I Love Paying "Lip Service" Here SITREP Seriously. Lip Service is one of my favorite brands of clothing items and The New York Xchange carries that line here. THE SETUP This store location has gone through a couple of different managment / owner changes, but by and large, it remains one of the best Gothic-Industrial-Dark Wave meccas for seriously awesome alternative clothing. MASK I've been shopping items here off & on for the last 16 years, but there's always something to be found here to add to my wardrobe. This time around I captured a mask. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=Opk5G1T5xJV2i5WSxHSRwQ&userid=3mNz5nQFTIBQm0oU5mBR0w TRANSPARENT PURSES / HANDBAGS My friend Jenner was also keeping an eye out for transparent purses. Apparently more music venues and shows are only allowing transparent purses and handbags into the venue. It was nice to see that the Exchange had a few different varieties to choose from. THE LOWDOWN Staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and the diversity of items makes this an awesome stop during every fashion season.

Just a glimpse of the amazing breath of clothing styles and options hidden within

Perhaps it's not every day that you need something goth or for a rave, or any of the styles in between, but it's really good to know that it's out there, waiting for you, when you do. Some of the clothing and jewelry are designed for the long haul. A lot of it is perfect for trying out a look, a lifestyle, or a new you; these tend to be Just the price for spreading your wings. In a world of online shopping, there's something really amazing about navigating dense rounders of clothing to see and touch and try. This is the kind of business we should all patronize on those days where we want to try on being somebody else.

This was the dress they were selling for $44

They literally scam people to buy their heavily over priced clothes. The clothes there are also sold online for half the price AND ITS THE SAME BRAND. They sell the clothes they get online for 2x-3x the original price. THEY'RE SCAMMING YALL. I found the exact dress they sold there online for $24, the price they were selling it for there was $44. There was a underbust corset they had that was being sold for $85 and I found the EXACT same one online sold for $50. They just resell clothes they find online and over price it. Don't fall for it pls

Interesting store fashion wise. I enjoyed the alternative variety. With this kinda stuff, of course it's highly priced, but what they are selling looks good quality so I wouldn't dismiss this spot. I guess I personally just avoid it to avoid leaving spending so much money

This place is like my dream closet! I spent so much time it their the sun went down by the time I realized how much time had passed from just looking and making mental notes of just how much money I'm about to spend and will be spending there in the near future so many paychecks I'm about to blow in this store! It's a alternative girls heaven for shoes, purses, jewelry, dresses and accessories that are so unique and different to sum it up..seriously is a bad ass store.

Beautiful steampunk boots with a lot of attention to detail. Too pricey ($180) for me this time but wow!!

Great store for alternative clothing; love going there to browse on a semi regular basis, and I've purchased a few items over the years.

I had a truly terrible experience at this store that still bothers me to this day…read more I liked this store because it was basically on my doorstep, and it had a good selection of cards. After patronizing this place for a while, I was asked not to come back to this store. Naturally I was curious as to why they would do this to a repeat customer. I was told that I had made an employee uncomfortable- by flirting with them!! I was gobsmacked as to why anyone would think that. I'm a talker- I talk to everyone I meet the same way, but this person thought I was flirting with them. Perhaps they have too much main character energy to think that. Perhaps they found my chattiness annoying- not everyone is going to be delighted by me- but why, WHY would they not just tell me they were busy and couldn't talk? Did they feel they were being held hostage? I saw Standard Goods as a neighborhood spot. Keep in mind I wasn't camping out at the store; I'd say my average visit was -20 minutes, and I wasn't there frequently. This just doesn't make any sense to me. I'm forced to consider the possibility they felt ill at ease around me due to my disablity- I'm legally blind and my eyes look different, some people aren't comfortable with that that's their problem. Even if that's not the case, it still really hurt when they asked me not to come back. What is this, high school? Yes, I cried. They made me feel like my presence was a nuisanc. It left an impact. question whether people want me around. There were so many other ways they could have dealt with it and at the same time keep in mind that I was a customer with feelings. I get the distinct sense that they don't care about customers or the community. It's good for managers to take their employees' concerns seriously- Just not like this. Maybe they are extremely nonconfrontational, yet there must have been another way to addrss this without banning me from the store.

This gift shop brings me joy. It's tailored towards locals but they also carry general merch. It…read morereminds me of Fireworks and Kinokuniya but less cluttered. They have other locations in the area but this particular one on Capitol Hill is the most convenient for me. The staff is welcoming and friendly. They have apparel, pins, stickers, and other fun gifts. I caught the 49 bus from downtown but the 10 and 12 were an option too. I just took whichever bus came first. Sure, I could have walked up the hill but I didn't want to get all sweaty.
