I had a truly terrible experience at this store that still bothers me to this day. I liked this store because it was basically on my doorstep, and it had a good selection of cards. After patronizing this place for a while, I was asked not to come back to this store. Naturally I was curious as to why they would do this to a repeat customer. I was told that I had made an employee uncomfortable- by flirting with them!! I was gobsmacked as to why anyone would think that. I'm a talker- I talk to everyone I meet the same way, but this person thought I was flirting with them. Perhaps they have too much main character energy to think that. Perhaps they found my chattiness annoying- not everyone is going to be delighted by me- but why, WHY would they not just tell me they were busy and couldn't talk? Did they feel they were being held hostage? I saw Standard Goods as a neighborhood spot. Keep in mind I wasn't camping out at the store; I'd say my average visit was -20 minutes, and I wasn't there frequently. This just doesn't make any sense to me. I'm forced to consider the possibility they felt ill at ease around me due to my disablity- I'm legally blind and my eyes look different, some people aren't comfortable with that that's their problem. Even if that's not the case, it still really hurt when they asked me not to come back. What is this, high school? Yes, I cried. They made me feel like my presence was a nuisanc. It left an impact. question whether people want me around. There were so many other ways they could have dealt with it and at the same time keep in mind that I was a customer with feelings. I get the distinct sense that they don't care about customers or the community. It's good for managers to take their employees' concerns seriously- Just not like this. Maybe they are extremely nonconfrontational, yet there must have been another way to addrss this without banning me from the store. read more

This gift shop brings me joy. It's tailored towards locals but they also carry general merch. It reminds me of Fireworks and Kinokuniya but less cluttered. They have other locations in the area but this particular one on Capitol Hill is the most convenient for me. The staff is welcoming and friendly. They have apparel, pins, stickers, and other fun gifts. I caught the 49 bus from downtown but the 10 and 12 were an option too. I just took whichever bus came first. Sure, I could have walked up the hill but I didn't want to get all sweaty. read more

There are so many boutique shops in the Capital Hill neighborhood that if you don't make a point to check out every corner you are bound to miss one of these charming little shops. Standard Goods is just one of these shops for me. At this fun place they have a great selection of greeting cards that are very unique and definitely something you just don't see every day. There was men's and women's clothing that Steve and I both really liked and Steve fell in love with a long sleeved shirt so much he made the purchasing plunge! A place that I saw on a list of clothing shops from BAIT and it was only a few block away so I figured why not. I wasn't prepared for such a dope store. They had a good selection of outerwear, warm weather clothes, and PNW specific stuff. I wish I would've brought more money because I saw so much stuff I wanted to get. We ended up picking up some stickers for our luggage's designed by local artists (I think?). The cashier lady was super cool and funny. I had a wonderful experience here! The two girls working the desk were delightful and helpful, they greeted me with a warm smile and helped me pick out some things , I loved the poll they had up top. It's not often you see that in a shop, more of a coffee stand thing, so it definitely sets them apart and adds to the "cozy" vibe for sure. The chalk signs art also really drew me in, super cute! Not to mention the store was beautifully organized and tidy, all in all it was a wonderful experience. They have really nice clothing there on top of everything else, nice stickers and hats as well. I loved this little store when I made a stop during a recent jaunt to Seattle. I went in hoping to find postcards, stickers or pins that I could send to friends as souvenirs, and I found all of that plus plenty of cool apparel to boot. The curation in this shop is great. Almost didn't stop by, but so glad I did as this was my favorite store that I visited during my weekend trip to Seattle! I loved the styles they carry and probably would have bought way more if I had more time to browse! Throughout the weekend I was on the hunt for a throwback Sonics hat, but couldn't find one I liked. I came across a gorgeous Pacific North West snapback in blue with a gum patch here that more than made up for missing on the Sonics hat! Discovered a brand called Ten Tree that plants 10 trees for every garment sold! It felt good to not only buy an awesome shirt but to do something good as well. I also picked up a leather bracelet for my wife that captured the feel of the PNW. However, I grabbed a large without thinking and it ended up being too big for her. She loved the look and feel of it though, but that was my only disappointment from my stop at Standard Goods. The next time I'm in town I'm definitely coming back! read more

This is my new favorite store in Seattle! I stopped by Alive and Well which is next door to Standard Goods and the thing that caught my eye to this store were all the different patches at the front window. I had to go inside and check it out! Once inside the small shop, you see a different variety of everything. From Quay sunglasses (that were on sale), patches, pins, clothing, plants, bags, greeting cards, hats, shoes, etc. My first time in the store (yes, I came twice during my short trip) I was a bit rushed since I had to be somewhere after. I bought pins (heroes for hire; I know the owner!) and I came back my second time to buy the "Capitol Hill Seattle" crew neck. I can never make decisions easily so I had to put it on hold and think about it. I told the lady I'll probably come back for it since I didn't have time to try it on. She gave me a 20% off coupon since I already used the 20% check in coupon on Yelp for my pins. The lady said it was their first batch printing those sweaters so they didn't sell it online. I really liked how simple and clean it looked so I bought it since I love Capitol Hill! My friend checked in after she purchased her things and realized she missed the 20% off just for checking in on Yelp. The lady working was happy she mentioned it to me (so I wouldn't miss it) and they were nice enough to refund her money. My friend was the first person to ever use it so they were happy that it worked. I will always stop by Standard Goods when I'm visiting Seattle so I hope they're still there when I come back! :) read more

Very awkward shopping experience. I was the only one in the store and the employee didn't greet me or say hi once. In fact, it felt like he was going out of his way to avoid me. Then another employee entered and started chatting him up, still ignoring the fact that they had a customer in the store. I left without looking at everything because it was so uncomfortable. I don't expect them to cater to all of my needs, but I do expect to be at least greeted when I enter. read more

Best local shop on the Hill. There are two noteworthy shops on Capitol Hill and this is one of them (the other one being Glasswing Greenhouse). This little locals spot has the cutest decorations, funniest cards, well made clothing, candles that will change your life and staff who are friendly and helpful. They change out their inventory semi regularly and have a rewards program to keep you coming back. Highly recommend this little place to anyone visiting or living on the Hill - it's hard to leave without buying something! I've made it a regular thing to stop in the store and the employees have learned who I am now. Support local small businesses!!! read more

I'm fortunate to work a couple blocks away from this local shop so I stop in every couple months to see what's new. The sticker, patch, and pin collection alone is drool-worthy. They're unique, eclectic, and fun. The clothes are great quality and at a great price point. I've purchased quite a few items from them for both men and women. This is my absolute favorite store in all of cap hill and I am always joyed to come in and see their new collections. They've got an awesome curation of pins and patches and a variety of Americana style clothing. Every so often they have a wonderful sale. Jeff the owner is super cool!! I love this store, the smell of the candles were amazing. All his products of the highest quality! I literally could have spent a ton of money and time here. He even charged my iphone for me while I talked his ear off and tried on clothing. My ADHD can be a lot to handle at times, but he made me feel literally right at home. I will be going back for gifts for my sister and a Filson bag when I need it!!! And he said he would take returns on anything, like Nordstrom. My sister and I went into the store and were not greeted at all, which we really don't care about. We don't expect our asses to be kissed; the employee only acknowledged us when we were squatting and looking at pins and asked "do you need any help?" This is an issue because she didn't welcome us, she only acknowledged us when she thought we were stealing which would have been easy because she was on her phone the whole time. She may have been a stylish employee but we were not impressed with her customer service skills. Also when I went to sign the iPad after paying she barely moved the device towards me and I had to reach my arm over the length of the counter. Cute shop, bad service. read more
