocation the salesgirl announced that if it's not going to be comfortable enough to wear, don't buy it! Thank goodness for people who think comfort takes precedence over getting a sale. So I left without a purchase, but with fond memories. The absolute worst service I've ever seen anywhere, EVER!! I went in with a few lady friends of mine all of which quite possibly could have made a purchase. The women that ran the shop treated all of us with total contempt from the second we walked in, out of the blue. I love this shop. It's a fantastic antidote to Seattle's lackluster retail scene. Other than Nordstrom and Totokaelo, it's the only non-vintage shop I frequent. --Sales staff is friendly. They remember repeat customers and know just what to recommend. --They're helpful with sizing--not just finding your size, but helping you choose the correct one when you're between sizes. --The selection is fantastic. They're the only place in town for the more adventurous styles from labels I love, like Rachel Comey. --It's an easy place to browse and get inspired by. i dont know why, but les amis always smells a little off when i go in. i dont know what it is, but, it's almost like sour clothes. but the clothes in there are far from sour. they are sweet and pretty and like a seattle boutique version of anthropologie. and anyone that knows me knows that i used to do a sound of music intro-like maria spin when i walked into anthro. i mean it. the hills are a live...with the sound of sarah shopping at anthropologie. you get what i'm saying?? okay, so anyhow, les amis is like anthro's much sleeker and more less known but really great designer labels kinda store. so many it is even free people's slightly older and less "hippie" store. they have these cool little gold chains right now-one of a whale and another of a ship totally caught my eye. they would both work well given that the high waisted "sailor" pant seems to be gaining momentum (damn it! first skinny pants and now this?!)... if you look carefully through the sale racks, you can find some amazing things for very very cheap. it's pretty, it's fun and their staff have definitely gotten friendlier and much more service oriented. the price will seem too much-but maybe if you have the means and it's the look for you, i can see how les amis could be one of your favs.... read more

For SFers, this boutique has a similar feel to Behind the Post Office. Old wooden floors, vintage shelving and mirrors and designer brands like Michael Stars, Citizens of Humanity, Om Girl, Red Engine Jeans and Orla Kiely. A small selection of lots of brands, plus candles, cards and jewelry. Although I didn't really find much to fit my style, the sale section was amazing, there were many pairs of jeans for $60-80. read more

Every time you walk into a boutique, you are basically walking inside the head of its owner and/or buyer. This stuff lining the shelves and displayed so carefully on the shabby chic tables and glass display cases? This is what he/she thinks you want, what you're looking for. It's also why sometimes you enter a store, note the wall of high-end comfort shoes and mumu dresses from Chico's, and want to run screaming in the other direction. You have nothing in common with this place, it's not here for you. So I guess the owner of Les Amis and I should become meilleures amies because she doesn't think she knows what I want, she just knows. Theory, Rebecca Taylor, Nanette Lepore. Oh yes. Cashmere sweater with empire waists in muted tones, grass green blouses with eyelet trim that tie at the sleeves, sparkly, sexy, shimmery tops that ensure you'll never have nothing to wear out, giant distressed leather Hobo bags you'd sell your first born to acquire. Yes, yes please. I love Fremont shopping, but this place puts those other boutiques to shame. I just hope they have sales, because I don't want to pawn my future children quite yet. read more

Wonderful selection of well-made clothing by small label designers. I particularly enjoy that they carry clothing that is comfortable and casual - without being the least bit sloppy. Two of my VERY favorite, go-to skirts are from Les Amis. They get new pieces in consistently, so it's always fun to stop in. Perfect alternative to buying mass produced, cookie-cutter tops and bottoms. The shop is put together nicely, tho the dressing rooms are a little tight. Service can be warm and friendly or a little cooler, depending on person on duty. It doesn't much matter to me... I'm not here to find a new best friend. I don't buy alot here because the selection is somewhat limited (small store), but I really enjoy visiting about once a month to see what's new in the store. I recently bought a Rachel Nasvik purse that is FABULOUS. Great jewelry, too. The real reason I give this store such a great rating is that the women that work there are so friendly and helpful - they know me and always have something in mind they think I would like.
